Video: Conor McGregor Stars in New Burger King Commercial

Conor McGregor can sell a fight, but can he sell a chicken sandwich? Burger King seems to believe he can. The UFC superstar appears in the latest Burger King commercial, where the fast food chain’s own “King” delivers a spicy crispy chicken sandwich to the “Notorious” one on his private jet. “From one king to another, this packs a real kick,” McGregor tells the “King” after taking a bite of the sandwich. While McGregor continues to rake in endorsement money, the date for his UFC return remains unclear. The SBG Ireland standout has not officially been stripped of the lightweight title he won in November 2016, but that day could be drawing near. Interim champion Tony Ferguson will square off against Khabib Nurmagomedov in the UFC 223 headliner on April 7, and promotion president Dana White has vaguely stated that the bout is for the “real” belt. McGregor has not seen action since losing to Floyd Mayweather via 10th round technical knockout in a boxing match on Aug. 26. He did, however, claim that he offered to step in against Frankie Edgar at UFC 222, an offer which White later confirmed.

Kevin Lee explains why he's fighting Edson Barboza, not Nick Diaz or Eddie Alvarez

“The Nate Diaz fight was there,” Lee (16-3 MMA, 9-3 UFC) told reporters backstage at this past Saturday’s UFC 222, which took place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. “I thought it would have been a good fight. I would have wanted to take that one. Nate’s a tough fighter, and a lot of people are real high on him. But the man doesn’t want to fight.”

UFC 222 Medical Suspensions: Sean O’Malley Among Six Fighters Facing 6-Month Layoff

Rising bantamweight prospect Sean O’Malley had the most visible injury of anyone on the UFC 222 card, so it’s no surprise that he is facing a lengthy medical suspension. The MMA Lab product earned a unanimous decision over Andre Soukhamthath in a featured bout at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday, but he was clearly hobbled by a leg injury in the third stanza, so much so that he did his post-fight interview on his back in the Octagon. O’Malley must have his right foot and ankle cleared by an orthopedic doctor or he will be suspended until Aug. 31. At a minimum, “Sugar” Sean is out until April 3 with no contact until March 25. The Nevada Athletic Commission released a full list of medical suspensions from the event on Monday. Five other fighters from the card are also looking at potential six-month layoffs pending doctor clearance: Cat Zingano (left ankle), C.B. Dollaway (left ankle), Hector Lombard (right foot), Bryan Caraway (left foot, right wrist), Adam Milstead (left foot). Sherdog’s Official Mixed Martial Arts Rankings - No Doubt

A collective shudder made its way down the spine of the Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight division following Brian Ortega ’s latest performance. Already one of the sport’s most dangerous submission artists, Ortega showed off his developing standup skills in a first-round knockout of future hall of famer Frankie Edgar in the UFC 222 headliner on March 3 in Las Vegas. “T-City” froze Edgar with a stepping elbow, hunted the finish and then lifted the former lightweight champion off his feet with a devastating right uppercut. Two hammerfists later, Ortega became the first man to ever stop “The Answer” and cemented himself as the clear No. 1 contender at 145 pounds. The win moves the Rener Gracie protégé into the second spot in our latest divisional rankings and puts him in prime position to challenge Max Holloway for the undisputed UFC featherweight championship later this year. Ortega was not the only up-and-coming star to shine at UFC 222. Undefeated Nova Uniao export Ketlen Vieira moved to 10-0 with a split decision over Cat Zingano , utilizing takedowns and a suffocating top game to spoil the return of the former title contender.

As you'd expect, Frankie Edgar all class in defeat after UFC 222

You're beyond Blessed in your life if you've had the privilege to meet 1 great person in your life. I'm talking about someone who impacts just thousands around him and changes and impacts your life for the better. It been a absolute miracle in my almost 50 years to have had 2 of these amazing men in my life. My father in law Pino and my little brother @frankieedgar. Even though I'm a lot older than Frankie, he has taught me way more lessons in life than I could have ever taught him. Besides being an incredible son, brother, father, husband, friend, general, mentor, champion, teammate and example to millions, I can't thank him enough for being the most incredible example to my son for the past 13 years. So hard in these times to find a great role model for your kids these days and I've been Blessed beyond belief to have had this man be an example to what is dearest to me. Forget this fight stuff there's way bigger things in life and it's a GUARANTEE FE will be back stronger than ever!! Congratulations to Brian Ortega and his amazing team. Brian's awesome example to kids.

Conor McGregor Takes Aim at Max Holloway, Tony Ferguson on Social Media

Conor McGregor was fairly active on social media over the weekend. McGregor recently made waves when he alleged that he offered to fight Frankie Edgar on short notice at UFC 222 after Edgar’s initial opponent, featherweight champion Max Holloway , had to withdraw due to injury. After Edgar’s shocking loss to Brian Ortega , Holloway reached out to the fallen former champion with the following: Kid, you bounced. Leave it. — Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) March 5, 2018 McGregor, who has taken issue in the past with champions pulling out of title fights – such as Jose Aldo -- took a shot at the current featherweight champion. Then, Tony Ferguson , who is challenging Khabib Nurmagomedov for the UFC lightweight title, posted a short video of him landing some unorthodox uppercuts on a speed bag with the following: You are a sad bastard, mate. — Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) March 5, 2018

Matches to Make After UFC 222

If Frankie Edgar thought it was safer to try Brian Ortega on the feet, he was mistaken. The unbeaten Ortega became the first man to finish “The Answer,” as he wiped out the notoriously durable Edgar with punches in the opening round of their UFC 222 co-main event on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. It came to a surprising and dramatic conclusion 3:25 into Round 1, leaving Ortega as the unquestioned No. 1 contender to the Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight throne. All appeared to be going according to plan for Edgar, who used crafty footwork and a decided speed advantage to unleash multi-punch volleys to the body and head. Ortega never took his eye off the target. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt cracked Edgar with an exquisite stepping elbow in close quarters, the impact scrambling the New Jersey native’s synapses while permanently altering the course of their confrontation. Ortega cut off escape routes and then lifted his counterpart off his feet with a devastating right uppercut. Edgar hit the deck in a semi-conscious state and could not withstand the follow-up hammerfists that necessitated the stoppage.

'Mask' documentary on TapouT founder debuts April 3, filmmaker vents on Reebok

Razak: That’s a tough question. He wasn’t alive for the FOX deal. He would have loved the fact that UFC was on free TV and free cable, that you can watch a fight Sunday morning in your bed and Saturday night for free. I think he would have loved it. I think the Reebok deal wouldn’t have it. Him knowing about that Reebok deal, knowing that TapouT wasn’t a part of that … because if he was alive, there would be no Reebok deal. I’m telling you 100 percent there would be no Reebok deal. He was incredibly tight with (UFC President) Dana (White) and (former UFC CEO) Lorenzo (Fertitta). That’s why they put his name on the cage. I believe if there would have been a singular deal for a clothing company, it would have been Charles. No way in hell would there have been a Reebok deal. Charles loved fighters. He would pay fighters more than he paid himself. He would have not have done a raw deal for these fighters. He would have made sure they were paid correctly. If they voiced their concerns, he would have addressed it 100 percent. He would have been disgusted by this Reebok deal, and I think he won’t get any rest – if there is something like going into the light, he ain’t there, because he’d be turning in his grave.

5 Things You Might Not Know About Matt Mitrione

At 6-foot-3 and 255 pounds, Matt Mitrione is a force in any mixed martial arts competition, whether in the Ultimate Fighting Championship or Bellator MMA . “Meathead” may seem like a happy-go-lucky kind of guy -- he usually sings along to his entrance music -- but he gets down to business when the bell rings. Mitrione took a majority decision from Roy Nelson at Bellator 194 on Feb. 16, advancing to the 2018 Bellator heavyweight grand prix semifinals. While Mitrione awaits his next opponent in his bid to capture the vacant Bellator heavyweight crown, here are five things you might not know about him: 1. He is an athlete at heart. Born in Bloomington, Illinois, and raised in nearby Springfield, Mitrione was hyperactive when he was a child. Shotokan karate kept him busy, while good genes allowed him to become a multi-sport athlete during his stay at Sacred Heart-Griffin High School. Mitrione engaged in diving, track and field, swimming and football. He was recognized as an honorable mention All-American by USA Today and earned All-State honors during his senior year at Springfield Southeast High School after posting 117 tackles and recording 19 sacks.
