Julianna Pena: Serious Business

If life was fair, Julianna Pena might be in line for a shot at UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey right now, or at least two or three fights into her UFC career. Instead, she travels to Fairfax, Virginia to face Milana Dudieva this weekend as a prospect making her first appearance since winning season 18 of The Ultimate Fighter in November of 2013. What happened since her first-round TKO victory over Jessica Rakoczy has been well documented, as she suffered a January 2014 knee injury that could be described as both devastating and almost catastrophic. The injury, sustained while preparing for a UFC 171 bout against Jessica Andrade, required surgery by the renowned Ronald Kvitne and an arduous rehab, but after a few rough days, Pena never lost hope that she would one day fight again. “The doctor was extremely positive and hopeful that I would be able to return to fighting within a year,” Pena said of the reconstructive surgery. “And I was just so positive that this was not going to hold me back. At first I was in a dark place, but once I started putting in the work and doing everything that the doctors requested of me, I was like ‘what knee injury?’” Now in Fairfax, Pena survived training camp with her Sikjitsu team, with the only thing left being the waiting until fight night.

Report: No WWE Deal in Place for UFC Bantamweight Champ Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey apparently has her hands full with fighting and acting. | Photo: Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com Ronda Rousey ’s cameo at WrestleMania last weekend had both the sports entertainment and MMA world buzzing, but don’t expect to see her back in the squared circle anytime soon. Rousey had a front row seat for Sunday’s event at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., but the UFC women’s bantamweight queen would transition to a more hands-on role during the show when “Furious 7” co-star and popular pro wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson made a surprise appearance. Rousey eventually joined The Rock in the ring as they dispatched WWE personalities Stephanie McMahon and Triple H . While Rousey’s performance drew mostly positive reviews and prompted speculation that a more extensive foray into pro wrestling could be in the works, it appears that, for now, the Olympic judoka’s plate is full. Brad Slater, Rousey’s agent, informed “UFC Tonight” that the fighter does not have a deal with WWE and that her appearance at WrestleMania was a “one-off.

Alexander Shlemenko denies the use of any banned substances, and looks forward to clearing his name at the next meeting of the California State Athletic Commission with his lawyer Howard Jacobs. His representatives have requested and are still awaiting the complete laboratory documentation package from the CSAC, given the extremely unusual and questionable findings that have been initially reported. The document request that has been made is consistent with the types of documents that the testing laboratory used in this case routinely provides – without the necessity for such a request ˆ in cases involving the United States Anti-Doping Agency.

Fight Night Fairfax Fantasy Preview

The UFC will land in Virginia this weekend for a rare daytime show, with two of the best featherweights on the planet squaring off in the main event as Chad Mendes faces Ricardo Lamas in a five-round showdown that will see the winner taking a big step forward in the 145-pound title race.   Mendes is fresh off a Fight of the Year candidate against champion Jose Aldo, while Lamas bounced back from his own loss to the champion by trouncing Dennis Bermudez in quick fashion in his last fight.   Also on the card, two lightweights with similar three-fight win streaks square off as Jorge Masvidal takes on Al Iaquinta in a pivotal matchup between 155-pounders desperate to crack the top 10 rankings.   As we gear up for what should be an action-packed day of fights in Fairfax, today's fantasy preview will break down some of those key matchups, a couple sure things and maybe even an upset to keep an eye on during this weekend's card.   KNOCKOUT PICKS   There aren't too many fights on this card that are going to be easier to pick, but a couple of the matchups do seem to favor one side a little heavier than the other.

Patrício Freire: 'Nobody should be surprised if Bethe Correia wins the belt'

"The first thing we established was that she can't make the same mistakes the previous challengers made, which is going straight at Ronda or letting her close the distance. We are working very hard on that. Her camp hasn't begun yet, but she's already training with that mindset. Bethe trains boxing, jiu-jitsu, kickboxing and takedown defense almost everyday. She trains armbar defense everyday. You will see Bethe put on a really tough fight and nobody should be surprised if she wins the belt. She has the drive and a lot of heart, no one should doubt her".

Glory Kountermove tournament: Glory 20 fantasy kickboxing preview and tips

2. You need the tournament winner. A key point is that all tournament fights will count towards that fighter's score. So you pick the tournament winner and you get two points for the price of one. That's big. Unfortunately for you, this is an incredibly hard tournament to pick, with no clear winner. If you're playing the KO game (and again, that's a good game to play), know that Simon Marcus looked very chinny in a KO loss to an unranked opponent last time out, making opponent Wayne Barrett a decent choice, while Jason Wilnis is the least likely of the 4 to score a KO here.

Since his release for the UFC back in 2011, Branch has looked like a man possessed and on a mission to get back to the top of the mountain. UFC fight bookings roundup - 3/27 – 4/2/15

Since the UFC has decided to produce 50+ events in 2015, there is a remarkable amount of fighter signings and new match-ups being set up throughout any given week. Many of these new signings are for match-ups that take place on the undercard, or on the Fight Pass portion of a PPV, so we are going to continue with a new weekly (or bi-weekly if needed) series of articles where we take a brief look at each and every bout booked by the promotion in one place.

Glory 20 van Roosmalen vs. Ristie staff picks and predictions

Michael Stets : I'm hearing stories from Barrett's camp that he looks like a man possessed. I said it in the preview and I'll say it again: I fully expect Barrett to be back on his "A" game for the GLORY 20 tournament. Wilnis fed him a nice slice of humble pie, and he will be more focused than ever I feel. Marcus looks lost without the clinch and it seems he hasn't recovered from the loss to Schilling at Last Man Standing. Levin and Schilling have made the adjustment to life without the plumb, Marcus has not and boy has it showed. Especially in his last fight in China against Fang Bian, making that two knockout losses in a row after winning 39 straight. It will soon be three in a row. Barrett, TKO, round 2

http://www.axs.tv/sports/22553/

In this space over the last month that theme has been frequent for we are seeing a string of perfection unlike any other sports period. For all those who who cheer the dominant UFC champion Ronda Rousey, it can be assumed there is almost equal number who want to see if this is the time someone can finally beat her. It puts Rousey in a unique spot for she is not a villain, but she is bold and confident and unapproachable in the cage. Maybe “she has too much going for her” would be the only logical argument for those who won’t praise her. After demolishing Cat Zingano in record 14 seconds time, there were speculations galore from the absurd—Will she fight a man? to the far reaching—What if former boxing champ Laila Ali came out of retirement (though never showing any interest in MMA) to fight her?
