Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series Debut Event to Feature Trio of UFC Vets

The lineup is official for the first iteration of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, and there are some familiar faces on the card. Former Octagon talents Joby Sanchez , Justin Jones and Kurt Holobaugh will all compete at the event, which takes place on July 11 in Las Vegas and airs on UFC Fight Pass at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. Sanchez, who went 1-2 during a brief UFC stint from August 2014 to Dec. 2015, will face Manny Vazquez in a flyweight contest. The 25-year-old Sanchez has earned back-to-back triumphs on the regional circuit since exiting the UFC after a second-round TKO loss to Geane Herrera at “The Ultimate Fighter 22” finale. Vazquez is 11-2 as a professional and last appeared at Bellator 175, where he earned a unanimous verdict over Nate Williams . “This means a lot to me because I have already been cut from the UFC before, and now I have this opportunity to fight again and continue on my road to becoming UFC flyweight champion,” Sanchez said in a release. Meanwhile, Jones will square off with Charles Byrd in a middleweight scrap.

‘TUF 25’ Recap: Episode 10

Wednesday’s episode begins with T.J. Dillashaw sporting his new “Killashaw” T-shirts, jokingly embracing the snake moniker his bitter rival Cody Garbrandt has given him. When Dillashaw and his team meet up with Team Garbrandt in the hallway, T.J. hisses at him and tries to be the funny guy. “No Love,” as expected, isn’t playing games and immediately berates him for his behavior. The teams are now in the gym for Jesse Taylor and Hayder Hassan to weigh-in, but the coaches start jawing at each other. Per the norm, Team Garbrandt’s coaches rail into Dillashaw for -- shocker -- leaving Team Alpha Male . Justin Buchholz is the primary instigator in this verbal skirmish, but cooler heads prevail and there is no riot. However, while Hassan and Taylor are weighing in, “No Love” and Dillashaw begin jawing at each other even more, calling each other names like they’re in the schoolyard, which completely takes away from tonight’s combatants’ weigh-ins. It takes James Krause to stand up and shout to the coaches to, “Shut your fu**ing mouths and let them weigh in!” The editing team wastes no time at all and quickly moves on to the fight.

Sherdog Prospect Watch: Aaron Pico

Aaron Pico has spent the last 16 years of his life with one focus: combat. The 20-year-old Whittier, California, native has been touted as one of the top prospects to enter mixed martial arts in recent memory, and one look at his resume shows why. Pico started his combat sports career in wrestling at age 4 after a casual outing with his family. “My older brother and I were go-karting, and the shoes that they were wearing were wrestling shoes,” Pico told Sherdog.com. “My dad looked up the local wrestling club, and that next week, he took me to practice and that is how I started.” Pico found early success in wrestling and burst onto the national scene when he was 8 years old. It was during his time in wrestling that he discovered a passion for other sports. One of them was boxing. “The gym I wrestled at had a ring in it, and if we practiced hard enough, we would be able to put on the gloves and fight,” Pico said. “That is when I learned that my boxing was horrible, so I asked my dad if I could learn how to box.” Pico’s father asked a neighbor, who happened to be a muay Thai fighter, if he could train his son.

Source: Dakota Cochrane to Fight Maki Pitolo in VFC 58 Headliner on July 22

Victory Fighting Championship is set to invade Baxter Arena in Omaha, Nebraska, on Saturday, July 22 and a pair of welterweights are slated to clash in a pivotal showdown. According to a source close to the promotion, longtime veteran Dakota Cochrane will square off against rising contender Maki Pitolo in the main event of VFC 58 , which will be streamed live on UFC Fight Pass. Cochrane has been fighting professionally for nearly a decade. He rose to prominence when he was beaten in the elimination round of The Ultimate Fighter 15. From there, he bounced around the regional circuit, racking up several wins before signing with Titan Fighting Championships . After a win for that promotion, Cochrane spent the bulk of his career for the now-defunct rection-Fighting-Alliance-4265">Resurrection Fighting Alliance, where he challenged for the inaugural lightweight title. The Nebraska native, who also fought for Bellator MMA , has won his last four, three via submission. Though he struggled a bit out of the gate when he turned pro, Pitolo has been on a tear.

Phil Davis Plans on Beating Ryan Bader ‘So Bad There Won’t Be a Need for Third Fight’

The first meeting between Phil Davis and Ryan Bader was a closely contested bout that could have gone either way, but “Mr. Wonderful” doesn’t plan on leaving anything to chance in their rematch. The light heavyweights initially squared off at UFC on Fox 14 in January 2015, with Bader edging Davis via split decision. Meanwhile, media scorecards tracked by MMADecisions.com were nearly split as well, as seven favored Bader, five saw the fight for Davis and one scored the contest a draw. They will meet again in the Bellator 180 featured bout on Saturday at Madison Square Garden, with Davis defending his 205-pound belt against the Power MMA Team product. The Bellator 180 main card airs on Spike at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, just prior to the promotion’s pay-per-view offering at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. “It’s all about getting that ‘W,’” Davis recently told Sherdog.com. “He got the first one. He’s not gonna have a leg to stand on in the second fight. I’m gonna beat him so bad there won’t be a need for a third fight.” In their first meeting, Bader, a two-time All-American wrestler at Arizona State University, defended all nine of the takedowns attempted by Davis, a four-time All-American at Penn State University.

Eddie Ramirez Edges Erick Bone Via Puzzling Split Decision in PBC on FS1 Main Event

Eddie Ramirez improves to 17-0 with split decision victory (93-97, 97-93, 97-93) over veteran Erick Bone tonight on #PBConFS1. #RamirezBone pic.twitter.com/9mu7X8AjXR — PBC (@premierboxing) June 21, 2017 Welterweight contender Eddie Ramirez kept his unblemished professional record intact Tuesday night at Sam’s Town Gambling Hall in Las Vegas as he edged Erick Bone over 10 rounds. The pair collided in the main event of the latest edition of PBC on FS1’s “Toe-To-Toe Tuesdays” but the fight was nowhere as close as the official scores would indicate. Ramirez (17-0, 11 KOs) moved well in the bout and peppered his foe repeatedly with timely counters that were set up behind a stiff jab. While Bone had his moments in the fight, it was the Chicago native who controlled the pace. Ramirez racked up round after round by landing the far cleaner, more telling blows but Bone was active in every round. When the smoked cleared, two of the judges had the fight scored in favor of Ramirez 97-93. However, the third official inexplicably had the identical score for Ecuador’s Bone (16-5, 8 KOs), who has no lost four in a row.

Weekend Fight Odds: Chael Sonnen, Matt Mitrione Slight Favorites at Bellator NYC

This weekend will be loaded with all sorts of caged mayhem as the world’s two biggest MMA promotions will be hosting events, both of which will be overflowing with intriguing matchups. On Saturday night, Bellator will put on its biggest event ever as the promotion will take over Madison Square Garden in New York for the first time. Then on Sunday, the UFC will invade Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City with UFC Fight Night 112 . With so many bouts to watch, it’s always great to have a seemingly endless supply of possible wagers at one’s fingertips. With some of the biggest names in the sport set to be in action, a savvy bettor can rake in some extra dough for wagering intelligently via the myriad sportsbooks that are available. MMA villain Chael Sonnen will finally fight arch rival Wanderlei Silva in the main event of Bellator 180 on Saturday, and the American sits as a slight betting favorite at -150. Silva, meanwhile, is in the rare underdog spot at +120. Longtime Pride emperor Fedor Emelianenko will collide with former UFC veteran Matt Mitrione and the fight is nearly a pick ‘em with Mitrione barely a favorite at -120 to Emelianenko’s -110.

Michael Chandler Would Love to ‘Welcome’ Joseph Duffy to Bellator MMA

There is a general sense of excitement amongst the Bellator MMA fighters that will compete in the second pay-per-view in the promotion’s history this Saturday night at the iconic Madison Square Garden venue. It is fitting that Michael Chandler , probably the most loyal fighter Bellator boasts on its roster, is set to defend his lightweight title against Brent Primus in what he believes is the biggest event in the promotion has ever staged. “It’s definitely the biggest card Bellator has ever put on,” said Chandler. “They’ve got the most amount of big names assembled on one card for this Madison Square Garden show. “This is a milestone for me too; this will be my 20th professional fight. I couldn’t have scripted it better to have my 20th fight at the world’s most iconic arena, Madison Square Garden. “I’m excited to get there. I’m excited to get out to New York City and feel the vibe out there.” Chandler’s fights with Eddie Alvarez and Ben Henderson were widely praised by the international mixed martial arts community.
