http://www.cagepotato.com/why-more-fighters-need-to-talk-sht-hint-it-works/

There’s a sport with no flash, no glitz, and none of the other maligned “entertainment” trappings of the UFC and the WWE. It’s called amateur wrestling, and nobody watches it. MMA turning into amateur wrestling hurts the fighters. If there’s no viewers, there’s no money. It’s crazy that people still need to be reminded of this, but selling the fight is equally as important as fighting the fight. To quote The Simpsons, “Every good scientist is half B.F. Skinner and half P.T. Barnum.”

FD Woman's Black Book (Athlete)

Good Morning Pauline Nordin, I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for Fighter Diet ...A few months back on Facebook you had posted a detailed suggestion about having a panel of blood work done. I took your advice and got it done. For years I have been having issues with being tired, problematic weight gain/loss, and low motivation overall when at the gym. My doctor has discovered a major thyroid failure and that my hypothalamus is near non functioning. Years of suffering would have continued if you hadn't made that suggestion. I hope you know that you have played a big role in turning my health around. I am now scheduled for a CT scan of my brain and have started taking medication to begin the road of balancing my hormones out. THANKS! X The Extreme Fitness Woman’s Black Book: W

Mayweather vs Maidana: Riots break out at MGM after Mayweather vs Maidana fight

The crush of fans reportedly flooded into the media center, which was overrun with people, and at one point the doors were locked as order was restored. Eric Poleski, battalion chief for the Clark County Fire Department, has said in published reports that 24 people were taken to Las Vegas-area hospitals. . . . What prompted the sudden rush is not known; some speculation on the scene was that a loud noise similar to that of a gun being discharged might have prompted the crush of spectators running from the arena exit toward the hotel’s Garden Walk of shops and restaurants. Poleski later confirmed in published reports that the noise came from a temporary wall that fell to the floor.

By The Numbers: Spring Slammers

Without a doubt, one of the most famous and ardent Octagon enthusiasts is “The People’s Champion” - Dwayne Johnson. When not entertaining in the WWE ring or on the silver screen, “The Rock” is often seen Octagonside at UFC events and, recently, tweeted a picture of himself and UFC president Dana White watching UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. Henderson 2 together. In honor of the “Brahma Bull’s” birthday, here is a list of the seven fighters who deliver spine-rattling slams that would put a smile on The Rock’s face. DENNIS BERMUDEZ Those are more than glamour muscles. Currently, the #11-ranked featherweight, who is enjoying a phenomenal six-fight win streak inside the Octagon, has been putting that bodybuilder’s physique to good use with hard striking and high-impact slams. The myth that muscled fighters do not have a big gas tank has either been disproven by Dennis Bermudez or  “The Menace” is the exception to the rule, as he proved in his last performance against Jimy Hettes by pouring on 125 significant strike attempts and shooting for 15 takedown attempts in less than a full 15 minutes.

UFC Veteran Pat Barry Suffers First-Round Knockout Loss to Zack Mwekassa at Glory 16

Zack Mwekassa blew away UFC vet Pat Barry in the first round at Glory 16. | Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com Zack Mwekassa spoiled Pat Barry ’s Glory World Series debut, knocking out the UFC veteran with a left uppercut 2:33 into the opening frame of their heavyweight encounter at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colo., on Saturday night. Throughout his Octagon tenure, Barry was accustomed to being the shorter, lighter fighter. That was not the case at Glory 16, but despite the size disadvantage, the smaller Mwekassa packed a powerful punch. The Congo native displayed superior hands throughout the fight, first dropping “HD” to a knee after a series of blows early in the round. Then, just moments after receiving a standing eight-count from referee Tom Johnson, Barry night’s came to an abrupt end, as Mwekassa connected with a brutal uppercut that momentarily lifted the Louisianan off the floor before sending him crashing to the canvas. Barry started quickly, landing a right high kick before swarming on the pro boxer. That moment was fleeting, however, as it didn’t take long for Mwekassa to establish his superior hands.

Josh Thomson targets Nick Diaz for UFC on FOX 12 – in a pretty Diazian way

“No one wants to end on the downhill like a Muhammed Ali, or you’re in that state where it’s time to just give it up,” Thomson said earlier this year. “I can’t say I’m trying to walk away while I’m still good, but just knowing guys like Gilbert, who I feel like I beat in my third fight, and guys like Benson, who beat Gil in a very close split decision – I feel like I won more than Gilbert lost to Benson. I should be right there. I am right there. I’m getting heated up right now just talking about it.”

Trading Shots: Downes and Fowlkes on the mysteries of Jon Jones

Doesn’t that strike you as a little strange? Few argue that he’s not the best MMA fighter in the world today. Yet, in the same breath in which people claim Jones could be the greatest mixed martial artist ever, they ask him to show more humility. Why? If arrogance is the exaggerated sense of one’s own abilities, isn’t Jones just about right? Maybe it’s not just the arrogance. Maybe he just isn’t friendly enough. We want a President who we can have a beer with, and a kindler, gentler light heavyweight champion. Should the Jones camp hire Karl Rove for a nice PR blitz?

Welcome to the UFC Aaron Phillips

As is so often the case, an injury, as undesirable an outcome as that may be for a fighter, does have one very real, positive upside. It gives the UFC an opportunity to sign a new fighter that they might otherwise have overlooked, had necessity not dictated the moment. So it may be for Aaron Phillips as he gets the call-up to take on Sam Sicilia at UFC 173 on only three weeks notice. The UFC has made the bout official as an update to their official UFC 173 card .

"Good for Andrei," Barnett said. "I'm sure sitting on the outside looking in as a former champion has been tough for him, and having to bounce from one fight to the next can be very difficult. Not knowing when your next fight is going to come is a really difficult way to try to stay ready. So having the opportunity to claim, ‘hey, I knocked out Roy Nelson last time we fought, and now he's considered one of the more notable names in the heavyweight division.' He has a claim on deserving to be there."

UFC fight bookings roundup: 4/29-5/4

New $375 million arena being built in Las Vegas, UFC likely to run first event there

Zuffa's home base has always been Las Vegas, and there are usually a bunch of UFC shows in the city each year. In fact, most of their biggest PPV shows end up going down in Sin City. But the two major current arenas in the city that the UFC uses, located at MGM Grand and Mandalay Bay, have been around for a while and aren't exactly state-of-the-art. Because the city has no major sports franchises, the need for a new arena hasn't been high on anyone's to-do list.

Bellator 120’s Michael Chandler on the keys to beating champ Eddie Alvarez

“To a certain extent you have to look back because history is the best indication of the future sometimes,” Chandler recently told MMAjunkie Radio. “A lot of constants are going to be the same with him when I step in the cage. It’s going to be fast paced – at least one guy trying to take the other guy’s head off. We both have great cardio, great skills. It’s just a matter of who is going to win the positions. Pat Barry gets knocked out; Trevor Wittman’s smile gets interpretable

BROOMFIELD, Colo. – This time, for reasons that were never fully explained, Floyd Mayweather wasn’t ringside at Glory 16 on Saturday night. ("Appointments," somebody muttered, "he’s got other appointments."). Instead there was Chris Camozzi , who was cornering his brother Brian in the prelims, and Brandon Thatch , perhaps the greatest hypothetical someday champion in MMA right now. There was also Trevor Wittman, the coach who’s always smiling. Wittman accompanied Pat Barry to the ring. Barry was making his return to kickboxing after a compact six-year career in MMA -- nothing but a detour, really -- which included a dozen fights in the UFC’s heavyweight division. All week long the Louisiana native told people that kickboxing was his true first passion, and at 34 years old he was fortunate to have been reunited with it. Not that his MMA career had been a masquerade, you know, but he learned to wrestle in his late-20s out of something like necessity. The Glory ring, viable and spotlit by Spike, had become his savior; it ridded him of that necessary evil, and for that he was reborn.

Lost Arts: The European Longsword Part I

Those modern recreators and martial arts do give us a pretty good idea however, and are doing important and wonderful work bringing awareness back to these arts. To close with we will take a look at a sparring match from a Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) event. Rules have been put into place and equipment has been modified for safety, and a point system is in place to determine a winner. The trainers of the Medieval periods understood the importance of sparring and would have strove to create as safe a way to do it as possible, so while not perfectly historical, this exercise is not ahistorical either.

Story fights for the 16th time under the UFC banner.
