A statement on the Dallas Police Department’s website confirms that Ivan Robert-Earnest Cole was found dead after officers responded to a shooting at the 13700 block of Montfort Drive at approximately 7:31 a.m. local time. Cole was 25 years old. Watch 100+ Channels On Pluto TV “The death of Mr. Cole will be classified as an unexplained death pending the results of the autopsy,” the statement read. A native of New Orleans, Cole compiled a 2-3 MMA record over the course of a career that began in 2012. Boxing: Larry Holmes Remembers Muhammad Ali

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky -- Larry Holmes is one of the most unappreciated heavyweight champions in boxing history, if not the most underrated. The 66-year-old hall of famer is a kind, articulate man who’s often misjudged for one comment -- “Rocky Marciano couldn’t carry my jockstrap” -- which he said after his controversial loss in his first fight with Michael Spinks in 1985. Holmes later apologized, but it stuck to him like a stain. Holmes is more positively associated with the man he credits for making him who he is and what he’ll be remembered for: one of the greatest heavyweight champs in boxing history. The man was Muhammad Ali, for whom Holmes was a major sparring partner from 1971 to 1975. Holmes and Ali fought on Oct. 2, 1980. It was a fight for which Ali came out of a two-year retirement. Holmes became the only fighter to ever stop “The Greatest,” as Ali’s trainer, Angelo Dundee, told referee Richard Greene to end the lopsided fight after the 10th round. Caesars Palace in Las Vegas constructed a temporary 24,790-seat outdoor arena for the fight. The live gate was $6 million, a record for that time.

Postal Connections: Digging Out from Helwani-Gate

As a longtime fight fan who’s old enough to have lived through the time period in which Muhammad Ali demonstrated true conviction of his beliefs, the decision by UFC President Dana White to expel a respected journalist like Helwani during the actual event is a direct sign that very little progress has been made over the last 50 years to support freedom of speech and tolerance for differing opinions. Instead of the UFC’s stock televised Ali tribute, it should’ve actually researched the hypocrisy and absurdity of removing Helwani. Having attended over 50 UFC events with a decade-plus of dedicated support, I called the UFC-Zuffa corporate offices to express my views. As expected, this organization had no one willing to discuss this topic and only referred me to an online forum. The fact that this organization is in the fight business and facilitated this journalistic repression the day after Ali’s passing is truly disgraceful. The fact that they hide behind a 20-year-old receptionist and online feedback makes them no different than typical corporate cowards who sign Reebok deals and again homogenize our society with cookie-cutter products.

The Bottom Line: Brock Lesnar’s Return Better Be Guided by Right Motivations

In advance of his return to MMA at UFC 200 , Brock Lesnar is saying all the right things. When he announced he would be fighting Mark Hunt at that event on ESPN, he made it a point to say that he was haunted by his decision to re-sign with World Wrestling Entertainment in March. Lesnar framed his Ultimate Fighting Championship homecoming as something for which he pushed, rather than an opportunity presented to him by the UFC. The narrative is that Lesnar is hungry, motivated and healthier than he has been in a long time. It’s understandable that Lesnar is taking this tact. Lesnar has smart people on his team, and they know the Hunt fight is much more intriguing if Lesnar comes in with a point to prove. However, just because it makes for a good story doesn’t necessarily make it true. Maybe this fight means more to Lesnar than just a big paycheck, but there’s plenty of reason to doubt his telling of what this is all about. Most of it revolves around timing. If Lesnar was itching to make an MMA comeback, last year was the best time to do it.

Stories from the Road: Ken Shamrock

They eyed up each other backstage, as macho-row guys tend to do when they are all vying for the same thing. The glares were a good way to suppress the spinning anxiety within. The reality was no one knew what to expect or what they were getting into. They were tough-dude lab rats about to be put out on live display for the curious crowd at the McNichols Sports Arena in Denver on Nov. 12, 1993. There was one, however, who never wavered. He sauntered around with a confident air knowing he would be there in the end, even though what was ahead was a rather dark delta to cross. That was because nothing ever really intimidated Ken Shamrock . It stemmed from seeing and doing almost everything there was available in the combat-sports world. So when Shamrock gathered with seven other fighters at UFC 1-- with Royce Gracie , boxer Art Jimmerson , sumo wrestler Teila Tuli , taekwondo black belt Patrick Smith and kickboxers Gerard Gordeau , Zane Frazier and Kevin Rosier -- he felt pretty good about taking home the $50,000 in first-place prize money.

Boxing Video: Vasyl Lomachenko Makes Easy Work of Roman Martinez

Watch: @vasyllomachenko's match winning explosive right hook. #MartinezLomachenko — HBOboxing (@HBOboxing) June 12, 2016 There is a nonchalance about Vasyl Lomachenko. Everything comes so naturally to the two-time Olympic gold medalist in the ring. The way he works angles, his unbelievable hand speed and understated confidence projects the image that you can’t beat him. Roman Martinez tired Saturday night, at the Theater at Madison Square Garden. At stake was the Martinez’s WBO junior lightweight title. You blink, you miss him. That’s apparently what Martinez may have done in the fifth round, when Lomachenko nailed him with a textbook right hook to the face, sending the rugged veteran down in a heap. Martinez never got up, ending at 1:09 of the fifth. Lomachenko set up the telling blow with a left to the face, causing Martinez to pull up his guard. Lomachenko then followed that with a left uppercut, then a devastating right hook. That was it. Martinez was out. Watch 100+ Channels On Pluto TV Let’s get this straight: The Ultimate Fighting Championship is finally co-promoting again. It’s not with another mixed martial arts promotion, though. It’s with professional wrestling’s industry leader, World Wrestling Entertainment. That’s the underwriting in the news that former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar is returning to the Octagon to face Mark Hunt in the UFC 200 co-main event on July 9 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The announcement that Lesnar is coming back to the UFC four-plus years after he retired from MMA competition has been treated like any other popular fighter’s return. It’s welcome, even long-anticipated. Yet the fact Lesnar has an existing WWE contract -- his UFC 200 assignment required WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon ’s approval to crossover from pre-determined pro wrestling outcomes back into shoot fighting -- hasn’t resonated. This is a talent exchange between the main promoters in pro wrestling and MMA. The UFC has been notoriously anti-co-promotion since Pride Fighting Championships burned it on the matter.

John Kavanagh gives update on Conor McGregor's potential return to featherweight | UFC Fight News & Videos

“The short answer is I don’t know,” said Kavanagh. “I’m very intrigued to see the Aldo and Edgar fight. I hope Aldo is fully recovered from the bad knockout. I thought (Chad) Mendes went back in there really quick after the knockout against Conor.” “People don’t realize the damage it does — it takes a long time to recover, and I think Mendes went down quicker in that fight because of that,” added Kavanagh. “Maybe if he’d let himself rest a bit more he might have had more fight for Edgar. I hope that’s not the case for Aldo, (I hope) we get to see a solid version of Aldo and a new kind of improved Edgar, and see what different from the first fight. So yea, let’s see that, and assess after the rematch. It’s kind of those two names and (Max) Holloway kind of in the mix, so it’s an interesting time.”

Chris Weidman Targets Title Shot vs. ‘Bum’ Michael Bisping at UFC 205 in New York

Chris Weidman is on track to return when the Ultimate Fighting Championship makes its New York debut at Madison Square Garden late this year, and he has a pretty good idea of who his opponent should be. “Hey [ Michael Bisping ], was it a little easier saying my name before the opportunity of fighting me came? I don’t hear you now,” Weidman wrote on Instagram . “I’m sorted out, bum. Let’s try to see you shut me up Nov. 12 on the biggest stage in the world. The fairytale is over soon, believe you me.” After losing the middleweight title to Luke Rockhold at UFC 194, Weidman was supposed to face Rockhold in a rematch at UFC 199 this past Saturday. The Serra-Longo Fight Team product was forced to withdraw from the contest to undergo surgery for a herniated disc in his neck, and Bisping stepped in on short notice and knocked out Rockhold in the opening stanza to claim 185-pound gold. According to a report from , Weidman underwent surgery on Wednesday and hopes to begin “hard MMA sparring” in six weeks. Weidman previously targeted UFC 205 in New York for his return after revealing the full extent of his injury last month.

Rustam Khabilov, Reza Madadi to Square Off at UFC Fight Night in Hamburg

A lightweight matchup pitting Rustam Khabilov against Reza Madadi has been added to the UFC Fight Night “Arlovski vs. Barnett” lineup. Promotion officials revealed the bout on Friday. UFC Fight Night takes place at Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg, Germany, on Sept. 3 and is headlined by a heavyweight scrap between Andrei Arlovski and Josh Barnett . Watch 100+ Channels On Pluto TV Khabilov is 2-0 thus far in 2016, posting unanimous decision triumphs over Chris Wade and Norman Parke . The Dagestani fighter is 5-2 in the UFC overall with other notable wins against Jorge Masvidal and Yancy Medeiros . Madadi, meanwhile, returned to the promotion after more than a two-year absence in October, when he lost a three-round verdict to Parke at UFC Fight Night Dublin. “Mad Dog” got back in the win column with a third-round TKO of Yan Cabral on May 8, improving his UFC mark to 3-2.

UFC Fighting To Keep Muhammad Ali Act Out Of MMA

The UFC, in particular, has for years resisted Congressional efforts to expand the regulations of the Muhammad Ali Act to MMA. UFC parent company Zuffa in 2008 retained lobbying firm Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck to lobby on Capitol Hill in opposition to Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) now-failed Professional Boxing Amendments Act of 2007, which would have further amended the 1996 Professional Boxing Safety Act and strengthened the oversight of the Muhammad Ali Act by standardizing new health and safety requirements as well as establishing a new commission to oversee the sport.

Former MMA fighters: Proposed federal legislation should be approved

This amendment is desperately needed by combat sports athletes and to enable these sports to prosper and thrive. The lack of financial disclosures and coercive contractual practices that plagues MMA not only deprives each athlete of rights already offered to boxers, but prevents investment in the sport and, as a result, stunts its natural growth.

47 UFC Hires Farragut to Fight Muhammad Ali Act - Fri., Jun. 10, 2016

Currently, the Muhammad Ali Act does not apply to mixed martial arts. Some in the industry — including industry group The Mixed Martial Arts Fighters Association , among others — have argued that Congress should amend the act to allow the protections of the Ali Act to cover MMA, as the auspices provided by that Act would benefit that fast-growing industry's fighters. Others, however, have argued that the Muhammad Ali Act isn’t applicable to MMA; that the bill was created to offer protections for another sport whose rules and organizational structure are entirely different.
