Gegard Mousasi on Current UFC Contract Negotiations: ‘It’s Not Good’

Gegard Mousasi ’s previous UFC deal expired following his last Octagon appearance in April, and the middleweight contender remains in limbo with the Las Vegas-based promotion. “The Dreamcatcher” summarized the situation during an interview on UFC Tonight on Wednesday evening. Despite being on a UFC-produced show, Mousasi pulled no punches. “It’s not good,” Mousasi said of the current negotiations with the UFC. “We don’t like it.” The 31-year-old former Strikeforce champion has won seven of his last eight UFC appearances and owns notable triumphs over the likes of Chris Weidman , Uriah Hall , Vitor Belfort and Dan Henderson . Still, he looks around the organization and sees those with far less on their resumes cashing in with significant paydays. “I think I earned it. If you’re one of the best fighters you should get paid Sometimes it’s about nationality. Sage Northcutt I just heard is making ($75,000/$75,000) and the guy is a beginner,” Mousasi said. “Don’t tell me it’s a fair sport. It has to be something with rankings, if you’re one of the best you should get paid as one of the best.

Preview: UFC Fight Night ‘Gustafsson vs. Teixeira’ - Gustafsson vs. Teixeira

It seems that no card could get the blood pumping and the nerves jittering after UFC 211, which promised wall-to-wall action and for the most part delivered. Indeed, the Ultimate Fighting Championship ’s fifth trip to Stockholm feels like a bit of a letdown, with little name value and a lesser array of truly exciting bouts on Sunday at the Ericsson Globe. Still, there is enough here to make it worth the dedicated fight fan’s time. The main event is obviously the highlight, with Sweden’s own Alexander Gustafsson looking to get back into the title picture by beating another perennial contender in Glover Teixeira . Misha Cirkunov also looks to bounce himself into the title picture at 205 pounds in a fight with Volkan Oezdemir , who holds an unlikely -- some would say unjustifiable -- position in the light heavyweight top five after the unexpected departure of Anthony Johnson . Further down on the card, Nordine Taleb stands out as a fighter to watch, particularly after his war with welterweight dark horse Santiago Ponzinibbio in February; high-output boxer Jack Hermansson kicks off the main draw in a tilt with hard-hitting brawler Alex Nicholson ; and if top-notch striking is your thing, you do not want to miss the return of Darren Till , who fights on the prelims.

Sage Northcutt to Make Octagon Return at UFC 214 in Anaheim

Sage Northcutt will attempt to end a mini-slump when he returns to the Octagon at UFC 214 . The promotion announced on Wednesday evening that Northcutt will square off against Claudio Puelles in a lightweight bout at the July 29 event. UFC 214 takes place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., and is headlined by a light heavyweight championship rematch between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones . After winning his first eight pro MMA bouts — including two in the UFC — Northcutt has dropped two of his last three Octagon appearances. Most recently, the Katy, Texas, native suffered a second-round submission defeat against Mickey Gall at UFC on Fox 22. Puelles made his promotional debut at UFC Fight Night 98 on Nov. 5, when he fell to Martin Bravo via second-round technical knockout. The 21-year-old Peru native owns a 7-2 career mark, with six of those victories coming inside the distance.

Two Bouts Added to UFC Fight Night 112 Lineup in Oklahoma City

A pair of bouts have been added to the UFC Fight Night 112 card, including one pairing that fell through at UFC 211. Promotion officials recently announced that a featherweight duel between Jared Gordon and Michel Quinones that was originally scheduled for UFC 211 has been rebooked for UFC Fight Night 112. Additionally, a light heavyweight showdown between Azamat Murzakanov and Joachim Christensen has also been confirmed for the June 25 card. UFC Fight Night 112 takes place at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City and is headlined by a lightweight clash between Michael Chiesa and Kevin Lee . The even airs on Fox Sports 1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass. Gordon suffered from food poisoning prior to his UFC 211 encounter with Quinones, resulting in a last-minute cancellation of the bout. Gordon, who as discovered on the reality series “Dana White: Lookin’ for a Fight,” has won 12 of his first 13 professional appearances. Quinones enters the contest on a five-fight winning streak and is 8-1 as a pro overall.

Jordan Mein vs. Belal Muhammad headed to UFC 213 in Las Vegas

Muhammad started his career a perfect 9-0, including a Titan FC welterweight title. He signed with the UFC and had instant financial success with a “Fight of the Night” performance with Alan Jouban – though hd dropped a decision. He bounced back with a TKO of Augusto Montano in a fantastic comeback at UFC Fight Night 94 this past September for his first win in the promotion.

‘TUF 25’ Recap: Episode 6

Julian Lane will be fighting later in this episode and everything begins with him bragging to the cameras about how lethal his hands are and how sick his guillotine is. Coach Cody Garbrandt says that he’s known Lane for years, dating back to when they used to fight on the same amateur cards back in Ohio. He’s excited about it and is ready to help Lane on his path to redemption. Without wasting any time, Lane’s home video from New Jersey rolls. Footage of him in the gym precedes the scenes of him at his real home in Ohio with his daughters. He’s a loyal family guy and he’s heartbroken that he has to leave them to come onto the show. But it’s a dream he’s chasing and as long he believes he can do it, it’ll come true. It’s that simple. Ramsey Nijem from Season 13 is up next and his comical stripper antics in the house from the first time roll on. Highlights of Tony Ferguson blasting him into orbit in that season’s finale come next, as does footage of him tearing up the lightweight division before falling off again. The last time he was in the Octagon, he lost a controversial decision to Andrew Holbrook and he was so angry that he walked away from the sport.

Glover Teixeira: The Jon Jones that fought OSP would have lost to Daniel Cormier

Glover Teixeira and Alexander Gustafsson are two of the top contenders in the Ultimate Fighting Championship ’s 205-pound division. However, it is extremely difficult to tell what the next step will be for the winner of their UFC Stockholm main event, which takes place on Sunday at the Ericsson Globe. Jimi Manuwa has made inroads to establish himself as the No. 1 contender for the winner of the upcoming title clash between champion Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones . As a training partner of Gustafsson’s, the Brit has underlined that he has no interest in fighting him again. Similarly, ‘Posterboy’ has also highlighted that he will not agree to fight Teixeira after he claimed the Brazilian turned down an opportunity to fight him in Brooklyn earlier this year. Jones has been the key component in the current log jam at light heavyweight. It began when he was forced out of his UFC 187 showdown with Anthony Johnson due to his alleged connection to a hit-and-run accident in Albuquerque. The controversial former champion was fined and suspended for six months, but after returning to the win column against Ovince St.

UFC Signs Former Glory, K-1 Kickboxing Champ Gokhan Saki to Compete at Light Heavyweight

The UFC has signed multi-time kickboxing world champion Gokhan Saki to a contract to compete in the light heavyweight division. A date and opponent for Saki’s Octagon debut have not been determined, but he hopes to fight on the UFC Fight Night card in Rotterdam on Sept. 2, according to . “I’m glad I finally can announce that I have signed an exclusive long-term contract with the UFC,” Saki wrote on Facebook . “The best investment the UFC has made since Conor McGregor . Soon I will show everybody what Turkey and U.A.E. bring to the table.” Saki has one mixed martial arts bout on his record, a technical knockout loss to James Zikic at Cage Fighting Championships 1 “Cage Carnage” in Liverpool, England on July 11, 2004. However, the 33-year-old has compiled an 83-12 record with one no contest in the kickboxing realm, winning titles in Glory and K-1. “The Rebel” owns victories over the likes of Tyrone Spong , Melvin Manhoef , Daniel Ghita and Ray Sefo under kickboxing rules. Saki also confirmed in a lengthy statement why he left Glory and signed what he called a “retirement contract.

Miesha Tate explains why the UFC is the perfect model for equal opportunity for women | FOX Sports

“It kind of blows my mind to be honest,” Tate told the Fight Society podcast. “That’s one thing I will say about the UFC, they don’t do anything half-assed and if they’re going to do it, they do it. When they finally decided to get behind the women’s fighting, they did it with 100-percent commitment. People ask me what’s the difference between boxing and MMA, why is women’s MMA so much more successful? Because the promotion actually gave us equal opportunity to display our skill sets.

If the UFC have moved on, they got tired of waiting, whatever. But to my understanding, the fight was never gonna really happen in July anyway. I heard that from some sources right at the start. They said, ‘we’re hoping for July 8th but it’s probably not gonna be that.’

UFC signs kickboxing superstar Gokhan Saki

A kickboxing superstar whose exploits in the ring had fans dubbing him the “Turkish Tyson,” Gokhan “The Rebel” Saki will now square off with the best of the best in the Octagon, as it was announced Thursday that the UFC signed the Netherlands native to a promotional contract. There is no date or opponent scheduled for Saki’s UFC debut, but the 33-year-old light heavyweight has expressed an interest in competing on the Fight Night Rotterdam card on Sept. 2. A former Dutch, European and World Muay Thai champion, Saki turned pro in 2000 and took the kickboxing world by storm over the next 15 years as he battled it out with the likes of Badr Hari, Alexey Ignashov, Ray Sefo, Remy Bojansky, Tyrone Spong, Melvin Manhoef, Peter Aerts, Semmy Schilt, Rico Verhoeven and Alistair Overeem. And despite standing at just six feet tall, the Turkish fighter had the speed and power to compete with and beat the best heavyweights of his time, compiling a remarkable 83-12, 1 NC record that included 59 wins by knockout and several titles in promotions such as Glory and K-1.

A Scotsman in Limbo

Robert Whiteford thought matchmaker Sean Shelby’s handshake two months ago confirmed he had booked his Ultimate Fighting Championship return when the promotion touches down for a second time on June 16 at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland. When the UFC made its debut in the city in 2015, Whiteford was the star of the show. Those in attendance exploded when “The Hammer” made his way to the Octagon, a chorus belting out “The Flower of Scotland” in support. A first-round knockout of Paul Redmond set the gathering to a fever pitch, and afterward, Whiteford sat in front of the assembled media and forecast big things for his future in the UFC. Following decision losses to Darren Elkins and Lucas Martins , the Scot was unceremoniously cut from the organization, a day before his birthday. Even so, Whiteford was assured he would be given another shot if he could get back on track. In two subsequent appearances under the Absolute Championship Berkut banner, the 34-year-old judo black belt took a unanimous decision from Kevin Petshi and rendered Nam Phan unconscious with a front choke in less than 30 seconds.
