Conor McGregor is flying out fan who performed ukulele song to Floyd Mayweather fight

I’m going to bring him over to the fight and get him tickets and put him up in a hotel, and I’ll meet him after the fight. It’s one hell of a song.”

Stories from the Road: Chael Sonnen

When Chael Sonnen speaks, it seems as if his voice carries an invisible magnet. Heads turn in rapt attention. People listen. He can be annoying, and he knows it. The mixed martial artist is incredibly cerebral, and he knows that, too. He is provocative, temperamental, expressive, calculating and highly skilled at what he does. He has learned patience. Above it all, he is never afraid to speak his mind. When Sonnen talks, there is no filter. Words and thoughts flow out unrestrained. Sonnen, 40, has seen his career span over 20 years. He has beaten some of the best and lost to some of the best. Regardless of how the MMA fanbase views him, he is hard to ignore. He has retired and unretired from the sport, and he has pissed off a slew of people along the way. Most recently it was Tito Ortiz , who gained as much attention with his cageside theatrics during Sonnen’s victory over Wanderlei Silva in the Bellator 180 main event at Madison Square Garden than the fight itself, throwing unfriendly finger gestures at the Team Quest mainstay, mixed with audible nasty remarks.

Opinion: The Dueling Insecurities of Boxing and MMA

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Sherdog.com, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. * * * Few conflicts are as inevitable or as stupid as generational ones. Without exception, every generation has bemoaned the one that follows. Kids these days are addicted to their phones; the kids before them had their egos overstuffed by participation trophies; the kids before them were rotting their brains with TV and video games; with the kids before them, it was all that darned rock and roll music; the kids before them ... you get it. Yet somehow, despite all these oh-so-serious problems with the youth and the even more serious fist shaking, the cranky folks yelling at generational passersby to get off their lawn have only ever been addressing the next group to take their spot on the porch. There’s a flipside to that, of course. Older generations are not the only guilty parties when it comes to broad dumb accusations. Young people are frequently guilty of dismissing the wisdom of life experience, eagerly substituting it for Google voyages and Netflix documentaries.

Ex-Pride Star Takanori Gomi Looks to Halt Four-Bout Skid at UFC Fight Night 117 in Japan

Former Pride Fighting Championships star Takanori Gomi will attempt to get back into the win column when he locks horns with “Maestro” Dong Hyun Kim at UFC Fight Night 117 in Japan. The promotion recently announced the lightweight pairing. UFC Fight Night 117 takes place at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, on Sept. 22 and is headlined by a light heavyweight rematch between Ovince St. Preux and Mauricio Rua . Once viewed as the top lightweight in the world during a tear that saw him win 14 of 15 Pride appearances, Gomi has fallen on hard times in the UFC. “The Fireball Kid” enters the matchup on a four-fight losing streak, which includes a first-round submission defeat to Jon Tuck at UFC Fight Night 111 on June 17. Gomi is 4-8 during his tenure with the Las Vegas-based promotion. Kim suffered knockout defeats in his first two Octagon appearances but rebounded to outpoint Brendan O’Reilly in his most recent appearance at “The Ultimate Fighter 24” finale. The 28-year-old South Korean owns a 14-8-3 career record overall.

South Korean Lightweight Tae Hyun Bang Indicted in Aborted UFC Fight-Fixing Case

Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran Tae Hyun Bang didn't actually throw a bout in the Octagon. Nonetheless, even if he changed his mind, he is the focal point in a fight-fixing plot and is now facing criminal charges. South Korean prosecutors announced Monday that Bang, 34, has been indicted for his role in a match-fixing plan, surrounding his November 2015 lightweight bout at UFC Fight Night 79 in Seoul with Leo Kuntz . The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office alleges that Bang accepted 100 million won -- just over $87,800 USD -- from unnamed parties to intentionally lose his bout with Kuntz. The prosecution further contends that UFC officials discussed the matter with Bang during fight week after noticing a drastic shift in the bout's betting odds, which led to “The Korean Cowboy” having a change of heart. Bang would go on to win the bout via split decision. Bang opened as a -180 favorite for his bout with Kuntz, but by the day of the fight, had dropped to a nearly +280 underdog after a considerable amount of cash bet on the American swung the line.

5 Things You Might Not Know About Khabib Nurmagomedov

The line for those desiring an in-cage audience with Khabib Nurmagomedov has grown short. Armed with a perfect 24-0 record and the overwhelming skills to match, Nurmagomedov ranks as one of the top lightweights in mixed martial arts and serves as a threat to anyone in the Ultimate Fighting Championship ’s cutthroat waters at 155 pounds. Since arriving on the UFC scene as an undefeated prospect in January 2012, the Dagestani brute has rattled off consecutive victories over Kamal Shalorus , Gleison Tibau , Thiago Tavares , Abel Trujillo , Pat Healy , Rafael dos Anjos , Darrell Horcher and Michael Johnson . Those eight men have combined for 168 career wins between them. Now more than nine months removed from his “Beatdown of the Year” performance against Johnson at UFC 205, Nurmagomedov has taken aim at some of the lightweight division’s heaviest hitters, including champion Conor McGregor and top contender Tony Ferguson . As “The Eagle” awaits word on his next challenge, here are five things you might not know about him: 1.

17
By the Numbers: Ronda Rousey

She was for a time the brightest star in the mixed martial arts sky, the haste of her meteoric rise matched only by the suddenness of her unexpected fall. Where Ronda Rousey goes from here remains anyone’s guess. After starting her career 12-0 with 12 finishes, Rousey surrendered the Ultimate Fighting Championship women’s bantamweight crown in a stunning loss to Holly Holm and then failed in a bid to reclaim it against Amanda Nunes a little more than a year later. The nature of those two setbacks has left her in limbo. Nevertheless, a long list of accomplishments figure to stand the test of time. Rousey was the first American woman to medal in judo at the Olympics, capturing bronze at the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing. It made for a successful transition to MMA, as she graduated from the regional circuit to Strikeforce and the UFC. Rousey stopped 11 of her first 12 opponents inside the first round and appeared all but invincible in doing so. During her 14-fight career, the “Rowdy” judoka has compiled her share of intriguing statistical data: 138: Seconds Rousey needed to defeat her first four professional opponents.

Gregor Gillespie-Jason Gonzalez Lightweight Tilt Added to UFC Fight Night 116 in Pittsburgh

Gonzalez, meanwhile, will likely be Gillespie’s toughest test to date. The Colton, California fighter is 1-1 in the UFC and last fought on the UFC on Fox 23 card this pas January, where he submitted J.C. Cottrell via first-round brabo choke. “Nicoyas” was knocked out in the first round by Drew Dober in his Octagon debut last September. Set for Sep. 16 at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, UFC Fight Night 116 is slated to be headlined by a middleweight clash between former UFC 185-pound champion Luke Rockhold and former WSOF simultaneous middleweight and light heavyweight king David Branch . Welterweight Thiago Alves will clash with Mike Perry in the chief support bout, while elsewhere, middleweight Hector Lombard will take on Anthony Smith .

Islam Makhachev Out; Michel Prazeres Faces Mads Burnell at UFC Fight Night 115 Instead

Brazilian lightweight Michel Prazeres was slated to face Islam Makhachev at UFC Fight Night 115 next month, but that is no longer going to happen. With Makhachev unable to compete and removed from the bout, Prazeres will now take on debuting Dane Mads Burnell instead, according to an MMAJunkie.com report on Saturday evening. UFC officials subsequently confirmed the report. No explanation was given for Makhachev's removal. Prazeres is one of the best contenders at lightweight as he’s quickly ascending the rankings ladder. “Trator” has won his last four bouts, with his latest triumph coming via first-round north-south choke of longtime veteran Joshua Burkman at UFC Fight Night 106 in March. Prazeres has had his hand raised in six of his last seven outings, with the lone loss coming to rising prospect Kevin Lee at UFC Fight Night 60 more than two years ago. Denmark’s Burnell also been on fire inside the cage. Since suffering the only loss of his career nearly two years ago, the Danish fighter has won his last three bouts, including two via submission.

Now, one of them has returned with a challenge. Former boxing champion Paul Malignaggi departed from McGregor’s training camp after a series of sparring photos were leaked online. Georges St-Pierre Reveals He Has to Defend UFC Middleweight Title If He Beats Bisping | MMAWeekly.com

Like Conor McGregor , St-Pierre’s plans appear to be focused on big challenges and marquee fights that aren’t necessarily tied to chasing down belts and dominating divisions the way he did during his run as the promotion’s welterweight kingpin. The UFC, however, doesn’t want to allow him to hold up the middleweight title the way that McGregor has held up the featherweight and lightweight belts.
