"I just basically told them what was up. I said that was the biggest fight they've had, I believe. Me versus Conor was the biggest numbers they've done or second biggest or something like that. I know, whether they want to say it or not, that I put bigger numbers than anybody, too, they just didn't have me on pay-per-view, I've been on FOX cards," Diaz said on the MMA Hour  Wednesday.

In the Shadow of The Monster

He was so full of stories by the end, he decided to write a book. Kevin could never sit still long enough to type, but Elizabeth Randleman could paint her husband’s words the way they deserved to be painted, so together they lounged for hours under the night sky in their backyard, Kevin telling his tales –€” tales of becoming UFC heavyweight champion, tales of becoming a Pride Fighting icon –€” Elizabeth copying notes shorthand into her blue binder, then carrying it inside to unload into something digestible. The yard was Kevin’s escape, more tropical than it had any right to be in the middle of the Nevada desert, and those nights became cathartic, the two of them reminiscing about the old days, the days of spectacle and pageantry, of backstage brawls and shadow warriors from distant lands reigning as kings.

6 Cody Garbrandt mocks Thomas Almeida for 'padding' his 21-0 record

"I look for him to come out, put his little Chute Boxe bull (expletive) and he only hurts people standing right in front of him. He's a good forward and back fighter, but I'm a different kind of boxer. I'm a boxer that has finesse, that cuts angles, he'll come forward and he won't even know where I'm at. I feel like once I tag him hard and he sees that I'm faster, he'll try to turn it into a brawl, which I'm fine with. I'm a better brawler than him, too," Garbrandt said.

Fabricio Werdum, Ben Rothwell Added to September UFC 203 Card in Cleveland

Another pivotal heavyweight clash has been added to Sept. 10’s UFC 203 bill in Cleveland. Headlined by new UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic ’s first defense against Alistair Overeem , the card will also feature Fabricio Werdum versus Ben Rothwell . The promotion revealed the pairing Sunday night during FS1's UFC Fight Night “Almeida vs. Garbrandt” broadcast. Werdum (20-6) lost the heavyweight title to Miocic on May 14 at UFC 198 via first-round knockout. The 38-year-old has never dropped back-to-back fights in a career that has spanned 14 years. Rothwell, 36-10, will also hope to bounce back from defeat as he was handedly outpointed by Junior dos Santos on April 10 at UFC Fight Night “Rothwell vs. Dos Santos.” The loss put an end to a four-fight winning streak that saw the Wisconsin native become the first man to submit Josh Barnett and a knockout of the aforementioned Overeem.

Joshua Burkman Believes Move to Lightweight Could Add 5-10 Years to MMA Career

Joshua Burkman made his lightweight debut against K.J. Noons at UFC Fight Night on Feb. 6, and while “The People’s Warrior” got the unanimous decision victory that evening, the overall experience was not a pleasant one for the 41-fight veteran. “Last fight I hadn’t weighed 155 pounds since eighth grade. That’s the first time I’ve weighed that in over 20 years,” Burkman said during an appearance on the Sherdog Radio Network’s “Beatdown” show . “I think that when I went to Vegas I was 180 pounds…When I got to Vegas my body just didn’t want to go under 175 pounds. I was doing everything I normally do at 170 pounds except for my body didn’t want to cut the weight. So the day before weigh-ins I was still 175 pounds. That night I had to go and start cutting weight, and I was 173 after not eating pretty much all day. It was 18 pounds in about 12 hours is what it was.” Somehow, Burkman tipped the scales at 156 pounds and outworked Noons over the course of three rounds the following evening, ending an eight-year drought between Octagon triumphs.

Uda circles off the fence and lands another knee to the face but Collier answers with a clean spinning back fist. We pause to retrieve Collier's mouthpiece with Uda marching into the clinch on the restart. Collier circles off and goes for a trip that Uda initially stops with a whizzer, but eventually succumbs to. Uda goes to deep half guard but doesn't have the position to sweep. Uda gets full guard and Collier buries his head in the chest, then lands a left. Uda angles for an armbar but it's not there. Good wrist control from Uda, who kicks the chest to clear space, then rolls out backwards. Collier over-commits when pursuing him, and Uda can't keep back control but finishes the round on top. 10-9 Uda.

Both fighters stormed to the center of the cage in the final round, hoping to either finish the fight or secure the round for the decision win. Sterling made his way back to his feet, but was taken down with another single leg. Caraway defended a sleep by illegally locking his fingers in the cage-fencing, but only received a warning. Miesha Tate's cautionary warning to Conor McGregor | BJPenn.com UFC Fight News & Videos

“The UFC has gone above and beyond to accommodate him and you’ve got to think about this too: how did Conor McGregor become Conor McGregor? If there was no UFC you wouldn’t know who he was. It’s been a mutual effort on both their parts. The UFC has spent a tremendous amount of money promoting Conor McGregor and he’s made a lot of money — for himself and for them — but it’s teamwork. They’re both working hard to create something great and it has been great but don’t change now Conor. Stay the course. This is what you’ve been doing this is what got you here. Don’t get big headed and now think that you’re above it because I think that’s the downfall.”

Former Employee Zach Light Files Lawsuit Against Bellator MMA

Zach Light has filed a wrongful termination lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court against former employer Bellator MMA and parent company Viacom. According to documents obtained by Bloody Elbow’s Paul Gift , Light is protesting “certain illegal practices jeopardizing the health and safety of professional fighters and mixed martial artists all for the defendants’ profit and financial gain.” Light, who previously fought for the UFC and Strikeforce in his MMA career, was hired as Bellator’s Talent Development Director under former promotion head Bjorn Rebney. In the complaint Light alleges that Bellator’s business practices changed when Scott Coker become CEO in June 2014. Light makes several damning accusations toward the California-based promotion in the complaint. Light alleges that heavyweight fighter Ryan Martinez ’s medicals were forged prior to Bellator 126 in Phoenix on Sept. 26, 2014 and that fighters on the Bellator 131 card in San Diego submitted medicals performed by someone who was not a licensed physician.

Pudzianowski: Fighting the Shadow of the World’s Strongest Man

A long stroll on a surprisingly sunny Friday afternoon in London ended with Mariusz retiring to his hotel to relax ahead of the weigh-ins. He didn’t leave his room again until his team called him to come downstairs to be taken to the Wembley Arena. He waited for the elevator, dressed in grey tracksuit bottoms and a cream-colored t-shirt with the KSW 32 logo embedded in a Union Jack. It was an excruciatingly long wait, as the hotel only had two elevators side by side for all passersby — the stuff of nightmare for claustrophobic residents. On one occasion, Mariusz was crammed into the elevator with nine other occupants. His characteristic frown was even more prominent than usual.

Postal Connections: Diaz vs. McGregor, Bellator Lawsuit & Cleveland’s Champ

It’s been another banner week for mixed martial arts news and we have the questions to prove it. Be it Nate Diaz doing his thing or Conor McGregor and the persistent Floyd Mayweather Jr. nonsense that keeps swirling around the MMA world, there is plenty to talk about in this week’s edition of Postal Connections. So, without further ado, away we go. Did you hear Nate Diaz on the MMA Hour yesterday? He sounds like he is part delusional and part Rain Man when it comes to how the promotional business is run. Me and my friends all love the Diaz brothers and I hope he gets paid but I don’t think he is going to get what he wants. What do you think? – Aaron Haha, nice description of Nate. Honestly, the Diaz boys have always had what is, sadly enough, a unique view of what they, as fighters, are worth and the comments Nate has made in the aftermath of his upset over McGregor and the purported rematch mirror those of Nick at various times in his career. They understand that they are the people the audience is showing up to see and that there is a number that makes the hardship that goes into training and competing for a fight all worthwhile.

Bellator 156 Gets Honeycutt-Parlo Main Card Bout, Two New Prelims

California-based MMA promotion Bellator announced Thursday that three more fights have been tacked onto the Bellator 156 card, which goes down on June 17 at Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif. Chris Honeycutt will move up to middleweight to take on Mikkel Parlo on the main card. Honeycutt, who last fought at Bellator 153, is coming off an impressive victory over Matt Secor in which “The Cutt” won a dominant unanimous decision. A lifetime welterweight, Honeycutt will likely have his hands full against Parlo, who is riding a two-fight winning streak; the Dane has won four of five overall. On the preliminary portion of the card is a showdown between Ben Reiter and A.J. Matthews , also at middleweight. Finally, Thiago Jambo Goncalves will take on Ricky Rainey in a welterweight encounter to round out the prelims. Bellator 156 will be anchored by the bantamweight championship between titlist Marcos Galvao and Eduardo Dantas . Chidi Njokuani will lock horns with Douglas Lima in the co-feature while Brandon Halsey will oppose John Salter in a 185-pound scrum.

Opinion: A Perfect Man to Mosh for Trump

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Sherdog.com, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. On Wednesday evening, I awoke from a nap to find my Twitter mentions filled with screenshots from CNN's coverage of a Donald Trump campaign rally in Anaheim, California. While I was caught off guard initially, it wasn't long before my sleepy eyes recalibrated and focused on the enormous upper body bust of Tito Ortiz : his chest, shoulders and head making him appear twice the size of every other human in the hard camera-facing gallery. @jordanbreen @TheSavageTruth @TJDeSantis it appears Tito Ortiz is a Trump supporter... pic.twitter.com/1XrXEYQ8xB — Cody Harms (@cgharms) May 25, 2016 Mixed martial arts fans love to make fun of Ortiz and frankly, with good reason. Ortiz's outlandish excuse making, hilarious malapropisms and generally over-the-top persona have made him an easy target of mockery over the last decade or so. Having him front and center supporting the most polarizing, bombastic demagogue in recent memory is too delicious and too expected to resist.

Jeremy Stephens has all respect for Renan Barao at UFC Fight Night 88, but plans to put him down

“I think he’s a great fighter,” Stephens told MMAjunkie today in Las Vegas. “I think he’s exciting. He’s somebody I want to fight – he actually fights. I’m not into that karate point-fighting bull(expletive), so I think we’re going to put on a great show. I think highly of him, so I prepared for that, and I prepared for a hungry Renan Barao.”
