Free $500 UFC 175 Kountermove fantasy cash tourney
Players use a $25,000 artificial salary cap to draft 5 fighters from the card before each event begins. Eachfighter has a salary designated by Kountermove -- salaries range from $3,000 to $8,000. The winners are determined based on how the fight plays out rather than simply a fight's outcome (pick'em format). Kountermove calculates a fighter's fantasy score based on the number of strikes, takedowns, submissions, dominant positions, and rounds won. Scoring data from the fights flows into the site in near real-time, so players can monitor their teams as the event happens. The data used in calculating a fighter's score is provided by UFC's official stats provider, FightMetric.

Exxon Hates America
Because we want to live in a world where we can tell the plain truth about the richest companies in the world, right on television - and it's no big deal. Does Exxon actually hate America? No one knows, but its record and actions, along with those of its fossil fuel industry colleagues, show an incredible disregard for our nation and its future. Our ad is obvious satire, but with an important message that is protected by the First Amendment.

Two Guys With Guns Have Showdown On First Day Of Georgia's New 'Guns Everywhere' Law
Tuesday was also the day that Georgia's so-called "guns everywhere" law went into effect, allowing residents to carry guns into bars, nightclubs, classrooms, and certain government buildings. Among other things, the law also prohibits police from demanding to see the weapons permit of someone seen carrying a gun. Childress mentioned that last point when talking to the Daily Times about Tuesday's incident.

The Fighter & The Kid
This podcast has jumped to the top of my UFC/MMA podcast list - but c'mon, once a week?. I really feel like Brendan and Bryan should be able to do at least 2 eps a week, or maybe 2 hours a pop - I mean, what else do these guys have to do during the day? Brendan habitually mispronouncing every major UFC fighter's name on the roster is a nice touch, too. I also want to hear more about Bryan's mad greco skills. I think he should do each episode shirtless.
Light Heavyweight Matt Hamill Announces Retirement From MMA at Age 37

For the second time in nearly three years,
UFC veteran Matt Hamill
has announced his retirement from mixed martial arts.
Hamill, a veteran of 16 professional bouts, announced his decision
via Facebook on
“First and foremost, I would like to thank my most loyal fans for
standing by me throughout my 10-year career with MMA,” he wrote.
“All good things must come to an end, and I am saddened that the
time has come for me to hang up my gloves permanently due to a
nagging injury that has never healed and has worsened with time.
The memories have been good.”
Hamill initially retired from MMA following a loss to Alexander
Gustafsson at UFC 133 on Aug. 6, 2011. “The Ultimate Fighter 3”
veteran cited an accumulation of injuries as the reasoning behind
his decision then.
“My career has been plagued by injuries, starting with ‘The
Ultimate Fighter,’ and [they have] disrupted my training ever
since,” Hamill wrote in a statement on his official website two
days after UFC 133.

However, Sonnen will be able to keep at least one high-profile
obligation this summer. Earlier this week, multiple outlets
reported that Sonnen would remain in the Metamoris 4 headliner
Galvao on Aug. 9.
On Wednesday, Metamoris founder Ralek
Gracie issued a statement regarding the former middleweight and
light heavyweight title challenger via Twitter. The entire
statement is as follows:
We are not cutting Chael Sonnen
from the Metamoris 4 card on August 9th.
Why not? Because we don’t currently test for PEDs, and we are not
an MMA organization. Metamoris is a grappling event with different
rules, and we require our own unique set of regulations for all
aspects of participation.
We are concerned about the issue of PEDs overall, but we have a lot
of research and work to do before accurately defining our stance.

Steve Austin: Jon Jones 'kind of gets on my nerves because I think he's living two lives'
Within the UFC, when the question comes up regarding what celebrity outside the sport itself is the most knowledgeable, a name that comes up high on most lists is retired pro wrestler turned reality show personality and podcast host Steve Austin.Austin, along with another retired pro wrestler, C.M. Punk, are far more than casual fans. While not the level of hardcore fan who lives and dies with each bit of news and trivia, Austin combines a love for watching the product with a business background. While pro wrestling may not be a sport, Austin was a former college football player at North Texas State who understand the mentality of a highly competitive athlete, which as hard as it is for some to understand, he was in his wrestling days, and that of a fan. He even admits to enjoy watching MMA to pro wrestling, a love from his childhood when he grew up in South Texas watching "Houston Wrestling" in the 70s.
He watches both for the fights, but also with his background, notices how the personalities interact and can't help but think about the box office. In his prior job, like a UFC champion, he was paid based on the box office, so understanding what gets people to spend ticket money is at this point inbred in him, a subject he's had four plus decades to study.
Tom Lawlor out at UFC Fight Night 46, promotion seeks replacement foe for Ilir Latifi
Latifi (8-3-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) made his UFC debut as a light heavyweight, filling in on short notice to face Gegard Mousasi in a losing effort. He was given a second chance in the promotion and earned an emotional submission win over Cyrille Diabate in March. He was expected to return to action for a fight against the always-entertaining “Filthy” Lawlor (9-5 MMA, 5-4 UFC), who hasn’t fought since an April 2013 win over Michael Kuiper. A timetable for his return wasn’t immediately established.

UFC Fight Night 49 adds Demian Maia vs. Mike Pyle, Thales Leites vs. Francis Carmont
Maia (19-6 MMA, 13-6 UFC) fights for the 20th time under the UFC banner. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist reached the top of the promotion’s middleweight division in 2010, when he suffered a decision loss to Anderson Silva in a failed bid for the 185-pound title. In 2012, he dropped to 170 pounds, where he picked up three big wins before suffering through a two-fight losing streak. Most recently, he snapped that skid with a May victory over promotional newcomer Alexander Yakovlev.
This is my last article on MiddleEasy
I started MiddleEasy on a Toshiba laptop that I got from Texas back in 2008. It was my first purchase when I landed my first ‘real’ job after I left Europe and was subsequently robbed of all my possessions at Heathrow Airport. It’s a long story, a story that I’ve probably told many times over the years. The name MiddleEasy was from a typo that I sent to my friend Rachel Mondeau one day on AIM when I told her to look at some crazy building they’re constructing in the ‘Middle Easy.’ I snagged the domain, sat on it for a while, and then after watching Michihiro Omigawa’s superhuman performance against Nam Phan at Sengoku 8, I activated my domain and started building the entire site at 2:00 am EST and by 10:30 am on May 2nd MiddleEasy was in existence. In the first article on MiddleEasy I told you guys Omigawa was a hybrid of Manny Pacquiao and a Carebear – and that sort of set the tone for the next five years.

Off the Mat: How UFC featherweight Nik Lentz fought to save his father while reinventing himself
But Lentz was pretty close to getting into med school, and he was a bright student, doing everything he was supposed to do, putting together a foundation for a stable future. He'd gotten a lot out of wrestling — a relationship with his father, an outlet for his emotions, fitness, a scholarship, discipline, lessons in how to grow. But it also taught him that it sometimes doesn't matter how much you "want it," because if you don't enjoy what you do, you're inevitably going to burn out. The more he thought about it, he couldn't see himself trying to finish school and fighting at the same time, and he couldn't see himself doing well in school when all he really wanted to do was fight. So he quit and went all in, dropping out of college to fight full-time. He figured he could finish school when he was older. Fighting was way more fun than wrestling had ever been, and right now, he wanted to see what he was really capable of.

Alves Scratched from Tulsa Card
After a triumphant return to the Octagon in April after two years on the sidelines, the injury bug has once again bit welterweight Thiago Alves, who has been forced out of his August 23 bout in Tulsa against Jordan Mein. Stepping in for the "Pitbull" will be Colorado phenom Brandon Thatch, who has finished both Justin Edwards and Paulo Thiago in his first two Octagon bouts. Tickets for the event at the BOK Center go on sale on Friday, July 11.
Chris Barnett just wants to work. So why will no one fight him?
“I was looking at Bob Sapp and how he is and who he is as a person,” Barnett said. “Toward the middle part and end of his career, he was a big name over in Japan and people loved him. They made dildos after this guy, toys and all that stuff. If he goes to Japan he’s an icon. To fight in Japan and actually win over in Japan would make it that much better.
First UFC women's strawweight fight to be aired on Fight Pass instead of Fox Sports 1
You would think that with a new season of TUF approaching in September specifically designed to promote the new weight class, a fight like this would at least make the televised preliminary card if not the main card outright. Instead, the UFC's current bout order has Gadelha vs. Lahdemaki as the only prelim bout to be streamed on Fight Pass.

Jessica Eye disagrees with Rousey on fighters not being ready for title shot
“I know that when Alexis gives her a lot harder time than she’s expecting, it just makes me look that much better,” she said. “So I’m hoping for a little bit more of a war. With a world-class jiu-jitsu game, it’s going to match up well stylistically with Ronda.”
