Dennis Bermudez: Contemplating the Next Chapters
Dennis Bermudez (left) exchanges punches with Rick Glenn at UFC
Boise. (Photo: Josh Hedges/Getty Images)
Dennis
Bermudez finds himself in the middle of one of the most trying
times in his 16-fight
Ultimate Fighting Championship career. At
UFC Fight Night 133 in Boise, Idaho, this past Saturday night,
“The Menace” was handed his fourth straight loss. At this moment,
the longtime featherweight standout is questioning many things,
including how much longer he wants to continue in the sport.
“I’m not going to sit here and lie to you,” Bermudez told
Sherdog.com. “I’m mentally and physically fatigued by everything
I’ve put my body through.”
This is not the first losing streak for the 31-year-old, but it is
the longest and by far the most frustrating, partly because the
last three have come by way of split decision. The most recent of
those, in Boise against Rick Glenn ,
surprised many pundits and fans of the sport. The striking stats
between the two were fairly even, but Bermudez landed six takedowns
in the bout compared to zero for his opponent.

Geek for Technique: Best Moves at UFC Fight Night 133
UFC Fight Night 133 on Saturday in Boise, Idaho, was one of the
more underrated and overlooked events of the year. It produced some
fantastic finishes and set up some interesting matchups for the
future. This installment of the Geek for Technique series sheds
some light on the best techniques and strategies from UFC Fight
Night “Dos Santos vs. Ivanov.”
Not long ago, the Skrap Pack was one of MMA’s most recognizable and
successful factions, with Nick Diaz ,
Nate
Diaz , Gilbert
Melendez and Jake Shields .
While the group does not make as much noise these days, it still
produces top talent in mixed martial arts. Take Mark De La
Rosa as an example. He spent most of the first round against
Elias
Garcia on the feet but wasted no time in the second, where he
took the fight to the mat early and earned a rear-naked choke
finish. De La Rosa, a nine-time North American Grappling
Association champion, already has some of the best jiu-jitsu in the
flyweight division. In a weight class begging for new contenders,
he finds himself on a short list of prospects to watch.

Antonio Carlos Junior upset at rankings, wants Paulo Costa for UFC Fight Night 137 headliner
“I watched the recent fight between Paulo Costa and Uriah Hall,” Carlos Junior told MMAjunkie. “It was a great fight! Both men stood toe-to-toe, and Paulo came off with another win by knockout. But how could it be that he is ranked, above me, for example?

July 16, 2018
It appears that Absolute Championship Berkut has fallen on hard
times.
According to multiple reports, the Russian mixed martial arts
promotion has canceled its card scheduled for Saturday. ACB 89 was
to take place at Spyros Kyprianou Athletic Center in Limassol,
Cyprus and was headlined by a clash between Bellator MMA veteran
Alexander

Batista .
The cancellation was initially reported by Marcel Dorff via
Twitter and then confirmed by
MMANytt.com .
There will likely be more cancellations to follow. RTSport News
Editor Denis Geyko reported
on Twitter that the promotion has canceled other upcoming shows
in Kazan, Russia, on July 28 and Malmo, Sweden, on Aug. 25, along
with a previously reported cancellation in the U.K. ACB has yet to
formally make an announcement regarding Saturday’s event, or the
cards in Russia and Sweden.

Five Lessons Learned from UFC Fight Night 133
Let’s just say,
UFC Fight Night 133 was not the star event of the sports
week.
France won its second World Cup, managed and coached by the man who
captained them to their first in 1998. Novak Djokovic defeated
rival Rafael Nadal in extra sets in a two-day classic at Wimbledon.
Angelique Kerber upset Serena Williams, preventing the greatest
woman to ever pick up a tennis racket from winning her 24th major.
With the win, Kerber moved one Roland Garros two-week slough away
from winning a career slam and quietly being one of the most
accomplished women ever in tennis. Also, many men dunked on one
another during the NBA Summer League.
Did you hear that Junior dos
Santos beat the guy who once beat Fedor
Emelianenko in a sambo match? Yes, I may be glib, but UFC Fight
Night 133 was not without its merits. More importantly, if you’re a
fight fan, it’s not necessarily about every card being Pride 10 or
UFC 100. Somewhere in these seven-hour cards, there’s always
something to keep your eye on, something to take away, something to
learn from.

Fight Facts: Contender Series Season 2 Midseason Review
Fight Facts is a breakdown of all the interesting information
and Octagon oddities on every card, with some puns, references and
portmanteaus to keep things fun. These deep stat dives delve into
the numbers, providing historical context and telling the stories
behind those numbers.
* * *
After the first 4 events of the second season of
Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series , the promotion
proved that is the real future of finding prospects for the
Ultimate Fighting Championship . In these four events, the
Contender Series featured a 16-fight stoppage streak, a knockout
the likes of which we had never even seen by a heavyweight inside
the UFC and the biggest upset in the show’s short but memorable
history.
FINISH HIM (or her): Through 20 fights in four
Contender Series events this season, fighters have finished 17 of
them for a finish rate of 85%. That finish rate is higher than any
Zuffa-owned organization, Bellator, Invicta FC, or WSOF-PFL.
Well, I’m a Professional - I’m Serious and I’m a
Professional: Every single fighter has made weight for
their bouts on the Contender Series.

PFL President Carlos Silva: Stakes Are Even Higher for Fighters In the Next Few Events | MMAWeekly.com
“I think PFL 1 exciting. I think PFL 2 really exciting. I think PFL 3 even more exciting,” PFL president Carlos Silva told MMAWeekly. “At the beginning of season, I think we were all curious to see how it goes and I think the fighters responded. They said ‘I get it, I want to make the playoffs, I want to make $1 million and I want to put myself in the best position’ and I’ve seen it as a fan but I’ve also seen it as an executive here. I see something different in the fighters even in the second round, when they think ‘if I can get a finish, I can get some bonus points’.

Former Champ Junior dos Santos Defends Brock Lesnar's UFC 226 Antics - MMA Imports
“Man that’s weird because he wasn’t competing. But we have to see this fact: Cormier won the heavyweight title and now he is the champion of two divisions. And he was the guy who invited Brock Lesnar to step in the cage. So if the two-division champion invites you to the cage, almost challenging you…so it was kind of strange. But I understand Daniel Cormier and probably if I was in his shoes I probably would do the same. Somehow people love to see Brock Lesnar fight. People love to see that huge guy and they pay for it. So that’s why UFC wants to do that kind of fight, people want to see it. So I am understanding more what’s happening in this scenario.”
