Jones has yet to sign agreement in announced Gustafsson rematch

And this isn't the first time that such plans have backfired for the UFC. Attempts to book Antonio Rogerio Nogueira against Phil Davis and Gilbert Melendez against Khabib Nurmagomedov both turned into somewhat public disasters as Melendez took the opportunity to renegotiate his contract, and Nogueira claimed to still be suffering from injury and was promptly removed from the UFC rankings. Both situations would be cleared down the line, but it was a couple of good examples that announcing the bout before the agreement hasn't always served the promotion well.

UFC champ Jones or Gustafsson next? Daniel Cormier gives his preference

“Against Jones, that’s a tough hill to climb, man,” he said. “There’s just no (easy way to) beating Jon Jones. I’d have to have my best performance. Knowing I was fighting for the title shot, I’d train as though I didn’t (just) have my best performance (against Henderson). I just think styles make fights, and I match up well with him.

Jamie Varner suffers ankle injury at UFC 173; cageside doctor steps on foot

UFC 173 results, photos: Tony Ferguson stops Katsunori Kikuno with one punch

“He’s a good sport and I enjoyed competing with him,” Ferguson said. “I really didn’t want to get mesmerized by that stance, and I think the low hands clearly played to my advantage. When he hit me, I wanted to get up and go right back at him. In my previous fights I was missing one key element: muay Thai. I’ve shored up that hole and now I’m a complete fighter out there.”

Please wake up people. NONE of the “mental illnesses” deemed as such by the APA are diagnosed by any biological tests. The USDA has an arrangement with the pharmaceutical industry. When they finally reduced the number of lobotomies they were conducting, (btw, I think lobotomies were one of the most extreme forms of torture they could think of), then they started doing electric shock therapy and then ultimately psychotropuc drugs. Drugs that were made in a chemistry lab to effect the neurology of human beings that you SUSPECT might have an illness based on the symptoms they complain of. Ever wonder why people are depressed in mass? Because the system is set up to not care that it works people to the point of stress and depression so that eventually everyone needs medication to stabilize them and prevent everyone from naturally losing it. Instead, a pharmaceutical company creates a drug designed to CHANGE your neurology — the one biological feature that controls all others. Think about it. If “they” don’t know how a person gets a mental illness and have no BIOLOGICAL testing to diagnose it then how the HELL are you going to give the people drugs to treat an illness that you allowed the APA to invent which? Seriously ~~ they make up the diagnoses and the pharma companies patent medication specifically for that symptom just as fast.

16 TUF Guys Shine at UFC 173 - Prelim Results

LAS VEGAS, May 24 – Three former winners of The Ultimate Fighter reality series stepped up to the plate in UFC 173 prelim bouts Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and all three emerged victorious, with Michael Chiesa, Tony Ferguson, and Chris Holdsworth leaving the Octagon with impressive wins. In the lead preliminary card bout, TUF 15 winner Michael Chiesa won his second straight, holding off the challenge of Brazilian veteran Francisco Trinaldo en route to a shutout decision win. The unanimous decision read 30-26 twice and 30-27. The Octagon could have been in Brazil for this one, that’s how much support “Massaranduba” got from the crowd, but there was little action in the opening 90 seconds until Chiesa looked for a takedown that came up short. Trinaldo tossed off another takedown attempt before Chiesa hit on the third, and “Maverick” went right to work, getting into the mount position and firing off strikes with both hands. Referee Herb Dean seemed perilously close to stopping the fight at one point, but Trinaldo was able to stay in the fight and make it out of the round.

Daniel Cormier: ‘I Think I’ve Earned a Title Shot’ at Jon Jones After UFC 173

Daniel Cormier looks hard to beat at 205 pounds. | File photo: Dave Mandel/ Daniel Cormier ’s light heavyweight title aspirations have been no secret since he announced his drop to 205 pounds, and the two-time Olympian only reinforced his position with a dominant win over Dan Henderson in the UFC 173 co-headliner. Now, Cormier has his sights set on UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones , and “DC” is willing to wait for a shot at the belt. “I think I’ve earned a title shot. I’ve got five top-10 wins, and I’m undefeated,” Cormier said at the UFC 173 post-fight press conference. “I haven’t lost a round. I haven’t lost a fight in two weight classes. I won the Strikeforce grand prix. My resume speaks for itself.” Should the title picture become murky following Jones’ upcoming rematch with Alexander Gustafsson , however, Cormier said he will gladly prove himself once again against any light heavyweight in the UFC. “I’m not saying I’m opposed to fighting. I’m just saying that after four years of what I’ve accomplished, I think I deserve a title shot,” said Cormier.

Matches to Make After UFC 173

T.J. Dillashaw sprang a huge upset at UFC 173. | Josh Hedges/Zuffa LLC/Getty Images So much for the status quo. T.J. Dillashaw sprang a stunning upset on Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, as the Team Alpha Male representative took out Renan Barao on a fifth-round technical knockout to become the Ultimate Fighting Championship bantamweight titleholder in the UFC 173 main event. Barao wilted 2:26 into round five, losing for the first time in more than nine years. Multi-punch bursts, well-disguised kicks, relentless movement and a seemingly endless gas tank carried Dillashaw to the most significant victory of his 12-fight career. He nearly finished it in the first round and held a commanding lead on the scorecards entering the fifth. Dillashaw never allowed the Nova Uniao ace to establish himself in the fight. According to preliminary FightMetric figures, he landed 101 more strikes than Barao -- a man to whom some had pointed as the sport’s pound-for-pound best. Now comes the difficult part, as Dillashaw becomes the hunted.

24 Sweet Fifteen - DC Subs Hendo - UFC 173 Main Card Results

LAS VEGAS, May 24 – Daniel Cormier said before his UFC 173 co-main event against Dan Henderson that he wanted to outwrestle his foe in this clash of former Olympic wrestlers. And he did just that at the MGM Grand Garden Arena Saturday night. But he also outfought “Hendo,” capping off a spectacular effort with a third round submission win that sent a statement to light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and the rest of the division. “This is my Octagon,” said Cormier. “I’m the man.” Clearly the crowd favorite, Henderson stalked Cormier with his right hand cocked and ready to fire, but as soon as he did, Cormier slammed him to the mat. Working from side control, Cormier had no intention of letting his opponent up, giving him a mini-slam to remind him. Henderson did his best to hold on and force a restart, but Cormier kept working, unwilling to yield his position. With less than a minute left, the fight returned to the feet, Cormier missing a big right of his own just before the bell. After coming up empty on two right hands to start the second, Henderson was taken down again, with Cormier staying busy with his strikes and submission attempts as he sought to improve position.

UFC 173 Video: Dumb-Ass Doctor Steps on Jamie Varner’s Broken Foot

Randy Couture: Star of the Cage and Screen - Vegas Seven

Randy Couture wound up in his first mixed martial arts match on a whim. “I saw the sport and said, ‘Oh my gosh, that looks like fun!’” He wasn’t sure, though, what was going to happen once he stepped into the ring. “It’s very surreal,” he says. “You walk up the four steps, and then you hear the cage door click behind you. Part of you wants to pee down your leg and climb that fence and get out, part of you wants to stand and fight.”

Trading Shots: Did Dillashaw beat the (P4P) man to become the (P4P) man?

That’s why I’m inclined to say that Dillashaw won this fight way more than Barao lost it. He had a game plan that was evident before the fight even started. Did you see him bouncing around like Dominick Cruz on diet pills during the pre-fight introductions? That was a man who had no intention of standing in front of Barao long enough to let him get his offense going. Once he started pasting the former champ with righthand bombs, he made him even more hesitant in his attacks. Midway through the fight, you could see Barao reacting to every flinch from Dillashaw. He had no idea what was coming next, but he seemed pretty sure that whatever it was would be bad for him in the end – and he was right.

UFC Fight Night: Munoz vs. Mousasi fight card

Have you penciled in May 31st as the day you ceased talking to friends and family? Good! Because it'll be non-stop UFC action from daytime to early Sunday morning/Saturday night depending on where you live in North America. The first card features middleweights Mark Munoz and Gegard Mousasi in the main event of UFC Fight Night in Berlin, Germany. Francis Carmont battles C.B. Dollaway in the co-main, as Dollaway tries to make his way into the top 10.

And how can MMA fans be blamed? The kernel of Dana White ‘s blowhard persuasions about fighting being “in our blood” is true. The highest level of MMA transcends “sport” as we’re used to it. There are no overweight outfielders scratching their balls between innings. There are no fines for wearing your socks the wrong height or for excessive celebration. MMA, at its best, is a phantasmagoric display of violence juxtaposed with art. It’s raw. It’s visceral. It’s a grotesque, screeching cacophony of carnage that unfolds into a single, unparalleled and strangely soothing melody. There is nothing on earth like (good) MMA. Nothing.

Joe Silva’s Shoes: What’s next for UFC 173’s winners?

After every event, fans wonder whom the winners will be matched up with next. And with another night of UFC action in the rearview mirror, it’s time to look forward, put on a pair of Joe Silva’s (and Sean Shelby’s) shoes, and play UFC matchmaker.

UFC 173 Aftermath: Team Alpha Male finally wins the big one

Hold: Jamie Varner. There's never been any real question about Varner's courage. He's always been a fighter willing to go out on his shield. But last night's performance, gutting his way through the first round on a broken leg, cemented valor as Varner's legacy, win, lose or draw. It also means it is highly unlikely Varner will be cut from the UFC roster, even with four losses in his last five fights, two of which were fights of the night. Still, one has to wonder of this fight might be the tipping point in Varner's career. He's been in a lot of wars, and he hasn't been on the right end of all of them. Either way, best wishes to the former WEC lightweight champion on his recovery.

What is TJ Dillashaw’s place in the Pantheon of MMA upsets?

Betting lines come in pairs, a negative number for the favorite and a positive one for the underdog. Saturday night's final betting line had Barao at -910 and Dillashaw at +710. This is the same thing as Barao being as a 9.1-to-1 favorite and Dillashaw a 7.1-to-1 underdog. So which number should we use, the nine or the seven?

Photo: This is how T.J. Dillashaw and Team Alpha Male celebrate a title win

After coming up just short in a string of UFC title shots, California’s Team Alpha Male finally broke through and claimed its first UFC belt after T.J. Dillashaw  (10-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) upset Renan Barao (32-2 MMA, 7-1 UFC) in Saturday’s UFC 173 pay-per-view headliner.

Video: What was UFC 173's (other) biggest surprise? Biggest disappointment?

OK, it’s pretty easy to choose the biggest surprise at Saturday’s UFC 173 event. But what about the next-biggest surprise, as well as the biggest disappointment?

Undefeated boxing star Floyd Mayweather and rapper T.I. got into a brawl at Fatburger in Las Vegas.

Dana White on Jamie Varner's corner: 'I would've thrown in the towel'

And Varner (21-10-1 MMA, 3-5 UFC), who’s now in a 1-4 skid in his second UFC stint, fought like a man who knew it, too. The former WEC champ, clearly in pain, continually got back upright, absorbed kicks to his injured limb, and then unloaded powerful shots while trying to land a miracle punch on Krause (21-5 MMA, 2-1 UFC).

Fighter Diet: How to break a fat loss plateau

Very seldom does fat loss occur exact the same way week in and week out. Some times you lose a lot, other weeks nothing. It's important to know and acknowledge this or you'll get disappointed and discouraged. Fat loss plateaus are natural and the less you have left to lose, the harder your body will resist you and the more you'll need to learn to dance tango with your body instead of beating it up for not delivering the results you need. Don't try to outsmart your body by being stubborn: stubborn doesn't help in the long run! Who do you think has been through evolution and have all the tricks up his sleeve on how to survive?... You guessed right, mr BODY!

Dana White proclaims Robbie Lawler as the frontrunner for the next welterweight title shot

White did praise Woodley, noting he has been aggressively finishing his fights of late, and compared his recent performances with those of Lawler. Woodley has past history with Hendricks, as Hendricks beat him for the Big-12 collegiate wrestling championship nine years ago, and has been wanting a shot at him since both became top MMA stars.
