Matches to Make After UFC 188

This was no accident. Fabricio Werdum was the better man. Werdum submitted Cain Velasquez with a third-round guillotine choke to become the undisputed Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight titleholder in the UFC 188 “Velasquez vs. Werdum” main event on Saturday at Mexico City Arena in Mexico City. In his first appearance since October 2013, the oft-injured Velasquez tapped 2:13 into round three. What started well quickly unraveled for the American Kickboxing Academy ace. Werdum withstood his clinches, punches and takedowns throughout the first round and went to work on chopping down the two-time NCAA All-American wrestler in the second. “Vai Cavalo” battered Velasquez with clean, accurate punching combinations, a punishing jab and the occasional knee strike from the clinch. By the start of round three, Velasquez was a spent force; he was bleeding from cuts above both eyes and breathing heavily. The 32-year-old Salinas, Calif., native wandered into Werdum’s lethal clutches during a desperate takedown attempt, and with the guillotine in place, he had no choice but to call it a night.

UFC 188: Velasquez vs. Werdum post-fight results - Fights to make for main card fighters

Eddie Alvarez . Certainly a gutsy performance to rally from such a bad start and a swollen eye to get his first UFC win. It's my belief that his way of winning fights, which heavily involves him getting hit in the fact too many times, is not sustainable at a level where he can become a UFC champion, but he's still really damn good and as tough as they come. Maybe it's me, but I want the UFC to give him more winnable match-ups without thrusting him into the upper echelon of title contenders (and he already lost to Cerrone). I know he's unranked and this is theoretically a major step down in competition, but Alvarez vs. Dustin Poirier would be an insane war. If you want a ranked opponent option, then Alvarez is who Khabib Nurmagomedov fights when he gets healthy.

Joe Rogan & Friends

“One of the most complex and exciting stand-ups working in America today.  Like an idealistic hippy stuck inside the body of a testosterone-pumped US marine.  He’s been likened to late great US comedians such as Bill Hicks and Sam Kinison, but although he exhibits a similar brand of furious indignation, his observations and revelations are entirely his own.  His angry, insightful act is an absorbing battle between his raw libertarian instincts and his refined liberal sensibilities.”   -- William Cook, The Guardian   A standup comedian for more than 20 years, Joe Rogan sells out theaters internationally with his inquisitive and intense comedic style. His comedy special “Joe Rogan: Live from the Tabernacle” was released in December 2012 via his website. Rogan previously starred in two hour long specials, “Talking Monkeys in Space” (2009) and “Joe Rogan Live” (2007), and released the CD’s “Shiny Happy Jihad” (2007) and “I’m Gonna Be Dead Someday” (2000). Rogan is host of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” a twice-weekly long form conversation with guests that is one of the most popular comedy podcasts on iTunes.

Trading Shots: Weighty issues for Kelvin Gastelum

Fowlkes: I don’t disagree it’s a health and safety concern. I also don’t disagree there’s reason to be skeptical when a fight promoter says he’s making a decision based on the health of the person he is paying relatively low wages to in exchange for assuming great physical risks. I think the UFC is probably more concerned with the very real possibility of a late scratch on a fight card than any lasting damage to Gastelum’s body, but I’m willing to accept the occasional happy ending arrived at via some wrong turns.

Werdum Stuns Velasquez; Owns Undisputed Title

> MORE CONTENT: Dana White UFC 188 Recap | Fabricio Werdum Backstage Interview | Post Fight Press Conference Highlights As for the high altitude of Mexico City that Werdum spent over a month in, Velasquez said, “Two weeks I was out here training; I guess it wasn’t enough.” A favorite in the building last November when he fought Hunt instead of Velasquez when the San Jose resident was injured, Werdum found out quickly that this time around, the crowd clearly belonged to the first major combat sports heavyweight champion of Mexican descent. But the seven months of waiting to fight were unleashed as soon as referee Herb Dean waved the two fighters into battle, each man getting in hard shots before Velasquez bulled Werdum against the fence. In the midst of the close quarters scrapping, Velasquez emerged with a cut over his left eye. Moments later, Velasquez scored his first takedown, but soon enough the two were back to their feet and exchanging. Midway through the round, Werdum landed his own takedown, but Velasquez bounced back up and pinned the Brazilian to the fence.

It was a long journey to the top of the UFC heavyweight division, but now that he has the sport’s biggest prize, it’s only going to get more difficult. No champion in divisional history has ever defended the title more than twice. Werdum’s next great challenge will be trying to break that mark.

http://www.axs.tv/sports/kenny-rice-a-slice-of-the-new-old-way-in-tv-mma-kimbo-vs-shamrock/

Old is the new for Bellator in the big events. Shamrock is still a name even since his last UFC fight (a loss in October ’06 to Ortiz) and his last appearance in a cage (November ’10 KOTC) and Kimbo had a brief fling at the UFC with losses to Roy Nelson in TUF and his last recognized MMA bout a loss to Matt Mitrione (UCF 113 in ’10). So those are the guys that Bellator and Spike are banking on and given there is instant recognition for both men, they could do a respectable number in ratings. Maybe another surprisingly large one. It’s on relatively “free” TV, part of most basic or slightly extended cable and satellite packages, that is paid for anyway, so why not watch?

Michael O'Connor lost 23 lbs* | The Dolce Diet

“After returning from a vacation to Las Vegas I decided it was time I changed how I looked and to start feeling better about myself in my own body!
And not always thinking about my ‘flubber’ while at the pool or the beach.
At the time, I weighed approximately 180 lbs with no concept of body fat or what it meant. Prior to this, I was pretty active doing football to soccer, boxing and lifting weights. I never considered myself ‘fat’ but was never in the greatest shape. For the next four months I trained in HIIT circuits and attempted to do what I thought at the time was eating clean. In this period I reduced my weight to 170 lbs.
Then a friend at work had loaned a book from the library which turned out to be Living Lean . After a brief read I was intrigued. I started to research online and discovered the various testimonials not only from UFC superstars like Thiago Alves but from everyday average people like myself!
In November 2013 I weighed in at 147 lbs and had a body fat of around 12%
I had never been in better shape in 31 years!
Roll on another six months to May 2014 and after carrying a rotator cuff tear for four of these months I still maintained my weight of 147 lbs at 12% body fat with very little to no exercise.
