Anderson Silva cleared to spar, but UFC return not on the horizon yet
"He has to start slowly. It still is really hard for him to work on that," he said. "He feels unsafe now, maybe sees some images on his head, so we can’t demand too much from him right now. That’s the toughest barrier to overcome. He will only lose this fear with training, and then he will know if he’s ready to fight or not. That’s absolutely normal."

Too Bad! Dana White says Demetrious Johnson will likely face John Dodson next, whether he likes it or not
"He (Johnson) looked amazing and he looks better every time he fights. He's a guy that's building a division. He's building that division for us. I love the Johnson-Dodson fight. Too bad if Demetrious doesn't like that fight, that's the fight he's probably looking at. No doubt about it, that is (potentially) one of the premier match-ups in the UFC this year."

Guts. The operative word of sports. We hear it from Little League on up, regardless of how far our athletic abilities take us. Even in the workplace of an over indulgent PC atmosphere, ‘guts’ to stay the course; to stay longer and work harder than the next person, is an evergreen enticer.

Melvin Manhoef feeling right at home in Glory's last man standing tourney
Manhoef is coming off of a first round knockout in April of Evangelista Santos in Rio de Janeiro. That was an MMA fight. His last kickboxing bout was against Zabit Samedov in Moscow last November (a narrow decision loss). Like Tyrone Spong , Manhoef doesn’t mind going back and forth between kickboxing and MMA. In fact, his manager Jorge Guimaraes made it public recently that Manhoef would like to compete in the UFC before his fighting days are over. When asked which he preferred, MMA or kickboxing, Manhoef said it’s apples to apples. "Everybody’s asking me this question, but it’s like asking, ‘who do you love more, your mom or your father?’ It’s the same, it’s fighting," he said. "I like the fight game. I cannot choose between kickboxing and MMA. I am good at both. If asked to choose, I cannot. "The number one goal now is focusing on Glory. That’s the number one goal at the moment. I have fought everywhere all over the world, in every organization, but I never fought in the UFC. It would be nice to be one time also in the Octagon…I’m a free agent now so it doesn’t matter.
Jon Fitch Blasts Rousimar Palhares: "It's Unprofessional... You Do Your Job" | MMAWeekly.com

Women's MMA pioneer, former UFC fighter Rosi Sexton retires
Before the UFC added a women's bantamweight division, Sexton was already contemplating retirement despite a stellar 13-2 record. Those two losses came only to Gina Carano and former Bellator women's champion Zoila Frausto Gurgel. In the UFC, Sexton was fighting heavier than her natural weight class and lost to Alexis Davis and Jessica Andrade.
Nam Phan booked for Grandslam MMA show in Japan, indicating end to UFC tenure
I can't say this is particularly surprising after that whipping against Lee, but in the long-term I really have concern for Phan's health. Not that all significant strikes carry the same weight, but in his UFC career (per FightMetric), Phan has absorbed 870, which averages out to about 109 per fight. But the more telling statistic is the scoring of his defeats. For as much as MMA judges are decidedly hesitant to score rounds 10-8, Phan has had at least one judge score a 10-8 against him in 4 of his 6 losses. The Jim Hettes fight was scored 30-25, 30-25, and 30-26, and the Dennis Siver annihilation stands as the most lopsided point differential in the history of three-round UFC fights (30-24, 30-25, and 30-26 make for a 15 point difference). He's not just been losing, he's routinely been thoroughly dismantled without the mercy of a referee (or corner) stoppage.
Doctor clears Anderson Silva to spar, says they ‘have to work on his mind and get rid of the mental block’
"It would be really premature to say something now, he hasn't even sparred yet," Dr. Tannure said. "His recovery was great, but now we have to work on his mind and get rid of the mental block. It could take a while, maybe not. It would be really hard to say right now he can or can't fight this year. It's not the moment, and he's the one that is going to feel it.
Anderson Silva cleared for sparring six months after breaking leg
UFC president Dana White has not been firm on Silva's potential return date, saying it could be in the beginning of next year or even December. If the UFC had its choice, it would probably pick its huge, annual year-end card in Las Vegas -- the same one Silva broke his leg at last year against Weidman.
Louis Gaudinot Fails Drug Test, March 8 Win Over Phil Harris Changed to No Contest
Louis Gaudinot is currently serving a six-month suspension. |
Gaudinot tested positive for a diuretic following his victory
UFC Fight Night “Gustafsson vs. Manuwa” on March 8.
As a result, Gaudinot was suspended for six months retroactive to
the bout, and his victory over Harris was changed to a no contest.
“The Ultimate Fighter 14” alum was not fined.
Sherdog.com confirmed the news with a UFC official on Friday.
Yourmma.tv initially reported the results, stating that
Gaudinot tested positive for the diuretic hydrochlorothiazide.
Gaudinot made short work of Harris in the Octagon at the O2 Arena
in London, submitting his foe with a guillotine choke 1:13 into the
opening frame of their flyweight clash. The former Ring of Combat
champion now owns just one victory in four promotional appearances,
a second-round submission of John
Lineker at UFC on Fox 3.
Meanwhile, it appeared that Harris had been released from the UFC
when Cage Warriors Fighting Championship announced that he would be
appearing on one of its cards shortly after the defeat.

Fitch says Palhares 'disrespectful,' believes WSOF champ should 'man up' and defend belt
Fitch admitted to MMAjunkie that his willingness to fight Palhares has changed now that the controversial athlete holds the WSOF championship belt. But Fitch still isn’t a Palhares fan, and he actually seems a little bit more discontent that the champ is sitting out the company’s NBC debut, even if it is to tend to an ailing mother.

Hindsight: The massive UFC event redux
Okay so, I've tried to keep picking winners for all the recent events, whether I was able to watch them or not. Life has been a bit hectic, availability has been low, free time has been at an absolute premium. So, now I'm catching up. Unfortunately I still haven't seen everything from the past month. In fact, I've entirely missed Fight Night: Henderson vs. Khabilov, so don't expect me to talk much about it here, but for the fights I did see, I'll give a brief overview of my thoughts based on my pre-fight expectations and picks.

Mike Constantino wants Cage Fury to become 'No. 1 regional promotion in America'
“Me being a manager and a trainer, I don’t have any visions of grandeur that we can compete with the UFC,” Constantino said. “I realize all the top fighters want to get to the UFC, so what I want to do is provide a platform for them to get to the next level. When the time comes that they’re ready to go, we release them to the UFC no questions asked. Even over the last three months we’ve had three of our current champions who we released to the UFC.”

UFC, Bellator Veteran Rosi Sexton Announces Retirement at 36
“The Surgeon” Sexton is hanging up her gloves after a 12-year
career. | Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com
Sexton ’s fighting days are done.
The UFC and Bellator veteran Thursday announced her decision to
step away from MMA via her website . The move
comes on the heels of a June 7 knockout loss to Joanna
Jedrzejczyk at Cage
Warriors 69 , Sexton’s third consecutive defeat.
The 36-year-old “Surgeon” twice fought under the UFC banner in
2013, losing both outings via decision. Her bout against Jessica
Andrade at UFC Fight Night “Machida vs. Munoz” was particularly
ugly, as Sexton took an exorbitant amount of damage over the course
of three rounds, leaving many fans and pundits to question the
Englishwoman’s continued participation inside the Octagon.
In a blog post, Sexton gave some insight as to how she reached her
decision and what the future holds.
“The bottom line -- right now I have more to offer the sport
outside the cage than inside it,” Sexton wrote. “I don’t want to
give up on being the fighter I believe I’m capable of; but there
are bigger things going on.

Split Decision: Were the punishments of Jason High too harsh?
High knew what he did was wrong and he apologized immediately afterward. A six-month suspension seems about right considering he would miss at least one maybe even two fights during that time line and for a fighter that's half a year's salary. But to suspend him for a year and give him a lifetime ban from the promotion for this incident? Not only is it harsh, it's out of bounds. One last point, while the UFC has instituted a new "code of conduct" policy, there are no set rules for the fighters when it comes to punishment for any particular offense. Sometimes it's a fine, sometimes it's an arbitrary suspension, and other times it's nothing. As bad as what High did in the heat of the moment, do you think if his name was Jon Jones the punishment would have been the same?
