Fabricio Werdum vs. Alexey Oleynik Targeted to Headline UFC’s Debut Event in Russia
A heavyweight clash pitting Fabricio
Werdum against Alexey
Oleynik has been targeted to headline the Ultimate Fighting
Championship’s first-ever card in Russia on Sept. 15.
Multiple outlets have confirmed that the bout is in the works.
MMAFighting.com was first to report the matchup on Monday. The
promotion has not formally announced the contest, but Oleynik
recently hinted in an Instagram post the he had signed a bout
agreement to compete at the event. The card takes place at Olympic
Stadium in Moscow.
Werdum last appeared at UFC Fight Night 127, where he had a
two-bout winning streak halted in a fourth-round knockout loss
Volkov in the evening’s main event on March 17. The 40-year-old
Brazilian owns wins over the likes of Cain
Velasquez , Travis
Browne , Mark Hunt ,
Rodrigo Nogueira and Roy Nelson
during his promotional tenure.
Oleynik, who is also 40 years old, is coming off a first-round
submission triumph over Junior
Albini at UFC 224. The Moscow native is 5-2 in the UFC and owns
a 56-11-1 career mark.
'Uncle Creepy' Ian McCall Announces Retirement | MMAWeekly.com
He debuted in the UFC in 2012 against Demetrious Johnson . Johnson was originally announced as the winner due to a scoring error. The fight should have gone to a fourth and deciding round, but the error wasn’t caught until after the event. With the fight ruled a majority draw, the two fought in a rematch three months later with Johnson winning by unanimous decision.
Sherdog’s Official Mixed Martial Arts Rankings - Middle Man
Gastelum has become a legitimate threat to the
Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight throne.
“The Ultimate Fighter 17” winner improved to 3-1 with one
no-contest since returning to 185 pounds, as he walked away with a
split decision over former Strikeforce
Souza in the UFC
224 co-headliner on May 12 in Rio de Janeiro. Gastelum, 26,
overcame an inauspicious start -- Souza mounted him twice and
threatened with an armbar inside the first five minutes -- to take
charge with superior standup skills, flooring the decorated
grappler in the second round before maintaining his gains in the
third. Having hurdled “Jacare,” Gastelum has put himself in
position to challenge for the UFC middleweight title later this
year. For now, the Arizonan moves to No. 4 in the latest Sherdog
divisional rankings at 185 pounds and awaits the winner of the
forthcoming rematch between undisputed champion Robert
Whittaker and 2000 Olympic silver medalist Yoel
Gastelum was not the only star to shine at UFC 224.
Mirko ‘Cro Cop’ Withdraws From Bellator 200, Carvalho vs. Mousasi Promoted to Headliner
200 has lost its headliner, as an undisclosed injury has forced
Filipovic to withdraw from Friday’s card.
Sherdog.com confirmed the withdrawal on Monday with a promotion
official following an initial report from
The Telegraph . “Cro Cop” was scheduled to face Roy Nelson in
a heavyweight fight in the Bellator 200 main event. The matchup was
also tabbed as an alternate bout for the California-based
organization’s heavyweight grand prix.
As a result of the cancellation, the middleweight championship
showdown between reigning titlist Rafael
Carvalho and Gegard
Mousasi has been elevated to the new headliner. Bellator 200
takes place at the SSE Arena in London and airs on the Paramount
Network via tape delay in the United States at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m.
Filipovic, 43, has won his last eight bouts. The Pride Fighting
Championships veteran last appeared at Rizin’s New Year’s Eve
event, where he stopped Tsuyoshi
Kosaka in just 62 seconds. Filipovic lost to Nelson via
third-round technical knockout in their first meeting at UFC 137 on
Holly Holm vs. Megan Anderson Bumps Overeem vs. Blaydes from UFC 225 PPV to Prelims
225 has undergone some shuffling at the top of the card.
The promotion announced Saturday night that a heavyweight bout
Overeem against Curtis
Blaydes has been moved from the pay-per-view lineup to the Fox
Sports 1-televised portion of the prelims. As a result, a women’s
featherweight showdown between Holly Holm
Anderson has been elevated from FS1 to the pay-per-view
The change didn’t seem to bother either Blaydes or Overeem.
“I’ve got no idea why the change was made, and [to be honest, I
don’t care],” Blaydes wrote on Instagram. “It literally changes
nothing, still getting paid and still have a job to do. Only perk
now is I get to clock out of work closer to 8 as opposed to like
Overeem, meanwhile, believes the revision could benefit his
“For the record I have no problem with the decision because now
people in Europe don’t have to stay up late, and the sooner the

UFC 225 takes place at the United Center in Chicago on June 9 and
is headlined by a middleweight championship clash between Robert
Whittaker and Yoel Romero .
Our third annual ranking of the biggest names in sports
To find the 100 most famous athletes in the world, we started with 600 of the biggest names in sports, drawn from 68 countries. ESPN's Sports Analytics Group then ranked them based on a proprietary formula that took into account three fame factors:
I had 3-2 but they still weren't as competitive. Imo DC was winning the second fight and people forget the first fight wasn't a blowout. Plus like I said DC is the current champ and is one of the best fighters of all time. He's earned it.
Daily Debate: Are Overeem, Blaydes better off on the UFC 225 prelims than main card?
Overeem and Blaydes might be better off on the prelims, though. Why? The June 9 show at United Center in Chicago has early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, then more prelims on FS1, including Overeem-Blaydes, before the pay-per-view main card. And being on free TV might mean more exposure.

Lee-Yamaguchi 2 was a closely contested affair, as the diminutive

fifth round . However, the judges sided with Lee, 21, her
undefeated record improving to 9-0. Yamaguchi dropped to 17-11.

UFC Fight Night 129 Post-Mortem: High Alert
UFC Fight Night 129 on Saturday was the
Ultimate Fighting Championship ’s inaugural event in Chile. The

successful in doing so, as he denied all 15 of the Brazilian

advantage to pick him apart from the outside. A straight right from

UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley Responds to Kamaru Usman’s Callout
Kamara Usman has a message for The Champ
— FOX Sports: UFC (@UFCONFOX)
May 20, 2018
On Saturday night at the Movistar Arena in Santiago, Chile, surging
Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight contender Kamaru
Usman took on veteran Demian Maia
in the main event.
“The Nigerian Nightmare” was able to utilize his wrestling and
takedown defense to nullify Maia’s ground game and earned him a
lopsided unanimous decision victory.
After the fight, Usman went on record by calling out the current
welterweight champion, Tyron
“Hey, champ: You know my social media hasn’t changed since I got in
the game five years ago,” Usman said (transcript courtesy of
MMA Junkie ).
“Welterweight, and I’m coming for that gold strap. And with that
performance, even with some handicaps, no one can deny that I’m
definitely top five right now in the division.”
Woodley, who was working as an analyst for this broadcast on FOX
Sports 1 quickly fired back:
“Kamaru Usman, congratulations,” Woodley said. “I don’t ever want
to take away the credit.
Jamie Moyle-Emily Whitmire Strawweight Tilt Added to UFC 226 Lineup
226 lineup continues to grow, as Jamie Moyle

Whitmire in strawweight bout on July 7 in Las Vegas.
The promotion has yet to formally announced the fight, but both
Moyle and Whitmire recently confirmed the pairing via Instagram.
UFC 226 takes place at the T-Mobile Arena and is headlined by a
heavyweight title tilt between Stipe

Matches to Make After UFC Fight Night 129
Kamara Usman has a message for The Champ
— FOX Sports: UFC (@UFCONFOX)
May 20, 2018
Usman followed the blueprint for beating Demian Maia ,
much like Tyron
Woodley and Colby
Covington before him.
“The Ultimate Fighter 21” winner shut off Maia’s takedowns, forced
the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt to engage him on the feet and
picked him apart with punches, as he moved one step closer to title
contention in the
Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight division with a
unanimous decision in the
UFC Fight Night 129 headliner on Saturday at the Movistar Arena
in Santiago, Chile. All three cageside judges struck scorecards in
Usman’s favor: 50-45, 49-46 and 49-46.
Maia misfired on all 15 of his takedown attempts, according to
preliminary FightMetric data. It continues a troubling trend for
the decorated grappler. During his current three-fight losing
streak, Maia has gone 0-for-49 on takedowns against Woodley,
Covington and Usman, depleting his gas tank and leaving him as
little more than a sitting duck. Usman capitalized, as he
outperformed the Brazilian in terms of significant strikes landed
(66-27) and total strikes landed (97-33).
By the Numbers: UFC Fight Night 129

May 20, 2018
Dominant wrestlers continue to be kryptonite for Demian
Usman is the latest addition to a list that also includes
reigning welterweight champion Tyron
Woodley and top contender Colby
Covington , as he stymied the Brazilian grappling ace for the
better part of five rounds to capture a unanimous verdict in the
UFC Fight Night 129 headliner in Santiago, Chile, on Saturday
With the win, Usman moves into a new class of contenders, while
Maia begins what is likely to be his final UFC contract on a down
note. Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC Fight Night 129, with
statistics courtesy of FightMetric.com.
8: Consecutive wins for Usman, the second-longest winning streak in
UFC welterweight history. Only longtime champion Georges St.
Pierre , with 12 straight victories, owns a longer winning
streak at 170 pounds.
6: Decision triumphs among those eight victories for Usman, whose
only two finishes occurred against Sergio
Moraes at UFC Fight Night 116 and against Hayder
Hassan at “The Ultimate Fighter 21” finale.

Multiple outlets recently confirmed the pairing following an
initial report from

Hooker enters the matchup on the momentum of a three-bout finishing
streak in the Octagon. “The Hangman” has stopped Jim Miller ,
Diakiese and Ross

Hooker is 16-7 as a professional overall, with all but one of his
triumphs coming via knockout, technical knockout or submission.
Burns, meanwhile, has been victorious in three of his last four
promotional appearances. Most recently, “Durinho” scored a
second-round knockout of Dan Moret at
UFC on Fox 29 on April 14. Burns is 6-2 in the UFC and 13-2 as a
pro. He has finished 12 of his 13 victories.
Kamaru Usman forced us to look up his Twitter. Now what will it take to get a title shot?
(It’s @Usman84kg , by the way. So obviously the next thing I had to do was Google 84 kilograms to find out that that’s 185 pounds, so then I spent a few minutes I’ll never get back wondering why a 170-pound contender was drawing attention to this discrepancy in the first place. Unless he’s referring not to his Twitter handle, but his bio, which reads: “UFC WELTERWEIGHT COMING FOR THAT GOLD STRAP!!” So the point of all this was … he saw himself as a future welterweight champion even back when he signed up for Twitter with the wrong weight class in his name? See, now you’ve wasted your time thinking about it too, so at least we’re in the same boat.)
