10 reasons to watch UFC on FOX 11, with the pleasing of the muay Thai gods

It’s arguable who’s faced a tougher road to the No. 1 contenders fight, but this is certain: Werdum’s decision this past year to wait for Velasquez could cost him. The Brazilian hasn’t fought in 10 months while Browne has kept a steady clip in the past year. And while Werdum is a far more practiced striker than he once was, Browne is more explosive and unpredictable. Werdum said he got the better of Browne in the practice room, but that was several years ago, and it’s a much more competitive fight.

UFC on FOX 11: Miesha Tate vs. Liz Carmouche preview and the prognostication

Her grappling is good too, thanks in part to her FILA background (where she silver medaled in 2008). I'd emphasize taking Ronda's back, but Ronda seems like she uses it for bait. Carmouch actually did something with back control, nearly pulling her head off like a pissed off 8th grader punishing his cobra commander action figure. Carmouche's strength was on full display there. Speaking of Liz, she's at her best when she can achieve top control. She's got a good right hand, and just looking at her, you know she can hurt you in a punch in the face contest, but she should get this fight to the ground.

Step 4: You will most likely feel your system's increased metabolic rate. Energy goes up, you feel warmer, you are more alert etc. With more food your thyroid will increase its hormone production. You see, dieting can momentarily cause a lowered thyroid hormone output. One great aspect of refeeds on Fighter Diet is to make the thyroid happy. It works very well! You will feel these effects the day of a refeed as well as the day after: increased heart rate, higher body temperature (sometime a fever), increased energy and happier mood.) On refeeds you increase your calories and carbs in particular. Carbs release more insulin which is very anabolic. High blood sugar, which is not maintained chronically, will get your diet miserably body into happy happy mood. "Why don't I just keep on refeeding then if carbs are so good for my metabolism?" you might ask. Well, your body will adapt and when you've filled your muscles and liver to max with carbs, there is just one more place they can go: to fat cells. Yikes! Again, cycling calories by doing regular 'lower or maintenance calories' with ref

5 Reasons Why You Must Know Your Breakfalls

One thing that is very commonly visible in jiu-jitsu practice is how many academies actually ignore judo. That mean they do not learn the breakfalls, which is the first thing anyone learns when they begin practicing judo. This is a huge mistake and as many of us have seen, judo really improves a jiu-jitsu athlete’s game. So even if an academy doesn’t focus very much on judo, learning the breakfalls is something that is important, especially for children classes. Don’t forget, BJJ matches start on the feet, and although jumping guard may be convenient for some, until you’re confident with doing that, you will have to take your opponent down, or have them take you down, in which case you have to know your breakfalls – here is why:

Fighting Life

NEWBURY PARK, Calif. -- The most potent, stinging combination in fighting is a one-two: the words “it’s over.” Real fighters never want to hear it. They refuse to believe it. It asks them to leave behind their first and perhaps greatest love. If sleep is the cousin of death, it follows that the family would also include retirement -- another form of unconsciousness from which a fighter may never wake. Mark Miller has been parrying that one-two combination for the last seven years. “I know I sound like every other fighter ever, but I was doing things I hadn’t done in a while,” said Miller, sitting inside a bright, modern sushi restaurant. “Being someone who is in tune with my body and in tune with myself, I was really excited.” Back in 2005, the K-1 kickboxer amassed a 1-2 mixed martial arts record in Podunk fights on the Ohio circuit; the lone victory was omitted by Sherdog’s Fight Finder, according to Miller. He had been training MMA at Miletich Fighting Systems in Iowa prior to finding out about his congenital heart defect in 2006.

Pondering Vitor Belfort's disappearance from Shaq's hardwood

ORLANDO – It’s hard to resist the sloganeers when you end up at a UFC press conference at the Shaquille O’Neal’s estate, right in the middle of his own pretty sick basketball court…Orlando does feel like a place where magic happens. And if you can’t let your imagination run wild in a setting like this, then you’ve never seen international correspondent Gareth A. Davies dribble a basketball. Sometimes the magic cannot be easily scrubbed away. Sometimes you cannot unsee . And this was a peculiar place to be reminded that we, the media being hosted -- or "media," as casual haters like to dress it -- sent poor Vitor Belfort away on an ice floe. Dana White made it clear (once again) that all the people crowding him with digital recorders at the post-press conference scrum are to blame for…for…well, for Vitor suddenly being "gone." It was the media harping about 2013’s Fighter of the Year, throwing snickers and asterisks at his accomplishments the whole way, that exiled Belfort in 2014. Poof , now he’s just gone.

Fighter Diet Pak (Fitness)

Hi Pauline, My name is Annie and I bought the newbie pack about 5 weeks ago and have been very disciplined about the whole thing!   As I said I’m lucky cause I LOVE veggies!  And love how I feel when I eat lots of them!  I have type 1 diabetes so at first I was a little nervous about how my body would react and to what extent I would have to change my insulin doses!  It has gone very well!!!   I have a good appetite and though I was never overweight, I wanted to get lean!  Well, fighter diet is working!!!!   In the 5 weeks I’ve lost about 9 lbs of fat and gained 3 lbs of muscle!  And this is despite the fact that I don’t do nearly as much cardio as you recommend, simply cause I lack the time.  I work part time and have a handicapped child which requires a lot of my time and

Dana White less certain of Georges St-Pierre’s return after ACL

ORLANDO – Last month, at UFC 171 in Dallas, Dana White was fairly convinced that former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre -- who voluntarily surrendered his belt to take a break from fighting -- would at some point fight again. This was in the midst of St-Pierre’s campaign to clean up the sport of MMA with drug testing, and of course before St-Pierre very casually tweeted that he had blew out the ACL on his left knee and would undergo surgery to correct it. Now in late April, White says, "I have no idea." The 32-year old St-Pierre, who held the 170-pound belt for nearly six years, previously tore the ACL in his right knee, which took him out of action for more than a year-and-a-half. Though he was able to successfully come back from that through rigorous rehab, this time the motivation might be different. Asked if this latest ACL changes the certainty of which he spoke in March of GSP’s inevitable return, White said, "yeah, it definitely changes it." Even if, as some people have intuited, this latest setback might serve as additional motivation to drive St-Pierre towards a return? "It’s tough to come back," White said.

The main card also features some other pivotal bouts. In the women’s bantamweight division, Miesha Tate and Liz Carmouche will fight it out to see who will remain relevant at the top of the division. Two exciting lightweight fighters, fan favorite Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and Edson Barboza will also throw down. Rounding out the FOX televised portion of the card is an important middleweight fight between Brad Tavares and Yoel Romero.

FD Cardio 4 Leanness (Athlete)

Hi, my name is SGT Ryan Casperson, I am Active duty Army stationed at Fort Drum, NY. I've been following Pauline and her Fighter Diet concept for the better part of 2 years now. At first I was skeptical like I am about all fitness related mentors, but after following Pauline on Facebook and watching her interact with people and seeing her no bullshit attitude, as well as her attention to detail in everything she does, I knew from that she was the REAL DEAL. I've been using Fighter Diets " Cardio 4 Leanness" ebook recently, and let me tell you, in the Army we run about 5-6 miles every other day and I can run 2 miles in14:30 minutes but none of that has broke me off as hard as this concept has. I look forward to continuing to use her as a tool in my fitness and can't wait for more results!

Bellator 117’s Julio Cesar Neves being patient on way to next level of MMA

The Brazilian returns tonight for his first fight outside his home country. Neves (28-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) makes his Bellator debut against Josh Arocho (13-12 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) at Bellator 117, which takes place at Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The main card airs on Spike TV following prelims on, where the Neves-Arocho will stream.

Morning Report: Joe Rogan names Georges St-Pierre as the UFC's $5 million man

Douglas Lima (25-5-0) vs Rick Hawn (18-2-0) - Douglas Lima has been on a tear scoring 4 straight KO victories since his loss to former WW champ Ben Askren . He will finally get another shot at the gold when he faces fellow Bellator WW tournament winner Rick "Genghis" Hawn who is on a 4 fight win streak himself (2 Ko's , 2 decisions) with the same goal in mind. Rick's best chance here is to use his Olympic judoka background and press Lima against the cage, take him down and work from there, but against the likes of Lima that is a tough task. Lima is a huge WW who cut's down from 205. Even when Aksren got him down he was always attacking from bottom. I believe Lima will be able to stuff most of Hawns takedowns and light him up on the feet. Prediction: Lima 1st round KO

UFC on Fox 11 staff picks and predictions

Zane Simon: I don't like being on the opposite side of Pat in fight picks this often, since we so often think alike. And I agree that Nurmagomedov is a tough matchup for anyone. But, I feel like dos Anjos has really hit his peak right now and his footwork and combination striking are as strong as they've ever been. He has good wrestling and great Jiu Jitsu to round it out and I don't think that Nurmagomedov has ever faced an opponent with this amount of technical polish. I could see this being a copy of the Guida fight, where Nurmy just horses him around and breaks him, but I'm going with the fighter I think is really in his prime right now. Rafael dos Anjos by Decision.

UFC on Fox 11 Prelims: 5 Reasons to Watch

Khabib Nurmagomedov sports 14 finishes among his 21 victories. | Photo: Jeff Sherwood/ Just three days removed from its last event, the Ultimate Fighting Championship , apparently hell bent on making us all tap to strikes with its sheer volume of programming, returns with UFC on Fox 11 on Saturday at the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla. The main draw airs live on Fox’s premier network, highlighted by a heavyweight No. 1 contender’s bout pitting surging Jackson-Wink MMA rep Travis Browne against Pride Fighting Championships and Strikeforce alum Fabricio Werdum . Just prior, Fox Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass will handle the undercard, which will showcase several notable matchups, including a lightweight clash pitting Rafael dos Anjos against Khabib Nurmagomedov . This pairing of top 155-pound talents is particularly crucial, even within a division in which parity is the rule rather than the exception. Dos Anjos will walk into the matchup riding a five-fight winning streak, during which he topped the likes of Evan Dunham , Mark Bocek and Donald Cerrone .

FD Fat Loss By Mind Power (Fitness)

“Before reading Pauline Nordin’s Fighter Diet blog and subsequently purchasing e-books (I currently have FDX2, Fat loss By Mind Power, A Week To Try It Out, Fighter Diet Pyramid & Fighter Diet Recipe Volume 1) I thought I knew enough about exercise and nutrition to sculpt the body I wanted. I didn’t realize I was so bogged down with “broscience” from fitness and health websites, personal trainers, magazines etc, that I was relying solely on my genes to stay a small size (not yet realizing I was the dreaded skinny-fat body type!) and not pushing myself hard enough to MAKE my body change. I had lots of rationalizations as to why my body wasn’t changing but didn’t realize they were just excuses; not enough time to work out or prepare healthy food, too tired, too stresse

Donald Cerrone: Edson Knocks People Out, but He Hasn't Fought Anybody Like Me (Video) |

Although Cerrone has many more submissions than knockouts to his credit, he was 28-0-1 as a kickboxer before making the transition to MMA in 2006. The combination of his kickboxing background with his potent submission skills could, as he says, make him the type of fighter that Barboza hasn’t ever fought.

Dana White says Phil Davis lacks title spirit; Davis: 'Ha ha. Isn't that funny?'

“Let me tell you one thing about Dana. He’s an extremely busy man. He runs one of the biggest and best fight promotions in the entire world. The fact that he doesn’t know what’s going on in my little interviews doesn’t surprise me. So, I’ll tell you what’s going to happen. I’m going to talk to Dana and let him know, ‘Hey Dana, I’m going to break apart anybody you put in front of me until I am the UFC champion.’ Simple as that. We just had a misunderstanding. That’s all. People talk. You ever play telephone when you were a kid? Of course. You start out saying one thing, and next thing you know, the message is all screwed up and everybody’s laughing. Ha-ha. Isn’t that funny? Phil Davis don’t want to be a champion. Ha-ha. That’s funny. OK.”

Diet and the Whole Grains Propaganda

Are they worth it? Well, they do give you more nutritional value than refined grain products, but I have an issue with how the diet industry is pushing whole grains like it's your best buddy. It's not. You receive just as many calories from whole grain rice diet as from a diet with white rice. You get just as many calories from instant oatmeal as from old fashion oats.

Ric's Picks: UFC on FOX 11

Romero tends to have stretches of listlessness (which was evident as he dropped two rounds to Derek Brunson before turning it around in the third), but he compensates for that with superhero power to match his superhero physique. Brad Tavares is definitely the more well rounded, reliable fighter, but he typically earns wins with a grinding style of efficient striking and takedowns. I don't see him having much success grappling-wise against Romero and on the feet, they're just about even (discounting the nuclear bomb thump Yoel brings). I could see Tavares scraping by with a decision the way he has recently, but I'm on Romero at plus odds. If Romero debuts his offensive wrestling game (we've yet to see him use it), the odds shift even more in his favor.
