Preview: UFC 210 ‘Cormier vs. Johnson 2’ - Cormier vs. Johnson
With Jon
Jones ’ suspension still in place, the
Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight division moves
on. Daniel
Cormier holds the belt, and he wears it well. He first earned
it by defeating Anthony
Johnson at UFC 187, but “Rumble” is back with a vengeance,
having knocked out three straight opponents on his path back to the
title. The two best active light heavyweights in the world will
meet at UFC
210 on Saturday in Buffalo, New York, and that is must-see TV.
Speaking of the best fighting the best, former middleweight
champion Chris
Weidman will take on Gegard
Mousasi in the co-main event. Mousasi, too, has compiled an
impressive, knockout-filled winning streak, and Weidman will need
to fight hard to prove he still belongs in the title picture after
a brutal loss to Yoel Romero
in December.
Former Bellator
MMA champion Will Brooks
will attempt to regain the momentum stolen from him by Alex
Oliveira late last year, as he takes on submission specialist
Charles
Oliveira . Further down on the preliminaries, blue-chip prospect
Kamaru
Usman will have his hands full with the precise striking of
divisional dark horse Sean
Strickland .

Gegard Mousasi: Michael Bisping is the 'weakest' amongst the top five middleweights | FOX Sports
“At the end of the day he’s trying to push the pace. He’s going to work on conditioning and he’s going to come forward. That’s his way of fighting. I think he really underestimates my stand up. He’s not going to walk forward as much as he thinks he can. He’s a guy who brings the fight, but I think my stand up is way, way much better than him. I think I have the best stand up in the middleweights. I think that’s why the fight will be heavily favored to me,” Mousasi explained.

5 Things You Might Not Know About Gegard Mousasi
Gegard
Mousasi has little left to accomplish in professional mixed
martial arts, but the shine of an
Ultimate Fighting Championship title remains notably absent
from his mantle.
The 31-year-old former Dream ,
Strikeforce
and
Cage Warriors Fighting Championship titleholder can take a
significant step towards filling that void when he meets Chris
Weidman in the UFC
210 co-main event on Saturday at KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New
York ( online betting ). Mousasi enters the high-stakes match
beneath champion Michael
Bisping in the middleweight pecking order, jockeying for
position in a long line of contenders that includes Weidman,
Georges St.
Pierre , Yoel Romero ,
Ronaldo
Souza , Luke
Rockhold and Robert
Whittaker . Currently on a four-fight winning streak, “The
Dreamcatcher” last appeared in the UFC Fight Night 99 headliner on
Nov. 19, when he put away Uriah Hall
with first-round punches in the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern
Ireland, and avenged a surprising 2015 defeat to “The Ultimate
Fighter 17” finalist.
As Mousasi approaches his pivotal showdown with Weidman, here are
five things you might not know about him:

Dana White can't understand why fans don't embrace Daniel Cormier | FOX Sports
“At the end of the day, when I win my fights and I keep the belt, I bring the belt home to the people that matter. The fans that support me, they share in those moments with me. The ones that don’t they boo me in the moment and then they go about their business and they can boo me next time they see me or they can mess around on my social media but that stuff doesn’t matter. Coach: Conor McGregor Has Already Started Training for Floyd Mayweather
While there remains no official date for Conor
McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather, that doesn’t mean the UFC
champion can’t begin preparations for what would likely be the
greatest challenge of his combat sports career.
According to SBG Ireland head trainer John
Kavanagh , McGregor is already training like the fight is a done
deal.
“In my mind, it’s on. That’s the mentality we’re in,” Kavanagh told
Fox Sports Australia . “There’s a lot of fingers in the pie with
this one — there’s different promotions, different organizations,
there’s different commissions that are involved.
“But as far as I’m concerned, I’m really convinced it’s going to
happen this year and that’s the mindset that I have. Let the people
in the suits worry about the paperwork, we’re training for it.”
Last month, Mayweather officially ended his retirement to pursue a
bout with McGregor. The “Notorious” one, meanwhile, began calling
out the undefeated boxer in earnest following his victory over
Eddie
Alvarez at UFC 205 this past November.
McGregor is still under UFC contract, which is one of the major
hurdles to which Kavanagh refers.

Opinion: Why a Rematch of the Worst Title Fight in MMA History is Necessary
Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those
of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of
Sherdog.com, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company,
Evolve Media.

Mixed martial arts fans are, thanks mostly to longtime
Ultimate Fighting Championship matchmaker Joe Silva’s booking
philosophy, rather averse to rematches, especially immediate ones.
The trends have reversed lately, to the point that both major MMA
events this Saturday are headlined by championship rematches, one
of which is immediate. Both are the right fights to make, though
the circumstances around them are very different.
UFC 210 in Buffalo, New York, is headlined by the obvious light
heavyweight title fight right now: Daniel
Cormier defending against the man he beat to win the vacant
title in 2015, Anthony
Johnson . Meanwhile, in Torino, Italy, Bellator
MMA ’s main event sees middleweight champion Rafael
Carvalho defending his title against the man that everyone but
two of the judges thought beat him in their last fight: Melvin
Manhoef .
Oh, and that first fight between Manhoef and Carvalho? It was
literally one of the worst “contests” in the history of major
league MMA.

UFC 210 Statistical Matchup Analysis: Cormier vs. Johnson 2
It has been a year and a half since the undisputed
Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight title has been
up for grabs. After Daniel
Cormier defeated Anthony
Johnson in May 2015 and captured the championship vacated by
Jon
Jones , the belt has been defended once and interrupted several
times. Jones came back to win an interim title against Ovince St.
Preux a year ago but was forced out of a unification bout with
Cormier at UFC 200 after a last-second United States Anti-Doping
Agency violation. Then, the rematch between Cormier and Johnson was
scheduled for UFC 206 in December, only to be scrapped by an injury
to the champion.
Finally, the promotion’s most storied title will be contested again
when Cormier meets Johnson in the UFC
210 main event on Saturday in Buffalo, New York. Cormier was
last in action against Anderson
Silva in July, when he took a lopsided unanimous decision and
handed the former middleweight champion his first loss at 205
pounds. Last year was the first time since 2012 that Cormier only
fought once in a calendar year, and this will be his first fight of
2017 ( online sportsbooks ).

‘King Mo’ vs. 'Rampage’ Headliner at Bellator 175 Peaks at 1.6 Million Viewers on Spike
The
Bellator 175 main event between Muhammed
Lawal and Quinton
Jackson peaked at 1.6 million viewers on Spike, according to a
release from the network.
The heavyweight headliner drew an average of 1.4 million viewers
for the three-round fight, which “King Mo” won via unanimous
decision. Lawal and Jackson first fought at Bellator 120 in May
2014, with “Rampage” winning a contentious decision. Their initial
meeting was the featured bout for the promotion’s inaugural
pay-per-view offering.
Bellator 175 took place at Allstate Arena in Chicago this past
Friday and also saw Emmanuel
Sanchez take a three-round verdict over Marcos
Galvao in the evening’s co-main event. The card as a whole
averaged 1 million viewers and garnered a 0.9 rating in the
18-to-49 year-old male demographic, which ranked third in its time
slot.
Thus far in 2017, Bellator MMA is averaging 993,000 viewers, a 26
percent increase over the previous year. Up next for the
California-based promotion is Bellator 177, which takes place in
Turin, Italy on Saturday and is topped by a middleweight
championship rematch between Rafael
Carvalho and Melvin
Manhoef .

Prospects Ed Ruth, Tyrell Fortune Set to Compete on Bellator 178 Prelims
Two of Bellator MMA’s most promising prospects will return to
action on April 21.
The California-based promotion announced on Wednesday that standout
wrestlers Ed Ruth and
Tyrell
Fortune will fight on the preliminary card of
Bellator 178 . Ruth will face Aaron
Goodwine , while Fortune will lock horns with Branko Busick.
Ruth, a former three-time NCAA national champion wrestler at Penn
State University, went 2-0 to begin his Bellator MMA tenure in
2016. After stopping Dustin-Collins Miles via first-round TKO in

Palombi a little more than one month later at Bellator 168.
Goodwine, meanwhile, is 1-0 as a professional.
Fortune was a Division II national champion wrestler at Grand
Canyon University. The 26-year-old heavyweight is also 2-0 with the
promotion, with TKO triumphs over Cody
Miskell at Bellator 163 and Will
Johnson at Bellator 171 to his credit. Busick will be making
his professional debut.
Bellator 178 takes place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
