Conor McGregor Opens as Heavy Favorite Over Jose Aldo, but Should He Be?

According to Bovada, one of the leading oddsmakers for mixed martial arts, the line on the fight opened with McGregor nearly a 2-to-1 favorite at -190, while Aldo stood at +155. What that means is if you were to place a bet on McGregor, you would have to bet $190 to win $100 in return (for a total payout of $290, including your original bet). If you put money on Aldo, a $100 bet would score you a win of $155, should he claim victory (a total payout of $255, including your original bet).

Ronda Rousey: I would like to kick Cyborg's ass for my retirement fight

"Sincere opinion about Cyborg: she's just waiting to be offered enough money to get her ass kicked ('cuz she knows she'll get her ass kicked). I know for a fact she can make the weight. She consulted with Mike Dolce (my current nutritionist) before I ever started working with him and after consulting with her he said he could get her in "the best shape of her life" at 135. She then started being represented by Tito Ortiz and all talk stopped. The delay is all about money, not her weight. She made 145 pumped full of steroids. She can healthily make 135 without them. Her shows that she headlines lose thousands of dollars, and the majority of the tickets are given away because no one will buy them. She needs me. So pretty much we're waiting for her to realize that she needs to fight me before I retire or she'll never have enough money to retire. I would like me kicking her ass be my retirement fight but whether she steps up or not I'll walk away undefeated and happily ever after regardless."

Zahabi: Rory 'had the best time of his life' at UFC 189

Being a mixed martial arts journalist based in British Columbia, Canada – and one that attended UFC 189 in person – there is one question that I have been asked repeatedly since returning home from covering that historic event in Las Vegas last month: “How does Rory MacDonald come back from a fight like that?” For 20 minutes, MacDonald went toe-to-toe, blow-for-blow, round-for-round with the welterweight champion, including a few instances where it looked as if “The Red King” was going to be bringing the belt back to Canada, where it has resided twice before. But it wasn’t meant to be. A minute into the final round, Lawler scored the stoppage victory that it turned out he needed, as the challenger entered the final frame ahead 3-1 on all three scorecards. His nose a crimson faucet, his eyes bruised and swollen, MacDonald was vanquished by the veteran champion, leaving many observers wondering what kind of impact the punishing instant classic would have on the battered challenger in the long term? Having spoken with MacDonald at length in the past about his motivations for stepping into the Octagon and what it is about the sport that drives him, my answer was always the same: there are very few fighters on the UFC roster that would embrace being in a fight of that nature more than the Montreal-based welterweight, and while it looked soul-crushing to those watching from outside the eight walls, MacDonald was likely loving every minute of it.

Mutual Combat Law In Washington Lets Two People Have a Consensual Streetfight if Cops Referee

In Seattle, there are actual laws that allow two adults to enter into fair combat (One guy can’t have a knife, etc) on their own free will without breaking the law. As far as laws go, this one makes a lot of sense. Wild brawls on the streets are dangerous for the participants and anybody in the vicinity, but formalizing things adds a certain degree of class that ultimately makes the street fight a lot safer.

Tito Ortiz on Wanderlei Silva’s Fixed Fights Allegation: ‘I Agree with Him’

A bad judge decision is not fight fixing is just bad judging I have judged many many fights and sometimes what you see as a fan just watching the fight is not the same as you sitting there judging the fight. A fixed fight is one person accepts money from another entity to take a dive. I dont believe that any fighter that has made it to the ufc made the conscious decision to get knocked out or be submitted due to being paid by someone and if that did happen I honestly dont believe the UFC was behind it. Tito is bitter that he is not Dana White thats it in a nutshell and Wanderlei has also made an ass of himself as well. Its sad to see these once awesome competitors fall to the status of whiners cauze there not happy with how there own life turned out.

Coker on expanding the Ali Act to MMA: 'I think it's a pretty good idea'

"A little bit of history here is in order: The Ali Act, is a federal law that was introduced in 1999 and enacted on May 26, 2000 in response to widespread abuse of professional boxers. The Act amends the 1996 Professional Boxing Safety Act by expanding upon it to protect boxers against exploitation, conflict of interest, enforcement, as well as to provide a mechanism for additional amendments. I am not a lawyer, but I don't think the ABC has the authority to expand the Ali Act to MMA, it would require an actual amendment from Congress. At one time, a few years back, Senator John McCain introduced a bill to amend the Ali Act to include MMA, however, some strong lobbying efforts (by someone) managed to stall that process and I believe it was abandoned. But hey, if all of the planets aligned and there was a concerted effort to change things, I think I would be in favor of it - in fact, I think they should call it the Randy Couture Act."

Invicta FC 14 Gets New Headliner with Tonya Evinger vs. Pannie Kianzad

Fresh off a title win, Tonya Evinger will put her new belt on the line. | Photo: Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com Invicta Fighting Championships has been forced to alter the lineup for its September card after losing the previously announced main event. The organization on Monday announced that top strawweight contender Alexa Grasso suffered an unspecified injury “that limited her ability to train and prepare” for her bout with titleholder Livia Renata Souza . As a result of that fight being postponed, Invicta FC 14 will instead be headlined by a bantamweight title bout between newly crowned champ Tonya Evinger and unbeaten prospect Pannie Kianzad . Evinger, 34, captured the title on July 9 with a dominant performance against Irene Aldana which led to a fourth-round ground-and-pound stoppage. Currently riding the longest winning streak of her nine-year career, the Missouri native has bested her last seven opponents, finishing three via submission and two via knockout. Eleven years the junior of her opponent, Sweden’s Kianzad has run up an 8-0 record in three years as a professional.

Jedrzejczyk carved a quick path to the top, as she emerged as the sport’s top female fighter at 115 pounds. The unbeaten Pole has won all four of her bouts since arriving in the UFC a little more than a year ago, defeating Juliana de Lima Carneiro and Nova Uniao standout Claudia Gadelha before capturing strawweight gold with a second-round knockout against “The Ultimate Fighter 20” winner Carla Esparza at UFC 185 in March. Jedrzejczyk successfully defended her title at a UFC Fight Night event on June 20, when she routed Jessica Penne and delivered a third-round technical knockout at the O2 World in Berlin. Known for her striking prowess, Jedrzejczyk was a six-time world champion in amateur muay Thai. In claiming the strawweight championship, she became just the third European fighter -- Bas Rutten and Andrei Arlovski are the others -- to win a UFC title.

Raised on a farm, built in a cage. The Matt Hughes Story

Hughes :  So that week I had two big cornermen.  Jeremy Horn who was my grappling coach, and Matt Pena who was my striking coach.  I made a deal with them.  If I submitted Almeida I would buy Jeremy Horn any gun he wanted, and if I knocked Almeida out, I would buy Matt Pena any gun he wanted.  So we were talking about this deal for a couple of days.  On the 3rd day, Matt Pena says “What happens if you drop him with a punch, then end up submitting him on the ground?”.  I said fine, two guns!  It didn't matter to me.  As long as I won I’d be happy.  So guess what ends up happening?  I clip him with a punch that sends him falling, then I submit him.  When the fight was over, I look at my corner and everyone is clapping except Matt Pena, who is holding up two fingers yelling “TWO GUNS!”.  Its a memory I’ll never forget.  It was just an incredible moment.

Bubba Bush vs. Garreth McLellan Joins Card for UFC Fight Night in Dublin on Oct. 24

Bubba Bush has been out of action for more than a year. | Photo: Keith Mills/Sherdog.com A middleweight tilt between Texan Bubba Bush and South Africa’s Garreth McLellan has been added to the undercard of UFC Fight Night “Poirier vs. Duffy.” Ultimate Fighting Championship officials on Monday announced the 185-pound matchup, which joins a burgeoning Oct. 24 bill set to take place at 3Arena in Dublin. Topping the card is a featherweight bout between American ranker Dustin Poirier and Irish up-and-comer Joseph Duffy . Bush, 30, had a four-fight winning streak snapped in his Octagon debut when he was knocked out by Kevin Casey at UFC 175 , though that result was later overturned when Casey tested positive for steroids. The former Legacy Fighting Championship titlist has not competed since and will have been out of action for more than 15 months when he returns to the cage. McLellan, 33, also stumbled in his first UFC bout, dropping a unanimous decision to Bartosz Fabinski in April. Prior to that loss, “Soldier Boy” had won six in a row, including four by way of rear-naked choke, during his time as middleweight champion of EFC Africa .
