UFC champ Amanda Nunes hospitalized; Whittaker vs. Romero is new UFC 213 main event

For Justin Gaethje, his greatest weapon might be the sheer force of his will. That, as much as the punches and knees, broke Michael Johnson in Friday’s TUF 25 Finale main event. But how long can a man so heedless of consequences keep winning that way?

‘TUF 25’ Finale Bonuses: Justin Gaethje Garners $100K in Spectacular UFC Debut

It’s hard to put a price on Justin Gaethje ’s memorable Ultimate Fighter Championship debut, but the $100,000 worth of bonus checks he received afterward was certainly well deserved. The former World Series of Fighting lightweight king combined with headlining foe Michael Johnson to earn “Fight of the Night” honors and $50,000 apiece in "The Ultimate Fighter 25” finale headliner at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Friday night. “The Highlight” was rocked on a couple occasions early, but he remained relentless with his forward pressure and unyielding offense. Eventually, Gaethje put Johnson on wobbly legs and followed him to the fence with a flying knee. Then, a couple more uppercuts and knees against the cage put “The Menace” away for good 4:48 into the second round. For his efforts, the Grudge Training Center product also received a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus. Elsewhere, Tecia Torres received the evening’s other $50,000 “Performance of the Night” award for the first finish of her professional career against Juliana Lima in a preliminary strawweight contest.

UFC 213 Prelims: Alexey Oleynik Squeezes Travis Browne into Submission in Las Vegas

The submission artist that is Alexey Oleinik just took down the No. 9 heavyweight in Travis Browne with the choke! https://t.co/vnVqJYFD2M — FOX Sports: UFC (@UFCONFOX) July 9, 2017 Travis Browne found himself trapped in the squeeze of Alexey Oleynik , and his situation quickly deteriorated from dire to hopeless. Oleynik submitted the monstrous 6-foot-7 Hawaiian with a second-round rear-naked choke in the featured UFC 213 “Romero vs. Whittaker” prelim on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Browne (18-7-1), who had never before been submitted, conceded defeat 3:44 into Round 2. He has lost four fights in a row. The two heavyweights traded heavy shots throughout a grueling first round, each man staggering the other. Late in the frame, Oleynik struck for a takedown, advanced to the back and threatened with a rear-naked choke. It was a sign of things to come. Browne scored with a takedown of his own in the second round but squandered his advantage. Oleynik later dragged down “Hapa” from the rear waistlock position, climbed to the back and scissored Browne’s body with his legs before tightening his arms around the neck.

UFC 213 results: Rob Font impresses all around before submitting Douglas Silva de Andrade

Font (14-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) took the fight to the mat after about a minute into the first round. He didn’t do much with top position, though, and the fight was back to standing moments later. Font went for a standing guillotine, which was tight momentarily, but Silva de Andrade (24-2 MMA, 2-2 UFC) escaped and threw a leg kick as they separated. Both men settled in and sized each other up until Font threw a beautiful combination that ended with a knee to the face. The only problem was that he poked Silva de Andrade’s eye on the way out, forcing a temporary stoppage. Silva de Andrade landed a nice kick to the body and followed it up with a left hand moments later, his best strikes of the round. The round ended with font landing a second knee to the face and transitioning into a guillotine choke that he was forced to release when the bell rang.

BJJ: Fabio Gurgel teaches an armbar starting from the closed guard by @gallerr

Alliance leader Fabio Gurgel teaches here another great technique from his vast repertory. Aided by two-time world champion Michael Langhi, Gurgel shows a simple, effective position starting from the closed guard. After breaking his foe's posture, Gurgel crosses the foe's arm to the side, hip-escapes and sits. With the support of the hand, Gurgel makes the move to reach the back. Without enough room to place the hooks, the four-time world champion transitions to mount and sink the armbar.
