UFC 211 ‘Miocic vs. dos Santos 2’ Play-by-Play, Results & Round-by-Round Scoring

Jessica Aguilar vs. Cortney Casey Round 1 Casey connects with a two-piece combination straight away, but Aguilar lands a low kick that trips "Cast Iron" to the canvas. Aguilar follows her downed opponent to the mat, but Casey throws up her long guard and forces the veteran to stand. Casey kicks Aguilar away, jumps back to her feet and blitzes the American Top Team fighter with a four- or five-punch combination at the fence. Aguilar dashes away and resets, then begins to press forward, but she walks into more punches and kicks from the larger woman. Another low kick from Aguilar drops Casey; this time, Aguilar grabs hold of one of Casey's legs and drags her back to the center of the cage. Halfway through the opening round, the still prone Casey pops the standing Aguilar with an upkick. Aguilar kneels down in Casey's guard, and the pace slows on the ground; referee Kerry Hatley orders the fighters back to their feet with 90 seconds on the clock. Casey bounces a pair of hooks off Aguilar's arms but scores with an uppercut at the end of the combo. Aguilar tries to clinch and gets spun against the fence by Casey, who closes the round with another uppercut.

Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones Title Rematch Official for UFC 214 in Anaheim

The Ultimate Fighting Championship will hope the third time is the charm when it comes to booking the Daniel Cormier - Jon Jones light heavyweight championship rematch. The promotion announced that Cormier will defend his title against Jones at UFC 214 in Anaheim on July 29 during a summer kick-off press conference in Dallas on Friday. UFC 214 takes place at the Honda Center and will also include a featherweight tilt between Doo Ho Choi and Andre Fili . Jones and Cormier initially squared off at UFC 182 on Jan. 3, 2015, with Jones retaining his light heavyweight title in a five-round unanimous decision triumph. Jones was stripped of the belt and suspended by the UFC after being arrested for fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run accident in Albuquerque, N.M., in April 2015. Cormier then claimed the vacant light heavyweight strap with a third-round submission of Anthony Johnson at UFC 187. “DC” has since made successful title defenses against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 192 and Johnson again at UFC 210. He also outpointed Anderson Silva at UFC 200, a non-title bout that was put together just days before the event after Jones was pulled from the card.

Eddie Alvarez and Waking Up Naked in the Classroom

Eddie Alvarez possesses what one can call hard-hat eyes. If he was not pounding people in the cage, it is easy to envision the former Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight titleholder on a North Philadelphia construction site, busting up concrete with a jackhammer in his hands. He wears a kind of old-school grainy, black-and-white film demeanor that also makes it easy to see him fighting in any era. That is why it was so hard to hear what he did driving down the New Jersey Turnpike the day after he lost to Conor McGregor at UFC 205 in the first Ultimate Fighting Championship event to ever take place in historic Madison Square Garden. Alvarez was stopped inside two rounds, and his 128-day title reign was the shortest of any champion in UFC divisional history. Alvarez admits getting over the McGregor loss took him longer than he expected. “The next morning, we packed a van and drove straight home, and I cried almost the whole ride home,” Alvarez told Sherdog.com, a tinge of trepidation in his voice. “It was weird, because I was in front of my kids and my wife. I felt a lot of things, like I let people down.

UFC 211 results: Chase Sherman finally stops Rashad Coulter in crazy heavyweight slugfest

“I wanted to pace myself a little bit more, but Rashad likes to come out and brawl,” Sherman said. “He’s finished all of his fights in the first round, so naturally he was looking for that first-round finish. I knew I was going to have to weather that first-round storm and pick my shots, but I’m a sucker for brawling, too. I’ll take one to give one any day. He’s tough. I’m the same way. I don’t mind taking a punch. I hit him with several knees to the head, a couple elbows, a couple right hands, but he kept coming forward and kept pushing. He’s a really tough guy. He just needs to get use to the pace at this level of fighting.”

Opinion: The UFC's Silly, Stumbling Road to Sanity

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Sherdog.com, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. * * * In a shocking upset, sanity and legitimacy have prevailed in a high-stakes Ultimate Fighting Championship decision-making process. Yes, UFC President Dana White on Wednesday took to Fox Sports Australia's “UFC Fight Week” to drop the bombshell of rationality: The promotion was done waiting for recently unretired welterweight legend Georges St. Pierre , who has repeatedly stated he will not fight until after October. As a result, his proposed middleweight title challenge against Michael Bisping was on freeze. Instead, “The Count” would defend in the coming months against the rightful No. 1 contender at 185 pounds, Yoel Romero . “I made this GSP fight; we did a press conference. The thing was supposed to happen in July. Michael Bisping is going to have to defend his title now. We’re not waiting for GSP,” White said. “[Yoel] doesn’t need to voice his opinion on why he needs a title shot.

UFC 211 results: Cortney Casey cruises to shutout of former WSOF champ Jessica Aguilar

“I feel a little bit of disappointment,” Casey said. “I’m happy I got the win, but I’m a little bit disappointed in my performance. It was a good win against a great opponent. UFC 211 Statistical Matchup Analysis: Jedrzejczyk vs. Andrade

After a few weeks without any events, the Ultimate Fighting Championship returns with a stacked lineup for UFC 211 on Saturday at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. In the co-main event, the women’s strawweight championship is up for grabs, as defending champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk meets streaking contender Jessica Andrade . The undefeated Jedrzejczyk has been in a class of her own ever since she knocked out inaugural strawweight champion Carla Esparza in 2015. Since then, she has reeled off four consecutive and dominant title defenses while seldom finding herself in any real danger. She was last active in November, when she took a lopsided unanimous decision against Karolina Kowalkiewicz at UFC 205. She is currently the second-most tenured UFC champion, trailing only Demetrious Johnson in the number of title defenses and the length of her reign. On the other side of the cage, Andrade will look to snatch the crown and extend her winning streak to four fights at the same time. After starting off her UFC career 4-3 in the bantamweight division, she dropped to a more natural 115-pound weight class at UFC 199 in 2016.

Justin Gaethje to Make UFC Debut vs. Michael Johnson in ‘TUF 25’ Finale Main Event

Justin Gaethje wanted a difficult matchup for his Octagon debut, and he is going to get his wish. The recently-signed former World Series of Fighting lightweight champion will lock horns with Michael Jonson at "The Ultimate Fighter 25" finale headliner in Las Vegas on July 7. The 155-pound bout as announced during a summer kickoff press conference in Dallas on Friday. The “TUF 25” finale takes place at the T-Mobile Arena and will be televised on Fox Sports 1. Gaethje established himself as one of the top lightweight fighters outside the UFC during a run in WSOF that saw him compile a 10-0 mark in the promotion while capturing the 155-pound belt. Gaethje is 17-0 as a professional with wins over the likes of Luis Palomino (twice), Brian Foster , Melvin Guillard and Gesias Cavalcante . Johnson, meanwhile, has lost three of his last four – albeit against top-flight competition. “The Menace” last appeared at UFC 205, where he was dominated by Khabib Nurmagomedov en route to losing via kimura in the third round. Prior to that, Johnson scored an impressive first-round knockout of Dustin Poirier at UFC Fight Night 94.

Why Dana White had reason to laugh after Kevin Lee punched Michael Chiesa at press conference

Chiesa quickly became irate – “Don’t you ever talk about my (expletive) mom, or I’m going to smack the (expletive) out of you right now,” he warned – and ultimately charged after Lee, who seemed to land a clean punch during the melee (watch it above). While some type of punishment could be on the horizon, White did manage a laugh while discussing the heated scene.

Dana White: Cormier-Jones Gets Headlining Status at UFC 214; Manuwa on Card as Backup

Dana White still doesn’t completely trust Jon Jones , but the former champ will nonetheless get top billing for his rematch with Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 . The UFC boss confirmed with Fox Sports on Friday that Cormier’s light heavyweight title defense against Jones will serve as the headliner for the July 29 event in Anaheim, Calif. White previously said that Jones wasn’t reliable enough to get a main event spot when he returns from his USADA-mandated suspension this summer. However, White also has a backup plan in the event Jones isn’t able to make it to fight night. “DC and Jon Jones will be the main event. I’m bringing in [Jimi] Manuwa to fight on the undercard there so if anything happens Jimi Manuwa will be ready to go and step in if that happens,” White said. “I’ve said it a million times. I’m always worried about Jones. I’m gonna put Manuwa on this card to make sure that in Anaheim we have a fight.” At the moment it is unclear who Manuwa might face at UFC 214. The British slugger has won three of his last four in the Octagon and lobbied hard for a title shot against Cormier following his first-round knockout of Corey Anderson in the UFC Fight Night 107 headliner on March 18.
