Video: ‘Cris Cyborg’ Swings on Angela Magana at UFC Athlete Retreat

It won't win any awards for direction, editing or cinematography, but the first video of the now-infamous confrontation between Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino and Angela Magana this past Sunday has surfaced. FanSided's Cage Pages published the video on Monday. The blurry, 14-second video clip shows the former Invicta Fighting Championships and Strikeforce women's featherweight champ in a verbal altercation with Magana during the UFC's Athlete Retreat in Las Vegas, then landing a right hand to Magana's face before the situation is broken up. The 31-year-old Justino was reportedly upset over Magana's recent jabs at her on social media, including a Twitter post in which a picture of Cyborg alongside child cancer patients in a hospital was put alongside a screenshot of villainous horror movie mascot Jigsaw from the “Saw” franchise. Check out the full video after the jump.

Rico Verhoeven Dominates Ismael Lazaar in Non-Title Glory 41 Main Event

GREAT fight so far between @RicoVerhoeven and Ismael Lazaar! #GLORY41 #UFCFIGHTPASS — UFC Fight Pass (@UFCFightPass) May 20, 2017 Glory heavyweight champion Rico Verhoeven did whatever he wanted against Ismael Lazaar in the non-title main event of the Glory 41 SuperFight Series card. Verhoeven used his towering frame and telephone poll-like reach to pick the Moroccan apart from the outside. He jabbed whenever he wanted and needed, and used a plethora of kicks to the head, body and legs to befuddle and frustrate the shorter, more portly opponent. Lazaar (30-3-1, 15 KOs) never stopped trying to get inside and make it a brawl, but “The King of Kickboxing” never allowed it to happen. Verhoeven (51-10, 14 KOs) never gunned for the knockout, however; rather; he played it safe and did whatever he pleased for five rounds, though Verhoeven was a bit shaken by an uppercut on the inside in the final minute. Lazaar couldn’t capitalize, though, as Verhoeven won a near-shutout unanimous decision. The official scores were 49-46, 50-55 (times four), all for the Dutch champion to satisfy the hometown crowd.

D’Angelo Marshall Wins Glory 41 Heavyweight Tournament

D'Angelo Marshall came into the Glory 41: Holland heavyweight contender tournament with not a ton of kickboxing experience under his belt but that didn’t matter. The Curacao native tore through Mohamed Abdallah (12-2, 5 KOs) in just 48 seconds to make it to the finals, where he used superb ring generalship and movement to win the whole thing. Marshall faced longtime Brazilian veteran Anderson “Braddock” Silva in the tourney’s final round and though Silva had much more experience, it didn’t make a difference. Marshall was brilliant for the three allotted rounds as he picked Silva apart from the outside, using timely counters and swift leads to his advantage. Silva plodded along, looking for the one-punch knockout but Marshall was too poised and determined to allow that. Silva (41-17-1, 26 KOs) slowed down considerably down the stretch, allowing Marshall (16-2, 9 KOs) to coast to a surprisingly easy win, where he won a unanimous decision. The judges favored the younger man vi tallies of 29-28 and 30-27 (four times) to take the tournament and hopefully land a shot at Glory heavyweight champ Rico Verhoeven down the road.

Showtime Boxing: Gary Russell Jr. Retains Featherweight Title; Leon Lawson Cheap Shots Jose Uzcategui

Andre Dirrell's uncle just swung on Jose Uzcategui after he was DQ'd for a late hit after the bell — Barstool Sports (@barstooltweetss) May 21, 2017 Gary Russell Jr. proved yet again why he is one of the most dangerous “little guys” in the world as he was sensational Saturday night. Russell scored a seventh-round stoppage of Oscar Escandon in the main event of a Showtime Championship Boxing card at MGM National Harbor Casino in Oxon Hill, Maryland, retaining his WBC featherweight crown in the process. Russell seized control of the action early and never relinquished it as he dominated the Colombian until the end. Russell Jr. dropped Escandon in the third and picked him apart with his superior movement and hand speed. Escandon tried in vain to turn the tides, but the American was too accurate and powerful for that happen. Russell Jr. cracked his challenger with a left-right to the head, which rocked Escandon badly. When Escandon stumbled back into the ropes, Russell Jr. closed in for the kill and swarmed him with punches until veteran referee Harvey Dock intervened.

7’s Pound-for-Pound Top 10

Parity just seems part and parcel of the heavyweight division. If you're constantly facing the sport's biggest men, throwing its biggest blows, it's hard to keep that crown from getting knocked off of your head, truly reign over your division and solidify yourself as a pound-for-pound talent. One year into his run as UFC heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic is doing a pretty fine job. At UFC 211 in Dallas, Texas, Miocic tied the record for consecutive UFC heavyweight title defenses with a whopping two, a reminder of how fleeting long-term supremacy is in this weight class. More importantly, however, Miocic avenged his only loss in the last four years, blasting former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos in just over two minutes. That's five straight wins for Miocic, all by knockout, in a two-year span. All five fighters he put away were either former UFC or K-1 World Grand Prix champs. With victories over Mark Hunt , Andrei Arlovski , Fabricio Werdum , Alistair Overeem and now, Junior dos Santos , Miocic is perhaps one of the 10 best heavyweights to ever step into the cage and he rises on our list, from seventh to fifth.

Brock Lesnar: 5 Defining Moments

Brock Lesnar if nothing else showed the Ultimate Fighting Championship what was possible. The hulking Webster, South Dakota, native parlayed his superstardom in World Wrestling Entertainment into an extended run as MMA’s biggest box-office draw, as he cut down legends, captured the UFC heavyweight championship, broke records on pay-per-view and made millions in prize money. Though Lesnar’s stay in mixed martial arts was brief -- he fought just nine times -- and was interrupted by a life-threatening bout with diverticulitis, no one can deny the impression he made. Now 39, he returned to a part-time gig with the WWE after his victory over Mark Hunt at UFC 200 was overturned and changed to a no-contest in light of a positive test for clomiphene. It appears as though Lesnar has fought his last fight inside the Octagon. In a career comprised almost entirely of defining moments, here are five that stand out: 1. A Slice of Humble Pie A former NCAA wrestling champion at the University of Minnesota, Lesnar made his professional MMA debut under the K-1 banner in June 2007 and struck Olympic silver medalist Min Soo Kim into submission in just 69 seconds at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Sherdog’s Official Mixed Martial Arts Rankings - Fly is Going Off the Wall

Bellator MMA starts pushing its women's flyweight division and says it is going to crown its inaugural champion soon. Not long after that, the Ultimate Fighting Championship officially opens its doors to women at 125 pounds and announces “The Ultimate Fighter 26” will crown the UFC's first women's flyweight champion. With all this buzzing about MMA's fly women, the timing of Invicta Fighting Championships 23 could not have been better. Invicta's return to the Scottish Rite Temple in Kansas City, Missouri, on May 20 was built on a trio of outstanding and important flyweight contender bouts. In the main event, 22-year-old Polish prospect Agnieszka Niedzwiedz pushed her record to a perfect 10-0 by taking a decision over tough Brazilian vet Vanessa Porto , while on the undercard, Roxanne Modafferi hacked into Sarah D'Alelio 's head with her elbow and Andrea Lee outstruck Liz Tracy . In wake of the event, Niedzwiedz, Modafferi and Lee are our No. 2, No. 4 and No. 8 flyweight women in the world, but which one is going to be next to challenge MMA's 125-pound queen and Invicta champ Jennifer Maia ? The card also saw our third-ranked atomweight woman, Herica Tiburcio , pick up a strong split decision over No.

Opinion: Down So Long It Looks Like Up

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. * * * No industry is exempt from cycling through boom and bust periods. It’s a staple of capitalist economies and, frankly, an inevitability given the interconnectedness of the digital world. Even the most tightly managed and vertically integrated companies are subject to consequences from outside forces beyond their control. Perpetual growth is an impossible illusion, and if anything, contraction is more of a guarantee than expansion. There’s no question that this has been a down year so far for the Ultimate Fighting Championship . The four pay-per-view cards of 2017 have all, to varying degrees, failed to make a blip on the wider sports radar outside of MMA diehards. The trend seems to be swinging upward, with UFC 211 being the most successful event so far; and there are some solid events lined up for the next few pay-per-views. A lot will be riding on their success. That’s not to say there haven’t been good fights or even good fight cards, but sports are more than just games; there is a vital business infrastructure that needs to be in smooth working condition in order for the games to happen in the first place.

Video: David Benavidez Takes ‘Porky’ Out in PBC on FS1 Main Event

JUST WOW! David Benavidez ends an awesome fight with @PorkyMedina via 8th RD TKO. #BenavidezMedina — PBC (@premierboxing) May 21, 2017 Unbeaten contender David Benavidez won the most important fight of his still-blossoming career Saturday night as he stopped rugged veteran Rogelio “Porky” Medina in the eighth. The battle anchored the latest edition of PBC on FS1 and his stoppage electrified the crowd inside Laredo Energy Arena in Laredo, Texas. Benavidez (18-0, 17 KOs) was relentless from the start and swarmed the former world title challenger with bombs to the head and body. “Porky” was dropped at the end of the sixth and then again in the seventh from a body shot. Benavidez unloaded another barrage in the eighth, sending Medina (37-8, 31 KOs) to the canvas for the final time, ending the drubbing at the 1:01 mark. The win allowed Benavidez to earn a crack at the WBC super middleweight title later this year if everything pans out. Featherweight contender Jorge Lara tore apart Mario Briones (28-6-2, 22 KOs) and stopped him in the third of the PBC on FS1 co-feature.

The UFC recently implemented a new female weight division into its ranks. Here’s Why Cyborg Attacked Angela Magana

The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s athlete retreat came to an end last night, but not without its drama. Former Invicta FC Featherweight champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino and UFC strawweight Angela Magana had a confrontation during the event. After being struck by Justino, the UFC called police and Angela Magana is now pressing charges. Following the incident, it has been reported that “Cyborg” confronted former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman. However, it is unclear that occurred between the two fighters. The former Invicta FC champion has been receiving targeted messages from Angela Magana over the weeks leading up to the summit. For example, Magana made the post below concerning “Cyborg” weeks ago. that last line just absolutely destroys any credibility you might have had, blob. it isn’t hating on them. it’s desiring that they either stop cheating or be banned. you see, some of us want to see fighters adhere to the rules. there are enough health risks fighters face without having to deal with the side effects of PEDs and the extra risk placed upon their opponents, in fights they juiced for. and btw, if you think she quit after getting caught, you are truly delusional. she was caught again and, though USADA pretended they bought her asinine excuse(taking a diuretic to treat dehydration makes zero sense), anyone with a brain knows that was nothing but a pack of lies, rather like a certain spanish cyclist who told some ridiculous story that he must have eaten tainted beef, even though his entire team ate the same meat and only he failed the drug tests.

Cris Cyborg releases a statement regarding the Angela Magana incident |

Core Values of Culture are learned through those in leadership roles in the communities we live, work, and regularly interact with. When I first started training at Chute Boxe in Curitiba I learned the true spirit of fighting watching legends like Wanderlia Silva, Shogun, and Cyborg train everyday in the gym. Everyone looked at these fighters as an example, we saw the hard work, heart, and dedication it took to become a World Champion and we learned not to expect anything less from ourselves. Training amongst these legends of the sport we learned how to win with pride, and if a loss happened to deal with it with integrity. Even though I am not training with Rudimar Fredrigo and the Chute Boxe team in Curitiba, I think I still represent the culture of the team and the values we place in honor, respect, and discipline which is why I have proudly flown the #CHUTEBOXE flag my entire career.
