The Art of Trash Talk
"I think the main thing is when it's personal, it makes it personal for the fans, too," UFC women's champion Ronda Rousey told FOX Sports. "When they pick sides and there's a group of friends watching the fight, and some friends pick one person, and some like the other one, and there's a big back story to the buildup, everyone is arguing for their fighter. When the fight itself happens, it's not just about the two fighters anymore; it's about who in the living room is right. A lot of times, the whole trash talking side of it is what brings it into your living room and makes it really personal for the people watching. If you're in a stadium and cheering, and the person next to you is booing, you're going to cheer even louder because you want to be louder than the booing person. So it escalates when there's disagreement, and that's what I go for. I don't just go for cheers. I go for noise and influence."
He’s done. I don’t give a shit if he’s the best 170-pounder in the world. He’ll never come back here again…I’m probably the most lenient guy in sports. And this is probably one of the most lenient organizations. We’re all human, we all make mistakes, things happen. [But] there’s no excuse for that. These guys are professional athletes. You don’t ever hit a guy blatantly after the bell like that whether you’re frustrated or not. It was probably one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen…I don’t care if he fights in every show all over the world and becomes the best and everybody thinks he’s the pound-for-pound best in the world. He will never fight in the UFC ever again.

Instead of focusing so heavily on the sports , let’s actually focus on the entertainment that Tim Sylvia has provided us over the years. Personally, I was still in high school during the Tim Sylvia Era. A friend had exposed me to his collection of UFC events, and I immediately became hooked. I won’t claim that I was the biggest fan of the then-heavyweight champion — even with my limited knowledge of MMA, I realized Sylvia was an unrefined fighter — but there was something inspiring about watching him compete. “The Maine-iac” managed to achieve the highest honor in his sport, despite being the last person on the planet who most people would look at and think “professional athlete.” And of course, his rivalry with Andrei Arlovski helped make things interesting, even when his fights occasionally weren’t .

A Beautiful Corpse: An oral history of the fast life and quick death of the XFL
JAY HOWARTH, actress; producer-director of the XFL cheerleaders: My instinct was I don't want to be part of this, but I need to do this. It has my name all over this. Because I also produce World Cup games and Olympic shows and whatnot. I produce Hollywood events, these big citywide events. I'm enough of a producer to know that if they call the average cheerleading director, she'll get crucified. I'm also enough in Hollywood to know no one has ever gotten cheerleaders right. ... I didn't know if I was going to be shunned by the sports world. I didn't, by the way, take the job at the XFL until I had spoken personally with both Pat Bowlen (Denver Broncos owner) and Roger Goodell. I was right out of the Denver Broncos, and I had done a lot of work with Roger with NFL Europe and all that kind of stuff.
Miesha Tate on upcoming free agency: 'I do want to get paid more'
"I do want to get paid more, of course," she said. "I think my stock's gone up a lot since fighting in the UFC. I think the contract that transpired when I was still in Strikeforce, transitioning to the UFC, doesn't reflect what I feel like I'm worth. So that's a whole process that has to happen."

Dennis Bermudez calls out Dustin Poirier, thinks Chad Mendes will beat Jose Aldo at UFC 176
Now, the New York-native received some attention following his dominant UFC 171 win over Jimy Hettes in March, his sixth in a row, which tied him with current 145-pound champion Jose Aldo for the longest winning streak in the division. Still, it was another win over an unranked opponent on a major show's undercard. Needless to say, it's time to step up. So following a press conference in New York City on Thursday for the UFC's public awareness campaign " Protect Yourself ," aimed at spreading the word on the importance of HIV testing and safe sex, particularly for those under 30 years old, Bermudez (13-3) called out fellow featherweight contender Dustin Poirier (16-3). "[My coaches and manager] all like that fight for me, so I'm down with it," he told MMAFighting.com. "I've had a lot of people on my Twitter, every time he fights, saying Dustin and 'Menace' should fight. Just trying to give the fans what they want. Nothing personal at all. I think Dustin is a real cool dude. Bermudez isn't the kind of fighter to call out an opponent, and he did it in the most polite way possible, but he acknowledged that it was time to speak up a little more.

Rafael Natal: From Capoeira to MMA
For many mixed martial artists from Brazil, fighting started on the beach with friends before and after school with a recreational martial art called Capoeira. It was no different for Belo Horizonte native and UFC middleweight Rafael “Sapo” Natal. “I started Capoeira with my friends in Brazil, “says Natal. “Every day after school we would get together and practice. Maybe I will try some Capoeira in my next fight, but then I discovered jiu-jitsu and after two years I was a world champion and after that, in 2003, I got into MMA.” Natal has never looked back, and at 31, he is realizing a childhood dream to fight for a living in the biggest organization in the world. “I am very happy that this is my tenth fight in the UFC,” he said. “My dream is to stay in the UFC. It’s not hard to get into the UFC, but it is hard to stay in the UFC and get more contracts. This is my fourth contract now and that’s a testament to my dedication and my skill, and the belief the UFC has in me.” Sapo is looking to bounce back from a first round KO loss at the hands of Tim Kennedy in the main event at UFC Fight for the Troops last November with a win over veteran Ed Herman this weekend at UFC Fight Night: Brown vs Silva in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Dana White Explains Nate Diaz’s Removal From UFC Lightweight Rankings | MMAWeekly.com
“Nate Diaz is in this position where he’s turning down fights, hasn’t accepted any fights, and has been inactive. We don’t know how long he’s going to be inactive, so take him off the rankings. When he comes in and fights his next fight they’ll rank him again after his fight,” added the UFC president.
Sarah Moras faces Alexis Dufresne at TUF 19 Finale
Dufresne (5-0) enters the UFC with a perfect MMA record with five stoppage victories. The Team Quest fighter was expected to face Amanda Nunes at UFC on FOX 11 card in April, but was forced out of the card with a rib injury. In her last MMA bout, Dufresne needed 45 seconds to finish Kim Couture .
Flash is Fundamental for Daron Cruickshank
It’s easy to get impressed by the flashy techniques delivered by UFC lightweight Daron Cruickshank in the Octagon, especially since a couple of them have resulted in spectacular knockout wins over Henry Martinez and Mike Rio . Unfortunately, a segment of the MMA community believes that flash for flash’s sake is a bad thing, that it hides a lack of fundamentals key to success in this sport. But that’s the thing – with Cruickshank, those moves deemed unorthodox are his fundamentals, making him one of the more dangerous and unpredictable 155-pounders in the game. “The whole game is constantly changing, and what me, (UFC lightweight champion) Anthony (Pettis), and other fighters in the pure martial art forms are doing is all basic technique,” said Cruickshank. “That’s just like a jab and a cross for boxing. As a kid, you do Taekwondo, and if you grow up in that area, you’re going to throw a million spinning side kicks, spinning hook kicks, crescent kicks, axe kicks. That’s all basic stuff.” Easy for him to say, given what looks to be moves with a high degree of difficulty, but when you’re a black belt in Taekwondo whose parents also hold the same rank, it may just be something in the Cruickshank blood.
Skyscraper Struve is Back at UFC 175
Out of action since March of 2013, Stefan Struve will make his long-awaited return to the Octagon on Saturday, July 5, when he faces Matt Mitrione in a heavyweight bout to take place on the UFC 175 card at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Winner of four of his last five, Struve was sidelined as a precautionary measure due to the discovery of a rare heart condition, but after following doctors' treatment, he was cleared to resume his fighting career, and this summer he will meet Mitrione, who has won two of his last three, most recently a first round knockout of Shawn Jordan in March. Also added to the UFC 175 card, which takes place during International Fight Week, is a middleweight bout between newcomer Guilherme Vasconcelos and Luke Zachrich , and a welterweight bout pitting Ildemar Alcantara vs. Santiago Ponzinibbio .
Erick Silva comfortable to stand and bang with Matt Brown
"I wasn’t expecting this, but I don’t choose fights," he said. "I’m not worried about rankings or the title now. I’m focused on doing good fights and doing well in the UFC. I’m honored to fight him, and I’m going there to win. They gave an opponent of this caliber, so I’ll make sure to show that they made the right call."
Bellator and Everlast Unveil New Powerlock MMA Glove to Curb Injuries | MMAWeekly.com
In early 2014, Bellator and Everlast collaborated to create the next-generation of MMA fight gloves with the “Powerlock” design. The “Powerlock” glove promotes proper hand form and technique, which can help to reduce the risk of face, hand and wrist injuries by introducing a curved striking surface that aides proper hand form, along with a redesigned foam to maximize hand protection on the impact zone and additional padding that shields the first and fifth metacarpals, two of the most commonly injured bones of the hand.
Matt Brown: ‘I don’t think anyone has put on fights as exciting as the ones I have put on’
"I don't think anybody has the kind of streak that I have going," Brown said. "I don't think anyone has put on fights as exciting as the ones I have put on. I don't think any one has finished fights the way I have. I believe I have every right to be at the top, and the only argument is whether I have fought guys who are at a high level as those guys.
Matt Brown’s Immortal workout
Matt Brown doesn’t train like other UFC fighters. He does his strength and conditioning with legendary gym Westside Barbell, which has produced more elite-level powerlifters than any other training facility – but he doesn’t do much squatting and benching. Louie Simmons, the owner of the Westside, explains why this means the top ten-ranked welterweight is much, much stronger than he looks.

UFC Fight Night Cincinnati: Heavy Hands interview with Soa Palelei, fight week
As for striking on the feet, Palelei expressed his fondness for light, technical sparring, something he believes is essential to the development of technique and comfort in the cage."You can't go in there trying to knock each other out," he told me emphatically. "Or less you're not going to learn anything." This mentality is one that a lot of fighters could learn from, especially in MMA where so many athletes seem determined to kill each other in training camp. It certainly doesn't seem to have hindered Palelei's ability to hurt his opponents when fight time comes.

UFC Fight Night 40 headliner Erick Silva hoping to win over American fans
On Saturday, Silva (16-4 MMA, 4-3 UFC) meets surging contender Matt Brown (18-11 MMA, 11-5 UFC) in the headlining bout of “UFC Fight Night 40: Brown vs. Silva,” at Cincinnati’s U.S. Bank Arena. The six-fight main card airs on FOX Sports 1 (10 p.m. ET) following prelims on FOX Sports 2 (8 ET) and UFC Fight Pass (6:30 ET).
Matt Brown: 'Losing in front of your friends and family sucks pretty bad'
Brown is a heavy hitter, and his eight knockout wins in the UFC are the most in the history of the promotion’s welterweight division. Silva’s quickness and creativity will provide an ample challenge, but if Brown is able to pass the test, he may have a new answer when asked about the proudest moment of his fighting career. And it seems – for Brown, at least – the risk is certainly worth the reward.
Inside the fight: Analysts break down Brown vs. Silva card
"That is kind of crazy," Bisping said about the odds. "If you look at Matt Brown's current form, he's on a five or six fight win streak, most of them were stoppages. He's always exciting. He always goes forward, and he's aggressive every, single time. Erick Silva poses some threats of course, he's got great striker and very well rounded skill set. For me, I'm leaning towards Matt Brown. His aggression will be a key factor. It's certainly an interesting fight. 2 to 1 underdog, I'm not sure I agree with that."
Michael Bisping Reaches Out to Mark Munoz, but Would Still Fight Him if UFC Asks | MMAWeekly.com
“As of right now, it’s still very, very early days to say that I’m on the fight team,” said Bisping. “We haven’t got to that point yet. But I tell you right now, if the UFC called up and said we want you to fight Mark Munoz, then I’ll say right, great, listen let’s shake hands, put it to one side. I’ll step aside, I’ll do my own thing, and we’ll have the fight and that will be that.

Dana White explains why Nate Diaz is off the official rankings
Despite MiddleEasy having credentials for just about any UFC show, they ignore my multiple requests to add my picks for the UFC rankings. It bums me out considering I know I could do better than well over half of the people on that list, but I don't want to be mean or call anyone out, I just want to rank some fighters.
