The Fat-Burning Cardio Exercise You're Not Doing
The setup: Before you start yanking away, set the resistance low (you can always increase once you get the hang of it). Sit down and strap in your feet securely. Grasp the handle with an overhand grip and scoot the seat forward so your arms are straight out and your knees are bent up. Your chest and back will be leaning forward slightly from the hips (though not hunched) so they’re roughly parallel to your thighs.

Dustin Poirier: A Long Way from Fightville
Three years ago inside a darkened movie theater in Toronto, Dustin Poirier watched, slouched in his chair, as his career on the regional MMA circuit played out on the big screen. The breakout star of the critically acclaimed documentary Fightville, which opened the 2011 Hot Docs Festival two days prior to 55,000 people packing the Rogers Centre for UFC 129, the humble Louisiana native was still adjusting to being in the spotlight. While the film tracked his rise through the ranks in his home state, culminating with his knockout win over Derek Gauthier in Montreal and a note that the then-unbeaten fighter was ultimately signed by the WEC, Poirier had already started on his next journey. On New Year’s Day, “The Diamond” earned his first UFC win, dominating title contender Josh Grispi and establishing himself as one to watch in the brand new featherweight division. Three years later, he’s still travelling the same road, but he’s not the same fighter. * * * Poirier no longer lives in Lafayette, Louisiana, eschewing the only place he’d called home and the gym where he first honed his fighting skills into something that could provide a better life for him and his family a year-and-a-half ago.

Roasted Green Beans
I thought these tasted good. I had about 1/2 - 3/4 of a lb of French haricot green beans that I had thrown in the freezer. I defrosted them and followed the recipe. I kept the olive oil the same but reduced the seasonings as I didn't have enough green beans for the full recipe. I lined a baking sheet with foil and spread out the green beans and baked them 17 minutes. They were looking a little dry to me to bake them further. They didn't have tons of flavor, on their own, so I added about a tsp of butter and low sodium soy sauce to give them a boost. I served them more as a side dish. I would make them again. It's hard to get green beans the right consistency. This high temperature method seems to be the trick.

Dan Hardy: The Outlaw | VICE United States
Hardy lives somewhere between isolation and aimlessness. When he's training for a fight he practically lives at the gym, and even when he doesn't have a fight on the horizon, he's still training as much as possible. He tells filmmaker and Blood for Blood bassist Ian McFarland what he thinks constant competition is doing to him. He’s an angry dude who wants to slow down and "chill out" eventually, but right now he gets off on the violence, on the discipline, on the superiority of beating another man down. Only fighters, he says, know what it’s like to prepare for a fight, and then withstand one. Everyone else has expectations, but no one else understands.
7 Unhealthy Everyday Foods: Processed and Problematic
Everyone from dietitians to health food fanatics to school children can tell you that sugary sodas, diet or regular, are not a wise decision from a nutrition standpoint. The war on the carbonated concoctions has successfully sounded its message across America, and to prove their point, health experts point to the chemicals you find on the back of the bottle. But the soda industry isn’t the only one to blame for loading products full of sugar and chemicals: A lot of processed (and some unprocessed) foods pose health concerns on par with the fizzing beverages.
Manager reacts to Jake Shields' abrupt UFC release: 'It just shows you the nature of this sport'
"To lose one fight and then all of a sudden be out of a job was something that I believe was surprising and not contemplated," McMahon admitted. "To be honest, we were really positioned and looking for Jake as a potential title contender, given the mix of the landscape after Georges (St-Pierre) retired. Jake had beaten pretty much everybody that was out there. He beat Condit, he beat Woodley, he beat Maia. So really, there wasn't too many other options. With the right performance, I think (he could've been fighting for the title).

Baby Hannah has many doctors appointments sometimes as many as 8 a week. Hannah will be going to Sick Kids Hospital on Nov 9th that is when they plan on doing 1 of the operations she needs. Hannah will likely remain at Sick Kids for a month or so and then return home only to have more operations in Feb of 2014 (Just to update you Hannah is now at Sick Kids Hospital). The doctors are guessing Hannah will need somewhere in the range of 7 to 9 surgeries in all to fix most of her issues then at a later time she will have some plastic/reconstructive surgeries. We are asking that you support us as we try to raise money to help offset the bills that are stacking up and to help with the many bills that will follow.
Dennis Siver admits to using 'hCG drops' prior to UFC 168
"Before my last fight, I took a medium to help me with my diet, hCG drops. This is an over the counter product, you can buy it on the internet. It’s nothing bad, it was supposed to help burning fat and it helps suppressing the hungry feeling. That’s why I tried it, and unfortunately, it came up in the drug test. There was a small value in my sample, but it was enough to suspend me indefinitely until the situation is going to be dissolved.
UFC releases Jake Shields
Shields, who made his MMA debut in 1999, is a former EliteXC welterweight champion and Strikeforce middleweight champion. Arguably his highest-profile win came when he defeated Dan Henderson on CBS. He signed with the UFC following that win and went 4-3 with 1 no contest inside the Octagon. His no contest came after he failed a post-fight drug test for an undisclosed reason following his UFC 150 win over Ed Herman in Aug. 2012.

Viewpoint: Promoting Change
Jones sounds like a man who wants to tackle the PED issue. | Photo:
Change in its most significant form starts at the top.
When it comes to exacting change in mixed martial arts, the
individual --not the brand -- is responsible for breaking new
ground. Jon Jones ,
like Georges St.
Pierre before him, recognizes that fact.
Jones last week revealed to UFC Tonight
that he and his management team requested random drug testing ahead
of his light heavyweight title defense against Glover
Teixeira at UFC
“The Maryland commission sent a lab to drug test me, and I’m glad
they did,” Jones told Ariel Helwani on April 2. “It was urine and
blood. They had a test for HGH, I think it was HGH, then they had a
urine test that detects all other type of stuff.”
Anyone with access to a dictionary knows that liberties were taken
with the definition of “random” here; and the fact that Jones’ test
occurred on the exact same day that the
Ultimate Fighting Championship just happened to hold a national
media day at the Jackson-Wink MMA gym in Albuquerque, N.
Bruce Lee to feature in EA Sports UFC video game - Fighters Only
“There hasn’t been a Bruce Lee video game in a while,” says Shannon Lee, daughter of the legendary movie star, who has been working with EA Sports and the UFC to make this gaming move possible. “Not that this is a Bruce Lee video game, but to be able to bring my father into that space in a way that I think is super fun and pretty exciting was intriguing to me.
Former UFC fighter planks his opponent and nearly pulls off a run-away KO
Last night I arrived in Hollywood from Downtown LA on the Metro -- I missed my stop so I got off at the Sunset and Vermont exit and decided to walk back home since the weather that evening was immaculate. I'm not sure how many of you actually visited that part of Hollywood, but there's a gargantuan Scientology building flamboyantly located in the middle of some rather high-priced real estate. It's blue color is accented with a giant cross at the top, which just reinforces the fact that all religious buildings are constantly competing to be as tacky as possible. There's nothing 'cool' about the Scientology building or the color-coordinated outfits their followers wear. Every Scientologist that I see walking around looks like they're in their second semester of Space Camp -- and maybe they are . No one knows what's hidden inside that colossal complex, although I have heard rumors that engineers have been constructing a space craft in the facility since 2010.
No coaching rivalry for TUF Nations' Kyle Noke, but country vs. country adds flare
The Aussie vs. Canuck angle might not be the rivalry it was touted to be by the promotion, but Noke said that fire did help to make the fights exciting. Noke said he was caught up in the fates of his students, just as most coaches of the reality show are, but the added context added more fuel to the fire.
Roy Nelson won a lot of grappling tournaments but never once trained for a match
Most of it comes from Nelson earning a black belt in jiu-jitsu from famed trainer Renzo Gracie, and long before he was a top 10 ranked UFC heavyweight, he was a well known and well versed champion on the grappling circuits. Long before promotions like Metamoris were putting jiu-jitsu matches on pay-per-view, Nelson was in the grappling circuit, locking up with the best in the world on seemingly a weekly basis and that buzz helped launch him into his MMA career.
After health scare, Clay Guida promises return to exciting style
This Friday he gets back to the business of returning to the win column when he faces Tatsuya Kawajiri at a UFC Fight Night: Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. But the night's task isn't so simple as winning. Once one of the UFC's most popular fighters, he's faced the wrath of fans in recent fights who feel he's negatively adjusted his style to favor a more conservative approach. Most of the backlash truly began with a five-round split decision loss to Gray Maynard in which Guida managed to throw 327 strikes yet heard post-fight criticism from Dana White that characterized him as "running around in circles. Literally running."
Mike Goldberg discusses transition from hockey to the UFC, says he understands ‘what the UFC machine is all about’
"[The transition to the UFC was] 100 percent from hockey. One of my producers was Bruce Connell, and he is still my producer today. Bruce had been on the ESPN crew for years. Bruce liked my work, and his family company had the rights to the broadcast of the UFC through SEG. So long story short, Bruce calls and says, ‘Goldie, I have a gig for you. It's in Japan. They'll pay you X amount of dollars but you have to take a jiu-jitsu class.' All I heard was ‘Japan' and ‘gig' and that was it - Ultimate Japan in 1997. "

Kedzie on training with men: ‘The only times I've been knocked out in training has been by men, not women’
"The only times I've been knocked out in training has been by men, not women. I would take the blame on myself for that because it wasn't that they were going too hard for me. It was mostly they were going light and I was going too hard. It's not that they would actually have too much pressure on me, but that I would slam into them."
Fighter Diet for body makeover
" I was 210 post partum twice, so this is huge for Me. My booty still needs work, but I'm def a body type that can get fat fast, and its hard to build muscle, but the composition of my legs is drastic and gives Me faith. Thanks for all your motivation, I get you girl and I have a sensitive heart, you don't hurt my feelings, u hurt my ass from those bad ass workouts! Oh yeah! Peace!"
Of course, MMA fans being MMA fans, half of the questions Brown was forced to answer were either related to the back injury that forced him out of his UFC on FOX 9 fight with Carlos Condit , or how many wins he felt he was from a title shot. Real thought-provoking stuff, you guys. There were, however, a handful of questions that managed to get a rise out of “The Immortal,” so here are the 10 best ones.
Champ Jon Jones says he's OK with UFC uniforms if it benefits the fighters
Unless he works out a special arrangement, light heavyweight champion Jon Jones could lose money if the UFC decides to institute mandatory uniforms. Yet he isn’t opposed to the idea.

After an unsuccessful UFC stint, De Fries was looking for a second

Midway through the opening round, Ishii showcased the judo skills
which brought him Olympic gold in 2008, executing two consecutive

able to control De Fries without doing any serious damage.
The second stanza started with the heavyweights exchanging punches,
but again Ishii was able to use the same trip to put De Fries on
his back. This time, the UFC veteran succeeded in working his way
back up but received a warning from the referee for having grabbed
the ring ropes during the process.
UFC announces June 28th event in New Zealand, James Te Huna vs. Nate Marquardt serves as main event
I understand that this is a Fight Pass show, but this is definitely one of the weakest intended main events the UFC has produced. Marquardt has no UFC wins since 2011 and is 2-4 overall in his last 6. Te Huna has either lost to UFC contenders or has defeated non-UFC quality fighters (such as Aaron Rosa, Joey Beltran, and Ricardo Romero), so the main event is essentially solely riding on his value as a New Zealand native. This is the exact type of fight that should have the UFC re-examining what is and what isn't a five-round caliber fight.
