Thank you for reaching out to the Board. As to your question regarding Mr. Maranhao, he was thoroughly examined by a licensed physician after he fell off his stool between the 4th and 5th round of the RFA event in Cheyenne on April 11. He was also examined by his corner men and the referee. All parties, including Mr.Maranhao, believed and stated unequivocally that Mr. Maranhao was medically safe to and capable of finishing the fight. In fact, he fought well in the last round and lost in a close split decision. He was examined by a licensed physician after the bout as well and again found to have no neurological or other medical issues of concern.

Matches to Make After UFC Fight Night 40

Roy Nelson closed Minotuaro’s eyes with a right hand. | Photo: Warren Little/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images Roy Nelson has sent his fist crashing into many a chin, both granite and glass, and the consequences are almost always the same. Nelson posted the 13th first-round finish of his career, as he knocked out former Pride Fighting Championships titleholder Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in the UFC Fight Night 40 main event on Friday at du Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Nogueira lay unconscious 3:37 into round one, becoming the latest victim of a “Big Country” right hand. Few were surprised by the outcome. Once known and revered for his ability to absorb punishment, Nogueira has become less and less durable as Father Time has exacted its natural toll. Nelson set him on shaky legs inside the first minute, connecting with an uppercut and overhand right. The situation did not improve for Nogueira. Nelson cracked the wobbly 37-year-old again later in the round, pursued him with a patient purpose and unleashed the violent right hand that drew the curtain.

Firas Zahabi: Georges St-Pierre’s surgery could spark motivation for return

“I think this injury, because he’s going to be away from training for so long, could cause him to want to fight again,” Zahabi said. “When your girlfriend dumps you, you want her more than ever before. MMA just kind of put him on the sidelines, and now he probably wants MMA more now than ever before. It’s the way it is – it’s human nature.”

Video: Liz Carmouche looking for return to title contention vs. Miesha Tate

“A win over Miesha does a lot for me. Both of us are in a position where we’ve lost more fights than we should have in the UFC, and we’re coming up on that point where we really have to prove ourselves in the rankings. This will help solidify myself in the rankings and solidify me as a contender. My ultimate goal is to be champion and be the best in the world.”

Hindsight: Fight Night Nogueira vs. Nelson in retrospect

Following the wholesale bloodletting that was Fight Night: Shogun vs. Henderson 2, I needed a card like this to get back on track. Something that didn't rip out my sense of self confidence and grind it into the mud. So, this card raised my vicarious spirits and made for a genuinely pleasurable experience. Although I was disheartened to see Noguiera go out the way he did, I had pretty well prepared myself for it emotionally before hand. So, the personal blow wasn't so heavily delivered.

RFA’s Junior Maranhao: I was dizzy, not out

"I was in that triangle for a long time," he said. "The referee told us to stop but then he let the fight continue, and that was when (Manzanares) locked the triangle. I was dizzy (when the round ended). When I went back to my corner to sit down, I kind of missed the stool and fell with my face on the ground. My corners stood me back up and I was okay. I was dizzy, that’s it. It may look that I was out, but that’s not what happened.

Scott Kent hopes MMA fighters will take Lion Fight crossover challenge

“Melvin, you mention Paul Daley – there’s a lot of guys out there that have good muay Thai backgrounds or are very aggressive strikers, and that’s what we want to really showcase in muay Thai: fighters that will really bring it,” Kent said. “We want to make sure that all of these fighters have an opportunity. If they want to be a two-sport champion, let’s give them the platform to do that. And now we’re at a level where we’re getting a lot of media attention, where we have the wherewithal to bring in a lot of these fighters. … It’s an interesting challenge for the fighters themselves, and I think it makes marketing sense for us.”

Headbutts and leprechaun call-outs: Five ways of looking at UFC Fight Night 39

Clay Guida  and  Tatsuya Kawajiri put on a fun three-round show in their featherweight bout, and as soon as it was over Guida took to the mic to offer some thoughts on his immediate future. Oddly, he started off by assuring us that he’s not one to call people out. Then he called out both Conor McGregor and Josh Thomson, ostensibly offering up his services in two different weight classes. As a career move, it’s pretty smart. Guida probably won’t get a fight with McGregor, who seems to have become the featherweight Michael Bisping with just about every fighter within 10 pounds of him calling for a crack at him. So what does he do? He picks a safety school, just in case. He might as well, since Guida’s chances of fighting for a UFC belt seem caught somewhere between slim and none. He might as well try to entertain, which in this business often means offering to make various “leprechauns” cry .

Video: UFC on FOX 11's Travis Browne breaks down Fabricio Werdum

“The thing about this sport is, if you’re looking backward, you’re not moving forward,” Browne told MMAjunkie. “That’s in the past. It’s 2014. I’m on to the next, and I have a big fight in front of me. I’m not going to be happy until I leave a legacy. You see so many people fight for the championship, and then they just fall off. I’m not going to be that guy.”

No regrets for Robbie Lawler as he turns page on loss to Johny Hendricks

"I think obviously Robbie Lawler is a completely different person now than he was then. He's a completely different person now than he was three years ago. The whole time he was gone from the UFC i always had a good relationship with Robbie. He would call every now and then and say I'm thinking about Robbie back in the day loved money and he was like I want to make as much money as I can, and there were all these organizations out there that were, to get a kid like Robbie Lawler were paying a lot more."

UFC Fight Night 39 post-fight facts: Nogueira sets dubious heavyweight record

For the third consecutive time, a UFC Fight Pass main event ended in a spectacular knockout as Roy Nelson (20-9 MMA, 7-5 UFC) stopped Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (34-9-1 MMA, 5-5 UFC) with a brutal overhand right in the opening round at UFC Fight Night 39.

Travis Browne 'embraces the idea' of Alistair Overeem joining Team Greg Jackson

"If you personally don't get along with somebody, that doesn't mean they can't help you professionally. I've personally never had any issues with Overeem, and professionally, I've never had any issues with him. For me, what would concern me is if we had a professional beef. But there hasn't been any of the sort, so we'll just be here to push each other to be the best in the world.

Chael Sonnen: Crime was committed during TUF: Brazil brawl

He said the incident, which wasn't the first or the last between the two on the show, started when the two were waiting for weigh-ins. Silva was constantly challenging Sonnen to fight, as well as demanding that he apologize for what he had said in the past. He said Silva spit at him first. Silva took a swing and Sonnen ducked and took him down and was throwing punches when the other fighters swarmed in.
