UFC Fight Night 41 staff picks: Splits with Munoz-Mousasi, Carmont-Dollaway

Although the night’s first two main-card bouts resulted in consensus choices, UFC Fight Night 41′s co-headliners resulted in splits in the MMAjunkie staff picks.

Buffy has slayer strength, heals quickly, and sometimes has premonitory dreams. That’s all very impressive, especially compared to the other choices here, but the clincher is that she dies all the time and was ultimately totes whatevs about it. The first time, she drowns and is resuscitated via CPR. She gets up and is like, “I feel strong. I feel different…let’s go.” No panicking or neurotic introspection about how close she came to just being dead for good. Only ass-kicking. I think I’d probably want to take a freak-out-preemption nap, at least. And then it culminated in Buffy throwing a super old, powerful vampire through a skylight onto a broken piece of wood below, staking him. That is some serious precision.

ONE FC 16 results: Ben Askren submits Bakhtiyar Abbasov in promotional debut

In the bout, which streamed in North America as an online pay-per-view, Abbasov surprised Askren when he shot for a takedown in the first 10 seconds of the contest. While that’s an impressive feat in itself, the move ultimately led to his demise. Askren, an Olympian and former Bellator MMA welterweight champion, quickly reversed position and began to tee off with a ground-and-pound attack.

With UFC's Fight Pass, Ultimate Fight Nights and cards held outside the United States are being booked onto the streaming service. The limited visibility from a streamed card can make a big difference to a fighter's bank account, because sponsors prefer cable TV or PPV cards to spend those ultra lean dollars on.

This Invention Will Change The World, Just Watch

9 Out Of 10 U.S. Schools Don’t Teach This. Here’s An Inspiring Message From Those Who Learnt It And Changed The World

An open letter to all my male friends

Then there was that time the guy on the train tried to fondle me. I’m not sure I ever told you about that. When I told a group of female friends about this on Facebook (in all caps; I was very angry), I found I wasn’t the only person with such experience. One girl I know in London told me that she had had a very similar thing happen to her. While she was jogging, a boy on a bike slapped her on the bum. “I still feel rage and I feel rage for you,” she said. Another girl I know, in Poland, had literally also just walked home from the gym and been approached by a drunken man who tried to attack her. He verbally abused her as she walked away. “The saddest part is that I saw it coming,” she added. “I had this reflex as soon as he made eye contact with me, steeling myself for the inevitable, calculating what was the worst that could happen, and how to make that not happen.”

Top Five Myths Of Genetically Modified Seeds, Busted

Canola pollen can move for miles, carried by insects or the wind. Schmeiser testified that this must have been the cause, or GMO canola might have blown into his field from a passing truck. Monsanto said that this was implausible, because their tests showed that about 95 percent of Schmeiser's canola contained Monsanto's Roundup resistance gene, and it's impossible to get such high levels through stray pollen or scattered seeds. However, there's lots of confusion about these tests. Other samples, tested by other people, showed lower concentrations of Roundup resistance — but still over 50 percent of the crop.

were during my long runs. I can honestly say that I am far more sore after your Butt Bible workouts than running my hardest for 26.2 miles! I ran my personal best time by 7 minutes (3:36), just shy of boston qualifying time by 25 seconds. That was my tenth marathon, but never, ever, ever have I ran one without feeling massive amounts of pain. I used to be scared to incorporate leg days into my running schedule because I always wanted to have fresh feeling legs. Not anymore! I've been setting pr's of squats/deadlifts/lunges/you name it and running the fastest I ever have in my life! Your ebooks have strengthened and balanced out my muscles in an unbelievable way. I have been injury free ever since I became addicted to your ebooks. I owe my PR to you. I know you are not a runner, but I wouldn't want to thank anyone besides you. I attached a picture running happier and in less pain at mile 20 something, than during your badass butt bible workouts. Thank you so so so so much!

Congressman bankrolled by ISPs tries to halt Internet regulation

Latta appears to think that the FCC has decided to reclassify broadband as a common carrier service. “In light of the FCC initiating yet another attempt to regulate the Internet, upending long-standing precedent and imposing monopoly-era telephone rules and obligations on the 21st Century broadband marketplace, Congress must take action to put an end to this misguided regulatory proposal,” Latta said in his announcement. "The Internet has remained open and continues to be a powerful engine fueling private enterprise, economic growth and innovation absent government interference and obstruction. My legislation will provide all participants in the Internet ecosystem the certainty they need to continue investing in broadband networks and services that have been fundamental for job creation, productivity, and consumer choice."

GOP House backs state medical marijuana laws

Donald Sterling Diagnosed with Alzheimer's

Nice move on behalf of his PR people - he looses the team either way but they're assuming that when people hear of his condition, they'd forget and embrace him. No dice. If he has Alzheimer's he's in his VERY early stages and is still more cognizant than not. Alzheimer's has a veeeeery slow onset and if he actually does have Alzheimer's and isn't just pulling the "I'm sick" card to garner sympathy (really, would you be surprised?) it does NOT excuse his behavior. Alzheimer's doesn't produce such drastic personality changes that you one day wake up a raging racist. IF he really does have Alzheimer's - all the best moving forward, it's a hard condition to live with. Still not going to excuse what you said/did. If not, well you really are the lowest of the low.

Proposed Chael Sonnen vs. Vitor Belfort would be at middleweight; Wanderlei Silva not released by UFC

UFC president Dana White confirmed to on Friday that the proposed fight would be contested at 185 pounds, not 205, which is what Sonnen originally stated on Wednesday's episode of "UFC Tonight." Sonnen also said that a win over Belfort would make him the No. 1 contender in the middleweight division, however, when White was asked whether that title was on the line for both men, White wrote back via test message, "for Vitor it is."

Morning Report: Alexander Gustafsson guarantees to finish Jon Jones

Story Thus Far: Lots of context needed here. Yes, Maldonado fights at light heavyweight. Yes, even if he didn't this fight would be a mismatch. Most of you are aware that Miocic was originally supposed to fight the former champ Junior dos Santos here, but a broken hand less than a month before the bout was set to take place required a quick fill in. And with the bout taking place in Brazil and the difficulties that can come from obtaining a visa, it narrowed the options down to a Brazilian. I'm not the happiest about it either, but Maldonado stepped up on the short notice at a weight class above him and at least we have a fight. Deal with it.

SWAT Team Raids Organic Farm, Confiscates Blueberries | We Are Change

All you finger pointers talking out your butts only show your total ignorance when you let your butt say things like “It’s republicans fault”, or “the right wingers and FOX News”, or the absolute most idiotic one…” the Hunt brothers funded this or that”, oh and ” it’s the tea party’s fault because blah blah blah”. You show your complete lack of intelligence and show your obvious hand that the media plays right into for you with the conniving gov’t giving the media all the bait to churn into spit. When will you morons wake the *&%$ up and focus on the problem instead of who you THINK is to blame. Who gives a rats butt who is to blame, what are you going to do about it? I say not a darn thing cause you are too limp in the noodle to even comprehend the situation at hand. Wake up and look at the gov’t becoming a complete totalitarian iron fisted control freak that is inundated with control freaks who are narcissistic maniacal power whores from both the republican and democrat parties. Both parties run the scam that nets the same results no matter what method is employed to do it.

ONE FC 16 results: Ben Askren remains undefeated following submission win at 'Honor & Glory'

30 May 2014 - Singapore: ONE Fighting Championship (ONE FC), Asia's largest Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) organization with a 90% market share, impressed the sold-out crowd in attendance at the iconic Singapore Indoor Stadium with another night of world-class mixed martial arts action. In the main event of the evening, Ben Askren proved once again why he is considered the best welterweight in the world by submitting Bakhtiyar Abbasov and extending his undefeated professional mixed martial arts record to thirteen wins.

‘An evening with Al Pacino’ coming to Boston - The Boston Globe

Is Wanderlei Silva In or Out of UFC 175... Is He Even Still a UFC Fighter? |

UFC officials told Fox Sports that White’s comments were misinterpreted and that when he said, “Wand is done,” White was only referring to the UFC 175 fight card on July 5. The promotion will wait for Silva to hash the situation out with the Nevada commission and then determine what his future does or does not hold in regard to the UFC.

Gegard Mousasi: “I Think Within Two or Three Rounds I Will Be Able To Do the Job” |

“I think eventually the fight will end up on the ground. But I’m going to make it stand up as much as possible,” added Mousasi. “I imagine it going three rounds and then me winning. I don’t know how, but I think it will go three rounds. I think within two or three rounds I will be able to do the job. I’m going to go for the finish. I’m going to try at least.”

Fox News ‘Expert’ Fired After Blaming Santa Barbara Shootings On ‘Homosexual Impulses’

Author: Alan J. McStravick Multifaceted writer seeks readers for comment and feedback. While he won't turn down a long walk on a beach, he much prefers a more active pursuit. Has acted, worked on cruise ships, written for a major U.S. airline's frequent flyer program and a Scripps-Howard publication as well as science and technology websites. Loves movies but is known for paraphrasing even the most memorable quotes. Considers himself quite the foodie but only if it is paired with the right wine. Seeks to be a walking contradiction. Often pursues the role of devil's advocate. Feels like he should tell people blue is his favorite color even though he knows that it is red. Take a few minutes to share how his writing makes you feel.

Roy Nelson vs. Mark Hunt targeted for UFC Fight Night 51 in Japan

He now meets Hunt, who had resurrected his career and moved into title contention following a recent four-fight UFC winning streak that included three knockouts, one of which came over Stefan Struve. However, the 40-year-old PRIDE vet then suffered a knockout loss to former champ Junior Dos Santos, and in his most recent bout, he fought to a majority draw against Antonio Silva (in a “Fight of the Night” performance) in December.

Alexander Yakovlev sees defeating Demian Maia as perfect entry to UFC

Yakovlev’s invitation came, and he was slated to fight Cabral. Soon after, Mike Pierce suffered an injury in training, and Yakovlev (21-4-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) was pulled from his original matchup in order to serve as a replacement opponent against Maia (18-6 MMA, 12-6 UFC). The two now meet on the FOX Sports 1-broadcast main card of Saturday’s TUF Brazil 3 Finale event at Sao Paulo’s Ibirapuera Gymnasium.

Donaire vs Vetyeka fight preview: The fall of Nonito Donaire?

After these two fights, the script on Nonito Donaire has completely flipped. Once praised for his willingness to fight, his speed, his power, his morals, Donaire is now, in some circles, almost forgotten. He's seen as a fighter who fell in love with his power and abandoned his technique, who has lost so much of his speed that he's no longer effective, who is just not that great anymore. Most of all, he's seen as a fighter whose heart may just not be in it anymore. And for many fans, that's the most damning part. Because fighters struggle - we all know this, and we appreciate it. But when a fighter starts to give up on the sport, the fans start to give up on the fighter.

TUF Brazil 3 Finale: Maia vs. Yakovlev, Jason vs. Peralta preview and prognostications

Those are strong names, but despite decision losses in each, it's been the way he's lost that seems so disconcerting. Against Rory, he opened up a strong first round only to follow it up with blown tire, gassing out halfway through the fight. As for Shields, while it's difficult for anyone to look good, the bout should have favored Maia, who is the more accomplished grappler, and the better striker. As we saw, none of that made a difference.

ONE FC 16 Results: Ben Askren Scores Dominant Win in Promotional Debut |

He controlled Abbasov with ease and softened him up with non-stop ground and pound before sinking in an arm triangle choke that forced the Azerbaijani to tap. The win was Askren’s first since signing with Asia’s biggest MMA promotion. Next up is likely to be a shot at reigning welterweight champion Nobutatsu Suzuki.

Welcome to the UFC Berish & Letourneau

Against much of the light heavyweight and middleweight divisions, Berish would probably have a pretty decent shot at a win in his first UFC fight. He's not super weak in any area, has good submission offense and good wrestling and a bit of pop in his strikes due to his compact frame. But, he's not a kickboxing dynamo, and I seriously doubt he resists the urge to take Drysdale to the mat. From there, I really don't see him being able to stay competitive. His best hope might be if Drysdale has too limited a gas tank and Berish's sub defense is strong. If that's the case, he might survive a rough first round and be able to win a bad kickboxing bout. Still, my money would probably be on Drysdale by submission.
