Wanderlei Silva admits to taking diuretics; punishment for refused drug test to be discussed at later date
Speaking through his lawyer, Wanderlei Silva stated at Tuesday's Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) meeting that the reason he refused to undergo a random NAC sanctioned drug test on May 24 is because he was concerned that the test would show the presence of diuretics in his system, which he claims he began taking along with anti-inflammatories prescribed by a UFC doctor in order to help him recover from a fractured right wrist he suffered in February while coaching The Ultimate Fighter Brazil .

Joe Rogan and Friends
Joe Rogan:
“One of the most complex and exciting stand-ups working in America today. Like an idealistic hippy stuck inside the body of a testosterone-pumped US marine. He’s been likened to late great US comedians such as Bill Hicks and Sam Kinison, but although he exhibits a similar brand of furious indignation, his observations and revelations are entirely his own. His angry, insightful act is an absorbing battle between his raw libertarian instincts and his refined liberal sensibilities.”
--William Cook, The Guardian
A standup comedian for more than 20 years, Joe Rogan sells out theaters internationally with his inquisitive and intense comedic style. His third hour comedy special “Joe Rogan: Live from the Tabernacle” was released in December 2012 via his website. Rogan previously starred in two hour long specials, “Talking Monkeys in Space” (2009) now available on CD & DVD and “Joe Rogan Live” (2007) now available on DVD, and released the CD’s “Shiny Happy Jihad” (2007) and “I’m Gonna Be Dead Someday” (2000).

Wanderlei Silva Admits to Using Banned Substance, Dodging Random Drug Test
Wanderlei Silva's fate remains undecided following Tuesday's NAC
hearing. | Mike Sloan/Sherdog.com
As it drew near, Tuesday’s Nevada Athletic Commission meeting was
shaping up to something of a major event.
As he has done on numerous occasions with the
Pride Fighting Championships and the
UFC , Wanderlei
Silva was the headliner. It was a far less comfortable
environment for “The Axe Murderer” than the cage or ring.
Silva said very little during the hearing, which was streamed via
UFC Fight Pass. Instead, it was attorney Ross Goodman who spoke on
behalf of the fighter, revealing that the Brazilian intentionally
eluded a random, out-of-competition drug test on May 24 out of fear
that he would test positive for a diuretic being used to treat a
wrist injury suffered in February.
“Back in back in February of this year, at ‘The Ultimate Fighter
Brazil,’ [Silva] injured his wrist,” Goodman said. “He was
prescribed by the UFC doctors anti-inflammatories. He was scheduled
to fight on a May card; early in May he was x-rayed and confirmed
that he had in fact fractured his right wrist.
