The Film Room: Olivier Aubin-Mercier vs. Alexander Hernandez

Alexander Hernandez stunned the MMA world in his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut at UFC 222, where he knocked out Beneil Dariush in the first round on just two weeks’ notice. Instead of a step down in competition, Hernandez will face Olivier Aubin-Mercier in a UFC on Fox 30 lightweight showcase this Saturday in Calgary, Alberta. This installment of The Film Room sheds some light on their showdown. Rise of ‘The Quebec Kid’ Aubin-Mercier got a late start in MMA, but the lifelong martial artist has slowly worked his way up the ranks in the UFC while developing his skills to become a well-rounded fighter. He grew up training judo and competed for the Canadian national team, winning a variety of medals. He started his mixed martial arts training with Firas Zahabi in 2011 and quickly became one of the Tristar Gym general’s star students. Aubun-Mercier now holds a black belt in judo, a brown belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and a blue belt in taekwondo. Aubin-Mercier perfectly manifests the Zahabi system, and his skills are eerily similar to Tristar standout Georges St.

Ex-Champ Jose Aldo Admits Doubting Ability to Win Heading Into UFC on Fox 30

After so long at the top of the division, Jose Aldo ’s recent struggles caused him to question himself. Regarded by many as the greatest featherweight of all time, Aldo entered UFC on Fox 30 with losses in three of his last four Octagon appearances. That included decisive back-to-back losses to current 145-pound champion Max Holloway , which might have led to the Brazilian being tabbed as a slight underdog against surging foe Jeremy Stephens . While Aldo might no longer be at the peak of his powers, he showed that he is still a force to be reckoned with, as he folded Stephens with a wicked body shot and sealed his victory with follow-up ground-and-pound 4:19 into round one of their co-headlining bout in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on Saturday night. The Nova Uniao star admitted to having something of a crisis of confidence before the emphatic victory. “I’m feeling amazing, it brought tears to my eyes because I came from two losses and I even questioned myself if I was capable to win again,” Aldo said. “I had a great training camp, my teammates and coaches always telling me I was still the champion, so I got really excited with this win, especially because of those who supported me all the time, through good and bad.

UFC on FOX 30 bonuses: Dustin Poirier, Jose Aldo among $50,000 winners in Calgary

Poirier (24-5 MMA, 16-4 UFC) and Eddie Alvarez (29-6 MMA, 4-3 UFC) finally got a chance to run back their fight from May 2017, which ended in a no-contest after Alvarez landed illegal knees. And this time around, there was a modicum of controversy, too. With Alvarez mounted in the second round, he threw a 12-to-6 elbow near Poirier’s head, and referee Marc Goddard stopped the fight to warn Alvarez and take his dominant position away.

Khabib Nurmagomedov's plan for Conor McGregor is to 'change his face ... his mind, too'

I want to change his face. Of course, with face I can change his mind, too.”
