'Si, Se Puede' Cain Velasquez Embodies Mexican-American Pride

The 32-year-old Velasquez hasn’t fought in 20 months due to injuries, and he knows the mixed-martial arts world will be watching closely to see if he remains, well, the baddest and most intimidating man on the planet. Will Velasquez still be the same relentless fighter whom AKA Coach Javier Mendez simply calls “The Terminator” because he never, ever, stops coming for his opponent?

Boxing Preview: Deontay Wilder vs. Eric Molina

Deontay Wilder is 33-0. | Photo: Hoganphotos/Showtime One of the sporting world’s best-kept secrets lies within a gargantuan heavyweight 6-foot-7 frame, hidden behind two of the most lethal hands in all of boxing. Even though he has fought professionally 33 times, never lost and has knocked out all of his opponents save for only one man, Deontay Wilder remains an unknown commodity to the casual sports fan. That certainly should change within a year, as Wilder appears destined to quickly find himself on a collision course with undisputed heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko. And, provided the “The Bronze Bomber” can do what no man has done in a decade in defeating the hulking Ukrainian, Wilder should become that inaccurately-labeled “overnight sensation.” However, Wilder must first get through opponent Eric Molina on Saturday night; their fight the main event on Showtime Championship Boxing. Though Wilder is rightfully a massive betting favorite, Molina isn’t some chump who doesn’t belong in the ring with the Alabama native.

New York Legislators Scrambling to Sanction MMA by Next Week | FIGHTLAND

The real question for me, especially after reporting on the Connecticut MMA law—which was rendered pretty much toothless by a provision requiring promoters to pay for fighters’ injuries in perpetuity—is if Morelle’s revised bill, with its greatly enhanced insurance requirements, will prevent smaller promotions (or even bigger ones) from putting on shows in the state, reducing the New York law to little more than a piece of paper. Reporter Jim Genia, who knows more about New York MMA than anyone, believes that the insurance requirements could prove cost-prohibitive, just like they have in Connecticut. “Sure, the UFC and Bellator will be able to afford it,” Genia writes, “but it’s going to be tough for the Ring of Combats and Cage Fury Fighting Championships of the world to take on that risk.”

Comic-Con: WBTV Bringing 18 Shows, Including Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl - IGN

For the second year in a row, WBTV are having a special Saturday night mega-event devoted to their DC Comics-based live-action series – Supergirl (which will screen its pilot at the event), The Flash, Arrow, Gotham and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Also included in this event is a presentation for the upcoming animated series Vixen, which takes place in the Arrow/The Flash universe. Last year, neither The Flash or Gotham had their own individual panels, though Arrow and Constantine did. This time out, none of the shows coming to "Super Hero Saturday Night" will have their own panels, instead keeping their presence focused on this event. No specific guests are listed yet for Saturday night, but given the precedent set last year, when nearly the entire casts of all the shows represented took part, it's safe to expect something similar.

DOLCE LIFESTYLE: 5 Workplace Habits to Avoid | The Dolce Diet

5. Spending Too Much Time on Social Media A lot of jobs now require social media interaction to help build and maintain brands. However, this is not a good way to distract yourself. The brain produces dopamine, which gives us the sensation of pleasure, which we tend to fulfill nowadays through social media due to its unpredictability and constant updates. Often times, when you want to click over to Facebook, it’s merely your brain’s way of telling you that you need a break. Try to use other means to give your brain a break, such as stepping outside for a few minutes, chatting with a colleague, listening to some music.

Ken Shamrock Calls Chiseled 51-Year-Old Physique Product of ‘Hard Work and Genetics’

Tonight's training was great. Ready for this fight. pic.twitter.com/as0qoHuQ7S — KEN SHAMROCK (@ShamrockKen) June 9, 2015 The average 51-year-old man isn’t supposed to look like Ken Shamrock . Then again, the average 51-year-old doesn’t have to fight the world’s most famous YouTube brawler inside a cage on national television in less than two weeks. When Shamrock recently posted a post-training picture on Twitter proclaiming himself ready for his June 19 showdown with Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson at Bellator 138 , his chiseled physique raised more than a few eyebrows in the MMA community. Such is life in the PED era, when virtually everyone is presumed guilty until a thoroughly tested urine or blood sample proves otherwise. According to Bellator MMA President Scott Coker, both Shamrock and Slice are clean ahead of their heavyweight clash at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis. “At the direction of [Missouri Office of Athletics Director Tim Lueckenhoff], our main event fighters were subject to pre-fight drug testing, and we were informed last week that both fighters passed their test,” Coker said during a conference call on Wednesday.

Legacy Fighting Championship Signs Ex-UFC Talent Sean Soriano to Multi-Fight Deal

Sean Soriano has a new home promotion. | Photo: Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com Texas-based promotion Legacy Fighting Championship has inked three-time Octagon veteran Sean Soriano to a multi-bout contract. Legacy FC promoter Mick Maynard announced the signing on Wednesday. Soriano’s Legacy debut will come in the kickboxing arena against Josh Glover on July 24 in Houston. It will be the organization’s third third kickboxing event of 2015. Soriano is also expected to compete on future Legacy MMA cards. Anchored at the Blackzilians camp, Soriano began his professional tenure with eight consecutive victories, capturing the Championship Fighting Alliance featherweight belt along the way. The 25-year-old made his Octagon debut at UFC Fight Night in January 2014, losing to Tatsuya Kawajiri via second-round rear-naked choke. Soriano would fall to Chas Skelly and Charles Rosa in his next two appearances with the Las Vegas-based promotion before being released.

Complete Guide to UFC 188

But if he does make it to the Octagon on Saturday night, we’ll finally have the chance to see the best heavyweight of this generation. It has been far too long, and we have been robbed of far too many chances to see him because of his injuries. I think we tend to forget just how good Velasquez is, because in mixed martial arts, absence doesn’t make the heart grow fonder; absence makes us forget. And then he comes back, and he reminds us of just how gloriously violent he is, and we remember what he has done to so many other heavyweights.

UFC 188: Fabricio Werdum on how losing to girlfriend's ex got him to where he is today

MMA Fighting's Guilherme Cruz recently spoke to the 37-year-old grappling ace , who detailed how he was once beaten in an impromptu jiu-jitsu match at the beach by his girlfriend's ex. That loss to "Marquinhos" would have a huge impact on the rest of Werdum's life, and he credits it as being the reason he took up the discipline formally. Here's an excerpt from the fantastic feature:

In regards to my positive test results for an Anabolic Steroid. I want to say that I lost the integrity in myself and the integrity of this sport. I will not sit here and deny that I took it or act like I didn’t know what I was taking or blame it on someone else. I am a cheat, plan and simple and there is no excuse or reason that is valid enough to dispute the reasons why I cheated the sport and myself by using it. I want to apologize to Bellator MMA for my actions. I want to apologize again to my hard working Teammates who are not cutting corners and busting their asses off everyday in the gym to better themselves. I want to apologize to My head MMA coach Greg Nelson for making him and his gym the Academy look bad. He had no knowledge of me using at all. I want to make the same apology to my S&C coach Matt Miller of Horsepower strength and conditioning, he also had no knowledge of my use of this Anabolic Steroid.
