Hydration Standards | The Dolce Diet

Unfortunately, most recommendations are geared toward endurance athletes, like triathletes, since they go for so long without eating full meals and drinking regularly. If you are an athlete who participates in high-intensity, short-duration activities, hydrating prior is important and similar to the above recommendations. Hydration during activity should not be nearly as much in order to prevent GI distress, but enough that you feel satiated during the workout. Even during sprint intervals it’s ok to stop for a gulp of water. Mainly, try to drink when you feel that dry mouth sensation. And after exercise fluid replacement is still just as important, but maybe not at quite as large as the quantities outlined above. Get yourself some fluids, carbs and a little bit of protein to promote muscle recovery. The carbs and protein will help retain those fluids and electrolytes lost.

Manager says Stefan Struve ‘definitely wants to fight,’ expects him to return ‘sooner than later’

"He had essentially what boiled down to a panic attack," McMahon said on The MMA Hour. "It manifested itself physically, he had a fainting episode backstage before his fight occurred. I don't think he took full account of the emotions to step into the Octagon. I think he had some lingering questions about where health was even though he'd been cleared by specialist. All those things came together in a perfect storm and unfortunately it created a tremendous amount of anxiety, and it caused him to faint. ... Stefan has already seen several doctors, the doctors have reiterated there is nothing physically wrong with him, it was more the psychological response which created the physical manifestation of him fainting."

NEWS - Toquinho Back And Focuses On Reckoning With Fitch: "I Want That Man" | World Series of Fighting

After focusing their attentions on surgery of the mother, who suffers from thrombosis in one of his legs, Rousimar Toquinho returned the focus to the MMA. The welterweight champion (up to 170 pounds) at the World Series of Fighting followed everything closely in Minas Gerais and celebrated the success of the procedure, carried out last week. After returning to training this week on Team Nogueira, in Rio de Janeiro, he wants the reckoning with Jon Fitch. The two had duel scheduled for July 5, but was postponed for Toquinho could take care of MOM, which generated criticism from American. Still no new date for the belt in the WSOF. Thank God my mother is now at home. I was at the hospital with her the whole time. It's crazy, it's my mom, huh? She went through everything with us until today. Now I'm relaxed, thanks to God. I have a concern. Now I focus on training. Robin van Roosmalen on GLORY title shot, crossover fights in Bellator

Hard-hitting GLORY lightweight contender Robin van Roosmalen has been told he is likely the next in line for a title shot at 155lbs. He holds two wins over current champion Davit Kiria but doesn’t see that as any guarantee of another victory. Alistair Overeem grateful for new team 'chemistry', still optimistic about fighting Junior dos Santos

"Don't take opponents lightly. Don't take anyone lightly," he nearly commands. "This is the UFC. I am fighting against a 265 [pound] beast. The guy is huge. So, of course, he's going to try to knock my head off. So, yeah, don't underestimate anyone in that sense. I am currently coming out of a surgery, but I am optimistic. I am learning every day. I am training hard. It's hard because it's high altitude, so yeah, it's going to be another challenge and we have to be 100 percent to make sure we overcome this challenge."

Chad Mendes: UFC Featherweight Champ Jose Aldo ‘Definitely’ Uses PEDs

Listen to Monday's Chad Mendes interview in the player above. Chad Mendes was set to fight Jose Aldo in the main event of the ill-fated UFC 176 pay-per-view on Aug. 2, but the fight and event were subsequently canceled when Aldo withdrew due to a neck injury. During a Monday appearance on the Sherdog Radio Network’s ”Beatdown” show, “Money” weighed in on what he really thought caused the fight to be postponed. MMA has had issues of late with fighters testing positive for performance enhancing drugs, and Mendes believes Aldo is no exception. “I feel like this happens to me a lot, like I have a curse or something. It sucks,” Mendes said. “I definitely do [think Aldo’s using PEDs]. This is something that's been ongoing, but for him to all of a sudden just drop out -- I mean he drops out of a lot of fights -- but I think it’s pretty coincidental.” Mendes supports recent efforts by the UFC and athletic commissions to implement random drug tests. The method obviously works, but the issue remains rampant, with high profile cases involving Chael Sonnen , Wanderlei Silva and Ali Bagautinov serving as examples.

With hand injured, Chris Weidman was worried he’d have to pull out of UFC 175

Weidman said he went to the doctor to have an X-ray done on the hand, which also required an MRI. "So they did the MRI and I had to wait on the results, and I was really just pissed off, and I was depressed," he said. "I was like, how am I going to deal with this? It was a bad situation. If it’s not broken, obviously I’m not pulling out, but how am I going to train for these last two weeks. I can’t even touch my fingers together and I can’t obviously punch. It was a tough day with that. It was ligaments that were all messed up and sprained. So, I got cortisone injections, which they even told me probably won’t help much because it’s not really an inflammation issue. But I asked them to do it anyway, just anything that might help." Weidman said it didn’t really help too much, but that within a couple days of receiving the injections he was able to grapple again, even if he wasn’t able to punch for the last two-and-a-half weeks of camp. On fight night, Weidman said he felt a little discomfort here and there, but ultimately said it didn’t affect his performance. "I had the worst camp of my life, but I fought well," he said.

UFC fight bookings roundup: 7/8 – 7/15

Since the UFC has decided to produce 50+ events in 2014, there is a remarkable amount of fighter signings and new match-ups being set up throughout any given week. Many of these new signings are for match-ups that take place on the undercard, or on the Fight Pass portion of a PPV, so we are going to continue with a new weekly (or bi-weekly if needed) series of articles where we take a brief look at each and every bout booked by the promotion in one place.

Achieving optimal training performance requires a finely tuned balance of both mental and physical fortitude. At times, however, this “balance” can be thrown off kilter. Occasionally, we may only possess the mental focus part of the equation, but lack the muscular endurance required to train with intensity. In those times, we desperately want to push harder, but our fatigued muscles prevent us from achieving the optimal workout intensity we crave. This is nothing short of confounding. Unfortunately, chugging stimulants won’t offer much help; more caffeine would simply cause nervous jitters followed by an exercise halting “crash.” What we really want is a stimulant free product formulated to help buffer muscle fatigue and preserve lean muscle. Such a product could do wonders for our capacity to train to our potential in the “high intensity zone.”*

Matt Serra on retiring, B.J. Penn and feeling like 'nothing can be wrong in the world'

Click here to support Our Next Strip Club Outreach by Ksenia Resh

Dear family and friends, even though it has been a couple of months since we had our last outreach, God has been doing amazing things! One of our butterflies recently quit her job at a strip club, got connected at church and is rebuilding her life, step by step. God is faithful and we are excited to see more miracles in the lives of girls who have been trapped in the sex industry.  Once again, we are asking for your help. We are planning to have our next outreach on Aug 9, 2014.  Our team will be going into multiple strip clubs around the city to share the love of Jesus and show the ladies that we truly care for them. The purpose of this outreach is to simply let the girls who dance at strip clubs know that they are loved and treasured. Each of the girls will get a gift bag with a few items including a card with the message of true love and hope, hand sanitizers, and some chocolates. This will be our fourth outreach and we are super excited! We have been getting incredible feedback from the girls who received the gifts during our last outreach. Their hearts were touched with a simple message of love in a mighty way.

Alex White happy to be known as 'the trophy hunter'

At 25-years of age, it would have been very easy for White to go out and splurge on some fun toys that he never got to have while working 40 hours a week and eking out a fight career on the regional MMA scene.  Instead, White did the responsible thing and paid off his debt and now as he approaches his second fight in the UFC, he's a man who only has to focus on two things -- training and paying his rent.

Gleison Tibau wants to break Tito Ortiz’s UFC record by 2015

"This goal keeps me inspired and motivated," Tibau told "I want to break all the records. I want to be the lightweight with most fights and wins in the UFC, and I want to be the fighter with most fights in the UFC. And I want to get closer to the title by doing this. That’s my war."

The Cut List: UFC Fight Night: Cerrone vs. Miller

Jessamyn Duke (3-1-1NC, 1-1 UFC), Leslie Smith (6-5-1NC, 0-1 UFC) - The bad: both Duke and Smith's records are approaching the .500 mark, and neither looked especially good last time out, with Smith coming off especially hapless. It's possible that they'd send Duke away to get a little more seasoning. Likewise for Smith, who, with a loss here, might want to right ship in Invicta before taking another stab at it. The good: Duke's affiliation with Rousey could buy her some time, and that Smith took her first UFC fight on short notice might give her a bit of leeway. It also doesn't hurt that the division is pretty thin. Sort of a toss-up. Not just whether they lose or not, but how they lose, seems especially important here.
