Ray and a good friend (Shawn Wright) got together within 48 hours of the interview, and the roots for WSOF began taking hold. They would strike up a deal with Caesar's Entertainment Group and NBC Sports, which was in effect from their very first card and would see the promotion televised on the NBC Sports channel. Now, 10 cards later, they are graduating to the largest platform possible, NBC primetime.
UFC 175 results, photos: Kevin Casey crushes William 'Bubba' Bush with elbows
“Going into the fight, I knew that ‘Bubba’ was going to be a very big and tough middleweight,” Casey said. “I was very aware of his ability to strike and maintain his distance well. I tried to measure my distance accordingly and wait for the right opportunity to move in and strike. I opened him up with the elbow and then softened him with a shot to the body. Once he was down I continued to apply the elbow strikes until the ref moved in and stopped the fight.”

UFC champion Chris Weidman 'blessed' by inspirational 6-year-old, who was born without legs
Bird is a 6-year-old wrestler who is from Weidman's area in Long Island, N.Y. He also happened to have been born without legs. Before a charity event Weidman hosted at his gym in May, Bird and his mother were living in a homeless shelter and he had no wheelchair. The fundraiser accrued almost $15,000 and someone donated a wheelchair. The money will go into a trust for Bird and his mother is working on getting an apartment.

World Series of Fighting 11: Gaethje vs. Newell fight card preview
Serving as the main event in Daytona Beach, Florida are these two 11-0 fighters with a bright future in the sport ahead of them. Justin Gaethje is the lightweight champ and has looked like an unstoppable beast in World Series of Fighting. His speed, power, and brutally accurate striking has made him one of the top lightweights outside of the UFC. He's already dispatched such notable ex-UFCers such as Brian Cobb, Dan Lauzon, and Drew Fickett, and he won the title in less than 75 seconds against Rich Patishnock, who admittedly was a last minute replacement. Gaethje's diverse attacks set him apart from the rest of the division, particularly his usage of leg kicks, standing elbows, and knees.

WSOF 11. | Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com
Guillard made his
World Series of Fighting debut in impressive fashion on
Saturday, defeating Gesias
Cavalcante via technical knockout.
The victory served as a sort of redemption for Guillard, who
weighed in at 157.2 pounds for the lightweight contest at WSOF
11 . This was only the second time Guillard had missed weight in
his nearly 12-year MMA career, the first instance coming at UFC 150
in August 2012, when Guillard was overweight for a fight with
During an interview following his second-round victory against
“JZ,” Guillard shed some light on the reason that he missed the
required mark of 156 pounds.
“My only miscue was missing weight by a pound, and as a
professional, I take full responsibility for that,” Guillard said.
“But, at the same time, we had a super early weigh-in, and if I had
that last bit of extra time, it would have been a non-issue.”
With the victory over Cavalcante, the “Young Assassin” pushed his
record to 2-3 with 1 no-contest in his last six fights.

Herb Dean makes his first appearance tonight as the third man. They touch them up. Faber comes running in with a right hand, but can't score it. Caceres goes for a kick, and Faber grabs his leg and spins him down. Right back up. Now they swing around the post, and Faber pressuring there, trying to pry him off there. Faber relentless so far, and he shoots in for takedown. Caceres somersaults out, but it only stalls the inevitable, as Faber pursues. He had Caceres down on his back, now, and he goes to work from Leeroy's guard. So far Faber swarming; in the dominant position he's not methodical. Landing from in the guard, while Caceres crowds him from his back and returns elbows. Dogged pressure from Faber. He's driving Caceres along the fence, landing hard shots during the journey. Caceres simply unable to get up. Dean watches closely. Short punches from Faber to Caceres's ribcage and kidney area.

Dana White at fan Q & A on Anderson Silva vs. Nick Diaz: 'People want to see that fight'
LAS VEGAS - UFC president Dana White held his annual Fan Expo question-and-answer session with the fans on Saturday at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. As usual, the event was a mix of the serious, the less serious, and the absurd, ranging from detailed questions about the company's business to painful-to-watch attempts at business pitches.
UFC 175 fight card primer: Ronda Rousey vs. Alexis Davis
Bloody Elbow presents its fight primer coverage for UFC 175: Weidman vs. Machida from Las Vegas, Nevada. Here, we look at the co-main event, a women's bantamweight title fight between champion Ronda Rousey and Alexis Davis.
Daniel Cormier victorious in last ever wrestling bout at UFC Fan Expo
"It was a good finish," he said. "Now that I’m in the UFC and fighting in the UFC, and to do it at the Fan Expo, it means a lot. I guess it’s a symbol of completely finishing that chapter and moving onto the next chapter in my life. I can feel it now already there was something back with wrestling that I needed to get rid of, and now I can move on from it." "My next fight, the next time I get my hand raised, it will be in the cage against Jon Jones."
Welcome to the UFC Lauren Murphy
Athleticism and ground and grinding top control, to put it bluntly. Murphy's striking has been a work in progress and the fact that she's probably a better pure athlete than 99% of her competition means that she can have a little pop in her hands when she's putting them together well. But, at the moment, she remains a pretty mechanical striker without a lot of striking tools or polished technique. She has a hell of a chin though and a great general ability to soak up punishment while coming forward. In a division notable for it's lack of big power strikers, the ability to eat a few shots to get inside can take a lot of steam off fighters hoping to stick and move at range. Once inside her surprising, speed and strength really takes over and, coupled with her tenacity, helps her drag, trip, single and double leg her opponents to the ground where she has very solid top control, consistent, heavy ground and pound, and an inexhaustible ability to grind opponents down. Because much of her technique is very rough, it's easy to overlook that Murphy is probably one of the best pure athletes in the division, and as such presents real problems for everyone she faces.
Neiman Gracie knows nothing about his opponent, but that’s not a problem
"Unfortunately, I couldn’t find much about him on the internet," he said. "The only thing I know is that he’s from a good team in Daytona, where I’m fighting, and that he’s 2-0 as a pro. I couldn’t find much about him, but that’s not a problem. I have to focus on me, not on what he does best. Actually, that’s good and bad at the same time. It’s bad because I can’t study what he does best, but it’s also good because I can focus on me and what I can do best.
UFC 175 fight card: What's at stake?
At stake: the same thing in seemingly all Rousey bouts . There's no need to belabor this point. If Davis wins, that's obviously a huge upset worthy of all the compliments we can heap on it. It's extremely unlikely such an outcome will happen, but we can all imagine the shock and reevaluation of things that would go into it. If Davis manages to use her jiu-jitsu skills to do it, thereby following the (simplistic) media script about Rousey's deficiencies, that'd heighten the intensity of things. But the truth is, Rousey is faced yet again with another talented if nameless face if we are evaluating what the majority of fight fans are watching. Hardcore fans object to the idea this matters or that we should care, which is something akin to complaining about the oppressive nature of gravity or unfair restrictions of mortality. It's not up to us to decide whether it's good or bad, it simply is.
Video: B.J. Penn reflects on 2005 loss to UFC 175 headliner Lyoto Machida
Despite the fact he didn’t defeat Machida, the Hawaiian has had an extremely successful career that’s included two UFC championship reigns in separate weight classes. Machida hasn’t achieved quite that level of overall success, but he’ll have the chance to put his name right there with Penn in the record books when the former light heavyweight champion attempts to take middleweight gold from Weidman tonight.

Even if you’ve watched every face-off from every UFC weigh-in, the fifth installment of “UFC 175 Embedded” probably has something new for you.
The Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale staff picks and predictions
Anton Tabuena : I would've expected this match up to be on the Macau card, but nevertheless, these two Asian MMA stars will tangle in Vegas. Issa should have better BJJ, and slightly more technical striking, but Bieke will have a huge power advantage, and quite possibly a slight edge in wrestling. Normally I would pick the more well rounded fighter, but I think this will be contested on the feet for stretches and that makes it a tougher pick. The previously undefeated Chinese star didn't seem to handle adversity very well, so if Issa - who should have the more diverse offensive arsenal here - puts the pressure on and lands early and often, maybe he can make Bieke fold. On the other hand, for all of Issa's improvements in his Muay Thai, his striking defense can still be suspect at times, and Bieke does have the power to end it once he slips. Tough pick, but I'm leaning towards the latter, where Bieke eventually lands his overhand shot. Jumabieke Tuerxun by TKO.
UFC 175's Bruno Santos describes bizarre feelings in UFC debut
Santos said that’s been a theme of his career. While his past 11 fights have gone to the scorecards, he insists it’s not due to a lack of trying or production. Instead, he said, he simply opts to fight the toughest opponents he can, which included a 2011 single-night tournament in which he needed seven total rounds to beat three opponents.
