Mwekassa Dominates Hameur-Lain in Glory 29 Super Fight Series Main Event

Light heavyweight contender Zack Mwekassa has been claiming that he should be next in line for another crack at the Glory championship and after watching him dominate veteran Zinedine Hameur-Lain for three rounds, he makes a good argument. Mwekassa pounded on Hameur-Lain in the main event of the Glory 29 Super Fight Series in Copenhagen, Denmark on Saturday, capping off an undercard overflowing with action. Mwekassa was relentless in his pursuit of his French adversary, pressuring Hameur-Lain with a vicious body assault and sharp punches to the head. Hameur-Lain (54-13, 33 KOs) was never truly hurt in the battle, but the Congo native’s attacks kept him out of sync form the start. Hameur-Lain rallied late as Mwekassa appeared to be gassing out, but it was too little too late. Mwekassa (14-3, 12 KOs) was awarded a unanimous decision via tallies of 29-28 on all three scorecards. Welterweights Harut Grigorian and Maximo Suarez ripped into each like hyenas fighting over a kill, each landing serious leather as soon as the fracas began. Both combatants were rocked in the brawl, but, sadly, it didn’t last long.

Opinion: Please, No Mayweather-Pacquiao 2

That didn’t take long, did it? All Manny Pacquiao had to do was turn in an impressive performance against Timothy Bradley and the media ran wild with questions about whether we’ll see a rematch between “Pac-Man” and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Please, no. I don’t care how good Pacquiao looked against Bradley. This version of Pacquiao will never, ever beat Mayweather. To be completely honest, I’d prefer it if Pacqiuao retired, but I just don’t believe he will. Everything surrounding Pacquiao’s so-called retirement has lacked conviction. Never once has Pacquiao made it clear that he is done with boxing. Sure, his wife and mother want him to call it quits and there’s the ever looming question about how much time he will have to spare if he becomes a senator in his home country of the Philippines, but you can see that Pacquiao still loves boxing. If nothing else, he loves the fans and putting on a show. There isn’t a show when you’re passing bills in the senate. Honestly, that’s boring. All Pacquiao knows is boxing. After two decades in the sport that turned a pauper into a prince and made him richer than he could have imagined, he’s just going to walk away? More importantly, as much as Pacquiao loves to help the people, another hefty $20 million payday couldn’t hurt; and what’s Jinkee Pacquiao going to do when her husband is moping around the house because he has nothing to do? She’s going to have to let him do what he loves.

Rashad Evans 'embarrassed and disappointed' after quick loss to Teixeira at UFC on FOX 19

“It’s hard to make a decision on what needs to change, fresh after an embarrassing and disappointing loss,” Evans said. “I sit here and I’m embarrassed; I’m disappointed. It’s sad. But you have to go on, because this is what it’s about. It’s easy to fight and to go through it when you’re always on top and doing everything well, but the hardest thing is working through the disappointment, working through doubt in yourself, and it’s not easy.

Matches to Make After UFC on Fox 19

Some view Khabib Nurmagomedov as the Ultimate Fighting Championship ’s uncrowned king at 155 pounds. In his return from a two-year injury layoff, he did nothing to dispel the notion. Nurmagomedov took care of promotional newcomer Darrell Horcher with second-round punches and re-established himself as a serious lightweight title contender at UFC on Fox 19 “Teixeira vs. Evans” on Saturday at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. A replacement for the injured Tony Ferguson , Horcher met his end 3:38 into round two. Various injuries had kept Nurmagomedov on the sidelines since April 19, 2014. The 27-year-old American Kickboxing rep showed no signs of rust in improving his gaudy record to 23-0. Nurmagomedov executed a high-amplitude takedown in the first round and nearly finished it there, achieving full mount and slicing open Horcher’s scalp with elbows. He picked up where he left off in the second, securing another takedown before advancing to the back and forcing the stoppage with unanswered punches. According to FightMetric data, Nurmagomedov out-landed Horcher 75-6 in the significant strikes department and 107-18 in total strikes.

Fedor Emelianenko ’s comeback tour will continue against Fabio Maldonado at a Rizin Fighting Federation on June 17, according to a report from Brazilian media outlet Combate . Sherdog.com on Sunday confirmed the matchup with a source close to the bout, following an initial report from Brazilian outlet Combate . The Japanese promotion has yet to officially announced the matchup, which will reportedly take place in St. Petersburg, Russia, and will be contested at heavyweight. After a retirement that lasted more than three years, Emelianenko returned to action at Rizin’s New Year’s Eve Event, where he forced Jaideep Singh to submit to punches 3:02 into the opening frame of their bout. “The Last Emperor” has won his last four fights and owns a 35-4 career record. Maldonado, meanwhile, was released from the UFC following back-to-back losses to Corey Anderson and Quinton Jackson in 2015. Felix Sturm Allegedly Fails Post-Fight Urinalysis After Winning World Title

Former WBA and WBO middleweight world champion Felix Sturm was impressive back on Feb. 20 in Germany when he conquered Fedor Chudinov for the WBA super middleweight crown. The battle was a rematch of a split decision loss to Chudinov earlier in the year and though the fight was about as close as the first, Sturm had his hand raised in victory. The only catch: Sturm wound up allegedly failing his post-fight urinalysis. According to multiple online reports Saturday evening, Sturm’s A sample was flagged for having traces of the anabolic steroid Hydro-XY-Stanozolol, which is a banned substance. The news has come as a shock to the 37-year old Sturm (40-5-3, 18 KOs), who denied any knowledge of taking the steroid and believes there is an error in the test. “I’ve been tested in my career 100 times, and always the results were negative,” Sturm told the Cologne Express, one of Germany’s biggest newspapers. “The fact that after two months such news comes and the BDB (Germany’s boxing commission) wasn’t informed, how can this be? I will bring in the lawyers and open the B sample.

Devin Clark, Leandro Higo Crowned Champions at Resurrection Fighting Alliance 37

Devin Clark now has some hardware to go along with his perfect professional record. Clark captured the vacant Resurrection Fighting Alliance light heavyweight championship with a second-round technical knockout against Rafael Viana in the RFA 37 headliner on Friday at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A hand injury left Viana (6-1) unable to continue between the second and third rounds. The two men staggered each other with simultaneous hooks during their first standup exchange, but from that point forward, Clark (6-0) was in control. The 25-year-old South Dakotan struck for takedowns in both rounds and grinded Viana with punches and elbows from top position. At some point in round two, the Brazilian suffered an injury to his right middle finger. Once Viana returned to his corner between rounds, it became clear his night was done. In the co-main event, Pitbull Brothers export Leandro Higo claimed the vacant RFA bantamweight championship, as he rendered Joey Miolla unconscious with a first-round rear-naked choke. Miolla (8-2) went limp 2:07 into round one, his eight-fight winning streak at an end.

Video: Errol Spence Makes Quick Work of Chris Algieri

It's over! @errolspencejr KOs @chrisalgieri in round 5! #mandown #spencealgieri https://t.co/CJOMi06Dn6 — PBC (@premierboxing) April 17, 2016 Errol Spence Jr. deemed it his biggest fight ever. Just one look at the former 2012 U.S. Olympian, and you get the sense even bigger fights will soon be heading his way. Before a national TV audience, before a packed crowd at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Spence made a loud announcement that he’s arrived by splashing former junior welterweight titlist Chris Algieri (21-3, 8 KOs) three times, including twice in fifth, when referee Benjy Esteves Jr. waved it over at :48. Spence did something that not even the great Manny Pacquiao could do, and that’s stop Algieri for the first time in his career. Algieri was knocked down in the fourth, and that was the beginning of the end for him. The second knockdown, but first in the fifth, came when Spence caught Algieri off balance with a left to the jaw. The end came when he popped Algieri with an overhand left, again hitting the magic spot on the jaw, forcing Algieri into the ropes and plopping down on his butt.
