At the end of that period, both the specialist and Nate’s primary doctor agreed his levels really were low and he was a candidate for replacement therapy. Nate’s primary doctor injected him with testosterone to quickly get his levels back up in time for his scheduled fight against Story. The Pennsylvania commission had set standards for what his testosterone levels could be at fight time and Nate’s levels, though trending down over the last week before the fight, still failed to fall to within the range required in time for him to be cleared to fight. Nate claimed that he retook tests on the day of the fight and was actually within qualifying limits, thus having his suspension lifted by the commission.

Three of the biggest stars in Japanese mixed martial arts history will return for UFC's Sept. 20 show at the Saitama Super Arena in what is scheduled to be the most star-loaded show to date on Fight Pass. Takanori Gomi (35-9, 1 no contest), Norifumi "Kid' Yamamoto (18-6, 1 no contest) and Yoshihiro Akiyama (13-5, 2 no contests) all return on a show that has already announced a heavyweight slobberknocker with Roy Nelson (21-9) vs. Mark Hunt (9-8-1) as the main event. Gomi, "The Fireball Kid" was the star lightweight in Pride from 2004-07 during the Japanese MMA heyday. He's the only one of the three who has remained active in recent years, coming off a decision win over Isaac Vallie-Flagg at UFC 172 on Apr. 26, which got Fight of the Night honors. Yamamoto and Akiyama have been absent from the sport for lengthy periods of time. Running was a place where I could clear my thoughts and fill my mind simultaneously. It was active meditation, opium for a hyperactive mind, a place to reflect on the past and strategize for the future. It was the first place that I found to push myself beyond limits I knew possible, the moment maybe when I was first seduced by excess. The first place that my competitive spirit could flourish, and get to the bottom of just who really is better at something, mano-a-mano. By age eight I had secured my first real bonafide arch nemesis. I went to a summer camp as a child, called East Hill, and every day there was an hourly activity called Outdoor Games. Every day at Outdoor Games we would footrace, and most every day I would win. Every day that is, unless childhood friend and future FSU standout cornerback Ochuko Jenije was there. We come across people in life at times that push us, that motivate us and challenge us. The burden lies on us to use these people as they come and go, and more often than not these people never have a clue the effect that they’ve had, and this may be one of those.

Thing is, though, here’s where I’d be wondering what I’m getting for my money as a UFC Fight Pass subscriber. This is the only Fight Pass event in the month of June, which makes it essentially a $10 pay-per-view. That might not be so bad when you’re getting Alexander Gustafsson or Gegard Mousasi or even Roy Nelson. But this? This is a card a lot fans wouldn’t wake up (or stay up) for if it were free on FOX Sports 1. It’s reasonable to ask what you’re getting for your money at this point, and why the UFC doesn’t seem more concerned with making sure it’s a transaction fans are pleased with.

UFC stacking upcoming Saitama card with hometown talent
Last time the UFC came to Japan, it was for UFC on Fuel TV : Silva vs. Stann. It was a great fight card, that featured a lot of fighters from the Land of the Rising Sun. But, by far the biggest fan favorite names on the card were Wanderlei Silva and Mark Hunt . Both very popular in Japan from their Pride heydays, but not quite "hometown" stars. This time around it looks like the UFC is going to stack the deck as much as possible, to feature both longtime and new Japanese talent. Of course Mark Hunt will still be there, headlining the show, but MMA Fighting reveals that the UFC is has booked a few of their dormant stars as well.
