Coach: Conor McGregor Has Already Started Training for Floyd Mayweather

While there remains no official date for Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather, that doesn’t mean the UFC champion can’t begin preparations for what would likely be the greatest challenge of his combat sports career. According to SBG Ireland head trainer John Kavanagh , McGregor is already training like the fight is a done deal. “In my mind, it’s on. That’s the mentality we’re in,” Kavanagh told Fox Sports Australia . “There’s a lot of fingers in the pie with this one — there’s different promotions, different organizations, there’s different commissions that are involved. “But as far as I’m concerned, I’m really convinced it’s going to happen this year and that’s the mindset that I have. Let the people in the suits worry about the paperwork, we’re training for it.” Last month, Mayweather officially ended his retirement to pursue a bout with McGregor. The “Notorious” one, meanwhile, began calling out the undefeated boxer in earnest following his victory over Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 this past November. McGregor is still under UFC contract, which is one of the major hurdles to which Kavanagh refers.

What to Watch For: Bellator 176

They were the participants in one of the most forgettable fights of 2016. Consider this their do-over. Rafael Carvalho will defend the Bellator MMA middleweight championship against Dutch knockout artist Melvin Manhoef in the Bellator 176 headliner on Saturday at Pala Alpitour in Torino, Italy. Their rematch -- Carvalho won the first meeting between the two by split decision on May 20 -- will highlight a four-fight main card that airs on Spike TV at 3 p.m. ET/2 p.m. CT ( latest odds ). Carvalho will enter the cage with the wind of a 13-fight winning streak in his sails. The 30-year-old Brazilian boasts a perfect 4-0 record in Bellator, wins against Brian Rogers , Joe Schilling and Brandon Halsey preceding his five-round Bellator 155 triumph over Manhoef. Carvalho has secured 10 of his 13 professional victories by knockout or technical knockout, five of them inside the first round. Manhoef, 40, has a vast reservoir of big-fight experience upon which to draw, his MMA career stretching back more than two decades. The former Cage Rage champion owns wins over Denis Kang , Kazuo Misaki , Mark Hunt , Kazushi Sakuraba and Evangelista Santos (twice).

Daniel Cormier: 5 Defining Moments

Looking back on the life of reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight titleholder Daniel Cormier , it almost seems as if he was destined for mixed martial arts superstardom. Born in Lafayette, Louisiana, on March 20, 1979, Cormier enjoyed a stellar career as a prep wrestler at Northside High School, where he was a three-time state champion. “DC” then moved on to Colby Community College in Kansas -- he went 61-0 and won back-to-back national championships -- before landing at Oklahoma State University. Cormier earned All-America status with the Cowboys, reached a national final and later qualified for two Olympic teams: He placed fourth in 2004 and captained the United States squad at the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing. The Louisianan put down roots with the American Kickboxing Academy outfit and made the transition to MMA under the Strikeforce banner in 2009. Cormier won his first 15 fights, capturing titles in the King of the Cage and Xtreme MMA promotions before linking arms with the Ultimate Fighting Championship and laying claim to the light heavyweight throne in 2015.

Daniel Cormier vs Anthony Johnson this Saturday LIVE on PPV!!! #UFC210

“Rumble” Johnson Details MASSIVE 60-Pound Weight Cut

Anthony “Rumble” Johnson is getting his second chance to capture Ultimate Fighting Championship gold this Saturday at “UFC 210”. He will be challenging Daniel Cormier for his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship in the main event in Buffalo, New York hoping for a different result from when the first time the two heavy-hitters collided.

The Bottom Line: The UFC’s Next Frontiers

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. * * * The Ultimate Fighting Championship continues its tour of the Empire State on Saturday, as it stages UFC 210 in Buffalo, New York. Following the promotion’s first New York City card at Madison Square Garden, the UFC ran its first Albany event and then its first card from Brooklyn. It will make its promotional debut in Uniondale in July. New York was long the UFC’s white whale, and the company is wasting no time touching down in all corners of the state. This New York expansion follows a broader trend over the past decade and a half as the UFC has made a concerted effort to run all over the country and the world. The philosophy is clearly that running events in different areas will build the sport’s popularity in those regions. The result of those efforts is that there are fewer and fewer new horizons by the year. For years, UFC President Dana White was bombarded with questions from fans and media: “When are you coming to our city?” There aren’t nearly so many people left to ask that question now.

MMA’s Greats of the States | Tennessee: Quinton Jackson

Mixed martial artists come from every corner of the globe, bearing a variety of styles. Sometimes, fighters are products of their environment, favoring disciplines prevalent in the country or state from which they hail. Various regions of the United States are considered factories for great fighters, though that certainly is not the case with each state. In this weekly series, the spotlight will shine on the best mixed martial artist of all-time from each of the 50 states. Fighters do not necessarily need to be born in a given state to represent it; they simply need to be associated with it.

Bellator MMA Vet LaRue Burley to Face Unbeaten James Nakashima in LFA 11 Co-Headliner

LaRue Burley will square off against James Nakashima in the Legacy Fighting Alliance 11 co-main event. The promotion recently announced the welterweight pairing. Additionally, three other bouts were confirmed for the May 5 card: Kyle Stewart vs. Maycon Mendonca; Bruno Silva vs. Casey Kenney and David Nuzzo vs. Sean O’Malley. LFA 11 takes place at Comerica Theatre in Phoenix and is headlined by a middleweight duel between Matthew Frincu and Daniel Madrid . The card will be televised on AXS-TV. Burley is perhaps best known for upsetting Bubba Jenkins at Bellator 100 in September 2013. The 32-year-old Power MMA Team representative began his pro career with six straight victories but has dropped back-to-back fights to Ramil Mustapaev and Brian Foster under the World Series of Fighting banner in his last two outings. Burley hasn’t competed since 2015. A former collegiate wrestler at the University of Nebraska, Nakashima is unbeaten in six outings, with five of this triumphs coming under the Resurrection Fighting Allliance banner.

Weidman’s heart is in the home and in the cage

Chris Weidman filled those bags with enough clothing and fight gear for a few weeks of training and another in Buffalo for his fight against Gegard Mousasi at UFC 210. He was headed to his parents’ house in Baldwin to live in their basement — just like when he first started his career as a wide-eyed wrestler with dreams of fighting his way up the stairs, out the door and into a home and life of his own with his wife.

Chuck Liddell may be one of the most feared individuals to ever step foot inside the octagon. His run as the face of the Ultimate Fighting Championship may go down in history as one of the most exciting times to be a mixed martial arts fan, as the sport continued to grow and evolve as each fight passed. Still, no matter who UFC officials put in front of “The Iceman”, it seemed they could find no match for him. It wasn’t until the likes of Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Rashad Evans were thrown into the mix when Liddell had met his match. Still, Liddell remains one of the scariest fighters to meet in person despite how kind he is. Take a look at what “The Iceman” looked like years ago in high school:

Mousasi Is PISSED! Speaks Out After Learning All His Opponents Make More Than Him

Gegard Mousasi has proven to be one of the most dangerous mixed martial artists to step into the octagon. ‘King Mo’ vs. 'Rampage’ Headliner at Bellator 175 Peaks at 1.6 Million Viewers on Spike

The Bellator 175 main event between Muhammed Lawal and Quinton Jackson peaked at 1.6 million viewers on Spike, according to a release from the network. The heavyweight headliner drew an average of 1.4 million viewers for the three-round fight, which “King Mo” won via unanimous decision. Lawal and Jackson first fought at Bellator 120 in May 2014, with “Rampage” winning a contentious decision. Their initial meeting was the featured bout for the promotion’s inaugural pay-per-view offering. Bellator 175 took place at Allstate Arena in Chicago this past Friday and also saw Emmanuel Sanchez take a three-round verdict over Marcos Galvao in the evening’s co-main event. The card as a whole averaged 1 million viewers and garnered a 0.9 rating in the 18-to-49 year-old male demographic, which ranked third in its time slot. Thus far in 2017, Bellator MMA is averaging 993,000 viewers, a 26 percent increase over the previous year. Up next for the California-based promotion is Bellator 177, which takes place in Turin, Italy on Saturday and is topped by a middleweight championship rematch between Rafael Carvalho and Melvin Manhoef .

Prospects Ed Ruth, Tyrell Fortune Set to Compete on Bellator 178 Prelims

Two of Bellator MMA’s most promising prospects will return to action on April 21. The California-based promotion announced on Wednesday that standout wrestlers Ed Ruth and Tyrell Fortune will fight on the preliminary card of Bellator 178 . Ruth will face Aaron Goodwine , while Fortune will lock horns with Branko Busick. Ruth, a former three-time NCAA national champion wrestler at Penn State University, went 2-0 to begin his Bellator MMA tenure in 2016. After stopping Dustin-Collins Miles via first-round TKO in his debut at Bellator 163, the 26-year-old did the same to Emanuele Palombi a little more than one month later at Bellator 168. Goodwine, meanwhile, is 1-0 as a professional. Fortune was a Division II national champion wrestler at Grand Canyon University. The 26-year-old heavyweight is also 2-0 with the promotion, with TKO triumphs over Cody Miskell at Bellator 163 and Will Johnson at Bellator 171 to his credit. Busick will be making his professional debut. Bellator 178 takes place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.

Gegard Mousasi: Michael Bisping is the 'weakest' amongst the top five middleweights | FOX Sports

“At the end of the day he’s trying to push the pace. He’s going to work on conditioning and he’s going to come forward. That’s his way of fighting. I think he really underestimates my stand up. He’s not going to walk forward as much as he thinks he can. He’s a guy who brings the fight, but I think my stand up is way, way much better than him. I think I have the best stand up in the middleweights. I think that’s why the fight will be heavily favored to me,” Mousasi explained.

The ones that don’t they boo me in the moment and then they go about their business and they can boo me next time they see me or they can mess around on my social media but that stuff doesn’t matter. 10 greatest fights in UFC light heavyweight history

Even at the time, the 10-month span between UFC 76 and UFC 86 felt like the most unlikely of daydreams; an alternate timeline that existed only remind everyone how little in this sport was certain and how quickly the established order could be so thoroughly upended. Because Forrest Griffin wasn’t supposed to be there. He was the fun brawler, the everyman, the reality TV creation who put on entertaining fights but wasn’t someone to be taken seriously at the highest level. He was pegged as mere cannon fodder for "Shogun" Rua, the assumed best in the world… until the night the everyman choked out the best in the world, and then suddenly who knew what was true?

Fighter Offers To Fight His Mom In The UFC

Climbing your way through the ranks in the Ultimate Fighting Championship is hard enough, but carving your own path to even get looked at by the premier fight organization is a task unto itself. For the four hundred fighters currently under contract with the organization, it’s getting increasingly difficult for them to get the fights they want under new management.

Chris Weidman: UFC Belt System Has Changed, But Wins Still Get Title Shots

On Saturday, former middleweight champion Chris Weidman will attempt to halt a two-fight skid when he faces Gegard Mousasi in the UFC 210 co-headliner in Buffalo, N.Y. It’s unfamiliar territory for the Serra-Longo Fight Team member, who began his professional tenure with 13 straight victories, ending the lengthy 185-pound reign of Anderson Silva along the way. Once regarded as the unquestioned best in the division, Weidman knows he has some work to do to regain that status after being finished by Yoel Romero and Luke Rockhold in his last two outings. Still, the “All-American” doesn’t view the showdown with Mousasi as a crossroads fight in his career. “Crossroads? No. I don’t see it as a threat, I see it as a challenge,” Weidman said during a recent conference call. “I’ve got a tough guy in front of me who’s on a win streak. [That’s] something I’m very familiar with, fighting guys on win streaks. I want to become the best in the world, I want to get that belt back. Fighting a guy like Gegard Mousasi is the type of guy I need to do it. I’m more motivated than ever to get the job done, especially coming off of two losses.

Bellator Adds Ex-Invicta FC Talent Amanda Bell to Women’s Featherweight Division

Four-time Invicta Fighting Championships competitor Amanda Bell has signed a contract with Bellator MMA. The California-based promotion announced the signing on Tuesday. A date and opponent for Bell’s Bellator debut were not revealed. The promotion recently crowned its inaugural women’s 145-pound champion on March 3, when Julia Budd earned a fourth-round technical knockout triumph against Marloes Coenen at Bellator 174. Excited to announce @TheLadyKiller00 Amanda Bell will be joining the Women’s Featherweight division #BellatorNation! — Bellator MMA (@BellatorMMA) April 4, 2017 Bell owns a 4-4 career mark and is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Gabrielle Holloway at KOTC “Heavy Trauma” on Feb. 4. “The Lady Killer” is probably best known for her 37-second knockout victory of Ronda Rousey training partner Marina Shafir in 2014. Bell went 1-3 in Invicta, notably falling Megan Anderson , the organization’s current featherweight queen, via first-round KO last May. Bell’s lone Invicta triumph was a first-round stoppage of Maria Hougaard Djursaa in November 2014.

Terence Crawford to Defend 140-Pound Titles vs. Felix Diaz on HBO on May 20

Top Rank announced Tuesday afternoon that undefeated junior welterweight champion Terence Crawford will make his 2017 debut in the greatest combat arena in the world: Madison Square Garden in New York. Crawford will put his WBO, WBC and Ring Magazine 140-pound titles on the line when he takes on challenger Felix Diaz. Their bout will serve as the main event of an HBO World Championship Boxing event set for May 20. The action will go live on the cable giant beginning at 10:15 p.m. ET/7:15 p.m. PT. Crawford (30-0, 21 KOs) has quickly become one of boxing’s brightest young stars and doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time in the near future. “Bud” captured the WBO lightweight belt in 2014 when he dominated Ricky Burns via unanimous decision. After making two successful defenses, the Omaha, Neb., native moved up to junior welterweight where he quickly scooped up that division’s WBO crown in 2015 by knocking out Thomas Dulorme in the sixth. He added the WBC version by pummeling Viktor Postol last July and is coming off an eighth-round TKO of John Molina Jr. in December. Diaz is up next and Crawford is ready.

Ward-Kovalev 2 Set for June 17 in Las Vegas

Andre Ward will collide with Sergey Kovalev in one of the most eagerly-anticipated rematches in ages on June 17. On the heels of their dramatic first encounter last November at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas that ended in controversy, the two best light heavyweights on the planets will hopefully settle the score once and for all. Though he was dropped and hurt badly early in the fight, Ward (30-0, 15 KOs) righted the ship and seized control of the latter rounds to win a narrow unanimous decision. All three ringside judges saw it 114-113 for “SOG” though many fans and members of the boxing media thought that Kovalev should have had his hand raised. “I'm going to keep it short and sweet,” said Ward on Tuesday during the fight announcement. “You got what you asked for, now you have to see me on June 17. This time, leave the excuses at home.” Kovalev (30-1-1, 26 KOs) lost his WBA, IBF and WBO 175-pound titles in the loss, which he vehemently protested. Though he’s admitted to allowing the American back into the fight down the stretch, the Russian knows has can knock Ward out and that’s what he expects to do when they lock horns again.

Tibau Looking Smaller Nearing End Of 2-Year USADA Ban?

The Ultimate Fighting Championship signed a deal with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) to help clean the sport of mixed martial arts and rid the octagon of performance enhancing drugs. Fighters who are on the active UFC roster are subjected to random drug tests, and Gleison Tibau was among one of the first fighters to receive a major suspension from USADA.

Daniel Cormier Disputes Notion That Anthony Johnson is Different Fighter Since First Bout

There is no doubt that Anthony Johnson has been on a roll since falling to Daniel Cormier in their bout for the vacant light heavyweight championship at UFC 187. In a little more than seven minutes of Octagon time, “Rumble” has dispatched Jimi Manuwa , Ryan Bader and Glover Teixeira , earning himself a rematch with Cormier on Saturday in the UFC 210 headliner in Buffalo. Johnson started quickly in his first meeting with Cormier, dropping the American Kickboxing Academy product with an overhand right in the early moments of the first round. From there, however, Cormier imposed his will through wrestling en route to winning via rear-naked choke at the 2:39 mark of round three. Some observers will point to Johnson’s victory over Bader, a former NCAA All-American wrestler at Arizona State University, as a sign of improvement in his overall game. Cormier says that fight, which ended via knockout 1:26 into the first round, is hardly indicative of some kind of wholesale change to Johnson’s approach. “Ryan Bader shot from halfway across the Octagon. They said, ‘Fight’ and before Ryan Bader could meet Anthony in the middle of the Octagon, he shot,” Cormier said.

Will Brooks explains why one day he 'will be the lightweight champion' in the UFC | FOX Sports

“I’ve have had an issue with fighting down to guy’s levels. If a guy I felt like or most people would seem like ‘well he’s not on Will’s level’, I tend to fight at their level,” Brooks said. “So to have a guy like [Charles] Oliveira, who’s going to be coming at a high level and he’s going to be pushing the pace, that brings out the best in me. I go back to one of the biggest examples of my career. The fight of my career against Michael Chandler. He’s one of the better guys that I’ve ever fought in my career and I believe that type of guy brings the best out of me.

Stephen Thompson Sidelined Due to Surgery |

When he does return, Thompson will look to rebound from the loss to Woodley and hopefully lobby for a third match against the current welterweight champ. He’d like nothing more than to even up their series at a win for each with one draw between them.
