Another pivotal heavyweight clash has been added to Sept. 10’s UFC 203 bill in Cleveland. Headlined by new UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic ’s first defense against Alistair Overeem , the card will also feature Fabricio Werdum versus Ben Rothwell . The promotion revealed the pairing Sunday night during FS1's UFC Fight Night “Almeida vs. Garbrandt” broadcast. Werdum (20-6) lost the heavyweight title to Miocic on May 14 at UFC 198 via first-round knockout. The 38-year-old has never dropped back-to-back fights in a career that has spanned 14 years. Rothwell, 36-10, will also hope to bounce back from defeat as he was handedly outpointed by Junior dos Santos on April 10 at UFC Fight Night “Rothwell vs. Dos Santos.” The loss put an end to a four-fight winning streak that saw the Wisconsin native become the first man to submit Josh Barnett and a knockout of the aforementioned Overeem.

Uda circles off the fence and lands another knee to the face but Collier answers with a clean spinning back fist. We pause to retrieve Collier's mouthpiece with Uda marching into the clinch on the restart. Collier circles off and goes for a trip that Uda initially stops with a whizzer, but eventually succumbs to. Uda goes to deep half guard but doesn't have the position to sweep. Uda gets full guard and Collier buries his head in the chest, then lands a left. Uda angles for an armbar but it's not there. Good wrist control from Uda, who kicks the chest to clear space, then rolls out backwards. Collier over-commits when pursuing him, and Uda can't keep back control but finishes the round on top. 10-9 Uda.

Vegas Talking Points: Garbrandt, Stephens, Caraway and more

Cody Garbrandt let out a ferocious scream as he stepped into the Octagon to take on fellow undefeated rising star Thomas Almeida. During the majority of the lead-up to the anticipated clash of potential future title contenders, Garbrandt was calm and focused. Come to think of it, he seemed like a man who knew what was about to happen. That’s amazing, considering those in attendance and watching at home had no idea. Garbrandt landed 18 significant strikes in under half a round – and that’s all the Team Alpha Male power puncher needed to drop Almedia, who crumbled under the barrage. Garbrandt landed a straight right shot out of a cannon before finishing the job with a few hammer fists that weren’t even necessary. “I believe I’m the hardest hitter in my division,” Garbrandt said. “I knew as soon as I found his chin he was going to go to sleep. The speed and the power was too much for him.”   A star’s rise was all but guaranteed when these two up-and-coming phenoms clashed, and Garbrandt was the one who snatched the opportunity.

Bryan Caraway: ‘I Should Be the Next Guy Up’ for UFC Bantamweight Title Shot

Before his bout with Aljamain Sterling at Sunday’s UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas, Bryan Caraway said that a win should earn him a crack at the UFC bantamweight title. After handing the previously unbeaten Sterling his first defeat, Caraway may be on to something. With Sterling now out of the title picture, and with Dominick Cruz soon to defend his belt against Urijah Faber , Caraway could be right in the thick of title contention. “[Sterling was] the number-four guy and the only ones ahead of him are [T.J.] Dillashaw, Faber and [Renan] Barao, so I think I should be the next guy up for a shot at the title,” Caraway said after his decision win on Sunday. “I think this puts me in title contention. Aljamain was the only guy not fighting for a title ranked above me.” Caraway had a scary opening round against Sterling, but his experience paid dividends in rounds two and three as he wore down the young contender until the final bell. “I got off to a slow start. He’s obviously a good grappler himself. I was just too cautious at first,” Caraway admitted.

UFC Results: Stephens Dominant Against Former Champ Barao, Takes Home Easy Win

Both fighters went for broke in the final round, as much as they could with whatever gas they had left. Both fighters were looking to secure the win by pressing the other on the fence, controlling the fight, but it wasn’t long before they either separated because of a stalemate or the referee reset the action in the middle of the octagon. Their wild punches somehow found their home, and even more impressively, they remained standing. By the time the final horn sounded, it was clear that Stephens controlled the majority of the fight, giving him the nod.

UFC Results: Caraway Deals Sterling the First Loss of His Career

Both fighters stormed to the center of the cage in the final round, hoping to either finish the fight or secure the round for the decision win. A front kick from Sterling allowed Caraway to catch the leg and secure a takedown for himself, his second of the night. Sterling made his way back to his feet, but was taken down with another single leg. Caraway defended a sleep by illegally locking his fingers in the cage-fencing, but only received a warning. Sterling desperately made it back to his feet, wearing Caraway like a backpack. Sterling couldn’t shake Caraway off, bringing the fight to a judges’ decision.
