Matches to Make After UFC on Fox 29

It felt like Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje left pieces of themselves strewn across the Octagon. No one expected anything less. Poirier made a significant move in the Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight division, as he put away the former World Series of Fighting titleholder with punches in the fourth round of their UFC on Fox 29 main event on Saturday at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona. Gaethje succumbed to blows 33 seconds into Round 4. It was a beautifully brutal encounter. Gaethje targeted the inside of the American Top Team rep’s lead leg with repeated kicks and zeroed in on his head with clubbing power punches. Poirier returned fire, withstood his counterpart’s breakneck pace and capitalized when the opportunity to finish presented itself. The FightMetric figures were startling: Poirier and Gaethje combined to land 295 total strikes, 289 of them significant. In the aftermath of UFC on Fox 29, here are five matches that ought to be made: Related » UFC Glendale: By the Numbers Dustin Poirier vs.

Kevin Lee promises to expose Khabib Nurmagomedov after he whoops Edson Barboza

“Once I get my hands on him that’s really going to show. There was a little bit of frustration watching that fight because I wanted to be the one to expose those holes and I want to be the one to give him that one on his record. But as soon as that fight’s over I got back on what I got to do and that’s go out there and whooping on Edson.”

Dustin Poirier Displays Battered Leg from Justin Gaethje Bout at UFC on Fox 29

Dustin Poirier’s lead leg took a beating at UFC on Fox 29 , but he was still able to emerge with a fourth-round technical knockout win over Justin Gaethje in an entertaining main event. “The Diamond” was shown leaving the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Ariz., on crutches as Fox Sports 1 interviewed Dana White on Saturday. All told, Poirier absorbed 50 significant leg strikes from his opponent in the lightweight bout. “I’ve got nothing but respect for him,” Gaethje said. “He’s going to be hurting for a very long time.” The photo evidence provided by Poirier does nothing to disprove Gaethje’s prediction. Late Sunday evening, the American Top Team product put his battered leg on full display in a series of social media photos. “Here you savages go,” he wrote. “Y’all wanted to see the damage.” Here you savages go! Carlos Condit after UFC Glendale loss: 'Maybe my time has passed'

Post choke out, where the fuck am I , WTF happened, feeling kinda warm and fuzzy , hope I didn't just piss my shorts on live TV , thousand yard stare. I've posted plenty of pictures looking like a Badass. Triumphant and powerful… But here's the flip side, crumpled and weak in defeat. Rough day at the office 😐 Fuck it though, I had fun. I trained my ass off and I came to fight. This is what leaving it all out there looked like on Saturday. Much respect to my opponent and his team. Thank you for taking the fight on short notice. Congratulations and best of luck in the future. I don't know what's next guys… I still love this game, and most days I still feel that fire, I absolutely love what it do, but maybe my time has passed. I don't know the answer. this is what I know, this is my passion. I will never stop training, and If that leads me back to the the octagon, you know I'll try to make it bloody for ya. Right now I'm looking forward to summer shenanigans with my sons and to expanding @hundredhandscoffee .

UFC on Fox 29 Post-Mortem: Anarchy in Arizona

As Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje locked eyes in the Octagon for the main event of UFC on Fox 29 in Glendale, Arizona, no one knew exactly what we were going to get. The only thing fans knew was that it was going to be a war for the ages, and that it was. At the opening bell, Poirier and Gaethje went to war for four rounds in a back and forth slobber knocker that resulted in a TKO win for Poirier and a possible claim to a title shot against newly-crowned undisputed lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov . The fight began typical of any Gaethje brawl, with the former World Series of Fighting champion coming forward winging wild punches and thudding leg kicks in an attempt to break his opponent down. Poirier remained steadfast in his gameplan and never wavered, landing a picture-perfect left hand. Smelling blood in the water, Poirier pressed forward on his teetering foe, firing off a barrage of punches to finish the job. The win for Poirier marked his second straight and brought him to 7-1-1 overall since his move up to the lightweight division in late 2015.

Dustin Poirier sends his thanks to "warrior" Justin Gaethje |

On Saturday night, in the main event of the UFC’s anticipated stop in Glendale, Arizona, long-time UFC lightweight contender Dustin Poirier and former World Series of Fighting lightweight champ Justin Gaethje stepped into the cage for one of the most anticipated matchups in recent memory. In the end, this matchup delivered in the way we all hoped, as Poirier and Gaethje bludgeoned each other into unrecognizable piles of black-and-blue flesh, until Poirier put an end to things with a volley of fourth-round punches.

Matches to Make After Bellator 197

Michael Chandler fought with a purpose and did a little record breaking along the way. The two-time Bellator MMA lightweight champion choked Brandon Girtz unconscious with an arm-triangle in the first round of their Bellator 197 main event on Friday at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri. A fill-in for the injured Brent Primus , Girtz went limp 4:00 into Round 1 to the delight of the pro-Chandler crowd. The two men traded barbs -- and fouls -- on the feet before Chandler changed levels, executed a takedown and advanced to the mounted crucifix position. After a brief burst of ground-and-pound, the 31-year-old Hard Knocks 365 representative locked in the choke, cleared his legs of the Girtz guard and waited for his squeeze to do the rest. Chandler has gone 6-1 since enduring a three-fight losing streak between Nov. 2, 2013 and Nov. 15, 2014. He now owns more Bellator wins (15) than any other fighter. In the aftermath of Bellator 197 “Chandler vs. Girtz,” here are four matches that ought to be made: Michael Chandler vs.

Sherdog’s Official Mixed Martial Arts Rankings - Shine On, You Crazy Diamond

Dustin Poirier has consistently proven himself to be one of the Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight division’s most violent talents. “The Diamond” lived up to that reputation in the UFC on Fox 29 headliner in Glendale, Arizona, as he stopped former World Series of Fighting champion Justin Gaethje 33 seconds into the fourth round of a wildly entertaining slugfest. Not only did the victory propel Poirier past the offensive-minded Gaethje in our 155-pound rankings, but it sets him up nicely for a significant bout down the road. While it might not be champion Khabib Nurmagomedov as he requested in his Octagon interview, with just one defeat in his last nine outings, Poirier is at least on the outskirts of the title discussion. Elsewhere, John Moraga continued his resurgence in the flyweight division, as he dispatched fellow former title challenger Wilson Reis in a preliminary affair at UFC on Fox 29. “Chicano” John has now won three straight bouts at 125 pounds and he moves from No. 10 to No. 8 in our flyweight poll.

Gleison Tibau vs. Desmond Green, Nik Lentz vs. Leonardo Santos Set for UFC Fight Night Utica

A pair of lightweight bouts have been added to the UFC Fight Night 131 bill, as Gleison Tibau will face Desmond Green , while Nik Lentz will square off against Leonardo Santos . The Las Vegas-based promotion announced the contests on Monday. UFC Fight Night 131 takes place on June 1 at Adirondack Bank Center in Utica, N.Y., and is headlined by a bantamweight tilt between Jimmie Rivera and Marlon Moraes . The card airs on Fox Sports 1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass. Tibau is currently on a three-bout skid, including a 57-second knockout loss to Islam Makhachev in his most recent outing at UFC 220 on Jan. 20. After beginning his Octagon tenure with a split-decision win over Josh Emmett , Green has dropped back-to-back contests to Rustam Khabilov and Michel Prazeres . Lentz last appeared at UFC Fight Night 121 this past November, where he submitted ex-Bellator champ Will Brooks with a rear-naked choke in the second round to give him three wins in his last four outings. Santos, meanwhile, is unbeaten in six UFC bouts – including a first-round stoppage of Kevin Lee – but hasn’t competed since October 2016.

John Moraga Targets Rematch with Sergio Pettis After Besting Wilson Reis

INSANE flying knee from @ChicanoJohn! #UFCGlendale — UFC (@ufc) April 14, 2018 John Moraga has extended his winning streak to three with his latest decision victory over Wilson Reis in the flyweight division on Saturday at UFC on Fox 29 . While Moraga came out the winner, it did come at a cost as he suffered multiple injuries during the bout. The worst of them happened as Moraga’s face slid down the cage fence, which acted as a cheese grater tearing a chunk of flesh from his forehead. Moraga spoke about his injuries after the fight during the post-fight interview (quotes courtesy of ) “The cage got me pretty good,” he said after the bout. “It took a chunk out of my forehead.” How many stitches did it require to sew up? “You can’t stitch it,” he said. “It’s a big chunk, a big hole.” The win for Moraga ensured his next foe would be a high-ranked opponent as he edges closer to another title shot. Moraga is not known as a trash talker in the knuckle game and doesn’t call out fighters at the end of a bout.

UFC on Fox 29 Averages 1.78 Million Viewers, According to Overnight Ratings Figures

Elsewhere, Alex Oliveira submitted Carlos Condit in the second stanza of the welterweight co-headliner, while Michelle Waterson garnered a hard-fought split verdict over Cortney Casey in another featured contest.
