Paulie Malignaggi Critical of Conor McGregor's Knockout Power for Boxing |

“It’s definitely above average. I wouldn’t say it’s ‘oh my god’ power,” Malignaggi said about McGregor. “There’s what I call ‘oh my god’ power when somebody hits you even in sparring and you’re like oh my god. Like wow, this guy really hits hard. I’ve been in with guys, even in this past year I sparred a guy named Amir Imam, who’s a 140-pound contender in Miami and I remember thinking wow this guy’s got oh my god power and he’s 140-pound contender in boxing.

Forever Haunted

The ringing inside his head lasted for years and always afflicted him around the same time. Andre Harrison would instinctively wake from a sound sleep groping for something in the darkness, a mystery “The Bull” will never solve. It had its effects six year ago, spilling over into more than enough sleepless nights that Harrison cares to remember. The ennui carried over into his real life. It was if he was walking in a daze, his eyelids hovering at half-mast, dark circles forming under each eye. His feet would drag through the Bellmore Kickboxing Academy in Bellmore, New York, to the point where everyone noticed. “What’s wrong with Andre?” they asked. Harrison feels that those tough times, when he psychologically balanced a family tragedy with a bewildering occurrence soon after, forged these good times. He is 16-0 and scheduled to defend his featherweight championship against Steven Rodriguez in the Professional Fighters League “Everett” main event on Saturday at Xfinity Arena in Everett, Washington. Harrison is strong-willed, intelligent, fast, quick and explosive, and he finds himself on the cusp of being one of top 10 featherweights in the world.

Opinion: Where’s the Buzz?

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. * * * The biggest Ultimate Fighting Championship card of the year is this Saturday night, and it doesn’t feel very big. Sure, there’s little doubt that UFC 214 , with the second Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones fight, will sell better than any previous UFC pay-per-view event so far in 2017. And that’s especially true with Cristiane Justino in her first UFC title fight, a third title fight pitting Tyron Woodley against Demian Maia , and Robbie Lawler vs. Donald Cerrone as support on the main card. But just how big is that? Cormier has only been a little bit above the baseline as a draw, and Jones’ last return, against Ovince St. Preux on short notice, was a disappointment both at the box office and on pay-per-view. Their first fight, while a hit, doing somewhere in the neighborhood of 800,000 buys, was coming off of months of hype following two huge viral videos, one of which was a brawl at a media event.

Louis Taylor Embracing Uncertainty Ahead of Professional Fighters League Debut

The last time the mixed martial arts world saw Louis Taylor inside the cage, he lost a spirited battle with David Branch for the World Series of Fighting middleweight title last December. “Put the Guns Down” has been anxious to get back into the realm of combat in an effort to land another crack at a world title. Unfortunately, the Chicago native’s path back to action has been slow and while he knows he’ll continue fighting, he doesn’t know what his future holds. Taylor is a former WSOF fighter among many who are now fighting for the new Professional Fighters League and while the promotion has made bold claims about its future plans, Taylor is unsure. “I honestly have no idea what’s going on with me and them,” Taylor told in a recent interview. “I was in the WSOF and last year they said they weren’t going anywhere, but then a few months later they sold and became the Professional Fighters League. So, no, I honestly have no idea what to expect.” To interpret his words as sour or frustrated wouldn’t be fair, however.

Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Justino: 5 Defining Moments

She has been a weapon of mass destruction for well over a decade. Cris Cyborg will take on Tonya Evinger for the vacant Ultimate Fighting Championship women’s featherweight title at UFC 214 “Cormier vs. Jones 2” this Saturday at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. It would serve as the Brazilian juggernaut’s crown jewel in a trophy case that already includes championships in Invicta and Strikeforce . Defined by overwhelming physical tools and the unbridled ferocity to match, “Cyborg” has finished seven consecutive opponents since her 16-second knockout of Hiroko Yamanaka was overturned due to a positive test for steroids in 2011. Justino, 32, last appeared in the UFC Fight Night 95 main event on Sept. 24, when she cut down Lina Lansberg with second-round punches to improve to 2-0 inside the Octagon. In a career marked by defining moments, here are five that stand out: 1. Not Quite Perfect “Cyborg” suffered her first and only MMA defeat in her professional debut. It happened at Show Fight 2 on May 17, 2005 in Curitiba, Brazil.

UFC 214 Statistical Matchup Analysis: Cormier vs. Jones 2

Keep your fingers crossed. Two and a half years have passed since then-champion Jon Jones and current champion Daniel Cormier first squared off for the undisputed Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight title. While Jones took the unanimous decision victory that night, their respective careers could not have gone in more separate directions. Jones went on to get stripped of the title after a series of extracurricular mishaps, while Cormier proceeded to claim the championship and defend it twice while “Bones” was on the sidelines. Jones briefly made a comeback in April 2016 at UFC 197, where he won an underwhelming but definitive decision against Ovince St. Preux for the interim title, setting up a highly anticipated rematch with Cormier at UFC 200 three months later. Of course, he was pulled just three days out from the fight and stripped of his interim title after testing positive for banned substances in a pre-fight drug test. This will be his first fight back after serving a one-year suspension for the United States Anti-Doping Agency violation.

Jake Shields: Danny Davis Jr. ‘Not in Same League’ as Previous Opponents

A fighter with the talent and legacy such as Jake Shields is always a frightening proposition for an upcoming opponent. Fighting a Jake Shields who is stuck in the midst of a two-fight losing streak is something not every MMA fighter can prepare for. And though he admits that he’s in a must-win situation, Shields says he’s not desperate. “I’m definitely in a situation where I need to win,” Shields told in a recent interview. “But I don’t think that I’m desperate. Yeah, I lost two in a row but it wasn’t like I got dominated. I thought I got robbed in that fight against [Rousimar] Palhares because I thought I was dominating him until he gouged my eye. I fell apart in that fight once that happened. And then with [Jon] Fitch, well, he’s one of the best in the world.” Shields is set to face Danny Davis Jr. in one of the featured bouts of Professional Fighters League: Everett on Saturday night at Xfinity Arena in Everett, Wash. Davis is a solid professional who has been around the block for nearly a decade, but Shields admits that he’s not overly worried about what he’ll try inside the cage.

Sherdog’s Top 10: MMA Dream Matches - Top 10

Nothing moves the needle quite like a blockbuster prizefight. Former five-division boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. will come out of retirement to face reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight titleholder Conor McGregor on Aug. 26 in a groundbreaking boxing match at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The build-up for the fight began with a four-day, four-city press tour that took the two participants from Los Angeles and Toronto to Brooklyn, New York, and London. Their verbal barbs ranged from clever to downright embarrassing but nevertheless had the masses talking. The push figures to continue for the next month. Some see it as a circus. Others see it as a dream matchup. With the eyes of the combat sports world centered on the forthcoming Mayweather-McGregor showdown, the latest installment in the Sherdog Top 10 series focuses on dream matches between mixed martial artists who have not yet fought each other. *** OTHERS RECEIVING VOTES: Tony Ferguson vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov , Daniel Cormier vs. Cain Velasquez , Justin Gaethje vs.

Josh Gross Joins Press Row

Every Thursday, Administrative Editor Jordan Breen welcomes a member of the mixed martial arts media into “Press Row” on the blog. This week, Breen is joined by veteran MMA journalist Josh Gross , now of The Guardian. We're just days away of the most hotly anticipated rematch in MMA history, a fight that could cap or continue the most intense rivalry the sport has ever seen, with Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones finally rematching over the UFC light heavyweight title at UFC 214 . There's no shortage of angles to tackle Cormier-Jones 2, so Breen and Gross hit as many as possible to put the showdown in its historical context. The two discuss the rivalry's similarities to and differences from that of Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier, competition and hatred as essential components of a great rivalry, how psychology informed strategy for both fighters in their first meeting and why it should again in the rematch, how a second loss to Jones will define Cormier's legacy and what the future will be for the newly-unrepentant version of “Bones,” in victory or defeat. Grab your credential and get a seat in “Press Row.

Tonya Evinger says UFC 214 title fight with 'Cyborg' Justino has rematch clause

“Me and Cris have the same manager, so it’s just one of them things,” Evinger said at today’s UFC 214 open workouts. “I think he does a great job, and he knows what he’s looking for, and he’s experienced enough to know what I need if I do win this fight. I’m not obviously going to win the title then go down to 135, that makes no sense. I’ll fight 145, 135, 125, just to get as much fights in as a I can before I have to retire too old. I’m going to fight as much as they’ll give me opportunities.”

Brock Lesnar on Potential Superfight with Jon Jones: ‘Anytime, Anywhere’

A Brock Lesnar vs. Jon Jones superfight seems highly unlikely given the current circumstances, but in the era of Mayweather vs. McGregor, perhaps anything is possible. The hypothetical bout recently became a hot topic when Jones addressed a showdown with Lesnar during a UFC Facebook chat this week. “I would love to fight Brock Lesnar. He’s a massive dude. It would be a massive draw, really big for the sport. It would be a great challenge; that’s a big old boy,” Jones said. “I doubt Brock Lesnar would take that fight, though. I definitely wouldn’t try to wrestle with him the whole time. I’m not going to tell you what I would do.” Jones will return to the Octagon for the first time since April 2016 when he attempts to regain light heavyweight gold in a rematch with Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 on Saturday in Anaheim, Calif. He was supposed to face Cormier at UFC 200 last summer but was pulled from the card after testing positive for estrogen blockers in a pre-fight drug test. Lesnar, meanwhile, competed on that same card, taking a unanimous decision over Mark Hunt in his first UFC appearance since December 2011.

UFC 214 media day face-offs: The non-title (but still good) fights edition

In the main event, light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier (19-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) defends his title in a highly anticipated rematch with Jon Jones (22-1 MMA, 16-1 UFC). The co-headliner features champion welterweight champion Tyron Woodley (17-3-1 MMA, 7-2-1 UFC) defending against Demian Maia (25-6 MMA, 19-6 UFC). Also, Cristiane Justino (17-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) and Tonya Evinger (19-5 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will square off for the vacant women’s featherweight belt.

Twitter Mailbag: Between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier, who needs UFC 214 win more?

But it’s the fans who could face the biggest downside. It can get confusing trying to keep up with too many different divisions and champions, especially if fighters keep jumping between them. And some weight classes are already low on talent. If you create more divisions that may siphon fighters from already shallow divisions, and then what does it mean to be the UFC champion of a weight class with only five or six people in it?

So it’s just going to be a really good fight, and an explosive fight. This is the kind of fight that’s not going to go past the first or second round. That’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to go full power, and I’m going to knock Jimi out in the first round.”
