2 Karo Parisyan Looking to Take Out Phil Baroni at Bellator 122 |

“I want to work my way up one fight at a time and fight for a title. I don’t want to look past any opponents – Phil is a tough guy, a tough opponent – so I’m going to go out there and try to take him out and then think about my next opponent.”

Morning Report: Alexander Gustafsson details knee injury, believes Jon Jones will edge out Daniel Cormier

"It's an interesting matchup," Gustafsson said. "Both are great athletes and it's going to be a tough fight for sure. But Jones has his height and reach advantage over DC, so I think that will be the key thing in this fight. I think Jones by decision.

Who Ya Got? Fighters predict UFC on FOX 12's Robbie Lawler vs. Matt Brown headliner

“I trained with Matt on and off for years,” UFC Hall of Famer Forrest Griffin said. “And I can tell you that the last time I trained with Matt, he got the better of me. That’s never happened before. I was like, ‘Am I really getting beaten up by a 170-pounder right now? Is this really happening?’”

5 UFC on Fox 12: Brown vs. Lawler staff picks and predictions

Zane Simon : I took Lawler in the Vivi with Dallas (and for all the reasons listed above), but if for nothing else than the sake of dissent I'll take Brown, here and now, today. Both guys have no problem taking two to give one back, and it's in those kinds of fights that Matt Brown really seems to do his best work. When someone is willing to stand inside with him and see who's tougher, it's always Matt Brown. Lawler, for all his great technical skill and polish, seems happiest when the fight is getting a bit sloppy. When he can pick you apart he will, and he's no doubt a killer. But, I don't see Brown settling on this fight at range, so I'll go with the upset and take Brown to continue his ridiculously unlikely roll to the top. Matt Brown by TKO, round 3.

Ken Ham wants to end the U.S. space program because the aliens are all going to hell

“And I do believe there can’t be other intelligent beings in outer space because of the meaning of the gospel,” Ham wrote. “You see, the Bible makes it clear that Adam’s sin affected the whole universe. This means that any aliens would also be affected by Adam’s sin, but because they are not Adam’s descendants, they can’t have salvation. One day, the whole universe will be judged by fire, and there will be a new heavens and earth. God’s Son stepped into history to be Jesus Christ, the “Godman,” to be our relative, and to be the perfect sacrifice for sin — the Savior of mankind.”

Tracks Hint at the Social Life of Tyrant Dinosaurs

But the arrangement of the tracks is what has gained the most attention and plays into speculations of tyrannosaur packs. All three trackways face the same direction and were made in close proximity, with 18 feet between Trackway A and B, and eight feet between B and C. While there’s a chance that the trackways were made by three individuals that traveled the same area at different times, McCrea and colleagues consider this unlikely. Tyrannosaurs were a rare part of the fauna, there is no sign of an obstacle that would create a bottleneck requiring tyrannosaurs to walk the same path, and the detail of the tracks – down to foot scales on some – hint that they were all made around the same time, while substrate conditions were consistent. That two, if not three, tyrannosaurs were walking together is the simplest explanation of the pattern.

Fighter Diet News, by Pauline Nordin: Get Buff, Get Lean

Watch today's UFC on FOX 12 weigh-ins live on MMAjunkie at 7 p.m. ET

The weigh-ins take place at San Jose’s SAP Center. The same venue then hosts Saturday’s FOX-televised event. The first fighter is on the scale at 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. PT).

Who is Bobby Green?

Before a scheduled fight with Jim Miller at UFC 172 in April, Bobby Green was in a good place. He was about to fight on a Pay-Per-View main card against a respected opponent with the kind of name that would take Green places if he won, and after putting together a seven-fight win streak that included three UFC wins, he was on the verge of shedding the tag of being “the best fighter you never heard of.” So yeah, life was good. “I’m just enjoying the ride,” said Green. “God is good and he’s blessed me with these opportunities. I’m happy to be where I’m at and whatever happens happens, but I’m thankful that I was here. I live every day like it’s my last.” The next three months would test his resolve though. The Miller fight was scrapped when Green got injured, and a UFC 176 bout against Abel Trujillo met a similar fate, with the two moving to August’s Maine card before that hit the skids as well. None of that compared to the biggest loss of all, when Green’s 23-year-old brother Mitchell Wayne Davis Jr. was killed in a drive-by shooting. All of a sudden, being thankful for what you have took on a whole new meaning.

On his next entry, Amoussou anticipates the simple shove and pins Gonzalez on the fence but he circles off and escapes before anything happens. Another spinning back fist misses for Amoussou. Gonzalez shoots a labored takedown and Amoussou shrugs it off. Blood streaming freely down the face of Amoussou from a cut on his forehead. Gonzalez scores with a right as Amoussou lands a low kick. Gonzalez lands a right betwixt an uppercut and low kick from Amoussou. Another low kick from the Frenchman. Gonzalez catches his next kick attempt and lands a takedown with just under a minute left. Short elbows to the body from Gonzalez in half guard. Gonzalez thuds a right elbow and lands two shoulder strikes. 10-9 Gonzalez for a 29-28 his way on my card.

Matt Brown: The Quiet Storm of The Immortal

Matt Brown’s intensity is a tangible, living, breathing thing. Yet, his presentation is as calm as the Ohio skies in June. That’s a testament to the personal growth he’s experienced after nearly a decade spent testing his own personal will, and breaking those of others in the fire of hand-to-hand combat.  Brown doesn’t step into the Octagon to shake hands and “bro hug;” he’s there to shred and destroy, and it’s a job he does far better than most. That said, the 33-year-old Columbus native wasn’t always the “Apex predator” of the welterweight fold. In fact, the hard-scrabble father of two spent several years on the opposite end of the conflict equation. It certainly wasn’t for a lack of trying, as Brown’s natural determination and grit has always been remarkable, but the complex formula required to find success on the sport’s most prominent proving ground can be a taxing thing to fuse together on fight night. Following his stint on the seventh season of The Ultimate Fighter, “The Immortal” stepped into the ranks of the UFC roster and battled to carve out his place. When success came it often did so in brutal fashion, as his punishing reputation was built upon highlight finishes at the expense of veterans such as Pete Sell and James Wilks .

Bellator 122 Results: Play-by-Play & Updates

Matt Frembling vs. Augusto Sakai Round 1 Sakai circles the outside with a low stance, looking to counter the southpaw Frembling. Sakai flicks some teeps to keep his man away, but Frembling keeps stalking. Frembling finally uncoils a hard left, his first strike of the bout, that stuns Sakai and sends him to the mat. Frembling sets up in full guard along the fence, taking a wide base and grinding down on Sakai. He breaks Sakai's grip on his wrists and lands a volley of clean punches. Frembling starts landing his left on top, getting the blood flowing from Sakai's mouth. Frembling keeps knuckling him up until there is 70 seconds in the round and Sakai slides up the fence and back to his feet. The Temecula, Calif. mative keeps advancing on Sakai but can't land clean. Frembling runs into the clinch, where he eats a host of knees from Sakai. Sakai lands another hard knee which is thrown just a split second after the bell and it drops Frembling to his back. Referee Jason Herzog says the knee was thrown at the bell, and thus legal, and asks Frembling if he can continue. Frembling gives him a thumbs up and goes back to his corner.

Robbie Lawler Keeps It Moving

As the great resurgence of Robbie Lawler continues, the fistic artist known as “Ruthless” doesn’t blink when it comes to a schedule that would make most fighters cower, or at least hit the ‘ignore’ button when they see UFC matchmaker Joe Silva’s name on the caller ID. With three fights and nearly 11 rounds in since last November, and potentially five more on the docket in this Saturday’s FOX main event against Matt Brown , Lawler is just happy to be working. “It’s a good thing because it keeps me in the gym, keeps me training, and keeps me getting better,” he said. “I’m getting stronger, getting faster, and there’s not much time to rest and get lazy, that’s for sure.” Ten years ago, the answer from Lawler may have been that a busy schedule was good because it would keep him out of the trouble 22 year olds tend to get into. But as a 32-year-old married father, Lawler is still Lawler, just a refined version of the wild child knockout artist, one whose time with family and friends, as well as his work in the gym, takes precedence over everything else. That doesn’t mean he won’t look back fondly at the good ol’ days.

Pros Pick: Lawler vs. Brown

Robbie Lawler seeks a second shot at UFC welterweight gold. | photo: Jeff Sherwood/ Robbie Lawler and Matt Brown are the last men standing in the “Bigg Rigg” sweepstakes. American Top Team ’s Lawler will meet the surging Brown in the UFC on Fox 12 main event on Saturday at the SAP Center in San Jose, Calif., with the winner all but assured a shot at reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight titleholder Johny Hendricks . Lawler has posted a 4-1 record since returning to 170 pounds, a contentious unanimous decision defeat to Hendricks the lone blemish. Long established as one of MMA’s premier power punchers, the 32-year-old last fought at UFC 173 in May, when he scored a third-round technical knockout on Jake Ellenberger at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Brown has rattled off seven consecutive victories in emerging as the unlikeliest of title contenders. The onetime journeyman last competed at a UFC Fight Night event in May, when he took down the talented but enigmatic Erick Silva with third-round punches at the U.

Jorge Masvidal on Donald Cerrone: 'I'll kick his a** -- I want some easy money'

Cerrone was supposed to meet Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 178, but minutes after the bout agreement was signed, Nurmagomedov ripped up his knee. He's out indefinitely, leaving Cerrone without a fight. "Cowboy" could end up getting the winner of Saturday's fight between Josh Thomson and Bobby Green, another serious lightweight contender encounter. Masvidal, though, hopes he's the one getting the call.

27 Fighter Dogs Power Rankings: Part Two

Hey fight fans, remember several months ago when I ranked the dogs owned by professional mixed martial artists ? Well, as soon as I started sharing that post, I was told how much of a big dummy I am for not including several other punchmans and punchwomens pooches on the list. Since I hate to disappoint, I’ve scoured the realms of twitter and instagram, looking for fighters with fantastic dogs I could then rank in the second installment of FIGHTER DOGS POWER RANKINGS.

Outside the Octagon: The Underdog No Longer

In another time and place, Matt Brown and Robbie Lawler probably would have been the best of friends. Both are no nonsense individuals, family men, and the kind of people that like the simpler things in life. Unfortunately, in this time and place, when they meet it will be with gloves on, and you know what happens after that. Of course, neither is bothered by such a prospect. This is the fight business and it’s what they signed up for – to fight. They’re not here to make friends, give interviews, or smile for the camera, and this approach to their life’s work has endeared them to the fans that will show up at the SAP Center in San Jose to watch them fight in a bout that will headline this weekend’s FOX-televised card. It’s a prime piece of real estate Lawler was supposed to occupy from the first time he stepped into the Octagon in 2002 as a precocious 20-year-old knockout artist and one Brown, whose record once sat at 14-11, wasn’t expected to ever see. But the fight game’s a funny place. Not “ha ha” funny, but odd. In movies and in mainstream thinking, guys like Brown and Lawler aren’t headliners.

UFC on Fox 12 Weigh-In Results: Robbie Lawler, Matt Brown Hit Marks for Title Eliminator

Editor's note: This story was updated at 1:08 a.m. ET on July 26 to reflect the fact that neither Matt Brown nor Juliana de Lima Carneiro will be fined for failure to make weight. Through-the-roof anticipation precedes the Robbie Lawler - Matt Brown showdown in the Ultimate Fighting Championship ’s cutthroat welterweight division, but the underdog failed to clear his first hurdle. Brown checked in at 172.5 pounds at Friday's official weigh-in and did not attempt to shed the excess weight. He was originally going to be fined 20 percent of his purse. However, according to a report on, because Brown was directed not to cut more weight by a California State Athletic Commission doctor, he will not be penalized. Lawler (171) met his contracted weight requirement ahead of their five-round title eliminator in the UFC on Fox 12 main event on Saturday at the SAP Center in San Jose, Calif., with the winner expected to lock down a shot at reigning welterweight champion Johny Hendricks . Light heavyweight co-headliners Anthony Johnson (204.5) and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (205.

Nogueira Tries to Write His Rocky Story

Rogerio Nogueira coulda been a contender. In boxing. A Bronze medalist in the 2007 Pan American Games and a 2006 and 2007 amateur champion in his home country, the Bahia native had the potential to be that rarity of rarities – a serious Brazilian threat in the sweet science. The fact that he was having this success in the amateur boxing ranks while he was beating fighters like Dan Henderson and Alistair Overeem and engaging in a classic with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua makes his prowess even more impressive. But he isn’t looking back with any what ifs. “I’m just focused on MMA,” said Nogueira, who takes on Anthony Johnson in the UFC Fight Night co-main event in San Jose this Saturday. “At this point I just want to go back and beat the top-notch guys and be back at the top. I won a bronze medal in the Pan American Games, but I have no regrets. My focus is on the UFC, and I’m really happy to be fighting Anthony Johnson right now.” He means it too. Returning to the Octagon for the first time since his UFC 156 win over Rashad Evans in February of 2013 (if you want a frame of reference for how long he’s been out, that’s before Ronda Rousey even debuted in the UFC), Nogueira is healthy, happy, and loose before this week’s fight, a trio of traits that he hasn’t felt in a long time.

Adidas Announces Partnership with UFC Welterweight Contender Robbie Lawler

Robbie Lawler sported Adidas gear during Thursday’s open workouts. | Jeff Sherwood/ UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks has Reebok. Now, Robbie Lawler , the division’s potential No. 1 contender, has Adidas. The athletic apparel company officially announced a partnership with Lawler on Friday. “Ruthless” is believed to be the first mixed martial artist to be sponsored by Adidas, which is the second largest sportswear manufacturer in the world behind Nike. According to a UFC official, Lawler will not be allowed to wear Adidas gear to or in the Octagon on Saturday, when he squares off with Matt Brown in the UFC on Fox 12 headliner at the SAP Center in San Jose, Calif. If Lawler wins, a rematch with Hendricks appears to be the next logical stop. The American Top Team product dropped a narrow unanimous verdict against “Bigg Rigg” at UFC 171 in Dallas this past March. We are excited to announce our partnership with @ruthless_rl #Ruthless #adidasMMA #RobbieLawler #UFConFOX12 — adidasCombatUSA (@AdidasCombatUSA) July 25, 2014 Hendricks, meanwhile, signed a deal with Reebok ahead of his UFC 167 matchup with Georges St.

'Grown-up' Robbie Lawler now ready for everything it means to be elite in the UFC

"I'm ready for the stage now," Lawler said. "Before, I wasn’t ready for the stage. I didn’t want to do these interviews. I didn’t want to be in front of the cameras. I just wanted to beat people up and get the hell out of here."

UFC on FOX 12's Juliana Lima dropped to strawweight to hang with American strength

“It’s a good thing this happened. Now I know what it’s like to fight on a bigger stage. I regret what happened, but I feel it would never happen again. I don’t want to take anything away from Katja, who’s a great fighter. But I feel I lost more to myself. At the end of that fight, I had no scuffs, no bumps, and no feelings. Everyone who knows me didn’t recognize me in that fight. I would have preferred to have lost by submission or knockout. I became very motivated after that. My next opponent, I finished her in only 1:08. But I still have a lot more to dish out.”

UFC on FOX: Lawler vs. Brown - Clay Guida vs. Dennis Bermudez Preview and Prognostication

After all, on the feet, it;s hard to say. Bermudez is a solid striker in a firefight. He hits hard, and can throw in volume. Guida has improved by way of addition by subtraction. His striking used to look similar to Bermudez in heated exchanges, but now Guida uses movement to score strikes when his opponent is flat footed. And yes, by head movement I mean mosh pitting. Lately he hasn't used it the way it began against Gomi, but it's proven to be effective in small doses.

Niklas Backstrom vs. Mike Wilkinson booked for UFC Fight Night 53 in Stockholm

Backstrom, who fights in his home country, looks to extend his unbeaten run as a five-year pro. Most recently, the well-rounded 24-year-old made his promotional debut and scored a submission victory over Tom Niinimaki at UFC Fight Night 41 in Berlin. The victory, which marked his sixth stoppage in eight career wins, netted him a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus.

Before You Leave the Office Today, Watch Matt Brown Knock Out Mike Pyle in 29 Seconds [VIDEO]

Welcome to the UFC Richard Odoms

Odoms throws pawing strikes and kicks from the outside, looking for opportunities to load up on harder shots, or get into the clinch and cage control. While he still packs a lot of power in even small shots, his tentativeness on the outside, does make him a pretty easy target for well timed takedowns, as he tends to stand tall. When he does find a comfortable rhythm, Odoms tends to throw kicks with regularity and speed. His hands, are another matter. Punches tend to come as big, telegraphed sweeping strikes; huge hooks and uppercuts that opponents can see coming, but are powerful enough to do serious damage if they land. Essentially, he's the kind of competent heavyweight brawler that is dangerous in any fight, but will have trouble winning consistently with his current skill set.

'Raw' deal: UFC's Matt Brown has no filter, for better or worse

Brown put his foot in his mouth (again) Thursday at open workouts in advance of his title eliminator bout with Robbie Lawler at UFC Fight Night on Saturday here at SAP Center (FOX, 8 p.m.). The Ohio native, a perennial underdog, was asked by a reporter when he would ever be a favorite in a fight. Brown's response was less than couth.

Karo Parisyan: If I’m in Shape, I Can Take the Bellator Title with My Eyes Closed

Karo Parisyan believes he has plenty left in the tank. | Dave Mandel/ At times, it can seem like even Karo Parisyan isn’t quite sure what to make of himself. In one breath, the judo ace is defiantly predicting a resurgence in the sport. The next, it seems like he’d be just fine without mixed martial arts altogether. Such is the contradictory nature of “The Heat,” a man who fought Georges St. Pierre in his second UFC bout, beat Nick Diaz in his fourth and was out of the Las Vegas-based promotion completely before he turned 30. Tonight, the 31-year-old Parisyan will face Phil Baroni in a featured bout at Bellator 122 at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, Calif. In many ways, the matchup is the evening’s most interesting, if only because Parisyan and Baroni are two recognizable names hoping to recapture past glory. However, not all of that recognition is positive. Both Parisyan and Baroni have lost more than they’ve won lately, but that is something the Armenian expects to change – at least when it comes to himself.

Bellator MMA Veteran Cosmo Alexandre Steps in on Short Notice at Lion Fight 17

Lion Fight has changed its plans for Aug. 1's Lion Fight 17, as the main event pitting Thepnimint Sitmonchai against Dean James has been scrapped. The Las Vegas-based promotion needed to replace “Mr. Knock” Sitmonchai after he encountered international travel issues involving his visa. Also, James incurred an injury in training. Moving into top billing will be the rematch featuring Malaipet Sasiprapa versus Justin Greskiewicz . In a late addition to the event, former Bellator MMA fighter Cosmo Alexandre will compete against Jo Nattawut. “As the premier promotion in muay Thai, fans trust that we will deliver a world class night of fights with each and every Lion Fight event,” said CEO Scott Kent in a press release. “I’m pleased to announce that we met this challenge in securing World Muay Thai Champion and fan favorite Mailaipet vs. Justin Greskiewicz 2 as Lion Fight 17’s main event, and in signing Cosmo Alexandre, one of the best Muay Thai fighters in the world, for the co-main event vs. Jo Nattawut, a world class Thai athlete who’s excited for this opportunity to take on Cosmo.
