Brock Lesnar remembers his lone meeting with Muhammad Ali

"Here's a guy who's a boxer, who is selling tickets talking the talk and getting in the ring and walking the walk. He set the stage," Lesnar said. "It's big business. You've got to be flashy on the outside and flashy on the inside. It's a tragedy. My heart goes out to the family. To live with Parkinson's for how many years. Very difficult and that's just a battle in itself -- forget how great of a champion he was. The man had to live with Parkinson's for how many years? That's a feat in its own."

Postal Connections: Digging Out from Helwani-Gate

As a longtime fight fan who’s old enough to have lived through the time period in which Muhammad Ali demonstrated true conviction of his beliefs, the decision by UFC President Dana White to expel a respected journalist like Helwani during the actual event is a direct sign that very little progress has been made over the last 50 years to support freedom of speech and tolerance for differing opinions. Instead of the UFC’s stock televised Ali tribute, it should’ve actually researched the hypocrisy and absurdity of removing Helwani. Having attended over 50 UFC events with a decade-plus of dedicated support, I called the UFC-Zuffa corporate offices to express my views. As expected, this organization had no one willing to discuss this topic and only referred me to an online forum. The fact that this organization is in the fight business and facilitated this journalistic repression the day after Ali’s passing is truly disgraceful. The fact that they hide behind a 20-year-old receptionist and online feedback makes them no different than typical corporate cowards who sign Reebok deals and again homogenize our society with cookie-cutter products.

Mark Hunt: Anti-Doping Policy Exemption Granted to Brock Lesnar ‘A Load of Bulls—t’

Mark Hunt has some very strong feelings regarding the Anti-Doping Policy exemption granted to Brock Lesnar to allow the former heavyweight champion to compete at UFC 200 on July 9. “I don’t think that’s fair. I think it’s load of bulls—t; I think it’s rubbish,” Hunt told Fox Sports Australia . “I don’t think anyone should be exempt from testing. If they’re trying to clean the sport up — mixed martial arts — this is a bad way to do it. I don’t care who you are. It’s ridiculous.” In most cases, a fighter coming out of retirement is required to provide written notice of his/her intent to return to active competition and make himself/herself available for testing at least four months in advance. However, the UFC has granted Lesnar an exemption to the four-month rule, which can be applied “in exceptional circumstances or where the strict application of that rule would be manifestly unfair to an athlete.” While Lesnar will now be subject to in- and out-of-competition testing leading up to UFC 200, Hunt is not confident that his opponent will be clean.

The Bottom Line: Brock Lesnar’s Return Better Be Guided by Right Motivations

In advance of his return to MMA at UFC 200 , Brock Lesnar is saying all the right things. When he announced he would be fighting Mark Hunt at that event on ESPN, he made it a point to say that he was haunted by his decision to re-sign with World Wrestling Entertainment in March. Lesnar framed his Ultimate Fighting Championship homecoming as something for which he pushed, rather than an opportunity presented to him by the UFC. The narrative is that Lesnar is hungry, motivated and healthier than he has been in a long time. It’s understandable that Lesnar is taking this tact. Lesnar has smart people on his team, and they know the Hunt fight is much more intriguing if Lesnar comes in with a point to prove. However, just because it makes for a good story doesn’t necessarily make it true. Maybe this fight means more to Lesnar than just a big paycheck, but there’s plenty of reason to doubt his telling of what this is all about. Most of it revolves around timing. If Lesnar was itching to make an MMA comeback, last year was the best time to do it.

31 UFC Hires Farragut to Fight Muhammad Ali Act - Fri., Jun. 10, 2016

Currently, the Muhammad Ali Act does not apply to mixed martial arts. Some in the industry — including industry group The Mixed Martial Arts Fighters Association , among others — have argued that Congress should amend the act to allow the protections of the Ali Act to cover MMA, as the auspices provided by that Act would benefit that fast-growing industry's fighters. Others, however, have argued that the Muhammad Ali Act isn’t applicable to MMA; that the bill was created to offer protections for another sport whose rules and organizational structure are entirely different.

Watch 100+ Channels On Pluto TV CES MMA 36 goes down Friday at the Twin River Casino in Lincoln, Rhode Island, and will be televised live on AXS TV beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. The show will be headlined by a lightweight showdown between Nate Andrews and Luis Muro . As expected, both men stepped to the scale on point at Thursday’s weigh-in, checking in at 156 pounds. Sanders was supposed to oppose Luis Felix for the lightweight title in the original main event and had spent eight weeks training for it. When Felix withdrew from the card due to an injury in training, the scramble for a new opponent was underway. That did not deter the Maine fighter from making weight: Sanders tipped the scales at 156 pounds. Makashvili, a three-fight UFC veteran recently released from the Las Vegas-based promotion, is looking to get back on track. Makashvili pounced on the chance to fight in CES MMA and looked as ready as he ever has.

A Radio Program Director's Guide to the Best MMA Podcasts

For a long time I thought the word podcast was a dirty one. I have spent over a decade in the FM world. In that space, the radio industry has bred fear into its workers. First it was satellite radio, then it was HD radio, and then it was the dreadful “P-word.” Now everyone knows the word. Heck, if you don’t have a podcast of your own, you probably listen to at least one. Every subject in the world has a podcast dedicated to it. The biggest stigma about podcasting for radio people is that everyone and anyone can create and publish a show about anything. Whether you’re a soccer mom from Kansas City, or a comedian that tours the world, you can share your thoughts and opinions with a few dollars and a trip to any electronics store. While I am not sure if there is a soccer mom podcast, I do know there is a Joe Rogan podcast. Allow me to give you some tips on what to look for when searching for the best MMA podcast or any others worth listening to. Content is key. While in real estate it’s location, location, location, in podcasting it’s content cubed. Remember, anyone can do a podcast.

‘TUF 23’ Recap: Episode 8

Tonight’s episode of “The Ultimate Fighter” begins with a Team Claudia training session. Coach Claudia Gadelha is confident that her team can complete its season-long sweep against her hated rival Joanna Jedrzejczyk ’s squad. The Brazilian feels that Abdel Medjedoub , who will fight by this episode’s end, can win the entire show. In the meantime, Cory Hendricks suffers a training injury to his left shoulder and neck, and it looks problematic to say the least. Medjedoub’s opponent, Josh Stansbury , is psyched about having the entire team’s fate resting on his shoulders and is extremely focused on getting Team Joanna’s first win of the season. Coach Jedrzejczyk is instructing him to be wary of his foe’s striking and is pushing him hard in training. Stansbury reveals to the camera that he feels as though the Canadian will come into the fight with heavy emotions because of what he went through recently and feels as though that might work against Medjedoub. Two days later, Gadelha walks into her team’s dressing room, only to find Hendricks in the turtle position because of the pain he’s in.

4 Fighters Removed From UFC Roster

The Ultimate Fighting Championship is the pinnacle of mixed martial arts. Their roster consists of over four-hundred men and women all fighting for the same prize: The championship of their respective divisions. Some fighters are prepared to storm to the top of their weight class, but others are at a point in their career where they may not have realized their full potential. Often is the case that UFC decides to part ways with them for them to continue their journeys elsewhere.
