Patricio ‘Pitbull’ Squeaks by Daniel Weichel at Bellator 203 in Rome

Champion @PatricioPitbull throwing heavy leather on @danielweichel in round 2 of their featherweight world title fight! #Bellator203 — Bellator MMA (@BellatorMMA) July 15, 2018 On Saturday, Bellator MMA pitched its tent at Centrale Live in Rome, Italy. Not stinting on quality or local flavor, Bellator 203 treated fans to its most dominant champion as well as bringing home Italy’s most famous mixed martial arts export. It was Bellator’s fifth event on Italian soil and, as usual, it did not leave fans disappointed, as the only fight to go the distance was the back-and-forth main event. In the headlining fight, Bellator featherweight champion Patricio Freire slipped by Daniel Weichel , emerging with a rousing split-decision victory after five rounds. The fighters studied each other for most of the first frame, and the public showed its disappointment by whistling at both fighters. “Pitbull” took the initiative in the second period with effective striking offense, dominating Weichel both on feet and on the ground. Weichel answered in the third by taking the champion to the ground and hitting him with some heavy punches and elbows.

5 Great MMA Deals for Amazon Prime Day

Rejoice: It’s Amazon Prime Day ! Not familiar? Check out the Guide to Amazon Prime Day . Got it? Good. Now let’s explore some great deals for the mixed martial arts fan! “Ali vs. Inoki” by Josh Gross “Inoki can use his bare fists. He can use karate. This is serious. There’s $10 million involved. I wouldn’t pull a fraud on the public. This is real. There’s no plan. The blood. The holds. The pain. Everything is going to be real. I’m not here in this time of my life to come out with some phony action. I want you to know this is real.” -- Muhammad Ali, June 14, 1976, “The Tonight Show” On June 26, 1976, Muhammad Ali fought in a mixed-rules contest against iconic pro wrestling champion Antonio Inoki for the so-called “martial arts championship of the world.” Broadcast from Tokyo to a potential audience of 1.4 billion in 34 countries, the spectacle foreshadowed and, in many ways, led to the rise of mixed martial arts as a major sport. The unique contest was controversial and panned by wrestling and boxing supporters alike, but the real action was behind the scenes.

UFC Fight Night 133 Prelims: Alejandro Perez Edges Eddie Wineland

Eddie Wineland thought he did enough to eke out a decision over Alejandro Perez in the UFC Fight Night 133 preliminary card headliner, but he was mistaken. Though Wineland appeared to have more consistent offensive output throughout their entertaining three-round affair, none of the three cageside judges saw the bout that way. “Turbo” was awarded an unpopular unanimous decision over the former World Extreme Cagefighting bantamweight champion, with all three officials seeing it 29-28 for Perez. Related » UFC Boise Round-by-Round Scoring Volkanovski Busts Up Elkins Aussie contender Alexander Volkanovski was a bit too much for Darren Elkins to handle as “The Great” edged his foe over three grueling rounds. Elkins, one of the toughest fighters on the planet, was dropped on three separate occasions in the opening round and was out on his feet twice. Volkanovski tried closing the show with guillotines every time he floored the Indiana fighter, but Elkins slipped out of all them. Elkins suffered cuts all over his face and was hurt from punches late in the third and when the final bell sounded, it was clear who had won.

By the Numbers: UFC Fight Night 133

While it wasn’t quite a snoozer on par with Derrick Lewis vs. Francis Ngannou , the UFC Fight Night 133 headliner wasn’t one for the record books, either. Former heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos maintained a consistent output for five rounds at the CenturyLink Arena in Boise, Idaho, on Saturday night, and that was enough to outpoint former World Series of Fighting tilist Blagoy Ivanov . Fortunately, there were several other noteworthy performances on the card, including a triumphant return by Chad Mendes and a slugfest between Alexander Volkanovski and Darren Elkins , among others. And on a night filled with 13 bouts, there are plenty of facts and figures to examine. Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC Fight Night 133, with statistics courtesy of 13: UFC wins for dos Santos, the third most in the history of the heavyweight division. Only fellow former champions Andrei Arlovski (16) and Frank Mir (16) have more victories than “Cigano.” 110: Significant strikes landed by dos Santos.

Alexander Volkanovski Battled Through Injured Rib to Defeat Darren Elkins at UFC Boise

A post shared by Alexander "The Great" (@alexvolkanovski) on Jul 13, 2018 at 3:27pm PDT Alexander Volkanovski managed to avoid the trademark Darren Elkins rally at UFC Fight Night 133 , and he did so while competing at less than 100 percent. The Australian prospect improved to 5-0 in the Las Vegas-based promotion, as he dropped Elkins twice, bloodied his opponent and held an for a unanimous decision triumph at the CenturyLink Arena in Boise, Idaho, on Saturday night. Volkanovski halted a six-bout winning streak for Elkins, who had made a habit of rallying from dire predicaments in some of his previous victories. “I wanted the finish but I had some setbacks along the way,” Volkanovski said. “I injured my rib on Wednesday and that really forced me to be more patient and wait for things to come to me. He’s a very tough guy. I hit him with all I could in the moment but, as I said, my rib was giving me a lot of problems so that affected the fight.” Some footage of me busting my rib Wednesday night ‍♂️ — Alex Volkanovski (@alexvolkanovski) July 15, 2018 Elkins represents the most significant triumph to date for the Freestyle Fighting Gym product.

UFC Fight Night 133 Bonuses: Niko Price Pockets $50K for Rarely-Seen Finish

Niko Price is one bad dude! — FOX Sports: UFC (@UFCONFOX) July 15, 2018 There were a few impressive performances at UFC Fight Night 133 in Boise, Idaho, on Saturday night, but Niko Price ’s victorious effort is the one most likely to stick in the memory banks. Price garnered a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” award for his unique finish of Randy Brown in a main card welterweight tilt. As Brown was landing ground-and-pound early in the second round, Price attempted to roll for a kneebar. As a result, Brown’s chin came to rest in Price’s foot, allowing “The Hybrid” to pound his foe unconscious with five hammerfists from his back at the 1:09 mark. Elsewhere, Chad Mendes made a triumphant return following a lengthy hiatus to capture the evening’s other $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus. After a slow start, the former featherweight title challenger floored opponent Myles Jury with a powerful left hook. From there, “Money” unloaded with ground-and-pound to earn the stoppage 2:52 into round one. Finally, Raoni Barcelos and Kurt Holobaugh received “Fight of the Night” honors and $50,000 apiece for their preliminary featherweight scrap.

Cris ‘Cyborg’ Warns That Amanda Nunes Fight Could Be Her Last UFC Appearance

Last week, news broke that the Ultimate Fighting Championship was targeting Dec. 29 for a superfight between featherweight queen Cristiane Justino and bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes . However, the date was not ideal for “Cyborg,” who would have preferred to face Nunes at UFC 228, which is scheduled for Sept. 8 in Dallas. Justino last defended her title with a first-round stoppage of Yana Kunitskaya at UFC 222 in March, while Nunes retained the 135-pound strap with a fifth-round TKO of Raquel Pennington at UFC 224 in May. “Friday, last week, I talked to the UFC, and I said I wanted to fight, that I’m ready to fight,” Cyborg said on the Brazilian show Combate News . “I’ve been training, ready, and I want to fight. They offered me Sept. 8, in Dallas, to fight Amanda. I said that’s fine. I’ll fight. I’ve been training. I’m ready. A champion has to be ready all the time. “Then on Monday they said [she] didn’t accept Sept. 8. Then I said I wanted to fight anyway. I want to fight. I don’t want to be idle. And then Amanda sent the picture, saying she accepted the fight on Dec.
