Holly Holm finishes Bethe Correia with vicious head kick knockout at UFC in Singapore | FOX Sports

It’s a huge moment for Holm as she not only gets back on track but sends a not-so-subtle reminder to the best women’s bantamweights in the world that she’s still fully capable of pulling off that kind of fight ending power in any matchup. Given her win on Saturday, it’s hard to imagine Holm won’t jump right back into the deep end of the division with her next fight in the UFC.

Boxing: Andre Ward Stops Sergey Kovalev in Eighth to Retain Light Heavyweight Titles

#WardKovalev2 - Ward finishes the fight. What are your thoughts on the stoppage here? pic.twitter.com/xENuVEolpY — Jim Edwards (@MMA_Jim) June 18, 2017 Andre Ward proved to the world that he is not only the best light heavyweight in the world, but also the No.1 pound-for-pound boxer when he stopped rival Sergey Kovalev in the eighth round in Las Vegas. Ward (32-0, 16 KOs) fought tooth and nail with his Russian counterpart as they connected with powerful punches to the head and waged a war of attrition on the inside. Each round in the duel was as close as they come as Kovalev was largely the aggressor behind his jab while Ward landed scattered blows between constant clinching. Ward’s style frustrated “Krusher” early and often, reducing him to being able to land only single blows for much of the contest and slowly depleting his gas tank. With both men lumped up around the eyes in the eighth, Kovalev appeared to be coming on in the second half of the fight. But a wicked right hook to the stomach hurt Kovalev, who unsuccessfully protested to referee Tony Weeks that it was low.

Newcomer Amanda Ribas Removed From ‘TUF 25’ Finale Due to Anti-Doping Violation

Amanda Ribas will not make her Octagon debut at "The Ultimate Fighter 25” finale finale due to a potential anti-doping violation, the UFC announced Thursday. Ribas’ positive test stems from an out-of-competition sample collected on June 7. As a result, the 23-year-old Brazilian was removed from a proposed strawweight clash against Juliana Lima on July 7. The Las Vegas-based promotion is currently seeking a replacement opponent for Lima. As usual, USADA will handle results management and the appropriate adjudication of the case, and Ribas is entitled to a full legal process before any sanctions are imposed. Ribas has compiled a 6-1 mark since beginning her professional career in 2014. She has finished three of her wins by KO/TKO and two via submission. The “TUF 25” finale takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and is headlined by a lightweight showdown between Justin Gaethje and Michael Johnson . The evening’s main card airs on Fox Sports 1.

Watch all fights in HD on https://t.co/V2V4ODGbjJ pic.twitter.com/RLvfrW1Gw2 — M-1 Global (@M1GlobalNews) June 15, 2017 It didn’t take long for Sergei Kharitonov to prove who the better man was Thursday night against Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou . In fact, it happened so fast that the Russian powerhouse barely broke a sweat in the main event of M-1 Challenge 80 . With a packed house in Harbin, China, Kharitonov blasted his fellow Pride Fighting Championships alum with vicious punches to the head, knocking his foe out in just 38 seconds. Sokoudjou never had a chance to get anything going by the time “The Paratrooper” was all over him, wrecking his equilibrium and quickly turning out his lights. The co-featured bout was much more competitive as Ivan Buchinger and Timur Nagibin fought tooth and nail for nearly four rounds before the promotion’s featherweight champion was crowned. In the end, it was Buchinger who prevailed as he forced Nagibin to submit to a rear-naked choke at the 3:24 mark of the fourth.

Max Kellerman: Conor McGregor will not land a single punch on Floyd Mayweather | BJPenn.com

“I’m a great admirer of Conor McGregor’s not only technique but fighting spirit. As Dana White will tell you, you need to make a big event. A guy drops out last minute. McGregor, will you move up in weight to fight that guy? Sure. Let’s get it on. You want to do an immediate rematch? Damn right, I do. Love everything about McGregor that way and I love the way he promotes. I’m a big McGregor fan and if he had been boxing this whole time, maybe we’d be having a different story. But, you ain’t gonna pick it up in three or six months and hit Floyd. Let me tell you what’s going to happen, Conor McGregor will not land a single punch on Floyd Mayweather. Not one punch.”

UFC Fight Night 111 Bonuses: Holm, Sasaki, Li, Camacho Earn $50K Awards

It took her a while to get warmed up, but Holly Holm ’s patience paid off — literally. The former bantamweight queen earned a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus for her third-round knockout of Bethe Correia in the UFC Fight Night 111 headliner in Singapore on Saturday. After two slow-paced rounds, Correia taunted “The Preacher’s Daughter” and paid the price for it. Moments later, Holm floored her Brazilian foe with a beautifully-placed head kick and clinched the victory with a follow-up uppercut 1:09 into round three. Elsewhere, Yuta Sasaki captured the card’s other $50,000 “Performance of the Night” award for his come-from-behind triumph over Justin Scoggins in a preliminary flyweight tilt. Scoggins was in control early, suplexing his foe and flooring him with a left hand in round one. That dominance continued in the second stanza until Sasaki was able to sweep into mount, take his man’s back and secure a rear-naked choke to elicit a tapout at the 3:19 mark. Finally, Jingliang Li and Frank Camacho garnered “Fight of the Night” honors and $50,000 apiece for their preliminary welterweight duel.

Movie Star Jackie Chan Inspired Dmitry Bivol to Pursue Pro Boxing Career

One of the biggest fights the sport of boxing can deliver is happening Saturday night as Andre Ward will defend his light heavyweight world titles against the man he beat to win them: Sergey Kovalev. The pair will lock horns at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, but they aren’t the only terrific 175-pounders on the bill. Dmitry Bivol (10-0, 8 KOs) will fight in one of the featured televised undercard bouts and he’s ready to take the world by storm. A native of Kyrgyzstan, the 26-year-old prospect has been turning heads ever since he turned pro in late 2014. He’s set to fight Chicago-based veteran Cedric Agnew in a scheduler 10-round affair, and Bivol said he knows what to expect. “I know a lot about him because I’ve studied him and watched a lot of his fights,” Bivol told Sherdog.com in a recent interview. “I’ve seen his fight with Kovalev, of course. I think he’s going to be fast and try to counter and always move his positions. He’s very unpredictable when he fights.” Agnew (29-2, 15 KOs) was knocked out by Kovalev three years ago and then was bested on points by Samuel Clarkson.
