UFC Fight Night 43 results: Charles Oliveira becomes first to stop Hatsu Hioki

Oliveira looked for a quick takedown, but Hioki stayed upright and tried a flying triangle choke. He couldn’t hang on, and Oliveira’s response was to go after a standing guillotine. Oliveira landed a takedown, then went straight into a D’Arce choke. But Hioki turned it around and took Oliveira’s back. He kept the fight on the ground, but with a little more than 90 seconds left in the round, Oliveira got back to his feet.

UFC Fight Night 43 results: Gian Villante takes split call from Sean O'Connell

After a minute of reasonably paced back-and-forth, O’Connell landed a big-time left hand that planted Villante on the canvas. But he popped quickly back to his feet and fired back. The two again clinched for a bit before Villante circled off and back to the middle. O’Connell landed a couple solid punches with a minute left in the round. And though Villante landed a good punch to the body late, O’Connell’s knockdown probably won him the frame.

Pat Miletich will be the next UFC Hall of Fame inductee (Updated)

“Miletich is a guy who contributed to this,” White said. “At the time when we bought this company, Miletich had probably the biggest and the best camp in the entire sport. At that time, Pat’s camp was huge, and all the top guys came out of Miletich. … A guy like Miletich could (be in the UFC Hall of Fame).”

Organic Pesticides: Not An Oxymoron

Gillman says just because an organic farmer used some authorized chemicals is no reason to shun the food. But it's important for consumers to know what's going on. For him, the answer to the ambiguity around organic labeling is to go local. "I go to the farmers market and talk to the growers to see who is serious about reducing pesticide use," he says. "I'd rather buy food from someone who used Roundup once than someone who uses organic pesticides all the time."

Rich Franklin Interview: Talks About One More UFC Fight

Rich:  Yes, the way that things played out with those 3 guys testing positive for performance enhancing drugs; you know my reaction to the whole thing was, to describe it in one word – “Wow”. That is the kind of stuff that happens only in movies. But I think that Chael did the right thing by retiring after that.  I don’t know how old Chael is right now. I know he is in his upper 30s’, maybe nearing 40s’, but it’s difficult at this age to keep up. The difficulty is that, when I was 20 years old, I could go into the gym and train, train really really hard and if my buddy would call me to help him move his couch, I would go help him move his couch and whatever; do that and go back into the gym and train a second time. Now, I can go and train in the gym like I am 20 years old, which I do but after that workout I have to go home and sleep. I am not running errands or helping friends or any of that kind of stuff. Now the body needs more time to recover at this age and that is a scientific fact, and that’s something all the fighters are experiencing, including myself. That makes me wonder how many fighters are there in the UFC, or MMA in general, are doing this when you have some fighters who are abiding by the rules and others that are not and these are the issues you have to deal with in the fight game.

Don Frye breaks down UFC 175, and the facial hair is BACK!

When Don Frye shaved his mustache off earlier this year, physicists had to abandon entire textbooks full of scientific theory since it was widely thought the universe couldn't handle a mustache-less Don Frye. Regardless of galactic ramifications, Don Frye did shave his mustache off and the planet is still somehow revolving around the Sun. Perhaps this supports multi-verse theory in that there could be a universe out there that completely collapsed due to Don Frye's mustache departing his face and thus destabilizing all there is.

Cub Swanson, Jeremy Stephens overcame tough upbringings to reach UFC spotlight

Swanson has won five fights in a row and Stephens three straight. Both have reached the elite of the UFC's featherweight division and one will be the No. 1 contender for a title shot after Saturday night (FOX Sports 1, 10 p.m.). It would have been easy for neither one of them to end up here. Many who dealt with their situations wouldn't be.

Matches to Make After UFC Fight Night ‘Te Huna vs. Marquardt’

Nate Marquardt looked lost at 170 pounds, and a return to more familiar haunts paid immediate dividends. Back in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s middleweight division for the first time in more than three years, Marquardt was in vintage form, as he submitted hard-punching Kiwi James Te Huna with a first-round armbar in the UFC Fight Night “Te Huna vs. Marquardt” main event on Saturday at Vector Arena in Auckland, New Zealand. Te Huna asked out of the match 4:34 into round one, his debut at 185 pounds spoiled in painful fashion. Marquardt in victory halted the first three-fight losing streak of his career, reaffirmed his place on the UFC roster and perhaps provided the rest of the middleweight division with another menacing threat to consider. In wake of UFC Fight Night “Te Huna vs. Marquardt,” here are half a dozen matchups that ought to be considered: Nate Marquardt vs. Brad Tavares-Tim Boetsch winner: Marquardt showed off the diverse skill set that has allowed him to enjoy sustained success as a mixed martial artist, as he took care of the much-larger Te Huna.

UFC Fight Night ‘Te Huna vs. Marquardt’ Bonuses: Oliveira, Marquardt Nab $50k Performance Awards

Charles Oliveira’s submission of Hatsu Hioki was a thing of beauty. | Josh Hedges/Zuffa LLC/Getty Images Charles “do Bronx” Oliveira showed once again that he has one of the most dangerous ground games in the Ultimate Fighting Championship . The Macaco Gold Team standout took home a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus for his second-round modified Peruvian necktie of Hatsu Hioki at UFC Fight Night “Te Huna vs. Marquardt.” It marked Hioki’s first submission loss in 36 professional mixed martial arts bouts. Nate Marquardt also picked up a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus with an impressive display of technique. The former Strikeforce welterweight champion made good on his return to the middleweight division with a first-round armbar of James Te Huna . The win snapped a three-fight losing streak for Marquardt. Also claiming bonus money were Gian Villante and Sean O'Connell , who both grabbed $50,000 for their combined efforts in a bout named “Fight of the Night” by UFC brass. Villante was awarded the split decision following three hard-fought rounds.

Ronda Rousey on Sara McMann: 'I don't think she really wanted' to be UFC champ

"When it comes down to it, when it comes to the day that you're fighting, you could have avoided the cameras all that you want," Rousey said. "But they're in there in that locker room with you, and they're in your face while you're walking out. And they're filming you when you're fighting. And so of all the preparation that you've done that had no cameras involved, when they are involved, it's not going to be the same. A lot of people aren't going to want that and aren't ready for it and they're not going to enjoy it."

UFC Fight Night 44's Hacran Dias gets cheat sheet from Aldo for Lamas fight

Dias (21-2-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC), though, is the second straight opponent to hail from Brazilian supercamp Nova Uniao, which means he’s gotten the inside track on Lamas (13-3 MMA, 4-1 UFC) for their main-card fight at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 44 at AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Hiromasa Ogikubo, Czar Sklavos Advance to Flyweight Tourney Final at VTJ 5th

In a week where Vale Tudo Japan made headlines with a newly signed UFC partnership, the Japanese promotion also brought its show to Osaka for the semifinals of its ongoing 125-pound tournament. “VTJ 5th in Osaka” took place Saturday at Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium, marking the organization’s first foray outside the Greater Tokyo Area. The main winners on the night were Hiromasa Ogikubo and Czar Sklavos , who booked their spots in the flyweight tourney final. Ogikubo preserved Japanese pride by ensuring at least one local fighter reached the final phase of the competition when he submitted Kana Hyatt with a rear-naked choke early in the opening round. After a brief exchange of leg kicks, the former Shooto 132-pound champion shot for a double-leg takedown which the Hawaiian was able to stuff. Ogikubo cleverly transitioned to take Hyatt’s back, drag him to the canvas and force the tap at the 1:20 mark. In the second semifinal, Sklavos put on a virtuoso striking display to dominate Ryuichi Miki , who seemed to rapidly run out of ideas as he was picked apart by the American’s constant punch output and quick-fire combinations.

With MMA's lack of young, ranked big men, Jared Rosholt laments decision win

“But people don’t understand, this is a guy that’s on an 11-fight win streak that’s just tore people apart these last couple of fights. So he’s a very tough guy. There were a lot of Australian fighters on this card, and when he walked out and it just erupted, I’m like, ‘Alright, he’s got a lot of support here.’ It was a tough fight, but I feel like I’ve shown what I can do. I’m still young in this sport. I’m 27, and I’m moving up.”

UFN 43 winner Nate Marquardt: 'I wasn't getting the right training' at welterweight

“My training was suffering because of the diet,” Marquardt told MMAjunkie after the UFC Fight Pass-streamed event, which took place at Auckland’s Vector Arena in Te Huna’s home country of New Zealand. “I wasn’t getting the right training. I wasn’t able to recover from workouts, and I definitely think the cut the week of the fight was affecting me in the fight.

"(Nik) Lentz surprised me with the takedowns and I couldn’t fight until the third round, when I started to get comfortable I almost finished him, but it was too late.
