Holly Holm suffers broken arm in victory over Julianna Werner

In the immediate aftermath of the fight, there were questions as to why Holm, a former pro boxing champion, couldn't finish off the overmatched Warner before the fifth round. But with news coming out that Holm apparently broke her arm in the first round, the final-round head kick finish becomes all the more impressive.

Vitaly Minakov Outduels Cheick Kongo to Retain Heavyweight Championship at Bellator 115

Vitaly Minakov retained his title against Cheick Kongo at Bellator 115. | Photo: Dave Mandel/ Vitaly Minakov proved he could go five down-and-dirty rounds. Takedowns, a smothering top game and ground-and-pound helped the undefeated Russian overcome a first-round point deduction for low blows and retain his Bellator MMA heavyweight championship with a unanimous decision over Cheick Kongo in the Bellator 115 main event on Friday at the Reno Events Center in Reno, Nev. All three cageside judges arrived at the same verdict: 48-46 for Minakov (14-0, 5-0 Bellator). Outside of a lopsided fourth frame in which he kept the fatigued champion on his back, Kongo was largely ineffective. Minakov knocked down the Frenchman with a right hand in the first round, wobbled him with another right behind the ear in the second and racked up points from top position in the third. He sealed the deal in round five, where grounded Kongo (20-9-2, 2-1 Bellator) inside the first 10 seconds and neutralized him on the canvas for the remainder of the fight, moving to full mount and unleashing his hands.

FDX2 Build Muscle Burn Fat (Athlete)

I found Fighter Diet through a magazine ad, I went straight to the website and knew that this concept was for me.  I am a 42 year old mother of 3 wanting to be in the best shape that I can be...I was a cardio queen, skinny fat gym rat. I thought that eating 800-1200 calories and spending hours on cardio machines would give me what I was looking for, boy was I wrong. I emailed Pauline in March of this year and sent her pictures, she recommended FDX2 and to stop all the cardio madness until I had some muscle to lean out.  Here are some before and afters (I hate saying after because I am still going strong with Pauline's principles, as you can also see I own almost every book she has written). I added 10 pounds of muscle, went from a size 4 to a size 0 and have just started adding card

Off the shelf, on the skin: Stick-on electronic patches for health monitoring

Wearing a fitness tracker on your wrist or clipped to your belt is so 2013. Engineers have demonstrated thin, soft stick-on patches that stretch and move with the skin and incorporate off-the-shelf electronics for sophisticated wireless health monitoring. The patches stick to the skin like a temporary tattoo and incorporate a unique microfluidic construction with wires folded like origami to allow the patch to bend and flex.

8 Ways To Burn Serious Calories That Don't Feel Like Working Out

A small study from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign found that kids with ADHD were able to concentrate better after a 20-minute walk in a park rather than a walk through city or neighborhood streets. "What this particular study tells us is that the physical environment matters," Frances E. Kuo, director of the university's Landscape and Human Health Laboratory and one of the study's co-authors told The New York Times. "We don't know what it is about the park, exactly -- the greenness or lack of buildings -- that seems to improve attention." Flickr photo by quacktaculous

The Darker Side of MMA Journalism: The Legacy FC 30 Debacle

That’s where I was sitting when Holly Holm finished Juliana Werner at Legacy Fighting Championship 30 on Friday evening. Next to me, in the cup holder on the seat, was a stack of empty plastic beer cups. They weren’t mine. They belonged to the fans who sat next to me, fans who had ordered as many beers as they were legally allowed to carry—they were double-fisting it that night. Between my feet sat my laptop case. Inside it, my laptop.

UFC cuts Phil Harris, set to return to Cage Warriors - Heavyweight Walt Harris signs Titan FC contract

Harris is set to meet up and coming Russian flyweight Kurban Gadzhiev at Fight Night 11 in Aman Jordan on April 18th, just two weeks from his announced signing. It's a good move for Harris, to get back in to the regional scene as quickly as possible, as the 30 year old flyweight could potentially make a quick turnaround to a future European UFC card if he can pick up two or three wins in a thin division.

Head Kick KO Keeps Former Boxing Star Holly Holm Unbeaten in Legacy FC 30 Headliner

Holly Holm did it again with her kicking ability at Legacy FC 30. | Photo: Will Fox/ ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – She gained fame for her boxing, but Holly Holm remained unbeaten and earned her first MMA title on Friday night at Legacy FC 30 , breaking down tough Brazilian Juliana Werner over five rounds before taking the promotion’s 135-pound women’s title with a head kick at the Route 66 Casino in Albuquerque. The former pound-for-pound boxing star put on an inexorable performance, pushing the pace and landing a lopsided amount of strikes and kicks. Werner held her own, coming forward and countering regularly, but could not match the sheer number and power of combinations Holm tirelessly drilled in. The fight only went to the ground a few times and when it did, it was on Holm’s terms, as she caught Werner’s leg kicks and threw her to the ground. Early in the fifth, a still-fresh Holm landed another roundhouse kick upstairs, this one badly hurting Werner. “The Preacher’s Daughter” pounced with strikes to finish and referee Raul Porrata waved the contest off at 1:50 of the final round.

UFC fight bookings roundup, 3/30-4/5

With something like 50 events in 2014, the UFC has to book a whole lot of fights. Sometimes these fights are huge, and sometimes they're undercard bouts featuring names you might know very well. So we're going to continue with a new weekly (or bi-weekly if needed) series of articles where we take a brief look at each and every bout booked by the promotion in one place. Without further ado, here we go.

Holly Holm suffers broken arm in Legacy FC 30 main event

It is uncertain when Holm suffered the break, but talk after the fight was that she appeared to be letting Werner stay in the fight instead of trying harder to put her away. Holm eventually got a TKO stoppage in the fifth round to win Legacy’s bantamweight title when she landed a head kick and followed it up with punches on the ground.

Women's MMA Report: UFC books Nunes vs. Kaufman, Holm captures Legacy FC title

Nunes (9-3 MMA, 2-0 UFC) had planned to welcome undefeated prospect Alexis Dufresne to the UFC in one of two women’s bouts at “UFC on FOX 11: Werdum vs. Browne” on April 19 in Orlando, Fla. Like Kaufman, Nunes was also left without an opponent when Dufresne sustained a broken rib that took her out of the fight. A number of female fighters – both inside and outside of the UFC – campaigned for a fight against Kaufman, but it was ultimately Nunes who got the call to fight three days earlier than planned in order to challenge the Canadian.

WSOF: Burkman and Abdel-Aziz come to uneasy agreement, Burkman gets Fitch/Palhares winner

Cage Warriors Fight Night 11 set for April 18 in Amman, Jordan

Allen will look to stay unbeaten in his pro career, which includes three straight wins for Cage Warriors. At Cage Warriors 56, he submitted Andy Green in the first round. He followed that up in October with a second-round triangle choke win over Declan Williams at Cage Warriors 60. And at Cage Warriors 61 in December, he stopped Doni Miller with a TKO in the second. Huber makes his Cage Warriors debut after a decision loss in February snapped a five-fight winning streak of choke submissions. The Brazilian started his career 0-2 before going on the five-fight run, all in 2013.

T. J. Dillashaw calls UFC 173 title shot 'a Cinderella story' for himself, Duane Ludwig

All of this is a huge task for any fighter, much less one some still regard as being in the developmental stage of their career. Dillashaw isn't particularly young at 28, but spent 2013 refining his game and approach to fighting. He's smack in the middle of putting the pieces of his game together. That doesn't mean for Dillashaw, however, that he's worried or nervous about failing, letting the team down or showcasing himself poorly. If anything, he is certain this is his chance to shine and turn the corner on his ability and perceptions from fans.

Shields explained, “MMA was originally promoted as a competition to find the most effective martial art techniques for real, unarmed combat situations.  Because of this, competitors were pitted against one another with minimal rules, as would be the case in actual combat situations.”  MMA debunked a lot of fighting myths and showed the reality of what would and wouldn’t work in an actual fight.  The sport has seen increased popularity with a pay-per-view business that makes it one of the fastest-growing sports in America.  “Whether at the national or regional level,” Shields added, “safety is built into the all our rules and procedures.”

NSAC chairman: We have to be smart about drug testing

"We have to be smart about how we do this. We can't just develop a drug testing program just to have a drug testing program," Aguilar said. "There has to be some logic and methodology behind the program, and we will get there, but we've had this little bit of a hiccup of not having an executive director. Once we get an executive director in place this is going to be a high priority for the commission. It takes consultation of the doctors, the commissioners, the executive director and some of the past fighters to say, ‘hey, this is a strong program, this is how it needs to work.'"

Dana White: UFC 'shaking things up' after Chris Weidman surgery

“We’re still working on a lot of stuff,” White said. “Ever since Weidman went down and needed knee surgery, we’ve been moving things around and shaking things up over here. I’m still working on all that.”

Scott Jorgensen's appeal to overturn loss to Jussier Formiga denied by Brazilian Athletic Commission

Jorgensen also took to Twitter to ask for a rematch against the Brazilian , but ultimately it comes down to what the UFC wants to do. He's officially on the first three-fight losing streak of his career, and has been finished three times during his 1-5 skid. You have to consider though that his defeats have come against brutal opposition - Faber, Makovsky, Barao, Wineland, Formiga - so perhaps the UFC will spare him from the cut line and either give him his requested rematch or a more "winnable" fight against someone not in the top 10.

How Team Takedown is changing the approach to training – and managing – MMA champions

“In MMA, how many times have you heard trainers complain about not getting paid?” Laimon said. “You work with a guy and he starts having success, then it’s like, ‘I’m going to go work with someone else,’ just so he doesn’t have to pay you. That’s one of the most heartbreaking and crushing things on this side of the business. You help guys and then when they get a big contract they’re basically like, ‘F–k you, I’m not going to pay you.’ But with the way Team Takedown is set up, I never missed a check. Not once. They treated me so well, and I saw the way they treated the fighters so well, it took a little bit of faith, but I always thought it was going to work.”

Rousey's ex-manager responds to CSAC ruling

I am not a litigious person, but I never thought for a moment that once she made it to the top, Ronda would turn her back on us and refuse to honor her legal and moral obligations. After months of radio silence and without even giving me the courtesy of an explanation I was forced to go to court to compel Ronda to private arbitration per the terms of our agreement. Before that could be sorted out, Ronda's legal team ran to the State Athletic Commission, demanded an expedited hearing and tried to get our entire agreement thrown out on a technicality. During our four-hour hearing last week, I finally heard Ronda's side of the story. Frankly, it's pathetic and I'm not surprised the Commission chose not to include any of that in their written decision. The Commission did properly reject Ronda's attempt to invalidate the entirety of our agreement, and I am very pleased with that aspect of their decision. Our case against Ronda will now proceed. I am confident that when all the facts are presented to an impartial private arbitrator, Fight Tribe Management's contributions to Ronda's career will be fully recognized and fairly rewarded.

UFC on FOX 11's Jorge Masvidal in finals of WPT poker tournament, playing for six-figure prize

“I probably shouldn’t tell you this, because I might have future competitors reading this,” he said. “I’m not great at math, and math is a huge part of poker. I can do pot odds, I can round up numbers, and I can do a couple of things. But I’m not great at math. What I am good at is reading when people are weak, so I just look for certain things. I look somebody in the eye and stare at them, like if we were going to get in a fight, and I stare at them until they get uncomfortable.”
