‘TUF 26’ to Crown Inaugural UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion

“The Ultimate Fighter 26” will introduce the women’s flyweight division and crown a champion at the conclusion of its season. The Las Vegas-based promotion announced the news in a release on Wednesday. The UFC will hold a casting call on May 23 in Las Vegas open to female flyweights between ages of 21 to 34 with a winning professional record. “TUF 26” will also be open to women currently on the roster who are capable of making 125 pounds over the course of the season. A previously announced tryout for “TUF 26” was to include women’s strawweights and bantamweights as well as men’s middleweights. That tryout, which was also announced for May 23, has been canceled, according to the release. “TUF 26” will begin filming in July and will premiere on Fox Sports 1 later this year. “TUF 25” is currently airing on FS1 and will conclude at the “TUF 25” finale in Las Vegas on July 7. The UFC currently has three women’s weight classes: bantamweight, strawweight and the recently created featherweight division. The promotion held its first-ever women’s flyweight bout at UFC Fight Night 89 in June 2016 between Valerie Letourneau and Joanne Calderwood .

Inactivity Sharpens Darren Till’s Focus

Darren Till for the past year and a half has gone through what he describes as the toughest time of his life after a shoulder injury forced him to the sidelines. Till wowed the masses with his grounded elbow finish of Wendell de Oliveira Marques in his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut at UFC Fight Night 67 in May 2015. The undefeated muay Thai practitioner’s bilingual post-fight interview, during which he waxed lyrical in Portuguese before addressing the English-speaking audience with his well-enunciated Scouse accent, further enamored those in attendance. Five months later, in his sophomore UFC appearance, Till shocked onlookers with how easily he handled former Cage Warriors Fighting Championship titleholder Nicolas Dalby . Everything seemed to be going according to plan -- he had two rounds in the bank -- at UFC Fight Night 76 in Dublin, until his shoulder popped out of place. The injury helped Dalby secure a 10-8 round and a majority draw on the scorecards. “When I felt it go, I just thought if I could stick with him I could win it, because I figured I’d won the first two rounds well,” Till told Sherdog.

Sherdog’s Top 10: May Tussles Worth Watching

In an effort to bring more attention to the global stage of mixed martial arts, this list does not focus on major North American-based promotions like the Ultimate Fighting Championship and Bellator MMA. *** Two of the sport’s top women’s flyweights are on a collision course in Invicta Fighting Championships . The well-traveled and battle-tested Vanessa Porto , who has twice fought for titles within the company, will meet undefeated Polish prospect Agnieszka Niedzwiedz in the Invicta 23 headliner on May 20 at the Scottish Rite Temple in Kansas City, Missouri. The event will stream in its entirety to UFC Fight Pass at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT. Porto, 33, last appeared at Invicta 16 on March 11, 2016, when she wound up on the wrong side of a unanimous decision in her rematch with Jennifer Maia -- a woman she had submitted with an armbar four years prior. The loss snapped her three-fight winning streak. Victories over Tonya Evinger , Hitomi Akano , Tara LaRosa , Zoila Frausto and reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship women’s featherweight titleholder Germaine de Randamie buoy Porto’s resume.

Conor McGregor: 5 Defining Moments

The instant Conor McGrgeor graced the Ultimate Fighting Championship with his presence it became clear he was a different kind of animal. His performances since have only served to drive home the point. McGregor has compiled a 9-1 record under the UFC flag, captured championships in two weight classes and emerged as the company’s brightest star and biggest box-office draw. The 28-year-old former two-division Cage Warriors Fighting Championship titleholder has gone the distance just twice in 10 appearances inside the Octagon, all while posting victories over Marcus Brimage , Diego Brandao , Dustin Poirier , Dennis Siver and others. As he sits on the UFC lightweight throne, McGregor has cast his eyes toward greener pastures and a potential $100 million payday against boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr. While the two men continue to tease audiences with the thought of a landmark super fight between boxing and MMA superstars, McGregor can rest easy knowing he has already cemented his place as a historical figure in mixed martial arts. In a transcendent career bursting at the seams with defining moments, here are five that stand out: 1.

Tony Ferguson Skewers ‘Fake B*tch Nate Diaz’ After Watching Yesterday’s Diaz Special

“Khabib, McGregor and Nate Diaz are a bunch of (expletive). Well, let me say it this way, they’re a bunch of non-winners. Didn’t mean to say that, let me try and clean it up. These guys are not in it to win it. Their bushido way is not in the shinobi way, they’re not in it for a ninja. You say ‘ninja skills,’ you want to say ‘don’t be scared homie.’ It’s all fake for them and I understand it. You want to build your following, that’s cool. I say, you ain’t shit without your homeboys. And I don’t know if Conor deserves the red panty night at the sight of my hands like the butcher, cause that dude is an easy plate to pick and three hit wonder, let me talk my way to a title. I have to give it to him. You know, not everyone can do it the way he did it. But as far as technical goes, I’m way, way better of a fighter than him. I hit way harder than him and I’m very hard to hit and I roll with the punches more than anybody. One of my leg kicks would chop his leg off and that dude would go limping home to Ireland. I’m seriously tired of this leprechaun, I’m tired of these fake (expletive) dudes.

Georges St. Pierre Hints That UFC Return Could Come at Madison Square Garden

The ideal date for Georges St. Pierre ’s Octagon return, at least according to Dana White, is UFC 213 on July 8. However, the former welterweight king attended an NHL playoff game between the New York Rangers and Ottawa Senators at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday and hinted that the renowned venue could be the site of his first bout since November 2013. “I could be fighting here in a few months….Can’t wait,” St. Pierre wrote on Twitter. Trainer John Hackleman: Potential Chuck Liddell Comeback Would Depend on Opponent

If his recent social media presence means anything, Chuck Liddell could be primed to make a return to mixed martial arts. “The Iceman” fueled the rumor mill when he showed up on Jay Glazer’s Instagram throwing elbows on the focus mitts and also posted a picture on his own account where he looked arguably more fit than he did during his UFC championship heyday. During an appearance on the Anik & Florian Podcast , longtime Liddell trainer John Hackleman addressed the possibility of a comeback by the ex-light heavyweight king. While Hackleman admitted the final decision wouldn’t be up to him, the price — and opponent — would have to be right. “Just like when they first wanted him to quit and he wanted to keep fighting, everybody was thinking I was trying to push him to keep fighting, which isn’t true. But like I always said, it’s whatever is in his heart. 3 million bucks? Who is gonna tell someone, ‘No. I’m not gonna allow you to make $3 million, which is more than most people make in three lifetimes.’ “It would all depend upon…this sounds so bad. Seriously, the people who know me know what a terrible mother hen I am when it comes to matching my fighters, but it would depend on the match.

6 tips to improve your posture in BJJ by @bjj_fundamentals

The greatest secret in Jiu-Jitsu is the posture, something all the white belts needs to pay attention since the start. Learn to keep your back straight when you are inside someone’s guard. Good posture will save you from being unbalanced, swept and submitted. Also remember to keep the toes bent and stuck in the dojo, not just with the instep lying on the floor. This prevents you from being pushed easily.

Nate Diaz calls Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather's bluff | BJPenn.com

“Why is Mayweather telling everybody that McGregor has a chance?” Nate asked with a laugh. “You guys are selling that hard. That’s wolf tickets. You remember wolf tickets? You guys are selling it hard and I ain’t buying it.” “I already said it, I’m calling their bluff. Can we pick up the pace please? I thought it was going to happen, but now everybody’s died down and shut up. Every week they were talking shit back and forth. It’s all a hype game, they’re building each other up and UFC is in on it too. Bring boxing back alive, bring MMA alive, it’s the only thing going on. It’s only cause it’s the only thing going on and they’re selling it as that.” “Mayweather’s coming back relevant, McGregor’s staying relevant, and the boxers are all known and the UFC sees that, and now everybody’s like oh, this is the biggest thing. So it was good for everybody to happen, but now that it’s time to happen, where’s it at? I call their bluff. Make the fight happen. Let’s see it the fuck happen, because in the end, I’m the winner in the whole thing anyway.
