Sacramento Police to Investigate Alleged Assault by Nate Diaz at Combate Americas Event

The Sacramento Police Department is investigating whether Nate Diaz committed assault during an altercation with fellow UFC fighter Clay Guida this past Friday, according to multiple reports. The incident occurred at Combate Americas’ “Mexico vs. USA” event at the McClellan Conference Center in McClellan Park, Calif., as a near brawl allegedly occurred with Diaz and Guida as the main primary figures. Guida’s manager, John Fosco, confirmed to that the UFC veteran filed a police report following the incident. The melee allegedly started when Diaz shoved Guida from behind, sending “The Carpenter” into a guardrail and bloodying his lip. Guida is accusing Diaz of battery. Guida’s training partner, “The Ultimate Fighter 27” competitor Tyler Diamond , claimed on social media that Diaz slapped him and one of “his groupies rabbit punched me” when he stepped in to try and de-escalate the situation. “If it is found the victim was assaulted then a warrant request will be completed and submitted to the District Attorney’s office for review. “The filing decision will be up to the DA,” sheriff’s department spokesman Sgt.

MMA Would Miss Michael Bisping

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. * * * Say what you will about Michael Bisping , but the sport of mixed martial arts would certainly lose one of its gamest fighters if his hints become reality and he decides to retire . Even when he loses, “The Count” finds a way to come back and win over fans. The 39-year-old winner of Season 3 of “The Ultimate Fighter” began his career in 2004 and enjoyed a string of victories before suffering his first loss in a split decision to Rashad Evans at UFC 78. As the sport grew in popularity, Bisping never let his setbacks interfere with his thirst to compete. Perhaps that’s why his considering retirement shakes some of us. With that said, no one wants to see fighters hang around longer than they should. Many fighters are afforded opportunities to avenge their losses, but few excel at it the way Bisping has throughout his career.

Kelvin Gastelum Willing to Sit Out Until He Receives UFC Middleweight Title Shot

It’s safe to say that Kelvin Gastelum ’s move to middleweight has gone well, as “The Ultimate Fighter 17” winner has lost just once in six appearances since leaving the welterweight division. His ascent continued at UFC 224 with a split-decision over Ronaldo Souza , who is consistently among the top contenders in the weight class, in the evening’s co-main event. I’m the most active middleweight there has been. All the guys that I’ve fought are top 10 or former champions, so I feel like I’m deserving.

Demian Maia: 5 Defining Moments

The last time Demian Maia suffered consecutive defeats, he bounced back with seven straight wins. That was four years ago, and Maia has made consistent improvements to his all-around game. On the heels of back-to-back losses to Tyron Woodley and Colby Covington , the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt will attempt to get back to winning ways when he takes on Kamaru Usman in the UFC Fight Night 129 headliner on Saturday in Santiago, Chile. Ahead of Maia’s showdown with Usman, here are five moments that have come to define him: The Arrival Maia provided a glimpse into his rich grappling pedigree in his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut at UFC 77, where he submitted Ryan Jensen with a rear-naked choke in the first round. Matches to Make After UFC 224

Pooled blood on the canvas told the story: The Ultimate Fighting Championship women’s bantamweight title was going nowhere. Amanda Nunes retained the 135-pound crown with yet another one-sided performance, as she disposed of Raquel Pennington with punches in the fifth round of their UFC 224 main event on Saturday at Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro. Her nose mangled by an earlier knee strike from the clinch, Pennington succumbed to blows 2:36 into Round 5. It was as if the Octagon had become a crime scene, lacking only the yellow tape. Nunes was in complete control for most of the fight, slowly walking her game but outmatched challenger into a trap from which there was no escape. According to FightMetric data, the champion nearly doubled Pennington in terms of significant strikes, 124-64, answered a takedown with three of her own and outperformed “The Ultimate Fighter 18” semifinalist in the following categories: head strikes (72-49), body strikes (31-10), leg strikes (21-5), strikes from distance (96-56), clinch strikes (15-7) and ground strikes (13-1).

UFC 224 reactions: Winning and losing fighters on social media

#Forever I am extremely proud of my lady. You are a warrior babe. Fought every second you possibly could. You continue to amaze me daily. You motivate me to work hard and one day too receive the same opportunity to fight for a UFC championship. We are the 1%ers. Very few will ever know what we go thru as fighters and an even smaller percentage will ever earn the chance to fight on such a big stage and for a world title. #RideOrDie #AlwaysProud PS: Both us and our coaches agree with the decision made to go into the 5th round. We know Raquel more than anyone else and know if we let her give up on herself going into the last round she would have always regretted it. She fought with heart and grit until the end. PSS: Exactly one year ago today you asked me to marry you, I can't freaking wait to wife you! 💍 @raquel_pennington

Matt Mitrione Wants Fedor Rematch in Russia for Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix Final

Matt Mitrione has a vision of how he would like the Bellator heavyweight grand prix to unfold. “The Ultimate Fighter 10” veteran will square off against light heavyweight champion Ryan Bader in one semifinal, while Fedor Emelianenko will lock horns with Chael Sonnen in the other half of the bracket. A rematch in hostile territory would be Mitrione’s ideal scenario for the final round. “After I beat Bader, if Fedor is lucky enough to get by Chael, I want to fight Fedor in Moscow,” Mitrione said during a Facebook Live chat . “I want to fight him. I want to put hands on him. On Christmas, like ‘Rocky.’ Let’s duplicate this s--t.” Mitrione and Emelianenko initially fought Bellator 180 last June. Following a rare double knockdown in the bout’s opening moments, Mitrione was able to beat “The Last Emperor” to his feet, sprawl on a takedown and finish his opponent with a flurry of punches at the 1:14 mark of round one. For now, though, “Meathead” has more pressing matters to handle in Bader, who is coming off a 15-second knockout of Muhammed Lawal at Bellator 199.

Kamaru Usman made a bold Demian Maia prediction in 2016; now it's put-up-or-shut-up time

“This is fighting at the end of the day,” Usman said. “This is not a football game where a high school player is talking to an NFL player. This is a fight at the end of the day. It might happen that I fight for the belt, but for me, I’m good with whoever comes (next). I’d like to do another fight before I fight for the belt – even for financial reasons because we need to be in a good place to do a camp for a title fight.”
