Cagefighting lightweight titleholder submitted Rustam
Khabilov with a fourth-round rear-naked choke in the
UFC Fight Night “Henderson vs. Khabilov” main event on Saturday
at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, N.M. Henderson brought it to a
close 1:16 into round four, as he won for the 19th time in 21
Khabilov provided a stern test for the MMA Lab ace, scoring with
takedowns in each of the first three rounds. However, Henderson
never panicked, continued to press forward and methodically wore
down the Dagestani brute with his superior conditioning. A little
more than a minute into round four, “Smooth” cracked Khabilov with
a wicked right uppercut, followed it with a straight left and
bullied him to the canvas. Henderson then transitioned to his back,
locked down the choke and waited for the tapout, securing his first
finish in more than four years.

NBA vs. MMA: Fighters make San Antonio Spurs vs. Miami Heat Finals predictions
Mike Miller has partnered and set up gyms with Ryan Bader and Aaron Simpson , and there's quite a few NBA players like Roy Hibbert and Glen Davis who cross-train in MMA during the off season, but is there really a cross-over between Mixed Martial Arts and Basketball? Well I asked several fighters if they watched basketball and to provide NBA Finals picks, and here's what they had to say:
Trading Shots: Is Benson Henderson on to something with media criticism?
Call me crazy, but isn’t that what we’ve been doing, is constructing our idea of Henderson based on what he does in the octagon, which, before Saturday night, was win very close decisions? We don’t have many other options. I’ve interviewed the guy before, and he doesn’t give you much to work with at all. It’s cool to be the guy who does his talking inside the cage, but if that mode of expression keeps coming across as one close fight after another, do you really get to act surprised when that’s what people write about? It’s either that or toothpicks, man. And I think we’ve covered the toothpick thing at this point.

Fortunes changed for five at UFC Fight Night 42
The first is having two more judges. They would judge but their scores wouldn't count for now. But the local athletic commissions, the Association of Boxing Commissions and the UFC's Marc Ratner should get the scores and file them away. At the end of the year, examine if there would be any degree of change. For example, in this case, if the other two judges had voted for Pearson, yeah, the Collins and Tellez cards would still have been ridiculous, but at least the right guy would have won the fight. Maybe five judges aren't better than three, but if we don't experiment with it over the course of time, we may have an easy solution to at least the problem of really bad calls.
The Telegraph reports that Pearson and his head coach Eric Del Fierro officially filed a complaint with the New Mexico Athletic Commission after the fight. It almost definitely won’t be overturned, however. Once home cooking has been scarfed down, it’s not likely to be thrown back up ( unless it’s a quail egg ). Dana White hasn’t issued any kind of rant (or incredulous defense of) the decision. He’ll probably just ignore it.

UFC champ T.J. Dillashaw minimizes Instagram controversy about Renan Barao: 'it was just a stupid joke'
There are a lot of crap being said about this episode. Actually, Urijah (Faber) has never posted anything. A guy from our gym did the joke (later erased). Duane was going to give a Muay Thai seminar and the guy did the joke. It was because Duane said during my fight with Barao that I was giving him a free Muay Thai seminar in the fourth round. It got blown out of proportion.

Myles Jury out, Abel Trujillo removed from UFC Fight Night: San Antonio
Top 10 ranked lightweight Myles Jury is out of his June 28th meeting with Abel Trujillo, which has forced the UFC to do some re-shuffling of their San Antonio card.
Fight cards are tougher to sit through because the talent levels are lower. Sometimes there’s two of these regional-level, star-sparse cards on the same day! And I’m not ragging on UFC Fight Night 42 specifically; on paper the card was pretty decent for a free Fight Night Card. I’m referring to the general lowering of the bar in terms of card quality that’s become undeniable as of late. The most insulting part is all these events are, for the most part, marketed the same way: Here’s awesome UFC Fights. They’ll be good. Watch them or you’re not an MMA fan.

UFC Fight Night 42 post-fight facts: Diego Sanchez goes distance again for UFC record
Sanchez’s 15 minutes of fight time gave him a total of 4:37:57 over his 21-fight UFC career. That’s the fifth most in UFC history behind Georges St-Pierre (5:28:12), B.J. Penn (5:03:51), Tito Ortiz (5:00:53) and Randy Couture (4:41:50). The 32-year-old has spent more time in the octagon than any non-champion in the organization’s existence.
Ross Pearson’s victory disappears in the ‘Land of Enchantment’
One thing about New Mexico is that it certainly lives up to its claim of being a "Land of Enchantment." There’s Taos to the north, a place of sage whitebeards and rainsticks (gorgeous if you’ve never been). There’s Truth or Consequences, which speaks for itself…there’s Alamogordo, which translates happily as "fat tree," and the Carlsbad Caverns, and more natural wonders like Keith Jardine … And then there’s Jeff Collins, an MMA judge. This is where things get freaky-deaky lonesome cowboy sipping "red eye" from the ladle weird. Not at Roswell, where aliens are a dime a dozen. Things get weirdest at Collins. On the UFC’s inaugural visit to Albuquerque, for so long made famous by the Russian-accented coach Greg Jackson and his partner Mike Winkeljohn , Collins showed a type of enchantment that may be unparalleled in MMA. He was cageside for hometown hero Diego Sanchez ’s fight with Ross Pearson and, through what can only be called "the power of Tony Robbins," saw a fight where Pearson fairly convincingly won all three rounds for Sanchez. Collins scored it 30-27 for Sanchez, who was dropped a couple of times, trampled in technique, outsmarted and outclassed throughout.

On Saturday, Jason High made his UFC lightweight debut, facing Rafael dos Anjos. The contest ended at the 3:36 mark of the second round when referee Kevin Mulhall waved the fight off and awarded the TKO victory to the No. 5 ranked Dos Anjos. The ruling did not sit well with High.

UFC Tweets of the Day: Anthony Pettis and Khabib Nurmagomedov trade barbs
Moments after submitting Rustam Khabilov , Ben Henderson took a slight dig at Anthony Pettis at the post-fight interview, referencing the champion's numerous injuries leading to the belt not being defended since August of last year. As with most of the 'beef' going on these days, Pettis then decided to reply via twitter:
Jason High apologizes for shoving ref post-loss, but UFC not happy with action
High isn’t the only UFC fighter who’s lost his cool with an official’s call in the heat of the moment. Veteran Phil Baroni struck ref Larry Landless for waving off a bout at UFC 45 and was subsequently suspended four months by the overseeing Nevada State Athletic Commissions.
UFN - Henderson vs. Khabilov Results: Winners and Losers
Benson Henderson: Finally, we come to the biggest winner of the night. This was a lose-lose fight for him unless he did something dramatic, and Henderson delivered with his first victory inside the distance since April of 2010. There are still legitimate concerns about his game - his volume striking at range didn't really look much better than it has in the past - but his wrestling was on point, he looked just as good as ever in the scrambles and grappling exchanges, and he showed off some power in his hands with the shot that put Khabilov down before the rear-naked choke. In short, Henderson reignited some of the fan interest that's been lacking since the second Frankie Edgar fight, and that's priceless.
