Geje Eustaquio, a One Championship Trendsetter

Geje Eustaquio started a trend, and if it continues, the Team Lakay representative will soon be crowned as One Championship ’s undisputed flyweight king. Eustaquio has fought in two rematches and emerged victorious in both, avenging a loss to Anatpong Bunrad in 2017 before defeating Kairat Akhmetov for the interim One Championship title in January. He will face reigning flyweight champion Adriano Moraes for a second time -- this time to unify the 125-pound belt -- in the One Championship “Pinnacle of Power” co-main event on June 23 at the Studio City Event Center in Macau, China. Moraes has already revealed his belief that this could represent his toughest title defense to date, perhaps aware of the improvements the challenger has made since their initial encounter in 2014. Eustaquio agrees. “Everything changed,” he said. “I became a better martial artist. I’m now more confident, and I have better timing, speed, [a] game plan and [the] ability to deal with tough situations.” Eustaquio has gone 4-3 in seven appearances since he submitted to a guillotine choke from Moraes, but two of those defeats resulted in split decisions.

The MMA Hall of F@#$%&g Awesome: Enson Inoue

Illustration: Ben Duffy/Sherdog.com Headquartered in scenic Woodloch, Texas, the Mixed Martial Arts Hall of [email protected]#$%&g Awesome commemorates the achievements of those fighters who might not be first-ballot selections for a traditional hall of fame but nonetheless did remarkable things in the cage or ring and deserve to be remembered. The HOFA enshrines pioneers, one-trick ponies and charming oddballs and celebrates them in all their imperfect glory. While the HOFA selection committee’s criteria are mysterious and ever-evolving, the final test is whether the members can say, unanimously and with enthusiasm, “____________ was [email protected]#$%&g awesome!” * * * “Blood is just red sweat.” -- Enson Inoue THE PITCH: Removed from context, some of the qualities that define Inoue might not sound like the components of awesomeness. In fact, many of them are traits we would -- and do -- snicker at in other fighters. He is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt who was perfectly content to stand and wing punches with fighters he could have tapped in his sleep.

Jorge Masvidal Eviscerates Neil Magny, Kamaru Usman While Looking for Fight

Jorge Masvidal is having trouble getting a fight, and now “Gamebred” is targeting every Top 5 welterweight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship in order to get one. Masvidal continued his campaign in eviscerating the entire welterweight division, taking aim at Kamaru Usman and Neil Magny in particular, all in an effort to finally get another fight. “ I’m going to get somebody at some point or another, whether it be a top-10 guy or not. Somebody’s face is going to get dismantled .” Gamebred hasn’t fought once yet this year after ending 2017 on a disappointing two-fight losing streak. However, one of those losses was a split decision defeat to perennial top five welterweight Demain Maia and the other was a decision loss to Stephen Thompson . Prior to those losses, Masvidal earned perhaps the biggest victory of his entire mixed martial arts career after stopping Donald Cerrone , snapping his four-fight winning streak and becoming the first man to beat him at 170 pounds. Masvidal and Magny have developed quite the feud lately, with Magny calling out the “unprofessional slob” back in May.

Beijos Big thanks to all my coaches, teammates, friends, family and specially this awesome lady @heatherlinden that helped me to fight with a strained ligament on my knee. A post shared by (@claudiagadelha) on Jun 10, 2018 at 5:39am PDT On Saturday night at UFC 225 , a strawweight bout between the Brazilian Claudia Gadelha and her longtime rival Carla Esparza finally came to fruition after two previous attempts between the pair were scrapped during their time with Invicta Fighting Championships . Although according to the Brazilian, there was almost another cancellation. Gadelha narrowly pulled out a win over Esparza on the weekend and revealed on Instagram that she strained a ligament in her knee less than two weeks out from the fight, but fought through the injury after withdrawing from the previous two scheduled fights. “I didn’t want to pull out of the fight, but on Monday of last week I strained a ligament knee and the posterior thigh muscle and went there to fight for you,” Gadelha wrote.

5 Things You Might Not Know About Angela Lee

As Angela Lee sits comfortably atop women’s mixed martial arts in One Championship , questions of how she fares against ladies from other top promotions arise. “Unstoppable” has already expressed her desire to move up a weight class, looking to become the first two-division women’s champion with the promotion. That also means being in the same weight division as Rose Namajunas , Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Michelle Waterson , who previously had something to say about her. Before any dream matchups are made, here are five things you might want to know about Lee. 1. She comes from a family of martial artists. Angela’s father, Ken Lee , is always seen walking out and cornering her in every fight. That isn’t just the usual show of parental support. Ken is her head coach and is a black belt in hap do sool, taekwondo, and jiu-jitsu. Angela’s mother, Jewelz, is also a black belt in hap do sool and taekwondo. Her brother, Christian, is likewise a One Championship title contender who fights at featherweight. A little brother and a little sister who both train in martial arts complete their tightly-knit family.

Dana White Addresses Greg Hardy Controversy: ‘Everybody Deserves a Second Chance’

Me and coach @billypadden working harder, hitting harder, and moving faster. I’m still a young #padawan and have much to learn but I am hungry A post shared by GregHardyJr (@greghardyjr) on May 30, 2018 at 1:06pm PDT On Tuesday, troubled former NFL star Greg Hardy will get a shot at earning an Ultimate Fighting Championship contract when he faces Austen Lane on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series. Hardy’s addition to the Series was controversial because of a checkered history with domestic violence. During his tenure in the NFL, Hardy was one of the top pass rushers in football, earning second-team all pro honors in 2013 with the Carolina Panthers after finishing with 15 sacks. However, in July 2014 Hardy was found guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend and missed the majority of the season after being placed on the commissioner’s exempt list. He was sentenced to 18 months’ probation, but charges from the case were later dropped, and Hardy’s record was expunged. Hardy was suspended for the first 10 games of the 2015 season as well, but that was later reduced to four games by an arbitrator, and Hardy finished the campaign with the Dallas Cowboys, although he remained a controversial figure throughout the season.

Matches to Make After UFC 225

Whether you approach him with love, hate or indifference, Colby Covington has entered a new competitive stratosphere in the Ultimate Fighting Championship . The polarizing American Top Team standout executed repeated takedowns and captured the interim welterweight title with a five-round unanimous decision over Rafael dos Anjos in the UFC 225 co-headliner on Saturday at the United Center in Chicago. All three cageside judges scored it for Covington, awarding him marks of 49-46, 48-47 and 48-47. Covington took down Dos Anjos seven times in the 25-minute battle: twice in the first round, twice in the second, once in the fourth and twice more in the fifth. It provided the difference in a fight that was otherwise closely contested. According to FightMetric figures, the top-shelf welterweights split the striking categories. Covington outlanded his counterpart 142-130 in total strikes, while dos Anjos held a narrow 105-99 margin in significant strikes. In the aftermath of UFC 225 “Whittaker vs. Romero 2,” here are five matches that ought to be made: Related » UFC 225: By the Numbers Colby Covington vs.

By the Numbers: UFC 225

The sequel was an instant classic. While Robert Whittaker outlasted Yoel Romero over five brutal rounds in the UFC 225 headliner on Saturday night, there were no losers in Chicago. Both combatants battled through adversity at various times to put on a memorable show, but it was reigning 185-pound king Whittaker who emerged with a contentious split-decision triumph. While “The Reaper” improved to 2-0 against his Cuban rival, nobody would complain if the middleweights squared off for a third time down the road. That, however, is a topic for another day. Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC 225, with statistics courtesy of FightMetric.com. Related » Matches to Make After UFC 225 9: Consecutive victories in the Octagon for Whittaker, the sixth-longest active winning streak in the UFC behind Demetrious Johnson (13), Georges St. Pierre (13), Max Holloway (12), Khabib Nurmagomedov (10) and Tony Ferguson (10). 239: Combined significant strikes landed by Whittaker (128) and Romero (111), a middleweight record for a five-round bout in the UFC.

UFC 225 Bonuses: Whittaker, Romero Garner ‘Fight of the Night’ Honors for Classic Battle

No title was at stake in the UFC 225 headliner, but you wouldn’t have known it from the way Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero fought at the United Center on Saturday night. Whittaker and Romero received “Fight of the Night” honors for their five-round war. However, due to Romero missing weight, Whittaker received the full $100,000 instead of splitting it with his Cuban foe. In a bout filled with momentum swings, Whittaker held on for a split-decision triumph, surviving knockdowns from Romero in round three and five in the process. While “The Reaper” improved to 2-0 against Romero, a trilogy bout wouldn’t be surprising considering the competitive nature of their first two meetings. Elsewhere, Curtis Blaydes garnered a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” check for his third-round technical knockout victory over former title challenger Alistair Overeem in a preliminary heavyweight clash. After controlling the contest through his wrestling, “Razor” Blaydes opened up and finished Overeem with a violent salvo of elbows at the 2:56 mark of the third round.

Ex-champ Rashad Evans, undecided on retirement, 'at peace' with KO loss

At one time FIGHTING was bigger than LIFE. Now LIFE is bigger than FIGHTING. It was easy to FIGHT for me because I came into this world raising hell FIGHTING. Then LIFE over time swaddled me like a parent does a screaming child and calmed me until I could see there was nothing to scream about. LIFE reveals to us all one day its beauty and its GRACE. Part of its beauty and GRACE is SURRENDER. Not SURRENDER in the way we think but a yielding nature that allows LIFE’S true beauty to be seen without non attachment. Only through non attachment can we truly see the beauty of LIFE and its random but beautiful balance. Our attachments in LIFE gives us the pain that make LIFE unbearable at times. Those attachments keeps us all pretending to some degree even though we are scared to death of what tomorrow can bring. I am at peace at what happened last night. I am a true FIGHTER at heart and there is no greater peace than when I get a chance to bare my soul for millions to see. 24 times I was successful and I experienced heights I never would’ve dreamed were possible and 8 times I came up short.

Sherdog’s Official Mixed Martial Arts Rankings - Magic Man

Whatever was left of the relative anonymity under which Marlon Moraes competed in the World Series of Fighting has disappeared. Moraes won for the 16th time in 17 appearances and planted his flag as a potential No. 1 contender in the Ultimate Fighting Championship bantamweight division, as he disposed of Jimmie Rivera with a first-round head kick and follow-up punches in the UFC Fight Night 131 main event on June 1 in Utica, New York. Rivera met his end 33 seconds into Round 1, his run of consecutive victories snapped at 20. Since debuting in the UFC with a contentious split decision defeat to Raphael Assuncao in June 2017, Moraes has gone 3-0, his knockout of Rivera preceded by wins over John Dodson and Aljamain Sterling . It puts the 30-year-old former WSOF champion on the doorstep to a title shot at 135 pounds, as the MMA world awaits the rematch between T.J. Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt on Aug. 4. For now, Moraes sits tight at No. 5 in the latest Sherdog.com divisional rankings. Meanwhile, four-time NCAA All-American wrestler Gregor Gillespie moved to 12-0 overall and 5-0 inside the Octagon, as he submitted Vinc Pichel with an arm-triangle choke in the second round of the UFC Fight Night “Rivera vs.

UFC Fight Night 131 Post-Mortem: Boom Goes the Dynamite

Marlon Moraes and Jimmie Rivera locked horns in the UFC Fight Night 131 main event, as the Ultimate Fighting Championship on Friday made its debut in Utica, New York. The Top-10 bantamweights had a long history of bad blood, so it was no shock when they passed on the touch of gloves once referee John McCarthy brought them to the center of the Octagon for final instructions. It did not take long for the fight to play out. A mere 30 seconds into the opening round, Moraes uncorked a thunderous switch kick that connected flush with Rivera’s temple and sent him crashing to the canvas. Moraes swarmed immediately and delivered a flurry of punches that finished job. In the blink of an eye, a feud that had been built for the better part of a year came to a dramatic close, and Moraes was staring at a possible shot at the UFC bantamweight title. Afterward, Moraes was gracious in victory, thanking his teammates and coaches before turning his attention to the winner of the forthcoming rematch between current bantamweight champion T.J.

Jon Jones vs. Brock Lesnar opening odds: 'Bones' is a very healthy betting favorite

While Lesnar is reportedly also under consideration to fight the winner of next month’s UFC 226 headliner between heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic (18-2 MMA, 12-2 UFC) and light-heavyweight titleholder Daniel Cormier (20-1 MMA, 9-1 UFC), there’s no doubt a Jones-Lesnar event would be a pay-per-view blockbuster – even if the current odds suggest it’d be a bit of a mismatch.

Robert Whittaker gives himself "50/50" chance in rematch with Yoel Romero | BJPenn.com

This weekend, in the main event of the absurdly stacked UFC 225 card, UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker will attempt to defend his title against the fearsome Yoel Romero. This bout will mark the pair’s second meeting, as Whittaker defeated Romero with a competitive, unanimous decision win a little less than a year ago.

Rafael Dos Anjos breaks silence following UFC 225

Hey guys. I want to thank you all for the messages and the support. I am a very competitive guy and I confess I never know how to handle defeat. I did my best inside the Octagon, I had the support of the best coaches in the world. The result was not mine, but nothing will make me give up. I am a challenge driven guy and this is just another one in my way. In 2014, after the fight against Khabib [Nurmagomedov], I worked very hard, and with God’s blessing, 11 months later I became the Lightweight champion. This time it won’t be any different. I got the chance to fight for the interim belt after only three fights in the welterweight division. My path in this weight class has just started. I know what I am capable of, I know what I can achieve. I won’t give up my dreams because of the first obstacle in this division. Now it’s time to see what did not work, improve, and get back to my path to the top. God knows everything. Bad guys win sometimes in real life, but at the end, the good guys always win. You can lose the battle, but never the war. Thank God I have the best friends and family I could ask for.
