Melvin Guillard vs. Gesias Cavalcante slated for WSOF 11
Recently released by the UFC, Guillard (31–13–2, 2 no-contests) makes his first appearance outside the promotion since 2008. With 20 finishes under his belt, the lightweight has beaten the likes of Dennis Siver , Evan Dunham and Jeremy Stephens in his 12-9 (1) run in the UFC.
In a featherweight contest between Gareth Buirski and Peter Nyide at EFC Africa 29 yesterday, Buirski pulled off a feat rarely seen in MMA when he elbowed Nyide unconscious with elbows from the bottom. It was a victory that would have surely been lauded by many an MMA fan had it not been overshadowed by the absolutely atrocious stoppage that followed. While the first elbow Buirski threw was enough to render Nyide unconscious, it wasn’t until Buirski had thrown fifteen more that the referee realized that the man lying limp and face down *might* be in trouble. Bravo, sir.
Jim Miller, Donald Cerrone will tangle in Atlantic City main event
Miller (24-4, 1 NC), meanwhile, is one of the sport's most enduring and respected fighters. The Whippany, N.J. native has won three in a row (minus a no-contest), with his past two victories being first-round submission wins. For his part, Miller has six career UFC postfight bonuses.
Why Khabib Nurmagomedov (or Nate Diaz) isn't headlining UFC Fight Night 45
Sources close to the promotion who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss such matter publicly told MMAjunkie that UFC officials were hoping to book Cerrone vs. Nurmagomedov for UFC Fight Night 45, which takes place July 16 at Revel Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, N.J. However, when reps from the fighter’s management team were approached about the potential date, they were forced to decline before even learning about the matchup.
UFC: Luke Rockhold still feels he needs to beat up somebody else before a title shot
Immediately following the event, media, teammates and fans en masse have been calling for Luke to be included in title shot discussion. While the idea is tempting, he still feels he needs to solidify his standing with one or two more fights. In a time when so many fighters are ready to rush into championship bouts too soon, it's refreshing to see one making the journey at a very measured pace.

Ben Affleck -- Booted from Hard Rock Casino for Counting Cards
Ben Affleck 's blackjack days are over ... at least at the Hard Rock in Vegas -- because he was just banned FOR LIFE from playing the game at the casino ... after security says they caught him counting cards. Affleck was in Sin City earlier this week with wife Jennifer Garner . We're told he planned the Vegas trip as a romantic getaway before he ships off to Detroit for several months to shoot his new Batman movie. But things took an unromantic turn Tuesday night -- Hard Rock casino sources tell us, Affleck was playing blackjack at a high rollers' table when security swarmed. According to sources, security informed Affleck he had been deemed an "advantaged player" and was no longer allowed to play blackjack at the Hard Rock. We're told security had spotted Affleck counting cards ... a gambling strategy that involves counting card values to decrease betting risk. Counting cards isn't technically illegal, but it can get you kicked out of a casino -- which is exactly what happened to Affleck. We're told security arranged for a car service to take him back to his hotel. FYI, Affleck is a well-known card shark -- back in 2001, he reportedly amassed $800,000 in blackjack winnings (at the Hard Rock no less) by playing three $20,000 blackjack hands at once.

Alexander Gustafsson on Jon Jones: I think I'm in his head now, and that's good
The champion's mood seemed to change with the mention of Gustafsson's (16-2) name, and Jones (20-1) made it clear that the subject was of no interest to him, "I don't really want to talk about that kid at all," said Jones. When asked a follow up question on Gustafsson, Jones reiterated his stance, "I'm not going to talk about him at all. I'm having a good time. I just won a fight."

P2O Hot Pilates & Fitness in the Sacramento area on the A-List
P2O Hot Pilates & Fitness is proud to be Sacramento's first and only Hot Pilates Studio. Business partners, Lindy Hobbs & Danny Castillo couldn't be more excited to be the first to bring it to this area. Hot Pilates began in Las Vegas about 5 years ago and became popular very quickly. Using traditional Pilates principles, Hot-Pilates is a challenging, full body, low impact, high intensity workout. It is performed on a yoga mat in a room heated to 95 degrees and 45% humidity. Hot-Pilates strengthens muscles and burns fat — all without the pounding of a high impact workout. It is designed for all fitness levels. P2O uses the Inferno Hot Pilates method - created by Gabriella Walters of Las Vegas.
In addition to Hot Pilates, P2O offers much more. We also have full TRX, Running and Kettlebell Programs. Our Kettlebell program is head by Partner and UFC Fighter Danny "Last Call" Castillo. He instructs a Kettlebell class that is a fusion of Aerobic, Anaerobic, Strength, Balance and Plyometrics.

Jon Jones' shoulder crank results in torn labrum for Glover Teixeira; surgery required
According to Teixeira's coach John Hackleman, Jones injured Teixeira's shoulder when he applied a shoulder crank up against the cage at the 3:49 mark of the first round. Teixeira never complained about the injury in between rounds, opting only to tell Hackleman and the rest of his team about the injury in the locker room after the fight. An MRI on Friday in Connecticut revealed the tear, which will require surgery. Teixeira has yet to decide when and where the surgery will take place.
ONE FC 15 Results, Gifs, and Analysis: Bibiano Fernandes defends title, Boxing champ wins MMA debut
As part of the main card, Female boxing champ Ana Julaton stepped in the MMA cage for the first time as she took the first step in being a two-sport athlete. The two-time world champ had a fast track to success in boxing, but MMA is a completely different sport and Julaton wasn't exactly able to replicate this success during her debut. After getting dominated for two and a half rounds against Aya Saeid Saber, the Filipina was able to take advantage of a botched judo throw and ended up on mount. She landed some ground and pound and ended up with a TKO win, but it was clear that Julaton has a lot of work to do before she can win against decent competition in MMA.
High school wrestling rivalry cancelled after students take photo 'lynching' a black practice dummy
A longstanding wrestling rivalry between New Jersey schools appears to be over following a decision by school officials. A photo surfaced in February showing a collection of white students, wrestlers from Phillipsburg High School, posing around around a grappling dummy which was hung around the neck while wearing a t-shirt from Paulsboro High School.
Meet the Future King of Fighting
The deal rendered Pico ineligible for continued amateur competition. Sure, Aaron dreamed of state and national titles, but, well, he was better than those guys, and a larger goal was rising fast on the horizon. Training beyond that offered at the typical college was one factor in the decision, but so, too, was the promise of learning more about freestyle wrestling, the Olympic sport that differs from the folk-style taught in American high schools and colleges and which is generally considered more effective in an MMA context than Greco-Roman wrestling.

Understanding MMA Striking: The Mechanics of Punches, Kicks, and Knees
Mixed martial arts is a complex sport. By its very nature, it pulls its fanbase from a wide variety of backgrounds, ranging from jiu-jitsu enthusiasts to wrestling die-hards to boxing and kickboxing connoisseurs. Even if you happen to fall into that last category, however, the precise mechanics of punching, kicking, kneeing, and elbowing might not be clear to you. MMA commentators are generally too busy, you know, commentating, to explain the basics of weight transfer and hip turnover mid-fight. Even if you train Muay Thai or boxing or seek out expert analysis on the topic, not all coaches and analysts are particularly interested in talking at length about the foundational principles of striking, preferring to discuss execution or advanced combination work.

An eight-fight pro, Lee suffered the first loss of his pro career

Fernandes Outpoints Ueda, Retains Bantamweight Title at One FC 15 ‘Rise of Heroes’
Bibiano Fernandes was successful in his first One FC title
defense. | Dean Marchand/Sherdog.com
Fernandes has an aura of invincibility surrounding him.
On Friday, Masakatsu
Ueda fought like a man who never truly believed he could break
One FC 135-pound champion’s seven-fight winning streak.
Fernandes successfully defended his bantamweight belt with a
five-round verdict over Ueda in the One
FC 15 headliner at the SM Mall of Asia in Manila, Philippines.
The Brazilian was on the front foot for the entire 25 minutes,
forcing Ueda to desperately defend rear-naked choke attempts in the
first, third and fifth rounds.
For much of the fight Fernandes was frustrated by an opponent who
kept his back to the cage and tried to continuously circle away
from the champion. However, ‘The Flash’ was occasionally able to
rock Ueda’s head back with crisp one-two combinations.
Early in the fourth round Ueda began to press forward, landing a
hard left kick from his southpaw stance. Although Fernandes’ left
eye began to swell severely, the Japanese fighter soon reverted to
Welcome to the UFC David Michaud
This is really a big question mark fight for Li Jingliang. We know that he could do really well on the Chinese regional circuit, but it's very difficult to see exactly how that might translate against more polished competition, especially outside of his home country. Li is enormously strong and has a very solid, clingy grappling and wrestling game. Like Michaud he's fairly inactive from the outside, but rather than brawling into the clinch he tends to just rush in looking for the body lock where he can use his superior strength to his advantage. If he's too predictable in that, Michaud could certainly catch him and make this a dog fight. I'd probably give Michaud the edge, because he does have some decent pop in his hands, but it'll really be about who can control the clinch.
