Dustin Poirier Stops Eddie Alvarez in UFC on Fox 30 Headliner

Dustin Poirier and Eddie Alvarez fought over a year ago, but their duel ended in a lousy “No Contest.” The two vowed redemption and a thrilling fight; both predicted a knockout. They were both right and the fight more than lived up to expectations as they waged one of the best wars of 2018 thus far. However, Alvarez couldn’t withstand the Louisiana native’s crushing power as Poirier ended things in spectacular fashion in the second round at UFC on Fox 30 . The two lightweights stood toe-to-toe and traded submission attempts on the ground, but when the combatants were restarted in the center of the ring when referee Marc Goddard scolded Alvarez for an illegal elbow, everything changed. “The Diamond” ruined his foe’s equilibrium with a knee to the head and chased Alvarez into the cage. From there, he unloaded everything in his arsenal: punches, knees, kicks, elbows. Alvarez threw haymakers out of desperation but missed, only to finally crumble under a barrage of punches. Goddard had no choice but to pull Poirier off “The Underground King,” giving him the TKO win at 4:05 of the second frame.

Matches to Make After UFC on Fox 30

Dustin Poirier finished his business with Eddie Alvarez with a cataclysmic flurry of punches, elbows and knee strikes. No one could have expected anything less. Poirier buried the former Ultimate Fighting Championship and Bellator MMA lightweight titleholder with his blitzkrieg in the second round of their UFC on Fox 30 headliner on Saturday at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta. Alvarez went out on his shield 4:05 into Round 2, unable to keep up with a man five years his junior. A competitive first round gave way to a wild second, touched off by a pair of attempted guillotine chokes from Poirier. Alvarez scrambled to his back, locked in a neck crank and transitioned to a seated mount at the base of the cage. A 12-to-6 elbow to the shoulder cost Alvarez his dominant position and necessitated a warning from referee Marc Goddard . After the restart, Poirier unleashed his ordnance. He followed a straight left with a thudding knee to the chest that sent Alvarez careening backward. Poirier pushed the Philadelphia native to the fence and let fly with knees, punches and kicks before a final well-placed elbow strike to the head sent his counterpart to the canvas and forced Goddard’s hand.

No head movement. Conor will freeze him and its lights out. Khabib has never faced anyone like Conor. When he fought MJ his guard was broken and same with the real estate agent ragin Al.

Eddie Alvarez coach Mark Henry: Illegal elbow my fault at UFC Calgary

The most unfortunate part of the whole experience, Henry said, is that his actions reflect on his fighter and teammate. He repeatedly stressed Alvarez is not a dirty fighter. He also praised Poirier for clarifying that the illegal blow did not land to his head. While he notes Poirier did land an illegal groin shot during the action, he attributes the action to their fiercely competitive style matchup. The UFC lightweights’ first matchup at UFC 211 ended in controversial fashion when Alvarez threw a trio of illegal knees, resulting in a no contest .

Alexander Hernandez Displeased with His Performance Despite Win at UFC on Fox 30

Myself, my team, we are here to Devastate. There is no pride in participation. Last night, though dominating, was an unsatisfactory performance. I’ll be on my game next time. Thank you to all the viewers and supporters. Nothing but love — Alex Hernandez (@TheGreat155) July 29, 2018 The much hyped Ultimate Fighting Championship newcomer Alexander Hernandez isn’t thrilled with his performance on Saturday night despite his well-rounded effort, earning himself a victory over the Canadian Olivier Aubin-Mercier at UFC on Fox 30 held in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The 25 year-old went into the fight with a fair bit of hype following his stunning debut in the UFC back in March this year where he knocked out Beneil Dariush in just 42 seconds. Many fans were wondering if Hernandez could repeat a similar feat against the crafty grappler Aubin-Mercier, who was riding a four fight winning streak. Hernandez talked to the media after the fight to explain his disappointment in his own performance claiming he’s much better than what he showed against the Canadian on the weekend (via MMAJunkie.

Jones has all the talent in the world but he's too much of a head case, Cormier does everything right, he comes off as a prick but that man is one of the least gifted dudes in UFC and still managed to break everyone else's will other than Jon Jones. And he pushed Jones to "cheat"

Ex-Champ Jose Aldo Admits Doubting Ability to Win Heading Into UFC on Fox 30

After so long at the top of the division, Jose Aldo ’s recent struggles caused him to question himself. Regarded by many as the greatest featherweight of all time, Aldo entered UFC on Fox 30 with losses in three of his last four Octagon appearances. That included decisive back-to-back losses to current 145-pound champion Max Holloway , which might have led to the Brazilian being tabbed as a slight underdog against surging foe Jeremy Stephens . While Aldo might no longer be at the peak of his powers, he showed that he is still a force to be reckoned with, as he folded Stephens with a wicked body shot and sealed his victory with follow-up ground-and-pound 4:19 into round one of their co-headlining bout in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on Saturday night. The Nova Uniao star admitted to having something of a crisis of confidence before the emphatic victory. “I’m feeling amazing, it brought tears to my eyes because I came from two losses and I even questioned myself if I was capable to win again,” Aldo said. “I had a great training camp, my teammates and coaches always telling me I was still the champion, so I got really excited with this win, especially because of those who supported me all the time, through good and bad.

UFC on Fox 30 Bonuses: Poirier, Aldo, Makdessi, Pearson Receive $50K Checks

Dustin Poirier , Jose Aldo , John Makdessi and Ross Pearson all earned $50,000 bonus checks for their work at UFC on Fox 30 . Dustin Poirier pocketed a “Performance of the Night” award for a thrilling stoppage of Eddie Alvarez in Saturday’s headliner at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. After an illegal Alvarez elbow prompted a standup, Poirier emerged victorious during a wild second-round sequence, as he earned the technical knockout with a multi-faceted assault at the 4:05 mark of the period. Meanwhile, Aldo rebounded from a two-fight skid to capture the evening’s other “Performance of the Night” award for an emphatic stoppage of Jeremy Stephens in the featherweight co-main event. The Nova Uniao product folded his opponent with a brutal body shot before sealing the victory with ground-and-pound 4:19 into round one. Finally, Makdessi and Pearson garnered “Fight of the Night” honors for their three-round preliminary lightweight scrap. The veteran fighters traded willingly throughout the contest, especially during a thrilling third stanza that left Pearson bloodied and battered.

UFC on Fox 30 Prelims: Jordan Mein, Hakeem Dawodu Earn Unanimous Decision Victories

Canada’s Jordan Mein made the fans happy on Saturday by outlasting rugged Alex Morono over three rounds to earn a unanimous decision in the featured UFC on Fox 30 preliminary contest with scores of 29-28, 29-28 and 29-28. Morono forced Mein into a slugfest early on, but “Young Gun” eventually wised up and took his foe to the canvas. From there, Mein dominated Morono until the end, taking him down several times and avoiding the Houston fighter’s bombs. Morono locked in a mounted guillotine in the third, but “The Great White” couldn’t finish him off and wound up getting swept into side control late in the frame. Related » UFC Calgary Round-by-Round Scoring Dawodu Bounces Back Calgary native Hakeem Dawodu was never in any danger whatsoever in his fight with Austin Arnett , as he won a rather easy lopsided unanimous nod. “Mean” Hakeem peppered the American with vicious right and left hooks to the body, with plenty of leg kicks sprinkled in for good measure. And when Dawodu wasn’t landing those shots, he picked “Golden Boy” apart with lead straight and counter hooks up top.

From there, she thew short punches to the face and the body as Kubota desperately thew her hips in attempt to escape. Dustin Poirier addresses Eddie Alvarez's illegal elbow and "wet willy" |

In May of 2017, Dustin Poirier and Eddie Alvarez met in a thrilling fight that unfortunately ended in controversy, as Alvarez landed an illegal knee and the bout was ruled a no contest. 14 months later, in the main event of last Saturday’s UFC on Fox 30 card, the pair met again. This time around, Poirier won by second-round TKO. Regrettably, the bout once again produced a significant dosage of controversy.

UFC on Fox 30 Draws Lowest Overnight Rating in Series History

Ratings are not improving as the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s broadcast deal with Fox draws to a close. Saturday’s UFC on Fox 30 card drew 1.461 million viewers, according to overnight ratings released via TV By the Numbers . That figure is the lowest since the Las Vegas-based promotion began airing cards on Fox in 2011. The final figures will be higher when factoring in viewers on the West Coast. The previous low overnight rating occurred earlier this year, when a UFC on Fox 27 card headlined by Ronaldo Souza and Derek Brunson drew 1.59 million viewers to the network on Jan. 27. UFC on Fox 30, which took place at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, featured a pair of promising all-action fights at the top of the card. In the main event, Dustin Poirier scored an entertaining second-round technical rematch against Eddie Alvarez , while ex-featherweight king Jose Aldo stopped Jeremy Stephens with a body shot and follow-up punches 4:19 into the opening round of the co-headliner. Former strawweight queen Joanna Jedrzejczyk was also on the main card, where she outpointed Tecia Torres in key 115-pound clash.
