Sherdog Boxing: The Weekly Wrap

50 Cent Stays Silent on Floyd Mayweather Beef But Chats Kendrick Lamar https://t.co/7PAeqDSMM5 — TMZ (@TMZ) July 26, 2018 A few weeks back, we reported that Floyd Mayweather was getting sued for no showing a Nigerian club but allegedly keeping the money they sent him. This week was no better for Floyd’s checkbook, as a California appeals court ruled a defamation lawsuit against him could go forward . The lawsuit was brought forward by his ex-girlfriend Josie Harris, after he told Katie Couric she was on drugs during a 2015 domestic incident in which he “restrained her.” This week also saw Floyd renew his battle with onetime friend, rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. The fight renewed when Mayweather called Jackson a snitch on Instagram, which led Jackson to share the police report from Mayweather’s domestic assault. However, the feud hit an apex when Jackson accused Mayweather of being the cause of a woman’s murder . Jermell Charlo Accused of Choking a Woman Unfortunately, old domestic incidents by retired fighters weren’t the only run-ins with the law in boxing this week.

Infographic: Professional Fighters League Season 1 Featherweight Playoff Standings

As the inaugural regular season of Professional Fighters League nears its conclusion, one of the most interesting divisions is certainly featherweight. A bit of a dark horse coming into the season, Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran Steven Siler has already clinched his playoff berth -- and the No. 1 overall seed -- with two first-round submission victories. Other fighters who have punched their tickets to the playoffs and a shot at the $1 million divisional prize include fellow UFC expat Lance Palmer and 19-0 grinder Andre Harrison . To add to the playoff intrigue, Palmer and Harrison can both count decision wins over the “Super” top seed on their ledgers. Among the disappointments of the season so far has been Marcos Galvao . The longtime top-10 fixture in the 145-pound division left Bellator MMA on a two-fight skid, but any hope of a career renaissance in PFL was dashed quickly, along with any shot at the grand prize, as the 36 year-old submission specialist was eliminated from playoff contention in dispiriting losses to Max Coga and fellow Bellator veteran Nazareno Malegarie .

Twitter Mailbag: All that build-up between Tyron Woodley and Colby Covington, and now this?!

Point is, if you make a fight where you’re only interested in one outcome, there’s always a chance you won’t get it. There’s an even greater chance with “prospects,” since they’re still growing and finding their way. It’s one thing to refrain from overmatching someone too soon, which can ruin a fighter. But this isn’t the kind of business where you can pave an easy path to the top for those still just learning how to walk it.

Cruz revealed his current injury status at a media event on Thursday , and he finally had some good news to share with fight fans: “I don’t know, I just got cleared by the doctor so I’m good to go,” said Cruz. “I’ll talk to (UFC matchmaker Sean) Shelby, I’ll talk to everybody. I’m on track though. So I will be going to fight. I’m going to fight before the end of the year is my goal so we’ll see what happens. ... I know T.J. Jeremy Stephens: Beating Jose Aldo puts me in 'undeniable situation' for UFC title shot

Everybody who’s on this journey in the lightweight division, everybody’s tough. Dustin’s went against the best guys, put on hell of fights. He’d be a fool to think that about me. He don’t know me. UFC Welterweight Jake Matthews Uses Twitter, Humor To Lobby Sage Northcutt For a Fight

Shit just got real!@ufc @sagenorthcutt pic.twitter.com/CMR9Q3CCAW — Jake Matthews (@JakeMatthewsUFC) July 20, 2018 Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight Jake Matthews is doing his best on Twiiter to get the attention of another welterweight, Sage Northcutt . The 23 year-old Australian initially reached out to Northcutt on Twitter on 19 July with a cheeky photoshopped image of the pair standing side by side above a “The Ultimate Fighter – Young Guns!” banner. Northcutt didn’t reply, so Matthews tried his hand again asking “Super Sage” not to ignore him. Dear Mr Northcutt, your normally very polite, but I'm sure you know it's rude to ignore folks.@sagenorthcutt @ufc pic.twitter.com/UK7juCjl2W — Jake Matthews (@JakeMatthewsUFC) July 24, 2018 Matthews and Northcutt are two of the youngest fighters on the roster, both fight in the welterweight division and both are riding three-fight winning streaks. Alex Munoz Spoils Nick Newell’s UFC Bid on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series

Alex Munoz (5-0) spoils the coming-out party of Nick Newell, as the former Oklahoma State wrestler imposes grappling dominance over the amputee. Landing hard single shots, repeated takedowns and thudding ground n'pound, the Alpha Male rep captures a unanimous decision. #DWTNCS pic.twitter.com/G2WkOXPke0 — Tanuki Usman (@Hamderlei) July 25, 2018 Nick Newell had designs on an Ultimate Fighting Championship contract. Alex Munoz had other plans. In his first appearance since Nov. 19, 2016, Team Alpha Male ’s Munoz bloodied Newell’s nose with jabs, kept him off-balance with takedowns and took a three-round unanimous decision in their featured lightweight pairing on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series in Las Vegas. All three cageside judges scored it the same: 30-27 for Munoz (5-0). Outside of an attempted guillotine choke in the third round and a few front kicks to the face, Newell (14-2) struggled to string together meaningful offense. Munoz asserted his superiority in top position in all three rounds, and though the finish eluded him, he did more than enough to lock down a convincing victory.

"Just waiting on Bellator to send me a contract. My manager keeps saying soon. I just hope they figure it out soon so I can fight and get paid." He has not fought since winning the belt against Chandler via first-round TKO due to injury in June 2017. "I've been easing back into training," Primus said. "I haven't been sparring really hard yet but my knee feels good. I asked for a 12-week fight camp since I'm coming off an injury and haven't been as active as usual. We'll see." The obvious fight to make is the Chandler rematch, however, according to multiple sources Chandler has yet to re-sign with the promotion. Talks are ongoing, sources say.
