Daniel Cormier thanks Brock Lesnar for his early Christmas present

"Brock Lesnar got on the card and Brock's a huge draw. So right as Brock was getting announced, I was at UFC 199 with Luke Rockhold. I started hearing these rumors so I started texted Brock. I'm like, 'Hey, Brock are you fighting? Tell me please.' He didn't respond. So I wrote, 'Hey, Brock, is it Christmas time in the Cormier household?' because Brock sells pay-per-views, I am obviously one of the guys that gets pay-per-view dollars. And he goes, 'Merry Christmas.' That's all he wrote back," Cormier told the  "Opie and Jim Norton Show"  recently.

Sherdog’s Official Mixed Martial Arts Rankings - At Last

UFC 199 will not go down as the best Ultimate Fighting Championship event ever. By the time the last seven months of 2016 are over and done, it may not even be the greatest event of this year. No matter how the rest of the calendar plays out, however, UFC 199 will not soon be forgotten. Michael Bisping has spent just shy of a decade inside the Octagon, and for nearly all of his UFC tenure, onlookers questioned whether or not he would ever be granted a title shot, despite Zuffa’s desire to push the British star. When Bisping finally got his day in court, it came on two weeks’ notice against Luke Rockhold , a man who had handily dispatched him a year and a half prior. However, when “The Count” got his championship crack, he made it count. In under four minutes, Bisping landed the best strike of his career, dropping Rockhold with a beautiful left hook before knocking him out cold with picture-perfect punches on the follow-up. The Manchester, England, native has been a fixture in the rankings since September 2011, but now, he is the king of the middleweight division.

UFC 200 Betting Odds: Mark Hunt Opens as Near 2-to-1 Favorite to Beat Brock Lesnar

Hard-hitting heavyweight Mark Hunt has been installed as the bookmakers’ favorite to win his UFC 200 clash against former champ Brock Lesnar . Several sportsbooks released their opening lines for the bout on Monday afternoon, just hours after the matchup was announced . Hunt’s moneyline opened around -200 at most books, meaning a bet of $200 would net a profit of $100. The lowest line for a Hunt victory is currently -205 at, while the best-priced odds of -177 can be found at Hunt is currently riding a two-fight winning streak and most recently saw action in March, when he punched out former Lesnar nemesis Frank Mir in three minutes. Lesnar, who has not set foot inside the Octagon since December 2011, is currently being tabbed as the underdog. is offering a line of +167 for a Lesnar win -- meaning a $100 bet would net $167 profit -- while the lowest line is’s +155. Odds are even wider for the UFC 200 main event, where current UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is a +250 underdog to defend his belt against former divisional ruler Jon Jones .

The Savage Truth: Front Lines Forming in Ali Act Battle

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. When Representative Markwayne Mullin introduced his legislation to include the sport of mixed martial arts in the Ali Act, we knew it wouldn’t be long before the other shoe would drop. Last week, we learned that the UFC has hired a Washington D.C.-based lobbying firm to help them oppose the potential new federal regulations on MMA. I don’t think this was a surprise to anyone who has followed this fight for any period of time, but it did clearly delineate the company’s stance. In no uncertain terms, Zuffa LLC, the parent company of the UFC, wants no part of federal legislation of their business. They and other MMA promoters obviously have some problematic practices that could be called into question if the Ali Act extension makes it through Congress. There is the secretive financial information to which boxers are privy, to which MMA fighters have no right. Champion’s clauses, long-term contracts and likeness rights that some MMA promoters ask fighters to sign away all would be under greater scrutiny if this bill survives and becomes a law.

Manager: No One Deserves UFC Middleweight Title Shot More Than ‘Jacare’ Souza

Ronaldo Souza and those closest to him believe he is next in line to challenge for the Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight title. The two-time Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championships gold medalist won for the ninth time in 10 fights at UFC 198 on May 14, when he stopped Vitor Belfort with first-round punches in Curitiba, Brazil. Souza’s manager, Gilberto Farias, sees “Jacare” as the clear No. 1 contender at 185 pounds -- a division now ruled by Michael Bisping . Marketability, Farias claims, is no longer an issue. “People who say Jacare doesn’t deserve the title shot because he’s not popular in the United States are making a big mistake,” he told “Backstage at UFC 199, he was beside Nate Diaz taking pictures, and there more fans around him than Diaz, who just beat [Conor] McGregor. In shopping malls, at weigh-ins, whenever Jacare arrives, many fans come to talk to him.” “The growth of his popularity in Brazil also impressed me,” Farias added. “During UFC 198, fans started screaming ‘Uuuh vai morrer’ to Belfort.

31 Report: Kimbo Slice Hospitalized in Florida

Bellator MMA heavyweight Kimbo Slice was hospitalized in Florida on Monday, according to a report from . The report offers scant details but cites multiple unnamed sources who claimed “the situation does not look good.” Law enforcement officials reportedly confirmed to the website that Slice -- whose real name is Kevin Ferguson -- was admitted to a hospital near his home in Coral Springs, Florida. Slice, 42, is currently scheduled to face James Thompson in the main event of Bellator 158 , which takes place July 16 at London’s O2 Arena. The bout is a rematch of their infamous May 2008 scrap under the EliteXC banner; Slice won that match via third-round stoppage. Slice’s most recent appearance was on Feb. 19, when he recorded a late stoppage of Dhafir Harris -- a.k.a. “Dada 5000” -- at Bellator 149 . Harris spent more than a week in a Texas hospital after that bout, during which both men became exhausted and appeared on the verge of collapsing. The result was overturned last month after Slice was flagged for the anabolic steroid nandrolone, as well as elevated levels of testosterone.

Luke Rockhold questions the character of 'classless' Michael Bisping

I love the fight game and all that it offers. It's a chaotic world we live in but the reward far outweighs risk. Allowing the pressure of the situation get to me, I felt the need to preform and make a statement as opposed to staying calculated and winning the fight. I underestimated my opponent and paid for it. Forcing a fight that was unlike me, which left the door open. Credit to Micheal for being the tough guy that he is and capitalizing on the situation. Verbal warfare and fight hype is one thing, but that moment following the outcome of a fight is where a man's true character shines. After our first fight I picked him up off the canvas and gave him his due respect. Bisping went out of his way to come across the cage not to shake my hand like a man but to further mock the situation. I felt it was a classless move on his part. Thus the reason I was so pissed off at the press conference. I don't believe in kicking a man while he's down. I've been here before and I've always learned and grew from these situations. This will be no different. I will go home, heal up, and come back better than ever before.

RFA Champion Leandro Higo to Carry Olympic Torch in Brazil

Resurrection Fighting Alliance on Monday announced that bantamweight champion Leandro Higo will today carry the Olympic Torch when it passes through his hometown of Mossoro, Brazil. The 2016 Summer Olympics Torch Relay began April 21 and will conclude at the opening ceremony on Aug. 5. The torch embarked on its Brazilian journey on May 3 in the nation’s capital of Brasilia and will eventually arrive at Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. The Olympic Torch Relay is the relaying of the Olympic Flame from Olympia, Greece, to the site of an Olympic Games. The torch is carried by someone pertaining to sports, celebrity or the Olympics and then relayed to the next person. The relay continues uninterrupted until the torch finally makes its way to the site of where the Olympics for that year will officially begin. It was first performed at the 1936 Berlin Games and has taken place prior to every Games since. “I am proud to bear the name of Mossoro, I love representing my city,” stated Higo. “I am very happy and thrilled to know that I will carry the Olympic Torch.

The 2016 MMA National Olympic Teams: United States

With the 2016 Summer Olympics scheduled for Aug. 5-21 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, staff and contributors sat down to put together hypothetical MMA Olympic teams for the following countries: United States, Canada, Japan, Brazil, Russia, England, Mexico, Poland, Australia and Sweden. This 10-part series will map out the yellow brick road to Rio de Janeiro for the men and women who call the cage home, Zika virus be damned. *** Every four years, the global community gathers together in celebration of athletic competition in its purest form. In their 120-year history, the Olympics have provided the sports world -- people of all races, creeds and faiths -- with countless memories in which to revel. The United States has perhaps the richest history of any nation in the Summer Games. There was Jesse Owens winning four gold medals in Berlin in 1932, destroying the Nazis’ view of racial superiority as Adolf Hitler looked on; there was Jim Thorpe ruling the decathlon and pentathlon in 1912, Bob Beamon shattering the long jump record in 1962 and Michael Johnson’s breathtaking 200-meter run in downtown Atlanta in 1996; there was Cassius Clay in 1960, Mary Lou Retton in 1984, the Dream Team in 1992 and Rulon Gardner in 2000.

Opinion: Exploring the UFC 199 Narratives

What a night. Usually I’m more loquacious than that, but UFC 199 was so busy an intersection of storylines that it’s hard not to arrive at some clichéd platitude. The event in its entirety was one of the best pay-per-view cards in recent memory, and it was as great as it was with only a modest amount of star-power behind it. There’s something refreshing about the fact that a fight card can still stand out on its merits of fighting more than anything else, especially given the various change-ups UFC 199 experienced in the last few weeks. Each of the main card’s winners built themselves up in meaningful ways, and while I usually like to stick to a single theme for these columns, such a night warrants a bit of exploration for each of the narratives that emerged. 1. Poirer’s Resurgence In his 17th Zuffa appearance, Dustin Poirer had never looked better. He tied his Ultimate Fighting Championship winning streak record (four) with his first-round TKO victory over Bobby Green , and he has finished three of those four fights within a round.

Will Brooks makes UFC debut against Ross Pearson at TUF 23 Finale

A member of American Top Team in Florida, Brooks is currently riding a nine-fight win streak while becoming one of the most talked about lightweights outside of the UFC. Now he'll make his Octagon debut against a veteran in Pearson in July.

‘TUF 23’ Recap: Episode 9

After highlights from last week’s episode and some brief footage of the two teams training, Cory Hendricks walks gingerly into the gym and he seems to be a little bit better after seeing the doctor for his neck and shoulder injury. He won’t do any contact training at all to be safe and instead is doing mostly kicks and cardio. He is discouraged but soldiering on as this is the chance of a lifetime. Dana White is worried about him, too, and is just waiting for the results of his MRI to come in, but needs to warn the other available fighters to be ready to fill in just in case Hendricks can’t continue. In the next segment, Ashley Yoder is sitting around telling some of her housemates about how her brother was killed in a car wreck. She says that while she was driving on the highway, there was a motorcycle that was completely charred and there was a body with a sheet over it. Right then, she reveals, she knew in her gut that it was her brother who was under that sheet. She went to the hospital and found out for sure she details and, naturally, it’s a brutally-emotional time while she tells the story.

MMA Community Mourns Loss of Kimbo Slice

The mixed martial arts world today paused to remember the life and career of Kevin Ferguson , the man better known as “Kimbo Slice.” Slice died Monday at the age of 42, not long after he was reported to have been admitted to a hospital in Coral Gables, Florida. Under contract to Bellator MMA , he was scheduled to face Pride Fighting Championships veteran James Thompson in the Bellator 158 main event on July 16 in London. Born in the Bahamas, Slice grew up in Florida and gained Internet fame in 2003 when videos of his unsanctioned Miami street fights hit YouTube and other video-sharing websites. He parlayed his notoriety into a lucrative and ultimately successful MMA career, compiling a 5-2 career record inside the EliteXC, Ultimate Fighting Championship and Bellator promotions. Slice made what would turn out to be his final appearance at Bellator 149 on Feb. 19, when he scored a third-round technical knockout over fellow backyard brawler and former bodyguard Dhafir Harris . The result was later changed to a no-contest after Slice tested positive for steroids. Slice leaves behind a fiancée and six children.

This podcast has jumped to the top of my UFC/MMA podcast list - but c'mon, once a week?. I really feel like Brendan and Bryan should be able to do at least 2 eps a week, or maybe 2 hours a pop - I mean, what else do these guys have to do during the day? Brendan habitually mispronouncing every major UFC fighter's name on the roster is a nice touch, too. I also want to hear more about Bryan's mad greco skills. I think he should do each episode shirtless.
