B.J. Penn to Face Dennis Siver at UFC 199

Following weeks of speculation, B.J. Penn will get to fight at UFC 199 . Promotion officials announced on Tuesday that Penn will lock horns with Dennis Siver in a featured bout on the June 4 bill, which takes place at the The Forum in Los Angeles and airs on pay-per-view. UFC 199 is headlined by a middleweight title rematch pitting Luke Rockhold against Chris Weidman . Penn’s return is reported to have been delayed due to an accusation of sexual assault . “We have taken a look at the available facts, which aren't too substantial, and there are two stories of what happened,” Lawrence Epstein, the UFC's chief operating officer told Yahoo Sports . “To date, there has no action at all taken by any law enforcement agency. We decided to allow B.J. to fight. However, we are going to continue to monitor to the situation. If new information, more information, becomes available to us, obviously, we reserve the right to reevaluate.” Penn recently announced that he was coming out of retirement and would train under the guidance of Greg Jackson in Albuquerque, N.

Junior Dos Santos dominates Ben Rothwell en route to lopsided victory

As for Rothwell, there's no shame in losing to someone like Dos Santos but it's still a nasty pill to swallow considering the momentum he built in his last four fights. This setback will certainly derail Rothwell's plans to fight for the title in 2016 but considering his desire to stay active, there's a good chance he'll be back this summer to try and reclaim his spot amongst the best heavyweight fighters in the world.

Derrick Lewis Calls Out Roy Nelson for Heavyweight Bout at UFC 200

Derrick Lewis knows what he wants, and that’s a matchup with a fellow knockout artist at the UFC’s premiere event of 2016. Shortly after “The Black Beast” recorded a first-round knockout of former title challenger Gabriel Gonzaga in the UFC Fight Night Zagreb co-main event on Sunday -- his sixth knockout finish in the Octagon -- he set his sights on Roy Nelson , who has finished seven of his eight promotional triumphs by knockout or technical knockout. “I feel hungry after that victory. I feel really good. I appreciate my opponent and what he did in the fight. I’m hoping that I get to fight Roy Nelson in July at UFC 200 ,” he said. Why Nelson? Well, Lewis understands that MMA is an entertainment business, and a showdown with Nelson is exactly the type of fight that can raise Lewis’ profile. “It ain’t nothing personal or anything like that. I just feel like he’s going to bring a better fighter out of me. It’s a fan favorite fight,” Lewis said in an interview on Fox Sports 1. “I’m here for the promotion to sell tickets.

11 The Early Look: Rashad Evans vs. Glover Teixeira at UFC Fight Night

This Saturday's  FS1 UFC Fight Night main event Rashad Evans between Glover Teixeira is a great fight of similar ages who are solid grapplers but who also have dynamite in their fists. Moreover, it is a match up that offers each man real incentive. Teixeira may be the hotter contender, right now, but a win over Evans, who hasn't won a fight in two and a half years, will still mean something since he is a former world champion.

Anthony Johnson not happy with claims he turned down Jon Jones fight at UFC 197

“Everybody’s hitting me up now, all of my friends, saying that Jon is throwing me under the bus or whatever,” Johnson said. “I never accepted the fight with Jon. The UFC hit me up and asked me about it, but they didn’t know anything about that I had dental work done. I had four screws put in my jaw, Ok? So why would I accept a fight and then say, ‘No, I don’t want to fight him?’ That’s stupid. I have more sense than that. So, either the UFC is telling this man the wrong thing, or somebody’s not telling the truth somewhere in between. Because I got told something different and now I’m hearing Jon is being told this. So, I don’t know. It is what it is.”

UFC Cancels April 25 Tryouts for ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ Season 24

Ultimate Fighting Championship has canceled this month’s casting call for the 24th season of its long-running reality show, “The Ultimate Fighter.” The organization on Tuesday issued a brief statement announcing the cancellation. Tryouts were set to take place in Las Vegas on April 25, two days after UFC 197 . “UFC apologizes for any inconveniences this cancelation has caused,” the company stated. “More information about the next season of the show will be made available in the weeks to come.” It was revealed last week that the winner of “TUF 24” will be awarded a shot at the UFC flyweight title currently held by divisional king Demetrious Johnson . Coaches for the season have not yet been announced. The 23rd iteration of “TUF” debuts later this month, with UFC strawweight champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk and rival Claudia Gadelha set to coach a cast of 115- and 205-pound fighters.

Matches to Make After UFC Fight Night ‘Rothwell vs. Dos Santos’

Perhaps Junior dos Santos has a little more left in the tank than some feared. The former Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight titleholder ran circles around Ben Rothwell in the UFC Fight Night 86 main event, as he picked up a five-round unanimous decision on Sunday at Zagreb Arena in Zagreb, Croatia. All three judges awarded dos Santos all five rounds, giving the Brazilian a clean 50-45 sweep on the scorecards. After a competitive first five minutes, Rothwell was a non-factor. According to FightMetric data, dos Santos outpaced him by a 2-to-1 clip in significant strikes in the second, third and fourth rounds before out-landing him by a 3-to-1 margin in the fifth. Quick hands, deft footwork and crisp punches to the head and body kept the Brazilian a step ahead of Rothwell, who entered the cage on the strength of a four-fight winning streak. The landslide victory helped dos Santos rebound from a knockout loss to onetime Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem in December and allowed him to put further distance between himself and the two hellacious beatings he absorbed at the hands of rival Cain Velasquez in December 2012 and October 2013.

Junior dos Santos Vows to Reclaim UFC Heavyweight Title: ‘I Know It’s Going to Happen’

The last two times Junior dos Santos fought for the UFC heavyweight championship, he came up short. He lost his crown to Cain Velasquez in their second bout and then was knocked out by the American in their rubber match. Since then, he had only gone 1-1 and the MMA world largely cast him aside. After his performance in the main event of Sunday’s UFC Fight Night event in Zagreb, Croatia, the former world champ has pumped some air into the lungs of his career and he finds himself right back in the thick of things regarding the promotion’s title picture. After dismantling Ben Rothwell over five rounds, dos Santos said that everything is coming back together and one day he’ll have that gold back around his waist. “We are putting everything in the right place and that’s why I’m going to be champion again,” the Brazilian told the assembled media at the post-fight press conference. “I just want to fight. I know it’s going to happen at some point.” If dos Santos is achieve what he feels is his destiny, he’ll have to turn in a few more magnificent performances like the one he had against the Wisconsinite.

Thoughts & Shots From UFC Fight Night ‘Rothwell vs. Dos Santos’

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. I have to be honest: I didn’t think we’d see this iteration of Junior dos Santos ever again. The former champion headed across the pond and battered a streaking Ben Rothwell in the UFC Fight Night 86 main event on Sunday in Zagreb, Croatia. He looked more like the man who pounded out Cain Velasquez for the heavyweight crown in 2011 than the guy who appeared to still be suffering from the two payback fights with the American Kickboxing Academy ace. The manner in which dos Santos dealt Rothwell his beating was impressive. He was faster, fitter and lighter on his feet. It allowed him to outpace his bewildered opponent and continually hammer him to the body. The perpetual attack robbed Rothwell of his stamina and left him throwing single big shots in hopes of landing a Hail Mary that would have kept his four-fight winning streak alive.

UFC Zagreb Highlight Video: Watch Alejandro Perez Pound Out Ian Entwistle

Alejandro Perez blasted through Andy Entwistle! That's 3-straight 1st RD finishes on the #UFCZagreb Prelims! — FOX Sports: UFC (@UFCONFOX) April 10, 2016 For a second it seemed as though England’s Ian Entwistle was going to have a short night. He immediately latched onto Alejandro Perez ’s leg and went for a heel hook as soon as the fight started, but the California-based Mexican defended it perfectly. Entwistle attacked the leg a few more times before complaining to referee Grant Waterman that he thought Perez had greased legs. Waterman examined the TUF Latin America veteran and he was clean, but it didn’t stop the Brit from attempting dozens of leg attacks. Perez avoided them all and eventually got into top position, where he hammered his foe with a never-ending cascade of punches until Waterman finally stopped it when Entwistle verbally submitted. The official time of the TKO was of the opening frame.

Rose Namajunas would probably rather watch Kimbo vs. Dada than Tecia Torres

"I'd rather fight the champ but I understand that I'd probably have to fight Tecia either way if I was the champ because she'd be climbing up the ranks eventually or just fight her right now. But initially it wasn't a matchup I was super excited about just because she's not the most exciting fighter, but I'm excited to face any challenge so in that sense it's exciting," Namajunas told FOX Sports.

UFC Fight Night Zagreb Bonuses: Lewis, Taisumov, Perez, Cannonier Pocket $50K

Derrick Lewis has the type of power that can help pad a bank account. “The Black Beast” did exactly that at UFC Fight Night Zagreb on Sunday, knocking out Gabriel Gonzaga 4:48 into the opening frame of their co-headlining clash to earn a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus. A hard right hand from Lewis sent Gonzaga tumbling face-first to the canvas, bringing an immediate halt to the heavyweight tilt just before the end of the round. No “Fight of the Night” bonus was awarded on Sunday. Instead, Mairbek Taisumov , Alejandro Perez and Jared Cannonier joined Lewis in receiving $50,000 performance bonuses. Taisumov earned a $50,000 performance award for his first-round knockout of Damir Hadzovic in a preliminary lightweight encounter. Taisumov had his opponent reeling near the fence after landing a pair of right hands, and he put Hadzovic away with a right uppercut at the 3:44 mark of the period for his fourth straight stoppage victory inside the Octagon. Meanwhile, Perez made Ian Entwistle pay for his single-minded focus on leg locks, forcing his adversary to verbally submit to punches 4:04 into the first round of their bantamweight tussle.

By the Numbers: UFC Fight Night Zagreb

The demise of Junior dos Santos has been greatly exaggerated. The former heavyweight champion put to rest speculation that he is on the decline in the UFC Fight Night headliner, as he picked apart Ben Rothwell for five rounds en route to a clear-cut unanimous decision triumph at Zagreb Arena in Zagreb, Croatia, on Sunday afternoon. With the victory, “Cigano” ended Rothwell’s surprising four-fight winning streak and in the process re-established himself as one of the sport’s top big men. Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC Fight Night “Rothwell vs. Dos Santos,” with statistics courtesy of Related » UFC Fight Night Zagreb Bonuses 157: Significant strikes landed by dos Santos, a new UFC heavyweight record. “Cigano” outlanded his foe 26 to 19 in round one, 29 to 14 in round two, 29 to 15 in round three, 40 to 18 in round four and 33 to 11 in round five. 92: Significant strikes to the body landed by dos Santos, a UFC record in any weight class. The previous best of 62 was recorded by Steve Steinbeiss in a loss to Rob Kimmons at UFC Live 2 in August 2010.

Opinion: Pedestals and PEDs

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. I’m past the point of being surprised by PED busts in MMA. At this point, it seems that most of the sport’s heroes have at the very least dabbled with performance enhancers, and with the newly implemented random United States Anti-Doping Agency drug tests, I’d bet that only the staunchest clean-sport advocates have abstained; or to quote Nate Diaz : “They’re all on steroids.” The problem is that random tests and stiffer penalties are not always effective deterrents. To those fighters who were on the fence about PEDs, perhaps they were dissuaded. However, the fighters who had built -- or at least felt they had built -- successful careers on a foundation of extralegal assistance, such impositions are only motivations to become smarter about cheating, including taking smarter legal precautions when necessary. If behavior management were as simple as “punish more and punish harder,” school classrooms and city streets would be a whole lot different.

After Teixeira Injury, Patricio Freire Says He’s Fighting Henry Corrales at Bellator 153

It apparently didn’t take long for Bellator MMA to find a replacement opponent for Patricio Freire . The former featherweight champion revealed on Twitter Saturday that Henry Corrales will step in for the injured John Teixeira da Conceicao and face Freire at Bellator 153 . Promotion officials were not immediately available to confirm the change. “Thank you [ Henry Corrales ] for stepping up,” Freire wrote. “Much respect. Everyone was saying no but you. I know you’ll come to war, and I welcome the challenge.” After beginning his professional career with 12 consecutive wins, Corrales has faced a tough draw in Bellator MMA, dropping back-to-back fights to Daniel Straus and Emmanuel Sanchez in his first two promotional appearances. It won’t get any easier against Freire, who prior to relinquishing the 145-pound belt to Straus at Bellator 145 had won seven straight fights. “Pitbull” is 24-3 overall, with his only defeats coming to Straus, Pat Curran and Joe Warren . “That said, I”m a man on a mission,” Freire wrote.

Frank Mir will likely retire if suspended 2 years for positive drug test

The next step for Mir will be USADA testing the 'B' sample taken on March 19 and if that test comes back positive then it appears he's willing to forgo an appeal and instead face whatever punishment is handed down. A two-year suspension is the stipulated minimum for a fighter testing positive for a performance enhancing drug, but if that's the case then Mir doesn't see a reason to fight again when he'd be eligible to return at 39 years of age.

UFC Fight Night Prelims: Replacement Zak Cummings Pins First Defeat on Nicolas Dalby

The combo from @ZakCummings drops @DalbyMMA in the first!! #UFCZagreb — #UFCZagreb (@ufc) April 10, 2016 Zak Cummings presented Nicolas Dalby with a set of problems he could not solve. Clubbing left hands, overwhelming pressure and veteran savvy carried Cummings to a unanimous decision over the former Cage Warriors Fighting Championship titleholder in the featured welterweight prelim at UFC Fight Night “Rothwell vs. Dos Santos” on Sunday at Zagreb Arena in Zagreb, Croatia. All three cageside judges saw it 30-27 for Cummings (19-4, 4-1 UFC), who replaced an injured Bartosz Fabinski on short notice. Sherdog scored it 30-27, 30-27 and 30-27 for Cummings. Cummings set the tone with a strong first round -- he dropped the Dane with a right uppercut-left hook combination -- and never looked back. He routinely backed up Dalby (14-1-1, 1-1-1 UFC) with punches, proved opportunistic in the grappling exchanges and cut off a late rally from the Rumble Sports standout with a late third-round takedown. A graduate of Season 17 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” Cummings has won six of his past seven bouts.

Jon Jones felt racially profiled and powerless during traffic stop for drag racing

Officer Brown all over the news in Albuquerque after reporters dig up how many times he has been in trouble for racial profiling in the past. Being a father of biracial children, I'm definitely not one to pull the race card. At the same time, I'm not necessarily surprised about this discovery after the run in I had with him. Having him stand there, look me in the eyes and start accusing me of several things him and I both know I didn't do made me feel let down by the community, made me feel powerless, he made me feel like what was actually true had no power over him. Now it's easier for me to understand why so many people hold resentment towards law enforcement. Officer brown almost single-handedly ruined my trust in law-enforcement. The sad thing about it is, I actually went to school for criminal justice, I wanted to be an officer myself. Fortunately I know better than to let one person ruin my views of a whole group. Just glad people are finally bringing light to who I was dealing with that night.

Walk-off KO! Mairbek Taisumov lands a CRUSHING uppercut that knocks his opponent out cold! #UFCZagreb — FOX Sports: UFC (@UFCONFOX) April 10, 2016 In a lightweight brawl, it was a vicious right uppercut by Mairbek Taisumov that ended things abruptly in the opening round. After trading strikes, Damir Hadzovic backed himself into the cage and when he tried to fire a series of punches, he was drilled by a single shot that turned out his lights. Taisumov turned and walked away as soon as he detonated his uppercut, ending the fight at 3:44.
